520-1030A unresponsive

Newly purchased 520-1030A is unresponsive when trying to start third party software (eg CloneDVD) via keyboard/mouse -not supplied wireless but a microsoft wired job.  Even touch screen does nothing.
You can double click the icon on desktop as much as you like and nothing happens.
Some times it opens up the program but nothing else happens.
Ctrl+Alt+Del- Task manager will work sometimes but not always.
Thought it may be due to virus scanning, but can't be scanning ALL the time, and with 4 cores this shouldn't be a problem anyway.
Very pissed off with this machine.

Hello Vin100,
I understand that your display is going blank.
Right click on a blank portion of the screen when the display is on.
Click on personalize.
Click on screen saver.
Change the wait time.
Click OK.
Let me know how everything goes.

• Safari totally unresponsive, then crashes - how to fix?

In the same boat as other users, and even worse:  I can't do anything in Safari at all.  The program will open, but if I try to pick any Menu items, nothing happens - I can't select History or anything else.  It's totally unresponsive.  Then, after only three or four seconds, I see spinning beachball - it spins for about 30 seconds, then the program crashes.  I get the "Safari unexpectedly quit" notice.  Over and over and over.  I tried many suggestions in other threads - removing items from the ~Library directory, etc., but to no avail.  My ICloud is not and has never been set to sync with Safari.  I'm just about out of ideas.
As we all know I can't delete Safari and reinstall it.  I did try a download/reinstall over the existing program but no dice. I think the problem is probably a plugin, but as I can't get into any menus, I can't disable or reset anything.  Just for kicks, here's all the gobbledygook - appreciate any thoughts.  I'm on a Macbook Pro running 10.8.4.

Uninstall SIMBL as follows. Back up all data before making any changes.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard (command-C):
/Library
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V), and press return. A folder will open. From that folder, delete the items listed below (some may be absent.) You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Application Support/SIMBL
InputManagers/SIMBL.bundle
LaunchAgents/net.culater.SIMBL.Agent.plist
ScriptingAdditions/SIMBL.osax
Log out and log back in.
Make sure you never reinstall SIMBL. It’s likely to come bundled with another third-party system modfication that depends on it. If you want trouble-free computing, avoid software that makes miraculous changes to other software, especially built-in applications. The only real exception to that rule is Safari extensions, which are mostly safe, and are easy to get rid of when they don’t work. SIMBL and its dependents are not Safari extensions.

• Heavy hdd activity under high memory load, system unresponsive

Hi there,
don't know where to post this.
On a system without SWAP and on zfs root on top of luks encryption when available memory becomes low, the desktop - X-Window Xfce becomes unresponsive.
Sometimes this takes many minutes and it comes back, or I still can close an application with the hardly moving mouse, to free up some memory.
The hdd-led does blink heavily.
Sometimes the X-Window system dies.
Is there something I can do about this, is this expected behaviour?
On windows XP I did run whitout swap for quite a long time - years, and when available memory got low, usually just a programm died.
That way I did like much more, than the system getting slow because of using the swap heavily.
So what do I have?

4GB RAM
SSD

So the first and most easy for me would be to just add swap. Or some more ram.
But still I'm new to arch linux. And better I learn now already, than later, when there might be really bad situations.
The linux-ck package I tried. But there I'm somehow lost how do I integrate the zfs?
I have the following packages regarding zfs:
zfs-git 0.6.3_r170_gd958324f_3.18.6_1-1
zfs-utils-git 0.6.3_r170_gd958324f_3.18.6_1-1
these should be from the following source:
[demz-repo-core]
SigLevel = Required DatabaseOptional TrustedOnly
Server = http://demizerone.com/$repo/$arch
And these updates are running well. That got updated already several times.
I did install just the linux-ck package.
with this repository:
[repo-ck]
Server = http://repo-ck.com/$arch
But there, I don't get the zfs support into the initramfs?
OK, the log looks like this:

Well, back to the described behaviour:
It finally it did kill the x-Window-System, when it ran out of memory, I did run the update from there. It was compiling palemoon.
If I read it right from the log, that was 18:17, well some hours later, that does not really matter. The system was still alive but the whole X-Window System with the running compilation session therein was gone.
So there is no question that it was really low on memory.
After that, I did the update just from the console, no X-Window running at all.
Here is part of the log of free RAM. I have another log of the arcstat, the ram zfs was using. I'm not sure, if I get them time-syncronized.
It's all only in my spare time, there are other things to do as well.

