50.7kbs Down speed!! Next door 2mbs speed!!

I was talking to my neigbour today about broadband and I said the speed I was getting is a discrace and its like using a dial up modem, she was shoked and invited me in to see her speed of 2mbs a second as I didnt belive her.
We both have lines coming from the same pole so presumably from the same exchange, My house is first, then hers so it cant be an extra 1m distance problem.    I have no internal wiring other than the line that comes into the house and the prehistoric box on the wall.   My neigbour has a box that the phone plugs into that I googled to be called NTE5 and as I understand is the standerd.  The Iplate BT have increases speeds but only if you have the NTE5 socket, I dont therefore thats not going to be an option for me.
We are both with BT Total broadband with home hubs (2.0)
Other than maybe having old wiring (which is unlikely wire is after all wire no matter how old it is my electric is fine that wires older) I cant think of what the problem could be.
I should get at least 2mbs speed if other people on the same street as me do.
What could be causing this dreadfull speed and how could I sort it?
Is this going to cost me a fortune with BT to repair or shall I go back to Mobile broadband (and that was with 3 mobile and it was better.... THATS saying something lol)
Thanks in advance for help!

  • Extremely slow DSL speeds. Up speed higher than Down speed. Please help.

    I just purchased the 1.1 - 3.0Mbps hi-speed DSL package.
Verizon speed test shows .17Mbps down and .536Mbps up. This is obviously curious for two reasons: 1) the incredibly slow down speed, and 2) the down speed being slower than the up speed.
    Curiously, speedtest.net shows different results:
    2.45Mbps down, .55Mbps up
What could this mean? Transceiver data follows.
    Transceiver Revision 3.3.6.10.0.1
    Vendor ID Code 4D54
    Line Mode ADSL_G.dmt
    Data Path FAST
    DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec)
    Down Stream Path 3360
    Up Stream Path 864
    Margin (dB)
    Down Stream Path 27.1
    Up Stream Path 16.0
    Line Attenuation (dB)
    Down Stream Path 20.1
    Up Stream Path 8.0
    Transmit Power (dBm)
    Down Stream Path 6.8
    Up Stream Path 11.9
Thanks in advance for any advice/ assistance you can offer. This is extremely frustrating.

OK. It seems as though you're suffering from what some people call "Juniperitus." If you're on a Remote DSLAM that uses Alcatel Litespan equipment (Litespan 2000 for example) along with being connected to a Juniper Networks ERX edge router, there tends to be an incompatibility between the two pieces of equipment that causes TCP connections and pretty much any other form of transfer to see artificial packet loss, which results in transmission. This results in inefficiency in every transfer, so what you're seeing is simply a result of all of this. In the past when Verizon first installed Litespan, they were using older Redback Networks edge routers, which did not create such problems. I'm on a Litespan and happen to still be on a Redback in my area (one of remaining ones still in operation in my area) and I get my max line speed with no issue. It's unfortunate that these actually perform better despite the Junipers being far better edge routers in terms of capacity.
I know someone who should be able to get this fixed for you. I'll send you a Private Message.

  • 10.9.2 causes slow shut down speed?

Last week I bought a MacBook Pro retina and one of the many features that impressed me was its shut down speed. For the first 5 days I had been using it, the laptop shutdown in roughly 3 seconds,
However after I installed 10.9.2 update the shut down speed went up to 20-30 secs. This is with all foreground and background programs closed by the way.
I can pretty much confirm that the update is responsible because all I have done on the laptop so far is watch some YouTube and write some documents on pages.
Has this effected anyone else? Is this a known issue or do I have to accept the possibility that my macbook might deteriorate with each update?

Just something not too far away from these issues.
I have a 2008 Macbook (not recent I know but bear with me), the machine has 8gb ram and recently (past 6 months) 10.9.0 and an SSD
I noticed my shutown times were almost instant, longest possibly around 2 seconds after the install of the SSD so as you can imagine, I was delighted, most apps open almost instantly, the usual Safari, Firefox, even Xcode was quite snappy.
However, recently and by that I mean in the past couple of weeks, the shutdown times has increased to anywhere between 10 and 30 seconds, not new apps installed, not updated to 10.9.1 or 10.9.2
I guess, my point here is, could it be somehting that has been installed/updated without user concent, obviouly not 10.9.1/2 as I'm still showing 10.9.0 or perhaps just coincidental.

  • Cant Even Get 6 When Building Next Door Gets 80MB!...

