5 button mouse, as they do it in windows

I have just started using OS X on my brand new MacBook Pro. Being a long time windows user brings with itself some painful changes. But first I need to applaud the genius touch pad; it’s a joy to work with. However, there are situations where you need to use an external mouse. I have been a fan of the Logitech MX series of mice, and owns at least 7 of them. But the button configuration is not as I prefer:
Mouse button 3: In windows did I use it to close and open tabs in browsers, and autoscroll when the pointer was not located over anything clickable. In OS X does it bring up the dashboard.
Mouse button 4 & 5: In windows did I use these buttons to go forward and backward (like the 3 finger sideways swipe). In OS X does Mouse button 4 open expose (clever, but Mouse button 6 is the app switching button)
I have tried USB overdrive, Logitech Control Center (only compatible with the MX510 not MX518) and Steermouse. None of with solves the problem with Mouse Button 3, 4 and 5. Any suggestion for another mouse modification app? Are there setting I have missed in the apps I have tried?

it would take some work, but you could just put an
icon of the close button on the tab, then use
mouselisteners to determine if a mouseevent happened
within the bounds of the icon...The mouseevents give x,y co-ordinates but they do not cover the tab-portion, only panel below the tab.

  • Keyboard freeze in Finder - can someone with a 2-button mouse reproduce?

    I've been having a problem where the Finder suddenly stops responding to key presses. I'm using a Microsoft IntelliMouse, and I'm trying to find out if it's the mouse or the Finder's fault. If you use a 2-button mouse, would you mind trying the following? (I don't think a Mighty Mouse will work for this):
    1. Open a window in the Finder.
    2. Put it into column view.
    3. In the white background of the window, click both mouse buttons at once. You'll probably need to do this several times, so you can be sure they were pressed at exactly the same time.
    4. Try to use some Finder keyboard shortcuts (e.g. arrow keys to select a folder, or command-N to open a new window. Nothing should work.
    5. You can fix things by force-quitting and re-launching the Finder, or just restarting.
    I can consistently reproduce this on a MacBook Pro with OS 10.5. I used to have the same problem on a PowerBook G4 with OS 10.4, although I can't be sure it was caused by these exact steps. My mouse is http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-D58-00026-Intellimouse-Optical-Mouse/dp/B00005TQ 08 with no special drivers installed, just the built-in ones.
    Can anyone else reproduce this, and tell me what kind of mouse, mouse driver, OS, and Mac you're using? Thanks,
    Jacob

    I was able to reproduce the problem using a Logitech MX510 optical mouse, built-in Mac driver (no 3rd party mouse software installed). I'm running Leopard on a MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Core Duo.
    Also, I didn't have to press both buttons at the same time; holding down the left-click and then right-clicking led to the same problem. Left-clicking while holding down right-click doesn't cause any problems.

  • 2 button mouse for MAC

    I'm authoring a project on a PC but also need a MAC version.
    There are some functions that require a right mouse click. They
    work fine on the PC but can't get them to work on the MAC. I have
    emulateMultiButtonMouse = TRUE. I have a two button mouse on my
    MAC. Right clicking does not work and Control clicking does not
    work. Any ideas?

    Have you set;
    the emulateMultiButtonMouse = TRUE
    or;
    emulateMultiButtonMouse = TRUE
    If it isn't preceded by 'the' then it's just another
    variable. In MX2004 you could also use;
    _player.emulateMultiButtonMouse = TRUE

  • Installed Windows 7 on bootcamp but now my wireless mouse won't work when in windows. What can I do?

