5 days waiting for technician who doesn't show on time

I have had no dial tone for 5 days.  On day one I set up for a technician to come out which I couldn't get an appointment for 5 days later.  I set the time frame up for 8am to 12pm on a Saturday.  I wasn't too happy about having to get up early on a Satruday but if it meant my phone would get fixed I figured it was worth it.  So today, Saturday, the day the techinician was suppose to arrive between 8am and 12pm, didn't show.  When I checked with Verizon they said it would be between 1pm and 2pm.  2pm came and went, no technician.  Then was told by 3pm, that came and went; no techinican.  Now they 4pm.  Seriously, it is Saturday.  Do you think I have nother better to do all day then to sit around and wait when I could be running errands?  Why don't you just say we will get there whenever we feel like and you will just have to sit there and wait on us.

File a complaint with the FCC.  That's what I am about to do.

    Thanks Barney, I tried that but all that comes up in Spotlight are the log files that show the file paths! I don't know how Steam works. Are all the files held by Steam on their server perhaps?

  • Wait for method that doesn't return

    Hi,
    I have a static method consisting of a few lines of code that create a response to the caller of the method.
    My problem is that the method doesn't always use the same amount of time to execute. I don't ever want to keep the caller of the method waiting for more than a specified amount of time e.g. 30 seconds. If it hasn't returned after that I want to abort and return controll to the caller.
    What's the best way to solve that problem?
    I've been thinking about starting a Thread in the method and execute the code there. That way, if the Thread hasn't finished executing after 30 sec I can kill it and return controll to the caller. But I'm not sure how that will work since the method is static. I have little experiense working with threads and no experiense working with threads in a static method.
    There are no static class variables involved. Two arguments are passed to the method, one URL and one String and it returns a String.
    Any id�as or suggestions?

  • How to shell script for noob? or Cryptography for someone who doesn't need.

    Hi, I've seen the need of automating some tasks in the Terminal and I believe using shell scripts is my solution, although I don't really even understand how they work.
    Instead of posting a full how-to here, I'd like to ask if anyone knows about good comprehensive guide for someone who never used any programming language, yet knows how to work a bit with the Terminal?
    I will figure out the command I will need to input in the Terminal myself, by testing. Once it's figured all I need is to make a shell script out of it, and perhaps make an application out of it. (Automator? ... or more Script Editor? Or?)

    ... I believed to have found a great solution for some heavy cryptography, to protect some folder and for learning pleasure. What I wanted to do is to automate the openssl task mostly like this:
    Open my flash drive (or a certain folder) containting a disk image (uncompressed, or compressed if necessary, doesn't matter) but uncrypted. Clicking on something I will name 'Lock' for the moment will run the shell script, encrypting the said image with pre-set parameters and a password I will input when prompted by the app.
    Re-running the app will prompt me a password and simply un-encrypt the image, making it useable for me.
    That's all. Perhaps if I can do it, I'll make it prompt me what cipher and all other parameter to use, but I don't understand openssl very well yet. *I just read and understood more or less informations on that page.*
    Who knows, I'll end up with a sweet GUI for encrypting files usable by the common mortals.

  • Waiting for Review taking an excessive amount of time.

    Hey guys,
    Just a quick question: I recently went through the whole iOS submission and review process, got my initial review, made a fix, got a response within 24 hours, made that fix and resubmitted. It now has been 9 days since that submission, and the app is still waiting for review. Has anyone else experienced this at all? Is there any way to expediate the review process? Or is it possible that though the app is marked as waiting for review, but there is something missing that it actually needs in order to be waiting for review?

  • Brand new iphone 5 says waiting for changes to be applied forever, every time I sync my phone.

    I previously had an iphone 4, and after backing up everything, i bought an iphone 5 and transfered everything to the new phone when i was at the apple store. i brought my laptop to get help syncing the music, but it gets stuck in a perpetual loading screen and gets stuck on waiting for changes to be applied. i cannot cancel the sync unless i eject my phone. and when i do, all of the music is greyed out, when i plug my phone in again, it starts syncing and stops when it says waiting for changes to be applied, or sometimes copying files. ive restarted my computer, my phone, un-plugged and plugged back in, everything is up to date, i un-installed and then re-installed itunes and nothing seems to work. i could sync everything fine before when i had the ophone 4. i have an HP laptop with windows 8 and i core 7, and theres a label that says nvidia geforce gt 635 (hopefully the info helps)

    so i went back to the apple store and the only solution was to trade in your phone for a new one because there was a faulty conector in the microport. hopefully you have a waranty and your stuff backed up!

