5 Phase - ALL LIT ALL THE TIME

Hello everyone again!!
OK... quick question... read in the manual about the 5 phase led indicators on the board... but there was no reference to what the power levels actually mean... mine is showing all 5 blue led's lit all the time.... is this a bug???  Should it drop to less lights when at idle?
Any information is greatly appreciated...

With the x58 pro, all 5 LEDs will be lit all the time unless you use the Greenpower utility with BIOS version 7.0.  If you update BIOS to 7.1, there is a Greenpower setting in the BIOS in which you can enable, and then when CPU is idle, only 1 or 2 LEDs will be lit.  When working all 4 or 5 will be lit.  The less LEDs lit, the less work your CPU is doing, and the less energy it is using. Hope this helps.

That's interesting. The file date should match the system date. What's the system date? What version of InDesign? What operating system?

  • My time capsule is blinking orange and I can not get it to stop.  I have done a hard reset and unplugged it but it continues to blink orange.  This all started because the time capsule stated it was delayed in backing up so I thought I would try to reset.

My time capsule stated that it was delayed in backing up so I decided to do a hard reset on the time capsule.  Now I am getting a blinking orange light and I can not get it to go back to green.  I have had to hard wire the modem into my computer for connection.  I need some help please.  Thank you.

Assuming it is not simply broken, a slowly flashing LED probably means the TC is not receiving an IP address from the modem. Make sure you power down your modem whenever you change what is connected to it.
Having to unplug the Ethernet cable from the TC and plugging it in to your Mac repeatedly so that you can communicate is tedious enough, but endeavor to add the power cycle exercise to that action.

  • Create LOV's for all columns at the time of folder creation

    Hi,
I know we can automatically create the LOV's for all the columns of a database table when creating the folder in the EUL. Is this a good practice or should I create LOV's on demand? What is the disadvantage of creating more LOV's than needs to be used other than the disk storage? I also know it is not a good idea to have an LOV on a field that has a lot of values. I am tempted not to create the LOV's in the beginning, but then it becomes a high maintenance issue if I have to come back and create many LOV's later. Thank you for your input.

Yes, it is not a good idea to create LOVs for all the columns. LOVS should be created only for the columns where parameters will be used. More the number of LOVs, slower the response in opening up your Discoverer reports and if you are using Disco Viewer, the page might take a long time to open up and frustrate the users.
Also it is a good practise to have LOVs defined on the lookup tables or where there are distinct values in the table and not from where these values are used in the table.

  • I bought a 3TB Time Capsule with the intent of using 2GB as space for Time Machine to backup my MacBook Pro Retina; and the remaining 1TB as network disk space for the Apple and my PC.  But the 3TB all went to the Time Machine.

How can I get from what I have ti what I want.  I am a new Apple user and appreciate detailed instructions.  Thank You

The TC is not able to be partitioned. (Well not without pulling it apart.)
You can create a disk image on it.
    See details under Q3 here.

It might be better to do as Pondini suggests and plug in a USB drive to use for alternative data storage.. Mixing TM and data can lead to issues.

  • Does the time capsule work as an external hard drive that you can access from multiple lapttops

I have a mac desktop, a macbook and a pc laptop. I also purchased the time capsule. Will that functional as an external hard drive that I can use to save a share documents between. Trying to figure out the best way to work on documents between devices. new to max and trying to make the full switch but still working with toshiba laptop for a while too.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hello jhettenhausen,
Yes, it can function as an external drive for all the devices.  As for Windows, you just need to make sure that
it is Windows Professional or XP, as they support mapped network drives.  Windows 7 Home Premium doesn't is not capable of mapping network drives.  At home, I have a ubuntu laptop, Windows 7 Profesional laptop, and Macbook Pro and they all backup to the Time Capsule 1 TB.  Hope this helps!!

Before I ask you to check permissions on the drive you save your material and output files, try creating a new project, copy everything from the old one in it (highlight-copy-paste in new project) and save as with a new name. Does this work?

  • Lost In The Time Machine - Help!

