5 minute Auto-Lock not engaging on certain webpages

Hi Apple Support Forums,
I have been testing iPads in our organisation for a few weeks now, and one of our iPad users discovered a fairly major bug in iOS 4.2
If:
(Mobile)Safari is left open with either: adelaidenow.com.au or theaustralian.com.au (and possibly other News Corporation newspaper sites, but not news.com.au)
Auto-Lock is set to 5 minutes (as per our organisations MobileConfig passcode settings)
iPhones and iPads will not lock. The screen will not even dim, even after the auto-lock time has expended.
This was discovered when one of our users left adelaidenow.com.au running on an iPad on a table and left it to answer a phonecall. The device had not locked after their phone call.
Procedure to reproduce:
I opened Safari on the iPad and accessed adelaidenow.com.au. I let the page load (while providing input, moving finger) and then stopped interacting with the ipad. (left idle).
I set up a stopwatch and verified that after 7 minutes it had not locked.
The device had been idle for 7 minutes without input and had not already locked.
To verify that it was not Safari (the app, not the web page) that was not preventing lock, I loaded au.yahoo.com (while providing input) and then left it idle.
After 5 minutes the screen locked. (as expected)
I then loaded www.theaustralian.com.au and left it idle.
I step a stopwatch going and after 6 minutes it had not locked.
I tested this against http://au.yahoo.com and http://abc.net.au/news and the iPad/iPhone will lock as expected.
I believe that cause for this is that newsCorp is using a custom refresh script in javascript, rather than a standard META REFRESH tag. Somehow this javascript is fooling iOS into thinking that the device is not idle.
This is a fairly major security hole, as the device is violating a locked-down MobileConfig.
Could others test this and find any other sites that prevent iOS from auto-locking?

I have an iPad 1st generation that no longer has working volume buttons but every once in a while the sound turns on.  So I know the speakers still work.  I have tried resetting all settings and made sure that my side switch was auto lock not auto mute. I have tried the mystical swiping upward on the screen with 4 fingers to get some special sound menu (which I never succeeded in getting).  My headphone jack doesn't work all the time either so some times my kids can hear their games and sometimes they can't.  I am super frustrated at this point.  So any suggestions would be great.  Am I missing something basic or do we just have a soundless iPad now?

  • New iPad Auto-Lock not functioing

For some reason my New iPad Auto-Lock feature has stopped functioning. Auto-Lock, under general settings, is set at 2 minutes, yet it never engages.
What could be causing this problem?

Try a couple of basic troubleshooting steps and see if that fixes it.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Auto Lock not working when connected to Macbook

Ive had my ipod for about a week and I thought auto-lock was working even when the ipod is connected to my computer.
But I just realized that the auto-lock is not working when it is connected to the computer.
    Is this normal?
Also when I set the brightness to the lowest setting, the screen slightly flickers intermittently.
    Is this normal too?
    Thanks

Do you have more than one IDM Server running in your environment? When you are debugging a WF on server A and the scheduler decides (usually after an approval step) to continue running the WF on server B, your debugger connecting to server A wouldnt stop at the breakpoint.
Can you make the debugger stop on e.g. the "start" or very first Activity in your wf? Right after launching it from the form.

  • IPhone 4S screen auto lock not working with Music Playback, while connected to the Computer via USB

    Hello Everyone,
I have an iPhone 4S, updated to the latest version of iOS (7.1). Recently, I noticed that my iPhone's screen doesn't autolock automatically whenever it's connected via the sync cable to my Laptop Computer (A Dell Studio running Windows 8.1 Pro). This happens regardless of whether iTunes is running or not. Whenever the music playback is on, the screen just gets dimmed after a while (as it always does before the screen auto-lock triggers), and stays like that. However, when I stop music playback, the auto-lock work just fine.
I want to know, is this normal? I mean, is this the way it's supposed to be?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Rajat S.

ALSO, iTunes has been updated to iOS 12.0.1.

  • Auto-lock not working

I changed my autolock from 1 min. to 5 min. I timed it and waited and waited without touching or moving anything, but it never locked or went dim. Do I have to turn it off for the changes to take effect or is there something wrong?

    OK...
    Try a quick reset:
Hold the Sleep+home buttons until the Touch reboots to the Apple logo.
Ignore the prompt on the screen to shut down.
    No data will be lost.
    Does that help?