    Installed Windows 7 on bootcamp but now my wireless mouse won't work when in windows. What can I do?

    assuming it is an optical mouse (no ball etc.) then there aren't any moving parts involve in the motion detection
    so there's a faulty component or connection
    from what you describe it could be just a loose/broken connection, so if you know someone familiar with electronics see if they can open it up and have a look

  • Setup multi button mouse

    I have a nobutech bd-ms 140 external mouse that has 5 buttons. Anyway to set the buttons up through Snow Lep setup.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
    Does your Mac recognize it? (Menubar, System Preferences, Hardware, Mouse)
    If it recognizes it as a generic USB two-button or three-button mouse, that's probably all you're going to get.
    Unlikely that it has an OS X driver, since it is listed on the manufacturer's website, www.nobutech.com as a Windows USB plug-n-play mouse. No mention of OS X on the spec sheet here: http://www.nobutech.com/products/BD-MS140/specs.pdf

  • Wired Multi-Button Mouse for OSX.5 & PowerMac - Seeking Recommendations

    I poked around at the Apple Store on-line and I saw many wireless mice and a few wired mice. I focused my attention on the wired mice because I am not interested in the wireless variety for my desktop and in several of the reviews it mentions incompatibility with OSX.5.
    So, any OSX.5 users out there have any feedback on the good, the bad and the untrustworthy multi-button mice?
    I like most of the Mighty Mouse features, except for the lack of a right click button (yes I can set the little scroll wheel button for that (and I have) but it just doesn't feel right to me).
    Thanks.

    Martin,
    The Mighty Mouse does have right-click functionality, without using the scroll wheel. I'm not really sure why you think it doesn't. Nevertheless...
    I really, really like all of the Kensington products. I have a Kensington Bluetooth Pilot Mouse Mini for use with my Macbook Pro, but I also have a USB "Studio" mouse that is still used with an older G4 tower, and it has delivered fantastic performance. This is a three-button mouse with a touch-sensitive strip in place of a scroll wheel, but I don't think they make this one anymore (unfortunately).
    Perhaps the best thing about Kensington devices is the accompanying "Mouseworks" software. The software consists of drivers for most of their products (not necessary in most cases) and a new "preference pane" where the device's buttons and features can be configured and customized, even on an application-by-application basis. Very powerful tools.

  • Three button mouse problems

    I have a Kensington model#72123 right and left button with a third middle scroll button. I have Kensington MouseWorks software loaded. The problem is that I cannot get the center scroll button to work properly with Color. When I set a vignette and try to use to middle click inside the vignette shape to drag to soften the edges nothing happens. I don't want to have to go out and spend money on a new Apple three button mouse if this procedure can be done with the Kensington. Any body know whats going on here? Am I misinformed that the soften edges procedure can be done by dragging inside a vignette using the third button? Thanks.

    Any body know whats going on here?
    Yep. This application suffers from the operator's input through a mouse but control surfaces are still horrendously expensive.
    That being said, I read in the manual quite awhile ago that you can manipulate any data with either direct entry or by middle-click and hold while dragging in the data entry box which is what I do all the time when creating the vignette soft edge. I have a Mighty Mouse as well as a Wacom mouse/pen that I use and while they do work by dragging the vignette edge, many times they don't. I find middle click/drag in the direct entry box to far more reliable.
    If you want to drag the vignette edge, perhaps you'd have better luck contacting Kensington tech support?

  • Regular Two Button Mouse, Corded

    I need help with choosing a mouse that is two button, non Apple, with Scroll Wheel. If the mouse does not need drivers or does not crash OS X or make it slow with drivers installed. If a particular update breaks the mouse or it does not work with Tiger, please post it here.
    Thank You

    In the end you'll need to figure out what mouse will work best for you, but I can make a personal suggestion. As long as you're right handed, I'd recommend a Logitech Multi-Button mouse. I have the MX 510 and I personally love it. It's fairly well supported right out of the box, although for optimum use you'd need to install the drivers. I personally disliked the Logitech drivers (and uninstalled them), but I am a big fan of USB Overdrive which is a third party mouse driver that works flawlessly. As far as the MX 510 goes, it's not very compact (read: meant for desktop use), but it's great for gaming and any type of precision work. I've had mine for over a year with no problem and they have a good warranty if anything did go wrong. Best of all though, it's pretty cheap right now.

    Hope this helps some. You might want to look at some full length reviews of whatever mouse you decide to go with before you buy it.

  • What wired 2-button mouse do you recommend to replace Mighty Mouse?

