508 Compliance when published as PDF

When publishing my powerpoint source file with synched animations, narrations and tagged images as a PDF, the image tags do not 'carry over' to the final published PDF.
Tips and tricks?
Tony

Connection to a SCORM-compliant LMS requires JavaScript.  In a normal HTM/SWF/JS SCORM output from Captivate the JavaScript required to interact with the LMS is contained within the HTM template file that Captivate selects for the publish.  In your PDF this JavaScript code is missing.  So your project won't be able to "talk" to your LMS.

  • Using Adobe Presenter 7 when published to PDF video files do not play just a blank page, any ideas?

Using Adobe Presenter 7 when published to PDF video files do not just a blank page, any ideas? I am using office 2010 and Adobe Acrobat 9 on my PC any suggestions would be very helpful as the audio and slides work fine though no SWF files work just a blank white screen
    Thanks

The problem seems to be with Acrobat 9. Can you share any such pdf generated from presenter at [email protected]
Alternatively, you can try to download Adobe Reader 10 http://get.adobe.com/reader/?promoid=JZEFU and try to view the published output usingthe same.

  • Shortcut keys NOT working when publish to PDF full screen

We have a series of modules that are published to pdf and the animations run inside the pdf file. We use the Tab shortcut key quite a bit as it simulates the natural progression between form items.
This works fine when viewing the pdf in standard mode. But when you right click on the PDF and go full screen, the Tab key fails to work. It wants to place emphasis on the playback controller.
Has anyone experienced this issue, and do you know the workaround?

If the PDF's page content is not renderable text (e.g., the scanned image/picuture of characters or outlined fonts (which are graphics (a "picuture")) then there is nothing for the Highlight Comment tool to work with.
    So - two trials.
Acrobat's Preferences set to permit "U" to make use of the Underline tool.
Each trial done in Full screen.
#1 = a PDF with scanned stuff. Press "U". Tool is available but unable to highlight anything.
#2 = a PDF with renderable stuff. Press "U". Tool is available & can place highlight over selected characters.

  • How to Change Label Size When Publishing a PDF

We are attempting to print barcode labels from XML Publisher.
This question is not about fonts but rather label size.
In our Word template, we selected a label size under Page Setup.
But we have an odd requirement to publish that document as a PDF for remote printing. When we currently publish to PDF, it only treats the page size as Letter. It's ignoring the selected page size from the Word template.
Does anyone know how to get XML Publisher force the PDF-published document treat the page size as a Word label size (or custom size)?
Note: We are on XML Publisher 5.5 on a Red Hat Linux server.

    Hi Tim,
Need help. We need to print labels (width 6 inches, height 4 inches). Earlier we used to use optio and for labels we had a thermal printer which would print the labels in the exact size required.
But now, we want to replace Optio and roll out to XML Publisher for labels. I have no idea how to go about this. Can you please help.
    Thanks

  • Artefacts appearing on Practice slides when publishing to PDF

    HI All,
I have created a 91 slide Captivate Six presentation for an online course. My version of Captivate SIx   is  240.
My issue is when I publish to a PDF artefacts appear only on the Practice recorded slides. All other slides in the presentation when converted to PDF are blemish free. When I published to PDF i used Flash Player Version 9 setting.
Please help. Would welcome an answer regarding this issue please.
    Regards,
    Mel

By 'blemishes' I'm assuming you mean ghost lines in your output?
If so, the usualy fixes are to increase slide quality to High 24bit or Optimized, and to disable all compression options under  Preferences > Project > SWF Size and Quality.  Once you can successfully publish without artifacts, try turning on the compression options one by one to see if you can isolate the one responsible.  The Advanced Project Compression seems to be the main culprit.

  • When publishing to PDF, only the first page is published.

Have not been able to find the setting to allow all the pages to be published.  In Word or WordPerfect, when I publish to pdf it only publishes the first page.
    Thanks in advance.

Acrobat, absolutely, does not control Corel WP publish to PDF.
Nor does it control the MS Office 2007 Save As to PDF-XPS process.
Corel's WP "publish" to PDF does not involve any Adobe / Acrobat related processes.
Until recent releases, WP used an 'in house' routine to create PDFs.
Not that long ago Corel hooked up with Nuance to provide an improved "publish to PDF" feature.
With regards to Corel's WP file format; it is good to know that neither older WP versions nor the current version is an Adobe PDFMaker "supported" format .
I suspect that this is due to Corel having made the business decision to go their own way with providing a PDF output process.
Best bet for obtaining WP file to PDF information is at Corel's WP user forums which have knowledgeable and helpful participants.
As to Word - again, the MS Office Save As to PDF-XPS method is totally a MS process.
    No Acrobat involvement.
What may be the source of the issue you have is a possible conflict between the Nuance stuff and the Acrobat stuff.
It is not uncommon to encounter conflicts when multiple PDF creation processes are installed.
Regardless, the issue you have is not an Acrobat exclusive one.