  • Advice re the 'three day wait' for speed re-set pl...

    I've had on-going issues with ADSL and phone line for months. Eight engineer visits now - various parts of the internal and external wiring replaced - now completely new socket, drop-line, BT filter, the works.
    B/band is plugged directly into main socket, and we have no extensions connected.
    Latest engineer visit was yesterday, and a fault tracked to 513 metres away - engineer and a mate fixed a 'fault in a joint', and got a note through the door (I'd left by then) from the BT openreach team saying 'hopefully fault has cleared'.
    Got an automated text form BT asking me to please wait up to three days for broadband speed to get up to normal.
    Noisy phone line has certainly now gone, and we're not getting b/band 'drop-outs' as before, but VERY slow. 0.2BMs or thereabouts. Now I like a bit of nostalgia as much as the next guy, but I don't really want to return to the days of dial-up!
    So the question, please, is can we really expect things to improve over the next couple of days if it's as slow as this? On the good days, we used to get 12MBs regularly. I miss it... I'm just concerned that if it's as slow as this there is still a fault somewhere, and I might need to crack on and go the the laborious process of convincing the people on the phone that I need another engineer visit.

    it is possible that your line is now recovering from all the drops in connection including the work done by the engineer so
    in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
    are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
    Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
    Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Please Help, Had an awful day waiting for at&t to reset account?

    Can someone tell me how long it takes AT&T to reset and account to show that one is eligible for an upgrade? .......At&t rep advised me to switch over from Verizon to at&t before July 11th as porting my 5 numbers over would be easier and I would be ready for the i-phone. So I did that, I ported 5 phones over to at&t from Verizon, got my kids the phones they wanted with a 2 year plan, and my husband and myself were given 2 Free Phones, and were told to come back on the 11th when they would swap those phones for i-phones. On Launch day, at&t ran out of phones, whereas apple had plenty!! The at&t rep told me to come back at 9:30 am and he would put aside 2 i-phones.... I got there, and he only had 8 white i-phones, and I wanted the black ones. I complained to customer service and told them that I would go back to Verizon, my contract was only 6 days old! Customer service, told me to go to the apple store and get the phones there, and that they had updated the info in the computer that I was eligible for the upgrade pricing. I waited in the line for 3 hours! When my turn came up and the apple rep started to ring up the 2 i-phones, their system did not show that I was eligible! By this time I had waited at at&t for an hour and apple for 3 hours!!! I was pretty upset.... So after a back and forth between the apple rep and at&t.... The final outcome, at&t cancelled my contract and say that, my account is still open, and it was the only way the account would reset which would show that I was eligible for the upgrade!!!! I was told 20 minutes to re-set, then I was told 2 to 3 hours, then I was told up to 24 hours, and someone also said 72 hours!!!!!
    Please advise if you know or have come across the same problem.....

  • Iphoto 09, the slider for the thumbnail doesn't show full size image

    The slider in the lower left that when to the left shows small thumbnails and when to the right, to the "head icon", shows the image enlarged to fill the window, is broken in iPhoto 09. When you slide all the way to the right or click the head icon, the biggest the images magnify to is thumbnails sized to four across and three high thumbnails (displaying 12 big thumbnails rather than one screen filling image). The only way to examine the image now in 09 is to go into edit mode, which still has the row of thumbnails across the top instead of a single large image.
    This is really annoying and stupid and makes the program much less useful. Why would they change the program to make it impossible to see the images at full screen unless in edit mode? Any way to put it back to the 08 behavior?

    It does seem a bit silly to retain the icon that implies a full sized viewing though.

    If a change is an improvement, I'm all for it. If it is an arbitrary and unnecessary change, it can just be irritating. Like changing the reload button in Safari from the upper left to a variable position somewhere in the upper middle part of the window, a change that improved nothing and probably was a bad idea; changing a constantly located icon to one that roams around depending on the window width.

    I can cope with changes that make things more efficient or improve quality.

    This change in the software is inconvenient and makes the program worse.
    By way of explanation and not at all to defend: It’s a subtle thing, I know. But it does add a level of coherence to the OS. Quicklook in the Finder, for instance, does a similar thing with the same keystroke. Itunes starts playing a track on the same keystroke. So, I’m not sure where the failed analysis is.