    Hello,
I sincerely apologize, in advance, if I am repeating old history here and for all the questions.
Time Machine has got me confused… I’ve read the FAQ’s/Threads but still not sure about how to proceed. I’m a ex Microsoft Windows guy and Mac newbie. And I am completely in love with this MacBook. I’m never going back to Microsoft land.
The Setup is - External 1TB LaCie HD with two partitions to backup a MacBook Pro and a Macbook (250 GB HD’s each).  Both MacBook’s are on home wireless network using the Airport Extreme (not Time Capsule).
Time Machine is optimized to do hourly backup's (which I personally think is crazy...).  The documentation I read strongly suggests not to change the backup time since the Time Machine SW is optimized to work that way.  However, there is reference to a "Time Machine Editor" software (assume third party SW?) to modify the time settings of these backups.  But, it seems the literature does not recommend using it or better yet, use it at your own risk type of thing. I don't do enough "stuff" to merit hourly backups.  I think daily would be optimum.
My initial thinking was, if I have to do hourly backups then it seems that the external HD would have to be directly connected to my MacBook Pro. Which means the other MacBook is not being backed up. However, that was my most likely flawed initial thinking.
So, some questions (tried to limit it to five):
    1. I first need to do an initial full backup on both MacBook’s. So, assume I would direct connect the ext. HB to each machine to accomplish that?
    2. Then, I am assuming, the only way to properly set this up is to connect the ext. HD to the Airport Extreme? That way the hourly backups can be done for both machines over the wireless network. Personally, I would prefer to directly connect the drive to each machine, at the end of the day, and do a daily backup. But, I guess that would not be the best way to proceed and probably a bit painful to do.
    3.  The Airport Extreme has one USB port which is being using for sharing a printer. So, again I am assuming I would need a USB hub to connect the printer and the ext. HD?
    4.   If backup's have to be done hourly, how does that work when the computer is in Sleep mode? How does it work if I am working on something when it tries to backup?  For instance, I read that iPhoto needs to be closed when doing backups.  And I use iPhoto a lot. Do, I have to stop everything, every hour, for it to do its incremental hourly backup?
    5. Is the “Time Machine Editor” SW a safe way to change the time of backups?
I really don’t get the hourly backup thing. I know these HD’s are mechanical hardware and can fail. But I’ve got to believe they are more reliable than needing to be backed-up every hour.
I would greatly appreciate any help in getting this setup correctly. Thanks, in advance, for the help!

    Hello, TeenTitan, Csound1 and Pondini:
Thanks all for taking the time to provide excellent and thorough replies!
Ok, so I think I'm getting it straight now but just a couple more questions to completely cement this in my head.
    TeenTitan wrote:
When you setup timemachine, one of the things your telling time machine is how to get to the hard drive. If it's directly connected, then it's going to continue to look for the drive being directly connected.
If you want to have time machine work over the network; then you should configure the drive to be on the network, and then do you first backup over the network. It's a good idea to connect the computer to the network by ethernet, with wireless off, so the first backup happens over 1000 mb/s ethernet instead of 5-50 mb/s wireless.
Having the drive on the network would make it easier and more convenient to do backups. It would take less work out of making backups. You wouldn't have to remember to 'plug-in.' If some thing stops working there is more to trouble shoot.
Direct connecting the drive is more stable, there is less to troubleshoot if some thing breaks. this also give you a very easy way to control when backups will happen. if you only want to backup ones a day, then only plug-in the drive ones a day.
*Excellent! And also straight inline with what Pondini wrote below. Plus, I was missing the fact that, if I chose the Airport Extreme method I would need to first configure the wireless network with the ext. HD and then do the initial backup via the ethernet port on the Extreme.*
*Also, please see my summary below/final questions to check if I am going on the right path now.*
    Csound1 wrote:
Please ignore any advice about connecting TM drive to the USB port on an Apple Extreme, that method is neither reliable or supported by Apple!
*I appreciate your comment but it seems contradictory to what Pondini and TeenTitan have said. Plus, if memory serves when I first bought the MacBook's and Extreme, I seem to remember the Apple store dude telling me I could connect a ext. HD to the USB port and do backups (though he didn't provide details on how to do that). So, I don't want to dismiss your comment but it was a fairly strong statement. Do you have a document link that expressly says that or is it from personal experience?*
    DMerz wrote:
Personally, I would prefer to directly connect the drive to each machine, at the end of the day, and do a daily backup.
    Pondini wrote:
Yes, you can do that. It's faster and more reliable than any wireless backup, and much better than via an Airport Extreme. Time Machine won't object to it, either. Just be sure to eject the drive before disconnecting it. Then Time Machine will just wait patiently until you connect it again to do a backup (using no CPU).
*Ok, so Time Machine will sense that the ext. backup drive (used for initial backup) is not connected and wait until it "sees" it is connected again. This is a major point I was hoping was the case. This, in essence, let's you avoid the hourly backup time constraint.*
*So, when I properly eject the ext. drive, do I need to adjust any settings in Time Machine? I noticed there was this big "On/Off" button. Or do I just leave it alone and let it look for the ext. HD? If it can't find the ext. HD (when it goes for the hourly backup), will it hang up the system? I think you answered that by saying it will "wait patiently" until I hookup the ext drive again. When I hookup the ext. drive, will I need to start Time Machine or will it do it on its own?*
I'm not crazy about the wireless Extreme method (though it sounds like it would work), so I think I will go the direct connect route.
*Here is my summary of what I propose to do based on the excellent responses you all provided (please correct me if I'm going in the wrong direction):*
    a. Do direct ext. HD connects for initial backups to both MacBooks.
    b. Leave the ext. HD connected to my MacBook pro, at all times, when I am on it. Which it will do the hourly backups. And this is even more appropriate since I use my MacBook Pro more hours in the day.
    c. The second MacBook, which my 87 yr. old Mom uses (LOL), is most definitely not needed to be backed up hourly. She just uses the internet (Facebook, online bridge) and iPhoto once in awhile. So, I can backup her's once a day after I am done using mine and it is shut down.
Does, that sound like a good plan?
Please let me know if a., b., and c. are ok to do and any comments to the other questions I had.
*You all have been FANTASTIC and I immensely appreciate the help!*