  • View output button disabled when publishing to pdf

I am using Captivate 4 and must publish all my Captivate files to pdf for distribution throughout my organisation. I have two issues:
    1) After publishing to pdf, the View Output button is disabled, and I get the message you must have Adobe Reader 9 or better installed to view
I have Adobe Reader XI installed
I am able to open the pdf from my desktop
I saw elsewhere to try unticking the Zip files output option. Zip files and all other output options are unticked
I have tried publishing using Flash Player 7 (the earliest version available in the Flash Player Version menu) with same result
So the question is, is there some setting I am missing to enable the view output button, or another solution?
    2) This wouldn't really be a problem, except some users with Adobe 9 installed are reporting they cannot open the pdfs from their desktop. I thought I would try publishing so that output is compatible with earlier versions of Adobe Reader but can't figure out how to do that.
So, is there some way to publish to be compatible with Adobe Reader 8 or earlier? Also, many users are accessing videos through a terminal server - could that be  the problem?
    Thanks very much in advance

You aren't printing the PDF.  You're printing the spool because the user ID has the print immediately field selected and the GET_PRINT_PARAMETERS picks up that setting.  You simply need to blank out the value of TDIMMED in your l_print_parameters

  • Captivate 4 video stops when publishing into pdf

I have created a video with Captivate 4 and have published it into a pdf file.
The video/audio then freezes and stops half way through, almost as if when it was moving onto a new slide.
I have tried publishing to html instead, and it works fine.
Any suggestions on how to get the pdf up and running?
    Thanks!

    Hi there
Not that it will actually help anything, but if you can supply me with one of the Camtasia AVI files, I'll be happy to test for you on my end. I do have Captivate 1, 2, 3 and 4 all on the same machine.
Also, I wasn't suggesting that Camtasia could automatically accomplish this. What I was suggesting was that you could open the video in Camtasia and use it as you would Captivate. You could split the video yourself. Pare away some, publish it as a smaller segment that you would drop into Captivate. Rinse and repeat as needed. Assuming, of course, that your goal is to get this into Captivate.

  • When publishing to PDF, the File Info keywords are not appearing in adobe bridge?

When I generate a PDF from Framemaker 9, the File Info can be seen when I open the PDF and look in Properties. However, if I look for the keywords using Adobe Bridge, they are not recognized. Is there something I have to do to make them visible in Adobe Bridge?

  • Lost being able to publish with PDF.

My projects, Elements 11, have all worked great for me when published in PDF form.  Now I find that I can NOT publish in PDF.  It asks for me to verify with the number sent to me via email.  Yet even though it has my email address correct, I never get one.  So I can not get past that point.
I do not use OutLook. I use Thunderbird.  So I tried to load OutLook to try to get past the problem.  I don't have MS Office on this laptop.  So I can't load OutLook.
I keep hitting brick walls AND I need it in PDF in a few days for a presentation.  I was counting on it working and spent a month doing the slide project.
    Please HELP, thanks,
    Bob [email protected]

    gm ATR,
Yes I am using Adobe Premiere Elements 11 for sure.
I am in the Organizer.  Upper right is Create and Share.  I am trying to
use the Share and the 13th one down is PDF.
I select the file on the left that I want and drag it into the space on
the far right where it says to put it.
Then I follow the work flow.  First I name the file.  Then I have
inputted my email addresses, where I don't remember, but they show up in
the select Recipients (Optional):     And I have tried it without
selecting any recipients.  It does the same thing next no matter what
    I do.
Then NEXT.   That is when the box comes up telling me that Adobe has
sent me an email with verification numbers in it.  I never get that
email.  And yes, I've checked SPAM.  I found some emails there that were
not spam, but not that particular one.
That is my "brick wall" now.  I am so very frustrated.
I've used PDF to create the file I use.  It allows me to use it on
anyone's PC/laptop, and I can advance at my own speed, go backwards, etc
all without the "slide show" being in control and going at its speed.
I have published my presentation in a format that will show at 5 secs
per slide and I can increase or decrease the speed.  But I can NOT go
back without going back to the beginning each time. With 500 slides,
    that does NOT work.
I can not advance forward,  I have to wait for the slideshow to do its
thing and I can only pause.
I have some movies to show inside the presentation so I have to mark the
spots on my laptop screen with a grease pencil and get the moving dot
and drag it to that spot after showing the movie.  That is sloppy.
Thanks for trying to help me.  I need a format where I have control and
can stop, advance, backup, etc. without the "recorded speed" being in
    control.
    thanks.