OK, that for now.
Thanks a lot.
edit:
Maybe I should add, this was just a different situation of running low on memory.
There was a webbrowser open, well with quite many tabs. using a lot of memory.
And that update with pacaur, that did invoke a compilation of the palemoon webbrowser - based on firefox.
But for this, I would have been happy, with this open webbrowser getting killed, the system being resposive. Or other tasks getting killed, the system reacting on user input.
I think for being on use as desktop system, it should still respond to keypresses or mousemovements.
Don't really know if there are other considerations for server use. But not beeing able to free some ram by killing some processes, don't really know if that is better on server or desktop.

• Lumia 520 bricked by Windows Phone Recovery Tool

So I'd installed win10 preview for my lumia 520 and it was not good enough for my daily using and i tried to downgrad it. there was an instruction after starting to flash that hol power key and volume - for 3 or 15 seconds and when you felt vibration hit the button to start the process...
i'd tried it but my phone didnt restart...even i hod them for about 2minutes but nothing will happen just blank screen.
when i used windows phone recovery it find my phone but it shows an error that restart your phone and try again
Recovery tool said operation unsuccessful. Red screen with NOKIA written.
what's your suggestion?
thanks for your help
Moderator's note: The post was edited. Discussion of an unauthorized tool is not allowed on the forum. Using such tool may bring unforeseen damage to the phone and may invalidate its warranty.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

As farby said, did you get the updated version AND verify the versions number as explained in post linked to?
AQUOTE FROM THE LINKED POST:
User Expectations & Recovery efforts:
For users who have already unusable devices, we’re continuing to research this situation.  There is no guarantee that using this updated version of the tool will recover an already-bricked device.  If your device is showing the red Nokia logo, please do the following:
Ensure your device has a good power source (connected via USB cable that can transfer data and charge the device simultaneously)
Close the WPRT, re-open, and take the update to the new version of the WPRT.  The new version is1.2.4
Once he new version is installed, re-attempt the flashing process.
If your device is not recognized, click the "My phone was not detected" button and continue the attempted recovery process
If your device is on a blank/black screen and is unresponsive, you may attempt the same steps as listed above.  Devices that do not have the red Nokia logo on the screen are in a different state and will not have the same recovery rate should they be recoverable.  Please do try to recover and share your results.
So while the cause of the failure is know and the application is fixed there is no guarantee that a an already bricked phone will recover with the new version. Also I suggest you post your questions and results in the linked post as it is most likely the team working on this will post updates and see your responses.

• Download error during Save Image As makes Firefox unresponsive

As I too often do, after saving a web page with cmd-S, I mistakenly closed the tab while the page was still "downloading", and as usual, that created the annoying "Download Error" dialog.
(Aside: I use the Mozilla Archive Format 3.0.0 extension, but still, the page is in the cache, so go figure why this error always happens.)
This time, I had moved on to another Save activity, this time Save Image As, from the context menu, in my now-front tab, just as the error dialog appeared.
This combo resulted in having the Download Error in one dialog and the Save Image As dialog both open at the same time, and none of the dialog buttons or available controls would dismiss any of the dialogs. I could press them, I could activate the menus, but Quit was unavailable from the File menu. So Firefox wasn't frozen or unresponsive in that way, but it was stuck. I couldn't get rid of the dialogs or do anything else until they were gone.
I force closed with Activity Monitor.
I realize there was an extension involved, but it still seems like I should have been able to activate the buttons or the close X on at least one of the dialog boxes.
I don't need an answer, but I wanted to tell you about the issue. Thanks.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

• SGD 4.41 Unresponsive admin interface.

