To make a very tedious story short, My Mac decided that it would crash and not reboot the OS. I decided to bite the bullet and just reformat, sacrificing my very important data. I have tried just about every trick in the book. There is one one major problem I am facing. When I try to reformat the internal HDD using Disk Utility. It fails to unmount. "Make sure that all applications and files are closed on this disk.", Suggesting that the computer is ignoring my command at startup to boot from my external recovery drive, and using the Recovery partition on the problem drive, making it impossible to reformat the drive. When the internal drive is removed and connected by another method it is not recognized.
I failed to read the fine print on the box that suggested I purchase another Mac to fix problems with my primary Mac because any utility with the potential to fix the problem can only be run on a functioning Mac.Booting to any version of the Recovery system, the built in partition on the internal drive, a recovery partition on an external drive or from the Online internet system will not stop you from formatting the Macintosh HD partition on the internal drive. So your problem is not that you are booting from the internal Recovery HD partition. It is probably your internal hard drive has problems, failing.
You could try booting the system from the Online system. At startup hold down the Option/Alt + Command + r keys and keep them held down until you see a globe on the screen. That will boot the system from across the internet from the Apple servers completely removing the internal drive as a boot source. If you still can't erase and format or repartition and format the internal drive then your drive has problems and will need to be replaced. -
I forgot my ipad passcode. I tried:
1. Simply to restore the ipad on the computer it is normally synced with, but it askes me to enter the passcode.
2. to restore ipad using the recovery mode option. However when I try this iTunes askes me to turn off the "find my ipad" cloud option (which of course I cannot do as I cannot open the ipad).
3. to remotely erase my ipad, but as it is locked down it does not seem to be connecting to the internet and hence cannot seen through my "find my ipad".
I am completely stuck! Any suggestions please?!?!?I forgot my ipad passcode. I tried:

When using internet recovery it asks me for apple id
Okay, so I got sick of OS X Yosemite. I now really want to go back to Lion so I did Internet Recovery by pressing Cmd+option+R
The OS X that came up was OS X Lion. After it asks me where it wants me to install Lion, it asks for my apple ID. While I enter apple id, it says "This item is temporarily unavaliable, try again later".
Is there anyway to bypass the apple id verfication? Would really like an answer quickThe only way you can install Lion is if you have purchased a coupon to download Lion or if you have the Lion installer on a USB flash drive.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
If your computer originally came with Snow Leopard or earlier installed, then you can reinstall Snow Leopard, update it to 10.6.8, to go the App Store and try downloading your old Lion purchase from the Purchase page in App Store.
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X. You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
installation current.

Stuck at mac os x utilites/internet recovery only option when booting up?
Okay I have a macbook pro I bought from someone for $5, I was emptying the trash and this dude goes towards and it and throws it in the garbage can, I ask whats wrong with it, he says he does not know and it only goes to mac os x utilities, when you put internet recovery so i offered him $5 for it even though it is in the trash he accepts and says good luck and he drives off. Their is no disk drives when trying to recover only internet recoevery, when I try Clicking reinstall mac os x it says install information cannot be found, I Need a step to step guide on how to make a recovery hd, The hard drive is in, and their is a disk1 with MAC OS X Base system.
You will need to boot the computer using Internet Recovery in order to install OS X properly. You cannot use the OS X installed by someone else.
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer. -
Mac not connecting to a wifi network when trying to reinstall OSX using Internet recovery
Hi guys. I'm using a Macbook Air(late 2010 model) and seem to have some trouble reinstallling OSX 10.8.5 using Internet recovery. When I'm trying to reinstall the OS running the recovery mode, the wifi is not connecting. After some trials I noticed that when I run the recovery mode, the network settings are automatically going back to defualt ( I use manual IP address and everything but in recovery mode it falls back to 'Using DHCP'). Just let me know if I'm supposed to provide any other information. I request everyone to help me with this. Thanks in advance.
I reccomend to set ur router back to dchp and after you are done with recovery set it back to manual ip. Or if you have the DMG of the ur installation, create a bootable installation disk. Several tutorials on youtube based on your OSX version and reformat that way.

