5.6 won't import files

Recently "improved" to 5.6, now I can't import files.  I'm a computer novice so this is frustrating.  The previous version worked wonderfully.  When I try to import the thumbnails don't appear and the following is displayed instead - "Preview unavailable for this file."  I try to execute the import command anyways and a pop-up box appears indicating that "some import operations were not performed" and in fact NONE of the files imported.  I've segregated the .jpg and .nef files and tried to import them separately and still NO GO!  Hoping for some help, thanks in advance!!

This camera's RAW photos are not supported by Adobe software at this time. Please read this thread: Support for Nikon D750

Could you elaborate on what happens when you try to import, what error messages appear, etc.

  • LR 5.5 Doesn't work.  Won't import files from Sony or Canon

Since initially downloading LR 5, I have been unable to import files from my Canon 7D, Canon 5D Mk3, or my Sony Nex 7.   All three cameras are running the latest firmware versions.
    I'm using an Apple 27" IMac, with 3.4GHz Intel I7, with 16Gb 1333Mhz DDR3 ram.
The ONLY way I've gotten LR 5.X to import any images has been to move them from the memory card, to a folder on the desktop, and then import them from that folder.
Anything else I try results in a dialogue box that tells me the images can't be imported.
LR4 works just fine, and I have no issues importing files from any of my three cameras with it.

When I try to import anything, a dialogue box pops up, titled "Import Results"
Below that, it says "Some import operations were not performed",
Then, below that, it says "The following files were not imported because they could not be read."  And it then lists individually all the images I tried to import.
I then have the option to "Save As", or "Ok".
When I click "Ok", it ejects the card, and "No photos in Current Import" appears in the middle of the screen.

    Data Size: 73.4 MB

    Tried trashing FCP preferences
Any help would be greatly appreciated: Hopefully I won't have to convert file each and every time

This time I Tried importing contents of CF Card while in device and also tried copying contents to hard drive and same error message.."General Error"
Before I just tried importing the .mov file and received  the other error message "File Error: 1 File(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown."

  • Itunes won't import files from my computer c drive

    I click on
    'File'
    then
    'Add file to library'
then files on my C drive show up and I select one or several, then click on
    'Open'
and nothing happens, no error, no file imported, no message, just nothing.

Well, there are two reasons I can think of why it's not adding them and you get the red slash-circle.
    1) Operating system permissions are not letting you do this. However your profile says XP, and this is more common with Vista and WIndows 7 - permissions suddenly changing with no notice to you. Even ifyou'rethe only user, and using an admin account.
    2) The files are mp3 and somehow the headers have gotten damaged/corrupted. Other players (like windows media player) will play them but itunes is too fussy. You can use MP3 Validator to fix the headers. Try it only on ONE file to start.
More info is on this webpage
    http://trevinchow.com/blog/2008/09/17/fix-for-mp3-songs-not-playing-in-itunes/
Yes, I know the article says "fix for songs not playing", but it is the same fix if they will not add to itunes.

  • ITunes won't import files in Win7/64-bit

I have just installed Windows7 64-bit Professional on my computer. Totally clean install (no upgrade...deleted partitions, reformatted etc...totally clean install). Previously, this computer had Win XP 32-bit, running iTunes successfully for years.
All of the media files I am attempting to import were ripped in iTunes, so I *KNOW* they're iTunes friendly.
I can't get any of my media files (MP3's, MP4's...) to import. Dragging & dropping does nothing. File>Add File To Library does nothing. File>Add Folder to Library appears to *start* an import process, but it fails shortly after with no explanation.
I also tried creating a new iTunes library, but the behavior is the same.
When I add content from iTunes Store, it is added to the database no problem.
I have tried running iTunes in Compatibility mode (tried XP/Vista both...) with no luck. I have told it to run with Admin privileges...with no luck. I have 'repaired' iTunes...with no luck. I have uninstalled / reinstalled iTunes...with no luck.
I am running out of ideas. Any suggestions out there? I can't believe that the media files have all gotten corrupt in the 24 hours since I had XP on this machine. HELP!!

