508 Compliant Skins

Does anybody know where I may get a skin that I can use with
WebHelp that is section 508 compliant. During generation of the
Hlp, RoboHelp asks if your application has to be 508 compliant. If
the box is checked, it will not apply any skins and without skins,
the Search does not have a text box, where users would be able to
enter text to search for. I am wondering if some one have developed
a skin, that is 508 compliant, but has a text box build in the
Search navigation. Currently the Search is managed via a list of
links.

Hi all and welcome to the community prabhatkk
Ummm, I certainly don't mean to be argumentative, but if you
look at the output options for WebHelp, you will notice that if you
choose to enable Section 508 compliancy, the ability to use skins
is lost. This tells me that skins in and of themselves (or possibly
by their very nature) don't lend themselves to being compliant.
When you think about it, it does make sense. Section 508 is
geared toward disabled individuals. Normally, this means they are
using screen readers to "display" their browsing experience. All
those pretty visual elements would be totally lost and wasted on
someone visually impaired.
Usually I will recommend generating WebHelp twice to two
different folders. One folder containing a skinned system and
another containing the Section 508 compliant system. Then you can
do one of a couple of things.
1. Offer a link from the web site that will open either
version.
2. Within a skinned WebHelp system, have a link that opens
the Section 508 compliant version.

  • Closed Captions not 508 Compliant!

    In order to be Section 508 compliant – required by government (US) contracts – I need to be able to keep the closed caption on the screen until the user clicks or performs the requested task or indicates that they are done with that slide. Right now all I get is Closed Captions while the audio is playing. I know that I can add silence at the end of audio clips but the closed captions just blanks out when the audio clip is over. It is not physically possible for the hearing impaired to watch the action on the screen (how to use software for instance) and read closed captions at the same time, therefore the closed caption needs to remain “on” for the rest of the slide – or at least that should be an option. Without this option the closed captions and are useless for functional closed captioning and can’t be made Government (US) Section 508 compliant.
    Does anyone have a work-around for this? We have Government contracts coming up and may have to get off Captivate if I can’t make this work!

    I am unsure as to the actual answer, however, the "skin" that include the Closed Captions is actually an swf. The point of publishing to HTML is because some devices (ie I-pad) cant play the swf. So the HTML version skips the swf- which of course includes the "skin".
    That said, I think the Table of Contents works in HTML, so maybe I am incorrect in sayin the "skin" is an swf. Maybe only the "playbar" is an swf. But it seems the CC is still related to the playbar.
    If anyone knows how to use the built-in Closed Caption feature with HTML, I would LOVE to hear it. But I am suspecting the CCs will have to be done by hand.

  • Can Adobe Forms Central produce Section 508 compliant web forms?

    Hello!  I've been investigating using Adobe Forms to create a survey for a product I'm creating. While I love the functionality available to me, when I tested the preview of the form I created, WAVE Accessibility Checker noted the form a lot of errors associated with it.
    I'm curious if there is a method by which one can make the survey 508 Compliant, or if plans were in the works to add this functionality?

    This page documents our level of 508 compliance:

  • Is the OBPM Workspace application section 508 Compliant

    Our customers need the application to be section 508 compliant. Is the out of the box ...OBPM workspace application compliant or would we have to build our own user interface and use papi to interact with BPM?

    You will need to chat with either Oracle Support or PWC should have a Oracle Sales channel or something that can get you this information. I remember reading that they where heading in that direction... other than that it was not an issue for me.

  • 508 compliant PDF document

    I converted a Word Document to a PDF and ran the Full Accessibility checker on it.  19 instances of images without alt tags came up but when I click to see the images, they are random blue boxes placed throughout the PDF, and they are not in the Word doc.  I try to click on them to delete or add an alt tag and they are not clickable. I've made about 100 documents 508 compliant without running into this problem.  How do I delete the blue boxes?