I've recently carried out a clean install of 4.41 on a clean install of Fedora 8, and got it serving up applications from a Win2k3 app server using the fix detailed in http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=815&threadID=5330948.
What I am finding is that within half an hour or so of (re) starting SGD the administration website becomes unresponsive. Specifically I can log in, but then the status of the SGD server as 'not responding'. Note: it is still serving apps to a user logged in to their web desktop at this point. If I then try to navigate to a settings tab the interface hangs and eventually a I receive a timeout exception:

As you can see it's not exactly heavily loaded (I've just started testing SGD with a view to deploying).  I should note that the SGD server is running on a VM with 512MB RAM which  about 76MB is being used all told, including OS.  The CPU usage is also low.
I have just tried to list the filters I have in place but the command is just hanging at the command line, from past experience I'll now need to restart SGD to get any more sense from it.
./tarantella restart sgd gives:
Failed to stop Secure Global Desktop services. Try again, or use tarantella stop --kill
Having killed and restarted the admin interface is again accessible - for now.

• Firefox has becomes unresponsive and slow after I tried to install addons (not installed)?

I recently format my computer and reinstall the windows 7, since this was the only solution that I know to fix the problem with Firefox (I previously had this problem too). I download the latest version of firefox 33.0.2 and install it . This version was super fast. But becomes unresponsive and slow, when I tried to install the add-ons. I visited the official website of firefox and search for the addons, when I tried to install some addons, Firefox crashed. From then on, it has becomes quite slow and can't restore previous sessions. Even to type my email address, It takes more than 5 minutes and becomes unresponsive frequently (after I typed each letter).
I want to know whether this is due to some viruses, or this version of firefox is not "stable"

Hey there,
We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.
#Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
#Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste that into the "Post a Reply" box. (Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the ID's. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like)

<br><br>
After you've done this, you could try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
Hope this helps!

Hey sunnyday7!
Here is an article that can help you address this issue:
OS X: How to quit an unresponsive application using Force Quit
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3411
Additional Information
OS X automatically relaunches the Finder when it is quit. If the Finder is unresponsive, use Force Quit to relaunch it. Select Finder in the Force Quit Window or Dock, then click Relaunch.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

• Galaxy Note II Unresponsive for minutes at a time

I'm on my 3rd galaxy note 2.  My first one had an overheating problem that caused the battery to last for 2 hours even though it was idle.  They ended up replacing it for me.  My 2nd one was actually perfect.  I had zero problems with it for nearly a year until the day after the 4.3 update, the screen went off and never came back on.  I just got my replacement about a week ago and I'm having an issue with the screen becoming unresponsive for minutes at a time.
I factory reset the phone yesterday thinking that maybe I had a rogue app installed but it seems that any time I try to launch a game or if I try to browse the internet while an app is updating, the phone is unusable for a few minutes.  It's like it can't multitask. Eventually it'll come back with the phone at my home screen with my background image gone, but eventually it comes back too. It's similar to when windows explorer crashes and it reloads. I'll go through the same process for 2 or 3 more times before the game finally launches or the internet browser is finally usable.
Before I call this phone defective, I was wondering if it's a problem related to 4.3 that I should be aware of?  I installed a monitor and it looks like with no apps open, from a fresh reboot my ram is 50-80% used which doesn't leave much room for opening apps or playing games.  I even installed a virus protection and scanned for a virus (i know viruses on smartphones is a stretch) and it returned no issues.
Any ideas?  I could factory reset it again, but I just did that last night and it didn't help still having the same problem with very minimal apps reinstalled.  One note, I factory reset it with the restore from backup functionality turned off, so the apps I did install were from scratch, not my google account.

