5 row keyboard

Are there plans to incorporate options for a on-screen 5 row keyboard for the iPad? It would be nice to have direct access to numbers rather than switching between alpha and numeric keys.

Nobody on here will know, but to have 5 rows you'd need smaller keys unless you want more of the screen covered - you can try leaving feedback : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • Island 6-row keyboards coming to Thinkpads - your opinions?

Now that the new Thinkpads for 2012 have been announced, with pictures, we can see that one big change across the entire line-up (more specifically, T/W/X series) is the transition to the 6-row island keyboard in lieu of the traditional 7-row one.
    This is the old keyboard.
    This is the new keyboard.
I posted a poll on the Thinkpad forums (here), but I would specifically like to post it here as well, as I feel that this community may be more diverse and represent a more general (or at least different) group of Thinkpad users.
Unfortunately, it seems there is no technical way to actually make a poll, so all I can do is list the options, and anyone who wants can reply with the option number of their choice (and a few words of explanation if they want so).
Please vote only on the keyboard and only as a whole. Therefore if some aspect of the new keyboard appeals to you, but the other doesn't, try to still consider whether the overall keyboard change is attractive to you or not, choose the option that most accurately describes your feelings.
Poll question: How do you like the latest keyboard change?
    Options:
    (1) Very good - It makes these Thinkpads more appealing to me
    (2) Good - I like it
    (3) Neutral - Don't care either way
    (4) Bad - I dislike it
    (5) Very bad - This may be a deal-breaker for me
    (6) I'll make up my mind once I've actually had one to try

    I voted # 5.
The new layout is simply not something I've ever envisioned on a ThinkPad. Not in my worst nightmares.
The new layout is something I'll never accept on a ThinkPad.
    Cheers,
    George

  • The 4-row Thai keyboard is so hard to type. 3-row keyboard is much better and more user-friendly. Is apple going to provide the old 3-row to download? Please....

I & a lot of my Thai friends are having a problem with the 4-row Thai keyboard coming with ios6. It is very tough & hard to type. We have more than 90% of typo. Is apple providing rthe old 3-row Thai keyboard to download? Please.....it is much better and more user-friendly.
Well, your reply is much appreciate.
    Thanks.

Can't agree more. I have no idea why they changed it. The old three row one was innovative and far easier to use. The vowels were all kept in one bucket button so they were easier to find. Wished people made more of a fuss so that they would add the old keyboard back and allow people the option to choose between the two. I no longer type in Thai as it's seriously too much effort.
    Usability FAIL.

  • Insert Rows Keyboard Shortcut

I searched through any topics with "shorcuts" in the title and didn't find this one, so hopefully I'm not posting useless, out of date info...
Futzing around with Numbers, I discovered another unlisted keystroke for all those shortcut lovers out there.
    Insert row above: Control-Option-Up Arrow
    Insert row below: Control-Option-Down Arrow
These shortcuts add rows above or below the selected cell OR row - by this I mean that you don't need to select the entire row to use the shorcut; it will add a row above/below whichever cell is currently highlighted.
Hopefully in future versions, Apple will let us program our own shortcuts; I was a little disappointed about that...
    Cheers,
    John H.

You know that you can create a keyboard shortcut for any item that is in the menu of just about any application don't you? Open System Preferences, then open Keyboard & Mouse, then click the Keyboard Shortcuts tab, then at the bottom of the window, click the + button to add a shortcut. You will choose an application from the drop-down menu, then carefully type in the name of the menu item EXACTLY as it appears in the menu, then choose any combination of control keys for your added shortcut. You will have to close and reopen the application for the shortcut to become effective. If you typed the item name correctly, the new shortcut should appear next to the name in the menu.

  • Front Row keyboard function

I have a laptop and occasionally I do a key combination that triggers Front Row. I don't use Front Row on this computer, is there anyway to turn off Front Row?