Cant Even Get 6 When Building Next Door Gets 80MB!??!
I Live in a small city called bangor and our estimate Bandwith is 6-8MB (Terrible) and the university next to my house has got 80!
Why Should We Suffer When they get 84MB/S we live in the city. In My Opinion BT Is Fooling us they dont want to share the other internet speed with the "Normal" people. I Would Like To Have A Clear Explination About This. Or Im Going To Switch to another ISP That aint a fraud

There is fibre (fibrespeed) products available in North East and North West Wales, and the core runs right through Bangor, over to holyhead and down to Pwllhelli, primarily focused on Business. There is also wireless available by a few companies now, though they focused on areas that get below 2mbps, where funding is available from the WAG upto £1000, to contribute the set up costs, strangely its never beyond £1000!.  Until the funding has reached its limit or they stop extending  3rd extension now, those companies will not be looking expand in areas of 2mbps and higher any time soon.  Its all do with the money with all of them.
As mentioned by some there is growing nomans land in the 2-7 mbps range, I would suggest any family will have started or very soon start arguing over who is hogging the Internet.  Where the rest who always got the speed get more speed and people who never got are getting and the rest stay as we are!

  • BT digging path to fix line fault - but Next door?...

    Hi
I made a post recently recently about how my internet and phone line have not been working.
I had an engineer visit today and he said the fault was under the path outside our property, and that he would organise for his colleague to come back and mark the path for the contractors to dig.
That's all fair enough so I went back to work. I came home to find the markings to dig are right outside next doors driveway, I wasn't notified about this, and nor were our neighbors. If they dig there, it will completely block access to our neighbors drive.
I've called BT, but the chap didn't speak very good English and basically said, they know what they're doing.
Is it normal for our phone line to not be working if the fault is next door? The last thing I want is for BT to dig up the wrong path.
The last time I had problems, the mods were infinitely better than the phone support. Can a mod please have a look into this and double check they marked the correct property?
    Thanks

This turned out to be bit of a nightmare really.
BT did dig up the path outside next door, only to find that my line was completely damaged to the point where everything needed to be replaced.
This meant the path, my garden and part of my drive (which BT said they would not do!! It looks terrible!!) had to be dug up just to replace this cable. It was not just a bit of the path either, a stretch of around 15-20 meters from outside my house to the house two doors down.
Lets just say my neighbours were not happy, the contractors made an horrific job of it and left it in a complete mess with mud and sand everywhere. I realise this wasn't exactly BT's fault exactly as their only contractors, but still, this is not good at all.
What makes it worse is that my internet is still absolutely terrible. It hasn't been long since the work has been done, and I realise that it should automatically rise in speed after so long, but if anything it's actually worse than before BT came and made a huge mess.
My line is estimated to get 65mb's down and around 15mb's up. It hasn't changed from that for around 48 hours, and is usually slower, should I not see a slight increase in that time?
If my IP profile for upload is saying 20mb's, should I not actually be getting this, or close to it as I know my line is capable of it.
Do I need my line resetting or something?

  • I live almost next door to the exchange but only g...

If i throw a stone from my back garden i reckon i could hit the roof of the telephone exchange so that's how close i am to it, but my upload speed is only 36k and never higher.
i play a lot of online games and im always getting told by others that my connection is lagging and at times this gets me thrown out of some gaming rooms because people get annoyed at the delay in my updating to the game server. its most noticeable in sim racing games where i disappear from track then suddenly pop up in front of someone and this is very bad for all, and i need to get this sorted fast.
i use to have 56k upload at my old address and was along way from the exchange so my question is why is my upload speed so bad if im living next door to a exchange ??
    my download speed is 510k
    my upload speed is 36k
im on adsl with microfilters i use the bt accelerator and am plugged into the box by my front door so there is nothing more i can do.
When i joined bt i was told my line should be good for 9mb but ive never got 900k the best ive ever got was 614k so no idea where they get their info from.

  • Best Buy has Zero iPhone4s but the AT&T store NEXT DOOR has 80 (with more arriving!)