If you just want to kill time, insert this Lingo :
    t = the ticks + 1000 * N  -- where N = number of seconds to pause

The only drawback is that Director won't accept any interaction while the loop executes

  • What does it mean when the "time connected" disappears?

I am using a Time Capsule plus a couple of Airport Express devices to extend my wireless network. I have various MacBook models. On all my MacBooks, the "time connected" clock keeps on disappearing, sometimes 5 or 6 times a minute. The clock comes, then it goes, then it comes back... What does this mean? If it is bad, any suggestions how I fix it?

    Something is wrong.
Open the airport utility and click on the yellow light in the summary page. it will take you to the errors.
    Likely needs a firmware update.
    Which maybe worth avoiding.

  • [WTA] MSI P55-GD65 6 phase on all the time? Where's APS?

    Hello, First Post here..
I bought a MSI P55-GD65 lately and it runs spectacular and overclocks nicely. the newer BIOS 1.6 is noticably more stable when High VDroop is used than the BIOS 1.5, resulting in more power-efficient system of my own despite overclocking  .
But nonetheless, i have some issues i would like to be answered:
    1. When I use BIOS 1.5, the core voltage would be dropped to 0.896 (CPU-Z) when i set the core voltage as auto and all the power saving features enabled (C1E & EIST Enabled, C6 state selected, Turbo Mode off). but when i flash into BIOS 1.6, the same setting does not result in decreased voltage, the core clock still slows down though like it used to be. Maybe the next revision of BIOS will fix it?
    2. I searched this forum about APS on P55-GD65, i have found that somebody here had testified that the BIOS 1.6 fixes the all-phase-working problem, as i was having the same problem too. Then i decided to flash to 1.6 too (which work flawlessly with your USB Flasher by the way, kudos  ). But the problem still persists. APS only works when i apply through Control Center. i wonder about APS statement of "will work regardless of operating system" is a true and automated one. And yeah, i have tried to clear CMOS and run it on nominal mode and still no changes from BIOS 1.5. The 6 phase LED is lit all the time unless i "apply" in Control Center.
    My Current system are:
    MSI P55-GD65 (Lotes ILM)
    I5 750
    HD 5770
    Silverstone Zeus 750Watt
    WDC Black 500GB
    Windows 7 Ultimate
    Thanks for your attention.

you have to run the cpu at default settings so (133mhz X multiplier) the slight overclock of the cpu will disable power saving so all the phase leds will constantly be lit up.
Have the multiplier running at 160 because of XPM 1600 memory blocks, and the board runs with 2/3 phases in normal mode.
Are using BIOS 1.3 because of XPM problems with other versions.