    Hi Jennifer,
    There are a couple of things you could do. One is to assign the little blue squares alternate text, but if you want to clean up the document (which is what I do when I get this) the other thing to do is to delete the square and the corresponding tag.
    To delete the square:
    Select the View > Toolbars > Advanced Editing menu item
    Select the TouchUp Object tool on the Advanced Editing toolbar (it's the pencil over the white square icon)
    Select each item from the accessibility report
    Right mouse click on the blue square and then select Delete from the pop-up menu
    Repeat this process for all 19 blue squares
    Now you got a new problem, there are 19 tags without any associated content. If you re-run the Accessibility check you can then find the superfluous tags. If are not not viewing the Tags panel you can access it from the View > Navigation Panels > Tags menu item.
    I hope this helps,
    Steve

  • Is Discoverer 4.1 section 508 compliant

    I would like to get any documentation if any that states that Discoverer 4.1 or the Oracle Discoverer 9iAS version is section 508 compliant. Section 508 requirements describe the design features and constraints needed to support persons with disabilities.

  • Generating 508 compliant output for access via SharePoint

    In order to make our WebHelp application accessible via a Sharepoint folder, our team lead was able to move all output files (from the ISSL/WebHelp folder) to a single folder then move the files from the resource, whdata, whgdata and whxdata folders to the same [new] location so that all files associated with the RoboHelp WebHelp project are in the same area.  Next, he edited the whproj.xml file and changed the datapath from "whxdata" to " " (null). This works fine for primary layout output that isn't 508 compliant, so I duplicated the same steps after generating 508 compliant output to see if I'd get the same results.  After moving all files to a single folder and uploading to a test server (not Sharepoint), the table of contents page [frame] "can't be found".  I know that the toc tag in the whtoc.xml file has a root attribute that points to "whtdata0.xml".  This file is in the same folder as everything else.  So why does it not show the TOC?
    Thanks,
    Developer2000

    Perhaps the best way to answer this is to ask what your response would be if your support people came along to you saying a customer didn't like the structure of the folders in your application so they had rearranged them and now it would no longer work, what should they do?
    Perhaps best not to post the reply here.
    The folders and files that RoboHelp generates have many inter-dependencies and it could be some are in files you cannot edit. Who knows? It is not something Adobe would document and I have not seen anyone post anything that would help you.

  • 508 compliant

    Hello,
    Does anyone know if XML Publisher tool, is 508 compliant? We are producing a interactive report using XMLP for a government project and one of the requirements is that it needs to be 508 accessibility compliant. I can make the report itself compliant but I do not know if the parameter section and the button section is.
    Thanks

    Hi Tim,
    I turned on "Accessibility Mode" at login and ran a report. I then exported the HTML to a file and ran a 508 test on the HTML. Two Items came back, one I need to add an external style sheet and two I need too associate the headers of the tables woth the columns.
    1, Can you give me an example of how to associate a style sheet? I noticed the <xsl:import href="url"> under create RTF but was unsure of how to use it in the template. I also tried attaching a .css via the word document and that did not seem to work.
    2, This is how our 508 spec for a simple table should read with scope for col and row
    <table>
    <tr>
    <th> </th>
    <th scope="col" >Spring</th> <th scope="col" >Summer</th> <th scope="col" >Autumn</th> <th scope="col" >Winter</th> </tr>
    <tr><td scope="row" >Betty</td><td>9-5</td><td>10-6</td><td>8-4</td><td>7-3</td></tr>
    <tr><td scope="row" >Wilma</td><td>10-6</td><td>10-6</td><td>9-5</td><td>9-5</td></tr>
    <tr><td scope="row" >Fred</td><td>10-6</td><td>10-6</td><td>10-6</td><td>10-6</td></tr>
    </table>
    The one generated by XMLP looks like this:
    <TABLE class=c57>
    <TBODY>
    <TR class=c39>
    <TD class=c40 vAlign=top>
    <P class=c41><SPAN class=c15><B>AA</B></SPAN></P></TD>

    <P class=c47><SPAN class=c15><B>Area Square Miles</B></SPAN></P>
    <P class=c48><BR></P></TD>
    <TD class=c49 vAlign=top>
    <P class=c50><BR></P></TD></TR>
    <TR class=c51>
    <TD class=c52 vAlign=top>
    <P class=c41><SPAN class=c1>61</SPAN></P></TD>
    <TD class=c53 vAlign=top>
    <P class=c43><BR></P></TD>
    <TD class=c54 vAlign=top>
    <P class=c45><SPAN class=c1>1655</SPAN></P></TD>
    <TD class=c55 vAlign=top>
    <P class=c45><SPAN class=c1>71,978,019,099.00</SPAN></P></TD>
    <TD class=c56 vAlign=top>
    <P class=c50><BR></P></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
    Can you give me an example of how to make this use the scope to col and row?