    Howdy cayenneman,
It looks like you have set a custom location to store your iTunes library but when you import your media, the files don't go to that location and seem to stay where they were imported from, such as from your desktop. In the first screenshot you provided I notice that you do not have 'Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library' checked. That tells me that the symptoms you are seeing are 100% correct. Checking that box will make iTunes do what you want, in that it will actually copy the media from wherever you are importing it from, to the directory you have set to store your iTunes library.
iTunes 11 for Windows: Change where your iTunes files are stored
Copy items to your iTunes folder when you add them to your iTunes library
When you import an item by dragging it to the iTunes window or choosing File > Add to Library, a reference (or “pointer”) to the item—not the item itself—is placed in the iTunes folder. You might not be able to play songs if you move them.
You can change this setting so that iTunes copies of all the items are placed in the iTunes folder.
Choose Edit > Preferences and click Advanced.
    Select the “Copy files” checkbox.
The next time you add an item to your library, iTunes places a copy of the file in your iTunes folder; the original file remains in its current location.
The title of the article mentions Windows but the information is the same for Mac.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Isplash and Colorize files save as JPEG but Iphoto won't import them in.

I bought both Isplash and Colorize apps to use the edited photos in an imovie video.  The programs both import my iphoto files seamlessly for coloring but when I try and save them in Iphoto or import them into iphoto I get this error.
the file could not be imported (the file is in the iphoto library)
    Help?!

the file could not be imported (the file is in the iphoto library)
iPhoto won't import files that are already in the working Library package. How did they get there?
I'm guessing that you did not use either of these apps as an external editor?
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

Try totally shutting all of your apps, double click the home button then hold your finger on an app until you see the red minus sign then tap that on all your app, then restart your iPhone, then give it a try.  If you are still having problems you will need to check with your service provider to make sure your account is provisioned correctly.

  • Media Encoder won't import MXF files from Canon XF100

I'm running Media Encoder CC on two laptops: a macbook pro and a macbook air. Both systems are running the most recent version of Media Encoder CC (including updates) but only one will import MXF files from a Canon XF100? The macbook air imports and encodes the files without issue, however the macbook pro won't import the same MXF files and kicks the following error:
The file /Users/.../.../.../AA0106.MXF could not be imported. Could not read from source. Please check the settings and try again.
I could understand if both computers errored but using the same file, one will import and the other will not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just try this and see if it will work for you.
Open iPhoto > Preferences > General and deselect 'Connecting camera opens: iPhoto'.
Change it to 'No Application' and close iPhoto.
Now connect your camera to your computer and turn it on or better still use a card reader.
If iMovie tries to open, close it.
Your camera/card should now appear as an external drive.
Copy/paste your video files into a new folder on your desktop.
    Eject and disconnect your camera/card.
Now open iMovie and go File > Import > Movies... and navigate to that folder.

  • Organizer in Photoshop Elements 9 won't import large NEF files

Photoshop Elements 9 won't import the NEF fiels from my new Nikon D800.

Yes, the camera is too new for PSE9. You will have to either:
    Upgrade to PSE11
Download the free Adobe DNG Converter Version 7.3 and use that to convert your NEFs to DNGs, and then PSE9 will be able to import them
Use the Nikon software to convert the file to TIF, then import into PSE.

  • Aperture won't import DNG files: Panasonic Lumix FZ28

Well, i went to a seminar on aperture and got all excited to use it, downloaded the trial and discovered that it won't import my camera's RAW files (even though it came out 2 years ago and is supported in PhotoShop)
I've tried various way of creating DNG files with DNG Converter (the one that works with PS CS3) but Aperture doesn't recognize those, either. (linear, non linear etc) (Will the CS4 converter do the job?)
Is there anything else I should be trying? Have any of you had success with the same camera and what do you do?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
    Elizabeth

Yep, that's what I discovered and it's the whole problem with the RAW files, but what about DNG?
I thought converting to DNG might allow them to be accessed: so you're telling me that I'm out of luck and have to stick with PhotoShop?
That dng is not a universal format recognized by Aperture?
    I appreciate your input

  • Itunes won't add files or folders, also will not import

I have some songs on itunes, but now itunes won't add files or folders, also will not import at all.
I did an uninstall and reinstall but still does not work.
    Can anyone help?
    Lucille
      Windows 2000

Ok. So its finally working again. Not sure why, but maybe my experience will help someone else.
All I can say is that I have been trying a relentless combination of mounting and mounting the drive, checking and unchecking the 'copy files to iTunes Library', running 'consolidate library', and everything in between. One of them finally kicked it back into action.
Nice Apple. 9.2.1 isn't buggy at all...that's sarcasm.