Best Buy in Mount Laurel, NJ (1400 Nixon Drive) has ZERO iPhone 4s as of 6 PM on 6/28. Despite preordering on the 15th and I am still waiting with no word on when my phone will be in.
So I call the AT&T store that is located NEXT DOOR @ 1420 Nixon Drive. I mean it is literally right next door in the strip mall. I'm told that they received 80 phones today and are expecting a shipment of 60 to 80 MORE phones tomorrow. The rep told me that they will have extra phone for walk-ins, but it's going to be first come-first served, etc.
    I mean, C'MON! It's like a bad joke.
I've heard the arguement "it's not us, it's Apple" from Best Buy, but I guess I'm not clear on why Best Buy seems to have no leverage to get their pre-orders expedited.
Heck, I don't understand why Best Buy can't, at minimum, get a straight answer from Apple about where/when Best Buy will be getting replenishment stock.
As a customer, I don't care who's "fault" it is - in my opinion, it's Best Buy's fault. Obviously, there's no universal shortage of iPhone 4s when the AT&T store is getting extras and Best Buy can't fullfill it's preorders from the 15th.
IMO, the problem is that Best Buy must have a pretty weak relationship with Apple to be treated this way. As a small business owner, if one of my suppliers was jerking me around like this, I'd sever the relationship. (Sure, I know this is more complex, but the principle is that Best Buy has a bunch of angry customers due to Apple's lack of support. That's a BAD business relationship, when your partners force you to lose crediblilty with customers).
I'll never pre-order from Best Buy again. But you can blame Apple for that ...

It simply amazes me that Best Buy continues to point fingers away from themselves.  I understand the RS situation.  They've never been what I'd consider an outlet for this type of situation.  While sad, RS's ineptitude doesn't surprise me.  Best Buy's does.
That tells me there are more fundamental problems with Best Buy.  They either don't have a good relationship with their vendors (in this case, Apple).  Or, they really don't have a handle on inventory and shipping basics.  Maybe, as has been suggested, there's something amiss with employees taking the customer pre-orders and putting their family and friends in front of them.  Still, this has happened at seemingly every Best Buy store.  That tells me the problems with Best Buy are very widespread.
As I posted before, I just walked into an AT&T store yesterday and bought a 32GB iPhone 4, no reservations.  Others have reported doing the same.  AT&T probably has fewer stores than Best Buy.  And, from what I can tell, have smaller iPhone stock than Best Buy.  Yet, they handled it much better.
All pre-orders were filled first.  Then, walk-ups were allowed to buy.  No employees were allowed to buy them, under any circumstance, for anyone, until the customers were taken care of first.  Simple concept.  Apparently, too simple for Best Buy to understand.

  • Why is Codename Kids Next door series 1-5 available to buy in United States Itunes but not United Kingdom Itunes?

I hope you can help me.
I purchase songs/programmes fro UK itunes store, and I am interested in buying the Codename Kids Next Door series. I have seen on the UK Itunes that Series 6 is available for purchase, but not any of the other series.
I am interested in buying them, so I hope you can tell me why series 6 is available for purchase but not the others?
    Many Thanks

Because whomever owns the U.K. distribution rights to that series has not provided/allowed itunes to sell it yet.

  • Visited the house next door. Got kicked out when I offered a gift

I'm not the first and  I won't be the last.  I just got lured into it. Others have described this problem online in much less temperate language than I intend to use.
I am Applescripting away in InDesign, minding my own business, when it strikes me that I can simplify a rather tedious workflow involving images.
So I end up getting Photoshop to open an image I've got the lowdown on from InDesign. It's the first time I've opened the Photoshop Applescript dictionary and I am delighted to discover I can do all sorts of cool things. My script ends up prepping an image for editing in Photoshop.
Then I have the bright idea of writing a second script starting in Photoshop after the edit, doing the housekeeping, saving a copy of the image in a Hi Res images folder, closing the original without saving (it's a Jpeg workflow ) and getting the Finder to hide it in a Done folder, then returning to InDesign to re-link the image to the processed one in the High Res folder.
Finish writing it and then discover that to enter the kingdom of heaven that is Photoshop's Scripts folder, it has to be JavaScript. Applescript not
    welcome.
I've nothing against JavaSceipt, except that I haven't learned it. In fact this has prompted me to download the demo of BBedit and some docs on the language.
It's just that hating to waste some hours of labour, I was wondering if my first JavaScript could be to launch my Applescript. Thus I could get into the Photoshop Scripts folder in disguise and assign a hotkey to it.
Is it possible I could do that with a JavaScript, or are there any other solutions... which don't require expenditure? I am doing this for a company that is tightening its belt so often that it squeaks when it speaks.