You can turn the keyboard function off if you go to *System Preferences* then click *Keyboard & Mouse*. From here click Keyboard Shortcuts and deselect "Hide and show Front Row".

  • Front Row & keyboard illumination

I'm not sure if I asked about this before, but I can't find it anywhere in the forum, so, here's the thing (possibly, again). I have the keyboard illumination set to turn itself off after 30 seconds sitting still. It works perfectly fine anywhere within OSX expect Front Row. It turns itself off when I'm in the Front Row menu, but not during movie playback in Front Row. Could anyone try this, I'd like to know if it's just my computer or if it's actually a normal behavior...

  • We need a 5-row keyboard option

I use my iPad to take notes. Every time I come to a number I need to type out I lose my place.  Also for typing out email address with numbers in it. There is plenty of room on the screen for numbers there.  This is very frustrating to me why doesn't apple get it.

    Tell Apple here...

  • Bottom Row Touchscreen Issue

The touchscreen just stopped working--like in the last hour or so.
It is odd in that it only affects the bottom row. I can't "click" in the message send box for SMS, and I can't hit the space bar, return, or swap to number/punctuation in the keyboard screen.
I have reset, reset settings, and cleaned the screen.
    Any ideas?

I have this problem too. My bottom row is unresponsive. I upgraded to 1.0.2, did a clean sync (did not restore). Did multiple resets. No joy. Think I've go to return the product. Bummer - I'm traveling.
What's weird is that the touch sensor seems to have 'shifted up'. In NotePad when I run my finger along the Space Bar I get all the keys above being highlighted. Yes I made doubly sure my finger in on the Space Bar.
... but then in Safari I can select the Bookmark icon and the New Page icon which is also at the bottom where the Space Bar would be ... weird
... only the bottom row keyboard does not work, which is a big deal cause I can't type space and allMyNotesHaveToBeTypedLikeThisAndICantDoNumbersEither.

  • How to install Front Row on PB 15"...

    Hello everyone,
I have heard a little "trick" that allows you to install Front Row on PowerBook 15". Using Pacifist (www.versiontracker.com)to install the package FrontRow Updates 1.0.1...Have anyone tried this before?
I have tried but it doesn't work...
    Any suggestion?
    Cheers,
    James
P.S. It is supposed to work only by Key Combination like Apple-Escape or something like that but I did not see the key combination in Key&Mouse Preference for Front Row.

Hi, James - I have Front Row installed on my PB and it works perfectly. In fact, I know a couple of people who are using their mobile phones as remote controls.
The problem may be that you need to install Front Row Enabler after installing Front Row. Restart after each installation. The Front Row keyboard shortcut should appear at the bottom of the list in System Preferences:
    Other key commands are:
Arrow Keys - spin and move up and down
    Option+Up/Down - set volume
Enter or Spacebar - select menu, playlist, song, movie, etc.
Escape - go back to previous menu/screen
    Tab - return to desktop

  • E61 Keyboard Problem

I got a E61 recently but I am having some keyboard problems. For example, when I type in '?' plus blue key, I get '='. If I type in blue plus '=', I get '+'.
This must be a keyboard mapping problem. Can anyone help me fix this?
    Thanks.

I tried all the non-numeric keys with the blue key.
    The results were;
    QWERT Row
    Keyboard ! & - / = ?
    Display ! " & - + =
    ASDF Row
    Keyboard " @ + i c bckspc
    Display Yen $ Euro _ ` bckspc
ZXC Row (first three keys only)