  • IMovie Won't Import MP4 Files

For some reason iMovie '11 won't let me import videos.  Specifically, I'm trying to add MP4 files that I copied to my hard drive from my GoPro HD 960.  For GoPro users, I used the R2 (720p) format.  They open properly in QuickTime and VLC but can't be imported into iMovie (or iPhoto).  When I select File-->Import-->Movies and browse to the directory where I saved all the .mp4 files on my hard drive, they're all greyed out.  And actually, it seems that just about no video files at all on my computer can be added (all greyed out)--even other MP4 files.
I downloaded MPEG Streamclip but that says "unrecognized file format" when I try opening the videos.  I also installed Perian and rebooted.
    In case it helps:
    - I have an Intel MacBook running OS X 10.6.8 with iLife '11
    - QuickTime info for the video format says "H.264, 1280 x 720, Millions; AAC, 2 channels, 48000 Hz"
    - VLC says "Stream 0 (Video) - Codec: avc1" and "Stream 1 (Audio) - Codec: mp4a"
Any ideas?  This is incredibly frustrating!

Why iMovie Won't Import MP4 Files?
Technically, iMovie does import MP4 video. However, iMovie only import MP4 files that are encoded with MPEG4/AAC or H.264/AAC data. And yet, MP4 is a video container format that may contain various audio and video codec (and sometimes even subtitle streams included). If the MP4 file is not encoded with iMovie support codec, iMovie will refuse to import this kind of MP4 video.
How to Solve Can't Import MP4 into iMovie?
In order to successfully import all kinds of MP4 files to iMovie, a recommended solution is to convert iMovie unrecognized MP4 to iMovie supported video format.
iDealshare VideoGo is just the right MP4 to iMovie Converter which can convert various MP4 to iMovie supported MPEG-4, MPEG-2, MOV or DV. Besides converting MP4 to iMovie, iDealshare VideoGo also helps to convert other video formats including AVI, WMV, MPEG, VOB, MOV, AVCHD, MTS, M2T, M2TS, TOD, MOD, XAVC, FLV, MKV, SWF, 3GP, MVI, ASF and etc to iMovie video format.

  • LR won't import raw files shot in monochrome

I just shot a wedding. Half the images were shot in color, the other half were shot in monochrome(black and white). upon importing into lightroom only the color images would import. With the black and white files I got the error message saying that the files could not be read. I was shooting with a canon rebel t2i (550D), importing into lightroom 3.2 on a mac OS X.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Can you post a link to one of the RAW files that won’t import, so others can try?  If you don’t have your own website, upload it to www.yousendit.com sending the file to your own e-mail, then post the download link it provides.
Otherwise, have you tried LR 3.5, in case a bug that affects the situation has been fixed?

  • Canon IXUS 950 won't import large AVI files into iPhoto

The new canon Ixus 950 IS wont import large (over 50mb) AVI files in iPhoto, why not?
They sit on the SD card and then sometimes subsequent pics and video's don't upload.
If there are say, 3 x 40mb files they dont upload either... After waiting ages the box pops up, unable to import.
I can individually import the AVI files under 50mb
I also note that the hard drive icon for the camera does not appear on the desktop or the finder so I could not 'drag' them in either...
    Any ideas?
    David

I have a similar problem with importing large AVIs from my Canon A610. iPhoto would import everything else (usually) except the large AVIs, which it claims is unreadable. In this particular case (~470MB file), it plays in QuickTime, I've resaved it using QT (still won't import) and converted it from MJPEG to Cinepak (still won't import). I'm now considering cutting the AVI up into smaller chunks and importing those... but any other options before that?
Misc computer details: Main HD is 120GB with 30 for Boot Camp, 80 remains for Mac OS X, but the iPhoto Library is on an external HD (also 120GB, same model as internal HD except not SATA) formatted to FAT32. Would 10.4.11 make a difference here?
