5.4.2 of utility: "A newer version of AirPort Utility is required."

The Airport Utility for osx 5.4.2 pops up this warning when I try to configure the base station.
"A newer version of AirPort Utility is required.
This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this Apple wireless device and might improperly configure the device if you continue to use it. Use the version of AirPort Utility that came on the CD with your Apple wireless device. Check www.apple.com/support/airport for the latest version of AirPort Utility."
Maybe I'm tripping but I believe 5.4.2 is the latest version?

+So what do we do when someone has the newest Time Capsule (late 2009) but cannot find the install disc?+
You would need to call Apple customer support. Apple has not posted AirPort Utility 5.5 for download because...according to a "genius" at the Apple store....Version 5.5 is not fully compatible with earlier versions of the AirPort Extreme, Time Capsule and AirPort Express.

  • A newer version of AirPort Utility is required

    Hi everyone,
My Airport Utility keeps telling me that "A newer version of AirPort Utility is required."
My airport extreme is a (new) dual band unit (running v7.5) and the AirPort utility (v5.4.2) seems to be the latest and greatest.
    What am I doing wrong?

You need to install the new software from the disk that came with the Airport Extreme.
This is only available on the disk at this time as Apple has not released the new version for download.
The new version of Airport Utility is 5.5 which is on the disk that came with the new Airport Extreme.

  • Hi trying to set up new Time Capsule, it says I need a newer version of Airport Utility, how do I get this?

Hi trying to set up new Time Capsule, it says I need a newer version of Airport Utility, how do I get this?

You need to be running at least the Lion (10.7.5) operating system or higher on your Mac, or using an iPhone or iPad with AirPort Utility installed on the device to set up the Time Capsule.
Check the System Requirements for the Time Capsule to confirm.
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3 or higher

  • Need newer version of airport ADMIN utility

I have set up a brand new AExp (n) OK using Airport Utility 5.3.2. Now I'd like to create a profile, and find out the IP numbers of other devices on my LAN (it'll surely do that won't it?). But the version of Airport ADmin utility that was installed with the software from the CD is Version 4.2. When I start it I get the message that it can't update software properly and to go to the support site and get a new version, and then it hangs. Thanks Apple for the consistent package. But I must be stupid because I can't find anywhere on the support site to get a newer version. Any ideas where and what?

    Try this : go to

at the bottom is the link DOWNLOAD sd18855 8.8mb that worked for me (Tiger user)

  • Some of my pages documents require a newer version to open. How do I get the newer version without buying it again?, Some of my pages documents require a newer version to open. How do I get the newer version without buying it again?

I tried to open a document in Pages but an error message said the newer version of MAC Pages was required.  Do I have to buy the new version? How do I download without having to spend $20. again?

Sounds like you have stored files in iCloud or shared them with your iPad which has updated the files to the later Pages 5 versions.
Pages 5 only runs in OSX 10.9 Mavericks, and is a much cut down version.
If you have owned any iWork apps then you can get it for free with the Apple Up-To-Date Program:
    http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewtopic.php?t=429&mforum=iworktips ntrick
To make Pages 5 files openable in Pages '09 you need to export them but they will have been altered, in some cases damaged. Better to revert to older copies.

  • New version airport express and music drop-outs

Does the new version of Airport Express (802.11n) solve the problem of AirTunes audio stream drop-outs? My existing Express suffered so badly, I stopped using it!

Can report back that the new Express is fantastic. No more dropouts. Gand set it to work on N only and it is great having the same music in the kitchen as in the living room. have now sold my 2 old units. Next purchase Timecapsule.

  • Would Apple be coming out with a newer version of iWork in future anytime  soon?

I use iWork at work and head over heels in love. I won't ever we going back to Mircosoft Office. I had a Mac before and it died. I am hoping I can get a new as a birthday present to myself but before I purchase I saw iWork was 2009. Would there happen to be newer version coming out in the near furture. I don't want to purchase iWork 09 and then the next day the newer version is out.

Apple never provides the kind of advance info you want, so it is pretty impossible to avoid the problem you mention.
But in this particular case many think that a new version of iWork will be required to provide the features listed for OS X 10.8, to be released in July, so you may want to wait and see if that happens.

  • New version of iBooks not compatible with iOs 4.2.1

I wanted to install iBooks on my iPhone 3. The new version, released sep 19th 2012 requires iOs 4.3 which is not compatible with the iPhone 3g. Have I any solution to install a previous version of iBooks?

Nice! This is what we call forced marketing ... I am forced to buy a new iPhone to use an old basic application ... Any idea on which free app I can use to read PDF docs and which is iOs 4.2.1 compatible? Thanks for your help.

  • Older version vs. Newer version

I'm looking to connect my external hard drive (with all my iTunes music) to my macbook pro wirelessly with an Airport Extreem. However, I've been finding all kinds of reviews about the new version of Airport Extreem w/ Time Capsule going belly-up in a few months. But the older versions seem to be holding out. Is there any truth to this and which version has your vote?

If you store your music on an external drive connected to your AirPort base station, a failure of the base station wouldn't risk your music.
Don't confuse the AirPort Extreme base station and the Time Capsule. It's Time Capsule models (with an internal power supply) that seem to be failing. I believe the power supply for the AirPort Extreme is still external.

