52 ms input latency on X-Fi Elite pro card/Midi controller prob

Hi, I don't know if someone can help me about this but I just bought an M-Audio keystation pro 88 midi controller and I can't get it to work well with my vst instruments(on my x-fi elite pro card). There is a very noticable delay until I hear the notes I'm playing on the keyboard with non-so-demanding VSTIs.
I noticed that with the creative asio driver selected in nuendo, it has a 52ms input latency which I know is too high. I don't know if that's the answer to my problem but if I trust creative, i should be able to have asio latency as low as one millisecond. So that's already a problem midi controller or not.
I'm sure that these problems can be fixed(asio or controller latency)because I'm able to have no noticeable latency at school with the same vsts and outdated computers way slower than mine connected via midi cables which are also supposed to also be slower than the usb cable I use for my controller.
I thank you for your help if you are to reply to this post and I just want to have a decent sound(not soundblaster synth A or B which are about the only ones i'm able to use in real time)for my expensi've 88 notes hammer action midi controller. I will be very grateful of all the help anyone's going to give me.
EDIT: I don't know why my post can be seen double on the forum index
ps.
I think my question is specific enough to post in a new thread because I already searched the forum for my answer and I haven't found it.Message Edited by Goshyouidiot on -06-200707:38 AM

Are they not just recording audio signals there? The strange thing is that not a single software can detect any midi device on my computer, although there is a midi input in the front panel of the audio card. So this is the way i've done it with windows XP. Just installing drivers from the cd, running auto update and everything worked so fine (memorieeees...) and now I'm not able to record midi signals in cubase?or any other software because the creative vista drivers do not support the midi input of the frontpannel (thats what i think)
I just tried a japanese version of the creative software cd which was modified to work under windows vista. I installed everything that came with this software package, but still no luck. When i plug in a Midi to USB interface, it works fine, but not so with the creative front pannel. So i'm going to take a look on the soundcard to get its "hardware id number" so that i can write an email to the creative support. I just can't find any other threads where x-fi elite pro users are able to record midi via the front pannel on vista 64.
I was soooo in love with this soundcard as long as?i used windows xp. It was a perfect solution to combine gaming with music recording (i used different soundcards for both issues before, but it was just not so comfortable than just using one card for both) But then i finally was brave enough to get a windows vista and there it goes -.- nothing but trouble and wasting time and money since then....(new mainboard, new midi interface, tried dozens of different modified drivers to fix the crackling sound issue that come up with nforce mainboards and so on...) If i wouldn't need all of my 4 GB ram,?i would get back to?my good old?windows XP 32 bit version.
Greetings

  • Audio setup / MEDIACENTER theatertek - x-fi elite pro - denon AVC-A1XV receiver - speak

I read all the various posts and faq... however I do not get it.
I would like to see movies with theatertek on my mediacenter (sp/dif out) which has an x-fi elite pro card. I use optical cable to the Denon AVC-AXV receiver. Now I only get the front speakers no surround.
Probably I just have to bypass the sound card... but how? I would like not to use analog connections..
Sorry for the questions... but the explanations just do not help.

Open Audio Console, go to the decoder tab and select 'DD/DTS Bitstream Out'. On the DVD software you have to select SPDIF-Out as the audio renderer. If you have installed and enabled?the On-Screen Display it will appear a DD/DTS logo with the legend 'Bitstream' instead of the regular logo.

  • Use X-Fi I/O console with X-Fi non-Elite Pro c

Can I directly use X-Fi I/O console (from Elite Pro card, not the upgrade option from creative) with X-Fi Extreme Music? Beside plugging in the hardware together, what else should I do, e.g. reinstall driver from Extreme Music, or install driver from Elite Pro, or something else? I have neither hardware yet, so would like to ask you guys first. Thank you.