  • Some links are not clickable on certain webpages

Hello.  I was wondering if anyone here knew why I cannot click on certain links on some websites.  When scrolling down the page, my blackberry browser just ignores them as if they weren't there, instead of highlighting them to be able to click on them like it normally does.
Very often it is the type of link where you have to click "go" or something similar after filling in a field to search for something.
I assume it's a certain type of code that is used to make these types of links that the blackberry browser does not recognize??
Has anyone else experienced this?  And is there a resolution?
    Thanks!

Since no one apparently had an idea what I was talking about, or how to fix it, I eventually discovered that the "links" I was talking about were clickable elements that included a hyperlink....if that makes any sense.
In any case, my blackberry browser did not support or recognize these elements.
Solution, if anyone is interested, is to download opera mini.
Sorry if this seems basic, but I'm just a guy who wants my phone's browser to function as closely as possible to the one on my mac, without having to use the issue filled device called the iphone (I love mac/apple products, and mobile safari is a superior browser.....but otherwise iphones just suck with their stupid touch screen text entering, awful battery life, and too large for comfort handling).
Anyway, Opera Mini solves this issue pretty much entirely...and the cool thing is that you can still use your blackberry browser too! Maybe there's even an upgrade to the blackberry browser that fixes this issue....i have no idea. If not, there should be

  • Safari 6.0 not loading only certain webpages

When I upgraded to Mt. Lion, only certain web pages wont load. Yahoo and Yahoomail.com load a literally blank page. No error, the status bar loads completely, and I get a white screen. I've done everything from restarting the computer to emptying the cache, resetting safari, renewing DHCP lease on my router, etc... I even added the develop tab in safari to pull up "error console" and "web inspector" and the code is literally blank. It loads at <html></html>.
I work in a computer environment and yahoo and yahoomail load perfectly fine on all like machine with safari 6.0 and mountain lion.
I can't think of anything else to try. It will load in firefox, but not safari only on my computer. Very open to suggestions.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • My auto-lock does not work properly in this new iOS 6

My auto-lock does not work properly in this new iOS 6

Do you have your Assistive Touch on? Per another user in another forum:
    Source: http://forums.imore.com/ios-6-forum/240631-auto-lock-not-working-ios-6-a.html. Username: Chambaka
Okay, I did a 'reset all settings' in settings and problems fixed. Hope this can be useful for others.
Edit: it appears that when the assistive touch is on the autolock function won't work while in the home screen, but will work if opening a app. I hope Apple fixes this bug in the next update.
I tried what he said and my auto-lock's working again - so, I turned off my Assistive Touch. Hope Apple fixes this bug soon,

  • Battery drain problem - question if auto lock is problem

Just upgraded from iPad2 to Retina iPad. Went smoothly with cloud backup and download but experiencing sever battery drain. Went to use it 2 days ago after limited use prior evening (taking minutes in Evernote for 2 hr meeting) and had shut off. Restarted and had 2% battery and totally useless. Recharged overnight to 100% but had no demands yesterday. That evening opened up and found I had 21% remaining.
Did battery problem search at this site, made some adjustments, and recharged to 100% for this AM. Two primary adjustments were stopping Bluetooth and Autolock changed from never (iPad2 setting) to 10 minutes and wondering if the autolock feature is the problem as discussed in the next paragraph. Others I didn't change, gmail set to fetch/manual and Cloud is push. WiFi on and disabling like suggested in some threads would be a royal PITA having to turn it back on every time and counter to the Apple vision of useability. App Store is set to advise of updates. Each of those were like on the iPad2 where had no battery problem, except I didn't activate cloud until just prior to the upgrade. IOS on both machines fully upgraded to IOS 6.01.
Interesting discovery this AM. While I set the Auto-Lock to 10 minutes last evening, the the iPad Cover lock/unlock is set "ON". It appears that the 10 minute Auto Lock is working, however, the automatic lock/unlock is not which would explain the battery drain when set autolock was set to never. This AM as I opened it, had to manually unlock it as opposed to having the cover unlock it for me. As I close the cover and peek under the edge can still see the iPad  illuminated until the 10 minutes kicks in...then manually unlock it again. The cover I am using is the heavy duty RooCase with magnetic clip and had no problem when using it with the iPad2. (Great case by the way!) Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Auto-Lock and Passcode Lock