    I’m looking for a wired 2-button mouse to replace the wired Mighty Mouse I got with my new 20” iMac purchased a year ago. I will appreciate any recommendations for a comfortable trouble-free mouse. Before I switched from a Windows machine to the iMac I used a Logitech MouseMan Wheel that was not only reliable but very comfortable to use. I’d like to find something comparable for use with the iMac.
    Bob

    Wow, that was fast. I can't find the button to click on for "helpful" for your post. Where did the button go? It did work on some earlier posts from you, but not all. Anyway, it begins to feel like we're almost out of the woods!
    So a broadband router it is. I have zero motivation to try routing between IP subnets, happily.
    Nice to have affirmation of the RV0041. It seemed to be the highest level before jumping all the way to Cisco. Yeah, the Telenet firewall configuration requirement on the Zywall 5 was something to choke on. Oh—I did find one review on it. The writer, an IT tech, emphasized in all capitals that a user has to have extensive knowledge of configuring these things BEFORE getting a Zywall. So the Zywall seems to also fit squarely into the IT pro department. On the RV0041, I thought the Gigabit switch feature was very fine.
    Actually I have the software firewall "NetBarrier" installed already. Kind of sounds as if a lot of the functions of a network appliance are largely duplicated by NetBarrier. It's given me alerts in real time for attempted port scanning, for example. I do want fast page loading, so the performance lag using a network security device seems like a marked disadvantage.
    Would a combination of NetBarrier and the RV0041 largely provide equivalent protection compared to a network security device? I'm willing to live with less protection to an extent to avoid slowing things down.
    Once again, many thanks indeed

  • HT1175 I am trying to setup my Time capsule via a ethernet cable as a back up for a new iMac. The on button on the time capsule set up window keeps failing to stay on. Any ideas what to do?

    I am trying to setup my Time capsule via a ethernet cable as a back up for a new iMac. The on button on the time capsule set up window keeps failing to stay on. Any ideas what to do?

    A PC can have more issues connecting than a Mac.
    But it really should not matter.. so just try it in situ.. press and hold the reset.. once it starts up, it will return to default IP, 10.0.1.1 the PC should then be able to find it via the airport utility.
    If not drag it over to the Mac and plug in there by ethernet.. or since it is a laptop, really should not be that difficult to drag the Laptop and plug it into the TC.
    Important thing is to get access to the TC.
    The Mac if it is running lion, then you MUST download and install 5.6 airport utility to do anything useful.

  • On my own website vdha.us, I am now getting many words that are purple and when you mouse over them, a new spamming window opens trying to sell something. IE-9 does not do this. How do I turn this off in firefox?

    Sirs,
    The below URL came up immediately when I tried to access our Newfangled website this morning http://vdha.us :
    http://surveyprizecenter.com/survey/claimgift-GT-kw-7b.php?t202kw=Vdha.us&trimmedKeyword=Vdha.us
    I prefer to use Firefox and very seldom use IE-9. but now I might be forced to remove Firefox 4.0.1 and resort to using IE-9 because of this situation.
    I don’t know how spammers can use our website to exploit their spamming, but I can only imagine the complaints I am going to get from our Board of Directors and members about this.
    Can you make them stop, or at least explain how it is that anyone can do this without our permission.
    We have never allowed advertisement on our website and don’t plan on starting now.
    I am now also getting many words that are purple with two lines under them, and when you mouse over them, a new spamming window opens automatically trying to sell something. How do I turn this off?
    I would appreciate any expediency in the return of an answer that you can provide.

    The "MySearchDial" app needs to be removed in 4 places.
    1) Go to "add / remove programs" in your windows control panel select mysearchdial and remove it.
    2) Open your Firefox browser then click the Firefox tab at the top left and select options. You will need to change the start page settings back to your preferred start page.
    3) Again under the Firefox tab select "add-ons". In the add-ons manager you will need to remove mysearchdial from both "plugins" and "extensions"
    4) In your search bar (top right of address bar" use the drop down menu and select "manage search engines". You can restore your preferred search engine and remove mysearchdial from the menu.
    This should remove all the components of the nuisance hijacker and restore your browser back to your preferred settings. If you are comfortable with a more in depth removal I would also suggest going to your "programs" folder within the "C" drive of your machine and deleting the "MySearchDial" folder altogether. However, only do this AFTER you have uninstalled it from your system and if you are familiar with this type of removal.