Internet Options, LAN Settings don't save when using Run As
Hi,
On Windows Server 2012 RTM with IE ESC off I can log on to the console of the server as UserA, I can open IE, open the Internet Options window, select the Connections tab, click LAN Settings, change a setting (eg specify a proxy server), click OK, and click
LAN Settings again to confirm my changes were saved.
However, if whilst logged on as UserA, I right-click the IE icon on the taskbar, select "Run as different user" and specify credentials for UserB instead, any changes I make in the LAN Settings window are forgotten the moment I click OK.
But, if I log on to the console of the server as UserB and open IE, the LAN Settings window does remember the changes I make, so this is not a user permissions or Group Policy issue.
Additionally, if I use Fiddler's "Tools, WinINET Options" menu to access the Internet Options window, I experience the same variations in behaviour I described above depending on whether Fiddler is run from the console user, or via "Run as different user".
Lastly, using Sysinternals's ProcMon, when the LAN Settings are saved correctly, I can see it is done via DllHost.exe (WinInetBroker) calling GetUrlCacheEntryInfoEx which in turn writes the "Internet Settings\Connections\DefaultConnectionSettings" value
to the registry. I can also see iexplore.exe writing the "Internet Settings\Connections\SavedLegacySettings" key. When attempting to change the LAN Settings when "Run as a different user", ProcMon still shows the successful write to the SavedLegacySettings
key but the other key is never written to, there isn't even an Access Denied.
A reference to "GetAppContainerRegistryLocation" in one of the ProcMon captured stack traces suggests this is behaviour new to Windows 8 as part of the "Metro"-style app isolation, however this is occuring in IE desktop mode and Fiddler (which is not a Metro
app).
I believe this is either a bug that needs to be fixed to allow changes to save correctly or return an error when attempting to save the changes if they will be ignored. At the very least, this behaviour needs to be documented.
Regards,
JasonHi Jason,
I have tested in my lab, and got same result with you. below is my test and results.
1. log on with user1>> click "IE" and select "Run as different user">> type user2's credential >>change proxy, click "OK". open "internet option" again, the change was not saved.
2. log on with user2, check proxy in IE, the change was not saved.
Then I tested on "Home Page", zone settings, , I found the changes can be saved.
I have done further test on other applications, such as notepad (enable/disable status base), calculator (View >> standard/scientific/programmer/statistics), the change can be save from "Run as different user".
since this is a behavior of IE, I suggest you submit a post in IE forum and IE experts may give you explanation on that.
Thanks.

I am running OS X 10.9
but when trying to list an item to sell on ebay it say= Sorry. Your browser doesn't support the popular listing options selling form. If you'd like to try it, please try using Internet Explorer 6 or higher, or Firefox 1.5 or higher.
Help please so I can continue my sad lifeTried to see if it is looking for flash and it is disabled or not installed by default; java (not being installed and best to turn it off normally), browser agent to report it as something else.
Opera comes the closest I've read to spoofing a site telling it is IE but you have to do so per site. Also OmniWeb. -
I have the flashing question mark, but when I press option/alt, I'm only prompted to start the internet recovery. Afterwards the Mac OS X Utilities pops up, but there's no start up disc when I try to reinstall Mac OS x or anything.
Hello, sullivja.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here is an article I would recommend going through when experiencing this issue.

Is there an option to use MBR partitioning when you use the recovery media?
I need to switch to MBR partitioning.
I have a satellite C55D-a5240NR. I have my recovery media and I am going to back up my data.
Using the recovery media I see that you can reformat and partition your drive but I dont see any documentation beyond that. If you go that route is there an option to use MBR?Satellite C55D-A5240NR

No. When you restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents, all the bits are laid down as they were. So you get GPT partitioning.
NB When you upgrade to Windows 8.1, follow these instructions.

HT1310 Internet recovery is the only option when I reboot holding option button
I followed all the instructions after my MacBook Air crashed and then flashed a folder icon with a question mark.
But when I startup and hold option button, all I get is 'Internet recovery' and the option to connect to a wifi.
What can I do??The OS X partition crashed. I recommend you to take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller because the disk may be failing.
If you can start up into Internet Recovery, do it. Then, open Disk Utility and check that the drive appears in the Disk Utility sidebar. If so, select it and verify it. If it gives you a problem, try to repair it, format the disk and reinstall OS X.
This may get your MacBook working again, but it's possible that it will fail soon. As I told you, take it to an Apple Store. If you don't have a backup, probably you lost everything -
I have no backup of my files because my mac suddenly stopped working.
I'm using a macbook air 11" mid-2012 mac os x 10.8.5.

i have all the issues stated in my question as of this morning. they werent there last night. WTF happened to my beloved firefox? BTW,
I got an amd dual core 4000, nvidia gtx 9800, 4 gigs ram, running on windows xp sp3.
BTW, windows updated last night, and thats when i got the problems

I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6. -
I really need this. I am still in school and I have papers due, please anything will help!
It's not clear what you tried to do or why, but if you intended to wipe everything clean, run the OS X Installer in Internet Recovery. When it's done, the machine will be in the same state as when you took it out of the box, except that the bundled iLife applications will be gone. All your data will be gone too. If that's not what you want, DO NOT follow these instructions.