So even though I'm not the dumbest rock in the box, I cannot for the life of me understand the difference between auto-lock and passcode lock. When I go into settings and then into general, I have set my phone to auto-lock at 5 minutes. I also have set a 4-digit passcode, but I don't understand what the "after 1 minute" setting means. What am I missing? I've read p. 98 of my user's guide over and over, yet I still don't get it. Thanks for any help and for resisting comment on my learning curve.
    imac / ibook / iphone   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

So would my 5 minute passcode lock "override" the 1
    minute auto-lock?
There is no 5-minute passcode lock. You have them backwards.
Auto-lock (which is more like "sleep") is the one that has the various times you can select. But the screen does "lock," in that you have to swipe your finger across the screen to "unlock" it.
Passcode lock adds the 4-digit code to the process. The time you've specified for Auto-lock (1-5 minutes) still applies. The display will go to "sleep" (i.e., "auto-lock") within that amount of time.
But say you've just put the phone down temporarily -- right in front of you, while you're doing something else -- and you see it go to "sleep." Do you want to have to enter your passcode immediately, or do you want a 1-minute "grace period," giving you the chance to pick up your phone and "wake it up" without having to enter the code? That "grace period" is what "After 1 min." means on the Passcode Lock page.

  • HT4623 iOS 6 auto-lock problem

Since I have updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 6, the auto-lock button doesnt work anymore.
In addition, after pushing the button, my iPhone starts to oscillate between the "power off" and "unlock" pages.
The same behavior happens also during the execution of different applications after a few seconds.
Under thes conditions, my iPhone is now unusable.
No clear for me how to step back to iOS 5 until this bug is fixed by Apple.

I use assitive touch as well but not because I need assistance. Some things I just find quicker to do by using it.
Since updating my iPhone 4 (not S) to iOS 6 yesterday (OTA), I'm also experiencing Auto-Lock not working 100% of the time. I've always had the auto-lock time set to it's 2 minute default and under 5.1.1, it has *always* auto-locked. Then today, I put the phone down for about 30 minutes after a brief use. I came back to the phone to find the screen still on with the battery level dropped as well cause of it. I had NO additional apps running...
I am experimenting now and it *seems* that if auto-lock is set to 1 minute, it will auto-lock correctly. It may be that the 2 minute setting is what's causing the issue. As I said, I'm still testing this, again with no additional apps running in my testing...stay tuned.

  • IPhone 6 shuts down at auto-lock

My husband and I each upgraded to the iPhone 6 in November. We have had zero problems until yesterday.
His phone shuts down automatically when the 5 minute auto-lock activates. I reset the phone "as new" but this has not solved the problem.
Prior to performing the reset, I turned on the phone and charged the battery as it had dropped to around 9% from 78% even though the phone was off for approximately 9-10 hours. I noticed that when the auto-lock feature was set, the phone would power off at the 5 minute mark, despite being charged. Once I turned off the auto-lock feature, the phone was able to charge to 100% and did not shut down on its own. We removed the phone from the charger and used it without incident. When the phone was not in use again, it shut down again.
    Any recommendations are welcome!

    Hey tfoxy74,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities, and thanks for the detailed information. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your husband’s iPhone 6 shutting down unexpectedly. Usually, I would recommend attempting the troubleshooting steps in the following resources:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201412
If your iOS device restarts, displays the Apple logo, or powers off while you're using it - Apple Support
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203899
However, it sounds like you have already completed one of the best troubleshooting steps, which was restoring the iPhone as new and holding off on restoring the backup. If this is true, then it sounds like the iPhone may need to be serviced. I imagine it is still well within the warranty, so you may want to check out the following website for information on obtaining warranty service:
iPhone Repair and Service - Apple Support

    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • I am using iPhone 5s 32gb . Since yesterday  auto lock feature is not working ( I have set it to 1 minute ) and occasionally a blue band has startedappearing horizontally on the screen and moves across the screen

Someone please tell the solution .
Is it a hardware issue or os

I have the same problem, only my lines are red. I just bought a 52 16GB to replace my iPhone 4. The old phone started having the red lines moving back and forth, and I looked on some of the forums, and was led to believe that it meant the phone was dying. Since I've had it for a long time, and it was real slow, I thought getting a new phone would be the solution. But wouldn't you know it, after a week or so, the red lines started showing up on the 5s. And now the auto-lock doesn't, and I keep running the battery down because I forget to manually lock it. The red lines make me think there's a virus, since it migrated to the new phone. As to the auto-lock, I have no idea.
Any help would be really appreciated. I had to select a reply option, so I replied to the original post, but I'm hoping someone out there has a solution.
    Thanks!