If you need a digital I/O, or Digital access, there is a add-on module in the
"Acessories" Category of the Creative Shop Link above on THEIR TOOLBAR that allows you plug into the Digital In...which provides both SPDIF (Coaxial) and Optical I/O Connectivity for yours and up to the newest X-Fi Sound Cards. Unfortunately, all my excitement as I did order one of these ($4.99, actually cheap for a change) have been deflated. As to being able to finially link up all my digital ouputs to run through my Shuttle system to hear my DVD's Digital Output and Cable TV DTS or Dolby 5., EX, etc. have been dismal at best. For it will not connect in DTS or Dolby, only in a simulated CMMS 3D downmix seems possible. How can this company get away with touting...Dolby DTS, Dolby EX, etc all over their boxes and it does not even handle such capabilities...and if it does...PLEASE PASS IT ON CREATIVE... I have been dealing with your nonesene for years and decided to give it another chance. BUT...as usual, the SOS....different label..that's all.
PLEASE, if you get this, it just offers a hole to plug it in....doesn't mean your gettting the whole DTS or Dolby EX experience....just a simulated CMSS 3D Garbage, (BTW..if you get nothing with this adapter, enable CMSS...then you will at least get a sound out of this)....with a rediculously FAINT middle channel, for what...OH ONLY THE VOICES of the soundtrack that's all....a joke..
Please respond if you know better.....
    Thanks....

  • Adjusting Midi Clock/All Midi for Input Latency

First of all - I want to say that I LOVE Logic 8. I feel like I am working really fast, and smoothly with the new interface.
I wanted to ask about adjusting external midi devices delay for input latency compensation.
I have been trying to line up Ultrabeat and TR-606 synced via MIDI clock and a Kenton DIN sync, and have been adjusting the MIDI clock delay and I can get VERY close. Usually -4ms is the magic number, but -5ms is too much, and puts the drum machine before the beat.
My question is, is there ANY way to make finer adjustments? How are other people dealing with syncing midi devices accurately without having to slice up audio after the fact?
I toyed aroung with record delay, and it did not seem to actually do anything.
I am running a Mac Pro Quad 2ghz with an Mbox 2 Pro. My buffer is set at 64 with I/O Safety Buffer on.

An I/O buffer size of 32 may be too low under certain conditions. You'll know if it's OK to leave at 32 if you run a session with lots of plugs and/or audio tracks and don't experience audio glitching.
On my system, and for the kind of work I do, I was able to get away with 32 until I decided to use GPO, and it simply won't function at 32. Needed to up the buffer to 64; my point is that sometimes a single type of plug will cause you to up your buffer size out of necessity.
But yeah, stick with the lowest size possible unless/until something forces you to increase it.
I think the amount of MIDI delay will depend on the specific interface you're using as well as the reaction time of specific pieces of gear you're using. But it's good to see that you've gotten a good result with your 32/-5 setting.

  • X-Fi Elite Pro - Recording from the Phono Input Prob

    Kit:?
    Vista x64
    4GB Ram
    Q6600
    X38 Mobo
    X-Fi Elite Pro
Audio is taken via?Digital Output (not the optical one) from the External box to a Sony Cinema Amp.
Have installed using the Vista X-Fi CD and updated to the July 2008 drivers.
    Problem:
Unable to record from the Phono input on the external breakout box, in fact only the Line-In on the actual card seems to work, but when recording via the Creative Entertainment Console the recording has what sounds like reverb applied to it. Recording via Vista's Sound Recorder produces a clean sound but is in WMA and very low quality.
    Other Obvious Problems:
Have to manually select the Input port via Vista's Sounds Panel, by setting the required input as 'default device'.
Headphone socket on the external box doesn't anything coming out of it.
    Question:?
Has anyone sucessfully recorded via the Phono input on an Elite Pro under Vista x64, and if so how
    Thanks.

Huhu, right-click onto the window where all devices like microphone or speaker output are listet (record, playback) (Controlpanel " sound") Then you have the option to enable "show deactivated devices" maybe then the phono input is available to your needs.