  • IPhone IOS7 spotlight erratic keyboard

Has anybody else noticed that the spotlight searching function after upgrading their iPhone to IOS7 seems "flaky"? Anybody have a solution to improve responsiveness?
The problematic behavior noted as follows:
Hardware iPhone 5 with IOS7, carrier unlocked
Swipe down to "launch" spotlight - PASS
    Keyboard appears - PASS
Keyboard in English (US) - PASS, note I have Emoji, Traditional/Simplified Chinese handwriting & pinyin, Japanese Romanji & Kana keyboards enabled, but I normally only use the English KB, and issues have been 99%+ when dealing with English input.
Type one or two letters of a longer word, example "pa" of "passbook" - PASS
Continue typing from like the 2nd or 3rd letter normally, example the "as" of "passbook" - FAIL, keyboard minimizes and reverts to home screen and because I'm still typing, some app icon hiding behind the keyboard gets poked and then launches.
I've kept an eye on the words I was searching for, are the failing letters on the top row of keyboard? I think the failing keystroke is not always a top row keyboard, but I do suspect that a miss-keyed press on top row could force keyboard minimization.

I was looking at the spotlight configuration to improve battery life, and have stumbled into a way to configure Spotlight to improve its stability and avoid it crashing during a search. Adjusted as follows:
Settings > General > Spotlight Search > uncheck everything except "Applications".
Suspect Spotlight's indexing capability was being exceed by the number of objects/records included in the search. Regretably, I didn't have a lot included in the search to begin with. Just Contacts, Events, Mail, Messages, Music, and Notes.
Since I normlly only search for Applications via Spotlight, reducing its functionality to just apps doesn't impact me much. I'll slowly add in other objects, lowest record count first, and see at what point SpotLight starts to act flaky again.
    Hope this helps!

  • Really missing the 7-row

When I bought the W530, I was concerned the the chicklet, island style keyboard was gonna be a problem. It turns out that its not so bad at all. Its not as responsive as my previous T61 keyboard, but still much better than most chicklet's that I've tried.
The real problem is the new 6-row keyboard. I do a bit of programming, and I'm finding that I'm really missing the 7-row. I was quite good with the HOME/END/INS/DELETE/PGUP/PGDN keys in the upper corner. Now, they've got them all on one line, making it hard to use, and they've also separated the PGUP/PGDN and moved it by the arrow keys. I'm not a fan of this at all.
Guess now I'll have to learn VIM

    Seriously.

  • Lenovo chiclet style keyboards?

I heard the upcoming iterations of the Thinkpad chiclet style keyboards are pretty amazing. But how the the Ideapad chiclet keyboards compare? I never really had a chance to demo a Thinkpad with these keys (because no stores ever carry Thinkpads), but I've tried the Ideapads, and quite frankly, they didn't feel too great.
So how do Thinkpad and Ideapad chiclet/island styled keyboards compare with eachother? Are they the same? If so then I can safely assume that I wouldn't like Thinkpads' keys anymore.
    Thanks!

I keep hearing good things about the X1 keyboard, which is what they are planning on using from what I've heard... The one thing that really turns me off is the loss of a 7 row keyboard, also not a fan of the loss in seperation between F key groups.   And why in Gods name do I need a huge Print Screen button on the bottom???   It's a crap layout, and IMO they have gone from the best, by far my favorite keyboard on a laptop ever!  --->  to  ehh, hmmm, umm, no.

  • Disable or alter Front Row Short Cuts

    Hello,
I use a couple of programs that lead conflicts with Front Row's short cut routines. Is there a way to edit Front Row's short cut's or if not, disable them completely? I am prepared to un-install Front Row if it comes to it but I'd prefer to leave it.
    Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks

Are you talking about the command + esc shorcut? If yes, have a look at Disable "Front Row" keyboard shortcut. If no, then I don't understand how programs shortcuts can interfere with Front Row.

  • How can i change keyborad to 5 Row QWERTY in ipad

I have default 4 Row keyboard in IPAD. But i want to use 5 Row QWERTY in ipad. So please let me know how can i install 5 Row QWERTY in ipad

You can't. In some cases, a specific app may includes it own keyboard, but for general purposes the four row keyboard is all that is available. Access the additional keys using the buttons at the very bottom (far left and to the right of the space key. Other characters are available by tapping holding a specific key.