  • Viewing language property on PDF document (508 compliance)

I'm currently working on a content management system that produces some PDF files to be published to external web sites. These PDF files have to be 508 compliant and one of the requirements listed by the user group is to have a Language set on the document.   Using iText I'm setting the language property to the corresponding locale and I can see the value set on an editable dropdown on my Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, so far so good. Problem is, I cannot see the language code value when viewing properties on any given document on Adobe Reader.
I checked the Adobe Reader 508 compliance overview document and there is no mention of document properties such as language so I'm guessing language does not get displayed on Adobe Reader?  It isn't obvious to me why showing the language code value on the document properties would be an accessibility requirement but I just need to double check.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem-I have several papers due by Friday and so
far this is my only hang up!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Word 2013 - Publish as PDF or XPS button causes excessive registry queries / high CPU when added to quick access toolbar

After installing Office 2013 Pro Plus on our XenApp 6.5 environment we noticed a drop in performance. Using taskmanager we could see winword.exe hit 20+% CPU usage when filling just 1 line with the same letter.
Some investigating lead us to the "Publish as PDF or XPS button", when it is added to the quick access toolbar the cpu usage doubles during keystrokes. Using procmon I noticed excessive registry reading, up to 150,000 lines in 10 seconds.
It seems to be a constant loop of the same queries to approx. 100 components in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components\
I reproduced this in 3 different setups:
    Win2008R2 + Office2013 Pro Plus 32-bit + Office 2013 updates until 12-nov 2014
    Win 8.1 Laptop + Office2013 Pro Plus 32-bit + Office 2013 updates until 05-jan 2015
    Win 8.1 Desktop + Office2013 Pro Plus 64-bit + Office 2013 updates until 17-dec 2014
Can anyone verify this behaviour? For now we've removed the shortcut from the quick access toolbar in our environment.

I'll do that, I'm however still interested if somebody can confirm the excessive registry queries.
    As a brief test, I captured winword.exe (2013) registry-reads on my Win8.1 pc (64bit Windows), with ProcMon.
this is over a capture period of less than one second
2092 of 2352 contain "component" in the reg path
this is when I have winword open and whilst "File, Export" is displayed (this is what offers the export-to-PDF option)
vs.  168 registry operations in an interval of 10 seconds, by winword.exe, if word is simply "running in background with an open blank document"
I'm not sure if that is useful, but it seems an awful lot of registry reads/writes from an application which isn't apparently doing anything at the time..
EDIT: similar registry read/write rate, when save-as-pdf is added to QAT (again sitting idle on a blank document). the registry read/write rate drops back down to 160 if the save-as-pdf feature is then removed from QAT.

  • Need Guidance on Section 508 Compliance (This is a "When" question - not a "How")

Hi, I've been doing a lot of research on Section 508 compliance and I am totally clear on how it is handled in Captivate.  I am just not sure when it needs to be implemented.
I have a software demo I am working on that is basically, self-running.  The user sits, watches, and listens.  There are a few times when there is some user interaction (They have to click on something to go to another section or something), and I totally get implementing the accessibility features for those elements.  What I don't get is, am I supposed to add accessibility to all of the other objects that appear on the stage during the self-running part of the demo?  For example, if a visually impaired person were listening to my demo (the entire demo is narrated) would they really want their screen reader reading off elements on the screen at the same time?
Anyone who could shed some light on the types of accessibility features that should be enabled during narrated, self-running demos would be greatly appreciated! (Closed Captioning aside)
    Thanks!
    Vicky

Basically, the only need yo're addressing is for visually impaired users here, correct? Most visually disabled learners are going to turn off the audio on a presentation because it interferes with the screen reader.
The simplest way to test if the demo is accessible is to listen to the narration or read it without the visual cues. If you find there are elements that are not expressed in the narration that are necessary to the demo, you may want to create an accessible text equivalent that describes what is happening on the screen in addition to the narration, insert it in the slide notes for your project and create directions that highlight this option for those learners.