  • Joe Meek Twin Q Pre-Amp and Elite Pro SPDIF/Digital input probs

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone can help. I've just purchased a Joe Meek Twin Q Pre-Amp and I specifically bought it for a new Rode mic I've just got and it needed phantom power. I also paid a little extra for the digital 'outs', thinking I could take an optic or SPDIF out into the Elite Pro breakout box. The problem is, is that digital is not recognised at all - in Audio Codes it states it's an invalid signal. However, SPDIF is recognised saying it's a stereo signal at 48,000hz, but is only being 'heard' in my right channel.
I have tried the line out into Line In 3, and there's no problem there. Joe Meek representative said it should be working as long as the bit match is the same in both units, which as far as I know is. Am I missing something here? I'm awaiting Creative to get back as it seems to me to be a breakout-box hardware problem, but I could be missing something?
Does anyone have any experience and/or advice/info?
    Thanks in advance

Well, since you're not getting response, let me see what I can do.
I think you're saying the optical connection isn't working, but the coax (SPDIF) one is working, and then you're only getting the mic signal on one channel. The second part is easy to explain, but I never remember the solution suggestions. TOSLink/SPDIF, essentially, are stereo signals, and your preamp is simply putting its channel 1 signal on one side and its channel 2 signal on the other. If you had a second mic connected to the other connector, you'd have one mic on the left channel and the other on the right channel. Basically, you need to treat it as a mono signal and then either pan it into the stereo field, or just duplicate (convert) it to stereo. I'm sure there are ways, but someone else needs to join in with some experience. I'm not sure, but it seems to me if, say, you've put the mic in the channel 1 connector, you could take the channel 1 (analog) output and patch it into the channel 2 line input, and your digital outputs would probably get you the mic signal on both sides.
On both devices, the TOSLink/SPDIF signals are, to the best of my understanding, basically the same thing in two forms. If one is working, than the other should be working too. That suggests to me either hardware brokenness in the preamp's optical out, or the Elite Pro's optical in. or a problem with the optical cable. CL's optical outs can be checked to see if they are putting out red light: if they aren't, there's a problem. That probably applies to the preamp, in this case. You can simply connect the Elite Pro's optical output to its optical input and record something from the digital input device. If that works, the cable and the digital input are probably OK, and it most likely the preamp's digital output is broken (although it could be a strange compatibility issue). If it fails, then it's most likely either a bad cable, or the Elite Pro's optical input is broken. Trying another cable, or some other piece of gear you have that outputs optical, ought to sort out which it is.

  • Elite Pro and vista, creative console resets after ever reb

So, I've given up trying to search for the answer and I have no clue how to go about fixing this problem.
If I boot into visata 32 Ultimate, and go and setup my audio console the way I like it then reboot, it will reset itself to defaults when I boot back into windows.
basically its not saving my configuration. Why does this happen and how can I fix this? It doesn't sound the same as the Digital output resetting itself. I have the latest drivers installed on a clean slate...why does this still happen?
    its friggen annoying!

yep , i see they are supported, the same is mentioned on the drivers download page,
it states that DTS has been re enabled on devices that supported it on XP when they were originally released.
so i have the elite pro, wich supported dd and dts, and still i get no sound form any dvd in dts or even sound from my PS3 input via optical to the external I/0 of the elite pro.
and i have been told that i would need to buy the dts pack.
why ? when i already paid ?250 for the card that supported it from the moment i bought it ?
dts input support was one of the reasons i bought this card in the first place.
i might as well sell this and use my onboard optical output and buy an amplifier that supports dts, at least then ill know that there are no drivers/support problems
?creative you might make the best sound cards out there but that alone only gets you half way there. us customers we need support and value for our money?