  • When I click on the Menu or Choose the Drop down for CC, it doesn't show the options

    I've been having this issue for a while now since the last update. When I click on the top nav options or try to select "CC" or "BCC" when creating an email. The outline of the dropdown box shows, however the listed options don't show or it takes a minute for them to show. I have attached a screenshot of what I'm seeing. I typed out a sentence and right clicked, but the options don't appear, only the outline of a box.

    I don't see any "highlight" moving up and down. Sometimes I have to guesstimate where the "paste without formatting" is, so I know the text is there and clickable. Sometimes the text does show, but it takes a WHILE.

  • I'm trying to sync my device to itunes. It keeps telling me to click the device button but for me it doesn't show up. I've already upgraded itunes. Also whenever I plug my device into the computer itunes never shows up. How do I make it do that? Thanks!

    I need help with a few things....
    1.) My ipod touch (5th gen) was doing what i believe was an ios7 update when i stopped it becuz it was taking forever. After that the screen just said connect to itunes. I've looked up how to fix it and i know it would work but there is a few things...I dont ever use my ipod for music. Just for apps and stuff and I have never connected it to itunes or anything. I need help making it so when i connect my ipod to the computer it starts syncing. But when I follow the directions for that, it says go to the device button and I dont have that option...Help!!
    2.) In all the help videos, it says to do the slide to turn off thing but my ipod never lets me!! It does turn off though.
    Theres a few other things. I need to know if this problem can be fixed if I can't find a way to fix the things i just said. Or if there is somebody that I can have repair it for me. Also if I have a warranty with Best Buy, I need to know if this could be covered. This was a gift from my boyfriend for Christmas and I  use it a lot. I don't wanna have to buy a new one especially if this isn't a problem that can't be fixed. Thank you guys so much!!

  • The program selected for NZB files doesn't show in the open with/download dialog box even though it is the default in Options window - Applications panel

    Grabbit is listed as the default program for opening NZB files in the Applications panel. When I try to open an NZB file it is not automatically selected, nor is it on the list of optional programs. Consequently, I have to click through the list of installed programs in Windows and point Firefox to grabbit.exe.
    Although the file is listed as Grabbit NZB in the Applications panel rather than just "NZB", I didn't have a bit of a problem when I had XP installed.

    1) Well, I can set IE as the default program for html/htm files, as well as any other browsers/text editors. There is no issue in setting the default program for html/htm files. This issue is- htm/html files can't be opened when I click on 'open' option
    (like temporary internet files get opened) just to view the files  in IE when I set IE as default program for htm/html files. Please note that this issue is only when I click 'open' just to view the file. If I download and save the file, the file opens
    in IE perfectly when IE is set as default program. 
    2) Regarding clicking 'open' button:- I want that if default program for opening htm/html files is set as IE, when I click the open button, the file should get opened in IE (as temporary internet files open). This is not happening when I set IE as default
    program for htm/html files. 
    3) Files do get opened when I click 'open' button in IE, but ONLY WHEN default program is some other browser/text editor. And yes they get opened in the browser/text editor which is THEN set as default program.
    4)Yes, I've tried turning protected mode off, lower the security level, set custom level to medium/medium-low but no benefit as such.
    5) If I download/save the file, and then open the file, with default program set as IE, the files get opened successfully. I think the issue is that IE is not opening htm/html files as temporary internet files  (when user just tries to view/open the
    attachment rather than download/save it) when default program is set as IE itself. Is this expected behavior?

  • Setting up an ipad for someone who doesn't have a computer

    I want to get my parents an ipad but they don't have a computer.  I'm happy to use my computer but I don't want to mess up my own itunes account.  Any pointers on how to do this would be appreciated.  They are both in the late 80s so making them tech savvy at this point is out of the question but I think many of the aps will be very stimulating for them.  My plan is to set them up with email addesses, load some good aps and give it to them ready to go.

  • Firefox preview for pdf files doesn't show certain Cyrillic scripts.

    Since pdf preview support was added in Firefox I can't find a solution for the missing Cyrillic letters in the preview of the pdfs which the software in my company generates.
    Other pdf software/browsers with preview don't have issues with the Cyrillic script regardless of localization and OS as the fonts are embedded in the pdf.
    Can you please help with finding some documentation to use as a reference point for finding the solution for this issue?

    In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
    #Go to ''Tools'' > ''Options'' (or ''Firefox'' > ''Options'').
    #In the Options window, select the ''Applications'' tab.
    #In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
    #On the right handside you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.