  • Setting up network with newer and older AirPort Extremes

Okay, I thought this was going to be so simple. I have a newer (like a year old - square) Airport Extreme that I have three computers wirelessly hooked up to in the house. Great... so now, I want to hook up the old iMac in my son's room that doesn't have a wireless card to the network. It is too far away to use the ethernet cable into the back of my newer Airport Extreme station so I figured I'd dust off the old saucer type base station, plug the ethernet cable into that in my son's room and then just easily get the old base station to network with the newer one wirelessly.
Not so easy. The newer one has no reference how to make a network with other base stations whatsoever and the old book describes how to with the Airport Admin Utility which is not available to the newer version, just Airport Utility and it does not have the WDA options listed. I tried to extend the network and then Doh! The whole network disappeared.
Is this a compatibility issue with the older and newer base stations? Would it just be easier to put in a wireless card to my very old iMac, if that's even possible? Has anyone successfully networked an old and new base station together? If so how?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions!
When you have an older "g" device (the flying saucer) and a newer "n" device (the square one) in order for them to communicate using wireless only, you must configure both of them in what is known as WDS configuration.
This is a quite tricky setup for most users. The best set of instructions that I've seen for this comes from expert user Tesserax in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2355832&tstart=0
If you elect to try this type of setup, you will probably need to hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Wireless Mode selection box to get the WDS option to appear. (My guess here is that Apple "hides" it because it slows down the network substantially). But, it's the only way to do what you want to accomplish with and old and new device.
Other options would include the wireless card you mentioned for the iMac. Even better might be a pair of ethernet powerline adapters. One adapter goes near the AirPort Extreme and the other near the iMac. The AC wiring in your home transmits the ethernet signal of the powerline. Works great, almost no configuration required and better than wireless in many cases.

  • HT4260 I am working with a later version of Airport Extreme's using Mountain Lion. Are these instructions suitable?

I am trying to setup an extended wireless network using 2 Airport Extremes (4th and 5th generation). I have ethernet around the house. I have my wireless network setup but cannot add the second AE. My broadbanc connection is via cable modem.
Any help would really be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Barbara

    Hello Barbara,
Things are very different now with the new version of AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion. Apple says that no instructions are really needed, since the setup is now much simpler than in the past.
Still, most users need a few hints to get going, and it's always good to check your connections first, to verify that the Ethernet "backbone" is working correctly before trying to add a second AirPort.
I understand that you already have one AirPort Exteme set up and working, which we will call AE 1.
Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on AE1 to your Ethernet connection for the house....probably a wall jack.
Temporarily, move your MacBook Pro to the location where you want to install AE2. Turn off the wireless on the MacBook Pro  (by clicking the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the screen). Connect an Ethernet cable from the Ethernet wall port to the MacBook Pro, and check to see if you can get a good Internet connection with the MacBook Pro connected this way as a test.
If you can, then you know that the Ethernet wiring is functioning correctly. You can disconnect the Ethernet cable from the MacBook Pro now, and turn the wireless back on.
If you cannot get an Internet connection with the "test", then you'll need to do some additional troubleshooting before you can connect AE 2.
Post back on your results, and we will continue with the setup of AE 2.
I assume that AE 2 is new, and that you have not made any changes to this device, or tried to configure it yet.

  • I have a macbook air with osx 10.6.8 and it has a 1.4 GHz intel core duo processor and 2GB 1067 Mhz DDR3. I want to use icloud but am afraid buying the version of osx that is required will bog my computer speed down, or change the user inerface. I

I am not computer savy and like my macbook air because as a college student, and father that is very busy, I don't have to learn to re-use it every month after it crashes from a virus. Am I able to load the new version of osx that icloud requires onto this computer without changing it substantially or slowing it down?

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

  • HT5022 I'm trying to add a "new client" to my wireless network using Airport Utility, but I can't find that option in the new version.  I've downloaded all available updates of the OS and the utility..  Help!

I'm trying to add my HP wireless printer as a "new client" to my wireless network using Airport Utility, but I can't find that option in the new version.  I've downloaded all available updates of the OS and the utility..  Help!

Why would you need to ADD a new Client. Unless the APE sytem is completely different then any other Wireless router the printer should get an IP address from the router. That is IF the printer is setup to get an IP from the LAN DHCP server.
Now you may want to make that IP it does get a Staticly assign IP address so it never changes, which will screw up printing if it does change. But i don't know if you can do that with APE routers.

  • How do I get my macmini running Mountain Lion to see my Canon USB printer connected to my Airport Extreme? I have a macbook pro running leopard and that works fine. The versions of airport utility are different and I can't even see the printer from new 1

I am having trouble seeing my usb printer from my second gen airport extreme using the newest version of airport utility under Mountain Lion. UGH! And while I can see and network to my Canon IP5000 from my macbook pro running leopard, I can't from my new macmini running Mountain Lion. Any help would be appreciated in configuring my macmini so it can see the Canon IP5000 on the airport extreme. Don't want to "share" the printer from the laptop because that would be a cludge. Thanks ahead

I solved this one based on another post. Turned out I needed the snow leopard IP5000 driver. I had just copied over the leopard driver (I had saved my .dmg file) and installed that but it didn't work. So I downloaded the latest driver which turned out to be for snow leopard and I am guessing since it is 64bit that is why it worked and the leopard driver didn't. Anyway, I also had to hook the printer up via usb to the mac mini to get it to work locally before the O/S would see it over Bonjour via the airport extreme.