  • X-Fi Elite Pro, can't hear PS2/X

Hello. I tried to search the forums, but I either searched poorly or I couldn't find a similar issue.
Here's the problem -- I can't hear either my PS2 or my Xbox using the Elite Pro on my PC.
    Hardware:
    [The good part]
PC does not have on-board audio for the motherboard (no need to flip a BIOS switch).
I have the SoundBlaster X-Fi Elite Pro PCI card plugged into an open PCI slot on the motherboard.
I installed the drivers from the CD as per the instructions. After the drivers are installed, and the reboot occurs, I can hear my normal PC sound perfectly through my headphones (I only have headphones. Speakers will come later).
    Initial hardware check - PASS.
    [The bad part]
I plug the two RCAs (Left/Right) from my PS2 into the back of the Elite Pro exterior console.
I plug my Xbox into the back of the exterior console as well, only this time into the optical input using Monster cabling.
That's what I have set up. No matter what I've tried as far as configurations go on the software side, I cannot hear these two devices. Either through the fancy-graphics Creative Console Launcher, or from XP (SP2)'s Control Panel > Sound options... I just can't hear anything (Playback or Recording options, Mute boxes, volume sliders, etc). I've also tried flipping the Aux2/Phono switch on the back of the exterior console and then trying everything I already tried all oer again.
I'm at a loss as to why I can't hear anything. I went to the store and picked up a RCA-to-Stereo converter and plugged the PS2 into the Microphone/Line-In port on the exterior console, and I could hear the PS2 through that. There are several reasons why that is an insufficient fix to my problem: ) I'd like to hook up the Xbox and PS2 at the same time. 2) I play World of Warcraft, and need the microphone slot freed up so that I can speak to my guild, and not have to crawl behind my machine every time I want to switch what I'm doing. 3) I paid for the Elite Pro specifically so that I could set all this up.
If anyone has any suggestions, by all means let me know!Message Edited by Gimpifier on 09--2006 09:48 PMMessage Edited by Gimpifier on 09--2006 09:49 PM

Ok, as you see in the picture, there are several mixer stri
    ps.
All of them are related to the upper tabs. So:
The Inputs tab bares all the available inputs on your rack and PCI card (just Line In for the latter).
The Multi-Channel Wave tab bares all the outputs available on your rack and the PCI.
Those two tabs are the most important right now.
As I noted earlier, the problem occures either from a mute selection in the Auxiliary 2 strip or a 0% setting to the volume slider of the same strip. Otherwise, you are routing the Aux2 to an output not connected to your speakers. From what I see, no "Mute On" is apparent and you are routing every input to Front L/R Output. Have you tried plugging your headphones to Front L/R and select "2/2." as speakers?
You should also select the monitoring to "Recording" and not to "Playback" (found at the blue field, bottom right). This will enable you to see the input level for your recording source (Aux2 in your case, correctly selected by you).
Your speaker selection is set to "Headphones". Are they connected to the front output?
It might be better to do some troubleshooting. So:
    What is the real problem?
    No signal from Aux2 input?
No signal from the headphones output?
    You say that:

The RCAs are li've and working. If I use the Stereo adapter, I can plug them into Mic-In/Line-In and I can hear them if I swap to Line-In. The problem is getting them to work as they are intended, so that I don't have to monkey behind the PC when I want RCA audio.
Can you be mor specific on this? Li've and working? You mean li've from the PS2? Get them to work as intended?

  • X-Fi Elite Pro Noise issues

    Greetings,
I've had this x-Fi Elite Pro for 3 years now, and since about 6 months ago it started missbehaving like I'll describe. If the computer has been on for a long time the speaker output of the card starts making a crackling noise. Here's a phone recording of what this noise sounds like:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/002586/200227%2032502.m4a
If I change the audio mode with the creative console or change the master sampling rate there's a chance that the noise will go away, but it's a really temporary solution as it will be back within minutes. The only prolonged solution is restarting the computer and start the cycle anew.
I would like to know if anyone has heard about this issue and if there's any known solution such as changing the capacitors, if so, which ones.
To be honest, I'm quite disappointed with the experience I had with creative's soundcards lifespans. I went through two Audigy 2 cards that developed popping noises after two years of use (fortunately got those replaced with Dell's extended warranty). My replacement, if there's no fix to it, will certainly not be a creative card. It's a shame, really, as the Elite Pro is a really good card, while it works right; I'm just not willing to spend that much money on a sound card that's likely to fail within 3 years.