  • RH10 WebHelp includes special characters in 508 compliant search

    I am converting a RoboHelp 5 WebHelp project to RoboHelp 10 WebHelp and the project uses 508 compliant output.  When I click on the search tab I see special characters like $, %, !, #, etc. showing up as search words.  I have tried adding the characters to the Stop Words list and generating the output again but the special characters still show up.  Is there a way to suppress these characters from showing up in search?  The characters do not show up in the RoboHelp 5 508 output.  I am using IE8.

    Hi there
    Section 508 deals with accessibility. This means screen readers for blind or visually impaired individuals. They mouse over areas and the screen reader reads back to them what the mouse is hovering. So instead of a field where you type, they navigate search in a different manner. By clicking links that eventually lead to the term.

    Hi
    You can make it 508 complaint  by choosing/check marking this option from BusinessObjects InfoView > Preferences > Webi > 508 Complaint.

  • Using Data Merge to Create a 508 Compliant Document

    I've been tasked to create a 508 compliant document from an existing InDesign document.  This is a document that uses Data Merge to fill in a form along with 2-3 photos, and a location map.  Each photo and the map need to have Alt Text descriptions.  I know how to apply Alt Text in the structure panel.  I would like to add Alt Text to these graphics in the document I am using to create the merged document.  When I do so then create the data merged document it drops all of the Alt Text.  Does anyone know a remedy for this problem?
    I appreciate any input.  Thank you.

    Australia doesn't have section 508 so I'm not quite sure what is required by law... but if it's a line of type such as a description, should be do-able.
    Two ways:
    1) If the images have a description or a title in the IPTC metadata, the data merge frame containing the image could simply have a caption containing either the description or title on another layer (that is possible from captions) and then that layer is toggled on/off depending on what output is required
    2) Much the same as above, but instead of using the IPTC metadata, this uses an additional field in the datamerge database. A textbox is put above the image (again, in another layer) and that textbox contains the description from the datamerge database. Just as in the previous solution, the layer is toggled on/off depending on what output is required.
    Or am I barking up the wrong tree and need a layman's definition of what section 508 requires?

  • 508-compliant hot spots impossible?

    I'm trying to reach a definitive answer for a decision on
    whether to purchase/recommend Captivate to my client.
    I trying to create Section 508-compliant hot spots over an
    existing screen shot (i.e., to simulate text hyperlinks that a
    screen reader such as JAWS will read). Exploring my options with
    click boxes and buttons, here's what I've found:
    1. Click boxes do not allow alternative text.
    2. Text buttons are the only button type that allows
    alternate text, but the text cannot be made transparent, so they
    are useless if I want to use them as hot spots.
    Therefore, I've concluded Captivate cannot simulate text
    hyperlinks that will be read by a screen reader. Can anyone prove
    me wrong?

    Clinton, thanks for the suggestion of trying NetSpot. The application sounds like it might be helpful for general network assessment although I'm not sure if it can provide much assistance in this situation.
    I believe the internet connectivity issues I'm experiencing have more to do with whatever kind of "sensing"  that the router/hotspot uses. Generally when I go to a new hotspot, after choosing it in my list of avalable networks, a hotspot window will automatically open asking for my agreement to the terms of useage. That never happened at the hotspot I was having trouble with. I was able to choose the hotspot, had an excellent signal strength and was assigned an IP but never got any further than that.
    So I'm not sure what NetSpot will be able to do for me in that situation but I'll download it and try it.

    I am workiing on the Mass Health Insurance Exhange system and trying to publish captivate 6 project that has 508 compliant ability with the following
    tabbing through questions and click boxes so blind users can hear them being read by JAWs a screen reader. Also having objects being read by the reader with their name and description. It is not working. I put in all the proper settings in perferences and title and descriptionns in the accessibility settings and it is not outputting the accessibility descriptions for objects and being able to tab to cick boxes. So if you or anyone you know is knowledgable about publishing for 508 in Captivate 6 Please tell me of any settings I am fogetting. thank you in advance.

    Hi Rick,
    Yes I did enable the accessibility settings in preferences and that is why I am in a quandary about why it isn’t working.
    Please keep me informed if you run across any information about other settings that I should be aware of, other than the accessibility settings in preferences.