Thanks, Shane, I have FastScripts on my laptop. It's version 2.31. I will probably have to fork out another fifteen bucks to get up to version 4, which I see is the current one. If it were just for me it would be the ideal solution, but there's no way I could persuade the company to get it for multiple machines. They have the USBs locked against pen drives, for goodness sake.
However, I have slept on the matter and am about to go all Mills and Boon (publishers of romantic fiction).
Did I say house next door? It's a luxuriously-appointed mansion in which I have spent many a joyous hour ... so long as I'm wearing my User hat.
But when I put on my Scripter hat and approach the servants' quarters, the normally genial butler, Jeeves, goes all red in the face, like a traffic light, and bars my way. I think he suspects me of harbouring dishonourable intentions towards Minnie, the charming chambermaid.
And I can't deny there's... electricity .... between us.  Love must have its way and I have a devious plan.
I could approach Jeeves and address him courteously in impeccable Javascript: "Good evening, Jeeves, set your foreground colour to green for a change!" then turn and call out to my ally, Indy, saying: "It's time to do my Applescript now!"
Since I have been using both the InDesign and Photoshop dictionaries in single Applescripts, surely it would be possible for a Javascript to do the same? I'm going to give it a try.
Will I get to marry Minnie and make lots of beautiful babies or will Jeeves produce a cosh and flatten me?
Any tips or snippets from experienced Javascripters for a total Javascript ignoramus will be gratefully received!

  • I use the old version of firefox and have tried the new one BUT on the new one the down arrow next to the forward/back buttons is not there. I need to have this so I can return to several pages ago, please tell me if the new version has this feature

Old versions have a down arrow next to the front and back buttons to show all the pages you have visiteed and can return to but the new version does not have this feature

( Windows) right click the arrows and the listing will appear. The change may well be documented somewhere but if so I do not recall where. Presumably other OS such as Mac's will also have the feature using some other shortcut.
If this solves your problem please '''log in''' and then click the solved button, the question and answer will then display in search results and should help others.

from my son, in mail version 4.5,
In the "classic layout", at the bottom of your email list, there should be a thin gray bar with a little gray dot in the center.  Hover over that spot until the cursor turns into the "bar arrow" and drag it upward.  You messages should appear below like the second screenshot.  Alternatively, if you are using the newer version of Mac Mail, you could change your Preferences> Viewing to the "new layout".

I'm editing my anti domestic violence tvc. In the living room, the children are fighting and next door, in the bedroom, the parents are fighting. Problem is, I've already recorded the parents' argument sounds in a sound booth and how do you make it sound like is coming from next room in final cut pro ?
    Thanks

    If I understand you:
try, lowering levels, adding eq to reduce high frequencies, increase low frequencies, use stereo panning to move sound to a location approximating "next door." There are lots of EQ settings you can play with.

I want to FaceTime with a friend in Japan.  Can I just call her through my contacts list the same way I would call my friend who live next door to me?

    Short Answer: Yes
When they set up facetime, they either used an apple ID, or (for iphone only) their phone number.  You call using one of them.  An apple id linked email address in my opinion is simpler, as you don't need to worry about country codes and the like.  (I have never tried to facetime anyone out of the country, so I will admit I am not sure what you do about country codes.)
These articles are a little dated, but should help you set up your or your friends facetime if you need to.

  • Neighbors have DSL, not available to me, right next door

Im trying to get DSL, its been 3 years and first time i received the modem 3 years ago on the activation date they couldnt activate it for whatever reason. Now my neighbors have had DSL for nearly a year, and their right next door, in a TWIN building, (2 families) so what is this nonesense? why cant i get it as well. i checked my and neighbors adress on the availability check and both are unavailable...the support seems to follow the same "availability" database as well, what can i do from here

We had the same exact problem.  It was a nightmare.  Our neighbor in front of us had it, and when I ordered it, they kept canceling the order saying we didn't qualify, that we were too far away from the box.  This went on for a couple of months until a new house was built  to the right of ours and Verizon came and temporarily ran THEIR phone line from our house using our extra line.  When I talked to the neighbor, she said they had DSL.  Well that made exactly no sense since technically they were **bleep**her from the box than we were since their line ran from our house to theirs.  Long story short, I called Verizon and asked to speak to a supervisor.  I had that supervisor give me a LOCAL contact at the Verizon office a few miles from the house.  After making a few more calls I got a call back from a local sales rep who apologized and said she would send out our modem overnight no charge and  have a tech at my house the very next day.  We've had DSL ever since.  Up to this point I could not get them to even send me a modem because some automatic system would get my order, identify us as too far away to qualify, and automatically cancel the order.  Call customer service and demand to speak to a supervisor and then  have that supervisor give you a number at a local office.  Keep calling until you get someone who will listen to what you have to say.  If you really want it, you can get it, it is just a pain in the [edit].  Good luck.