I have attempted to use the Master Auxiliary Balance control in audio creation mode to balance the signal during recording. Unfortunatly I have not been able to make it work as adjusting the balance control has no impact on the recorded signal. I have worked with Creative and to date they have not provided a working solution. I have moved my card from one slot to another, uninstalled and reinstalled the software on numerous occasions and taken every step suggested by Creative. I have an ASUS A8N SLI Premium motherborad. Creative thinks the board may be the issue. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You can also try if connecting turntable through amplifier (w/ RIAA) to X-Fi Line-In makes any difference --> shows out, if the RIAA pre in X-Fi is not working properly.

  • Help connect X-fi Elite Pro with DDTS-100 and Gigaworks s750

    Hi,
I purchased a brand new Gigaworks s750 speakers system, DDTS-100 decoder and X-fi Elite Pro. I connected the DDTS-100 and Elite Pro using Optical Fibre output from the audio console of X-fi Elite Pro to the optical digital input of DDTS-100. With the cables supplied with s750, I connected it to the Decoder DDTS-100. The problem is I am not getting any sound from the rear speakers and the front speakers. Only the centre speakers and the side speakers are producing sound. I could hear loud hissing sound and very very low volume of the music from the front speakers and no sound from the rear speakers. I can hear good quality sound from the centre speakers and average quality sound from the side speakers. What could possibly have gone wrong with my setup ? Somebody please help me. Thanx in advance.

    Hi Richie,
Thanq for your response. But unlike what you have mentioned, ("what may be happining is the soundcard is decoding the signal and then the ddts is trying to decode it with disatrous results"), In my setup the signal is not getting decoded two times, once by Soundcard and once by the DDTS-100. As I have mentioned that I am taking out an Optical Signal from the sound card to the DDTS-100, the signal comming out from the sound card to the DDTS is Encoded signal only. So there doesnt arise a chance that the signal is getting decoded twice. Can you think of any other reason why my setup is not working? Please let me know.

  • Strange Line In problem with my X-Fi Elite Pro. Stereo sound comes and goes

I have an X-Fi Elite Pro with latest drivers installed. Everything works fine, except for the Line In port in Entertainment mode. I have an AverMedia TV/FM card and its audio output (stereo) is plugged in my X-Fi's Line In/Mic In (PCI). The problem is that I get sound only from the right channel but not from the left one, so the sound comes out in mono. From time to time, I get to hear in stereo (both channels) but it seems a random event. This input works just fine in Game and Creation modes btw.
Stereo sound from this particular input comes and goes in random order and sometimes I get about 50% on the left and 00% on the right channel. Sometimes, left channel volume fades in and out slowly. I already did some troubleshooting such as set Line in/Mic In/Digital In to "Line In/Mic In", speaker diagnostics, checked it in Game & Creation modes, turned to default values and so on but I still get this problem.
Seems pretty wired. A ghost in the machine! Creative products never seize to amaze us!

Soo...your're calling me stupid? Well, perhaps your right, but then again, I might have a point!
    Read my post again.
If you still think it's too low with SVM enabled and everything is turned up...then I'm affraid you're out of luck and might consider buying another speaker set, if it's a major issue to you.

  • X-fi elite pro/guitar port set up help nee

Hi people, does anyone know if it's possible to run my guitar port thru my elite pro soundcard, and if so how do I go about connecting the two? Perhaps I'm missing something blindingly obvious, but I just can't seem too figure this one out.
    Any help received with thanks.

Thanks for your help Sirhunter. Perhaps I could have explained my problem a bit more clearly: I can get a signal into the computer no problem; if I switch to tuner mode on Guitar Port it is obvious that there is input. Getting sound out is a tad more tricky. The normal route would be to unplug the speaker wire from the analogue out on the soundcard, run a cable from the analogue out to the input at the rear of the Guitar Port and then plug the speakers into the headphone socket of the Guitar Port and everything is hunky dory. The trouble in my case is that I have 7. speakers that take up three analogue outputs, and there is only one input on the back of the GP.
Is there a way round this, or would it be a better option to buy some amp modelling software and go direct through the breakout box and bypass the GP completely? Again, thanks for any assistance or advice.