I decided to call in.  I tell the rep my problems and he tells me to launch the phone in safe mode. Done. I could reproduce the issue. It then says wifi unstable.  The phone freezes with wifi on. Tells me to turn the wifi off. No more freezing while in safe mode, I guess wifi is the problem didn't think that was an issue before. He tells me that wifi issues have been reported but none of those issues cause the phone to freeze, he said that samsung told them to tell customers to turn that feature (ie: wifi) off until the next software update. He said samsung is working on a fix for the wifi issues but said there's no eta. I asked him for his gut feel and he said phones that are newer than 18 months normally get priority, given that the note 2 was release in november of 2012 and we're in 2014, that he estimated 3-4 months for the next update. I know I can't hold him to that but even if he's right, I have to leave wifi off for 3-4 months?...Now to the best part, "Since there is no freezing with wifi off in safe mode, and in safe mode the phone behaves in the state samsung designed it to be in, I've determined that it's not a hardware or operating system issue, so there's nothing I can do for you. I'm sorry I couldn't send you a new phone or resolve this problem for you, I hope you find a solution for the software issue you're having, good night."
Rather than get mad I realized I wouldn't get anywhere with him so I didn't try to push the issue. I know I have unlimited data so it's not that big of deal, but wouldn't you consider the phone not working regularly with wifi turned on a hardware or os system problem?  It's not like I can uninstall and reinstall wifi.  The drivers are embedded in the system and since it's a refurb phone, who's to say that the parts that were refurbed are really factory oem?
Now I'm stuck with a phone that is unusable randomly for 3-5 minutes using the phone normally with the mobile network/wifi because the agent didn't consider the problem to be hardware or os related and the only way to keep it from having issues is to not turn on wifi and keep the phone in factory default settings.
I'm not going to threaten to leave or go somewhere else because it would serve no purpose, maybe that's why there was no attempt made to help me other than saying no from the beginning of the conversation, but in my 15 years of being a loyal customer, you would think "i hope you find a solution on your own" would be after sending me a new device if the problem persisted.

• Usb 6501 unresponsive causing BSOD(Blue Screen Error)

There are a lot posts about the same issue but mine is a little peculiar so i decided to post it.
I am using two usb DAQ in the same pc(usb-6501, usb-6001), connected to the usb port on the back. The usb-6501 is used to obtain digital inputs from read switches, Sensors through an ssr. The usb-6001 is used to control 2 double valve solenoid, 1 dc motor, 2 indicator lamps. usb-6001 is also used to read analog values of current(using hall effect sensor) and voltage(using potentiometer).
At first i was facing problems with the usb-6001(the usb-6501 was working fine at this point) resetting during operation accompanied by BSOD. Then i learned it was due to my relay, which requires 30 mA of current to switch so i used the ULN2003a to interface the usb-6001 with the relays and after that the application was running perfectly for 4 days.
Now the usb-6501 is having the same problem and when i perform "Self Test" from NI MAX it shows "Error Code:50405" and i am able to reset the device from NI MAX only sometimes, other times i would have to unplug the USB device then plug it back in. As the application is used for an automated test rig the customer is frustrated by this problem. Once the card becomes unresponsive(or after the card is reset) BSOD occours.
I have checked all the device drivers and OS for any errors but they are fine. i have even tried changing the ram to solve the BSOD with no use.
System Details:
Windows 7 SP1
NI MAX 14.0
power saving is disabled
I have attached the latest mini dump files as they might help in finding out the reason behind this problem(File extensions changed for the purpouse of uploading).
I need to know: Is there any permanent solution for this problem? and what is the reason for this problem.

• Totally unresponsive and unrecognized by iTunes brand new iPod Touch 3rd gen

Within less than 24 hrs of setting up brand new 3rd gen iPod touch it is totally unresponsive. While using it, the screen went black, felt a little warmer than normal, and now won't do anything. I've tried resetting by pressing on/off and home buttons. Tried this even after plugging in to computer for 20+ min and still nothing. iTunes no longer recognizes it, so I cannot restore it. I am just stuck with a black screen with absolutely no response. I'm at a loss on what to do next or what might be wrong.  Have been all over this site for a solution, but just can't seem to find one that helps me.  Apple Stores are 3 hrs away from where I live. Very careful with the device, not dropped, not wet, just simply using it.  Any help greatly appreciated... my son is devistated.

See if placing the iPod in Recovery Mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore via iTunes.
Next would be an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

• Keyboard and trackpad freeze and randomly become unresponsive

I've got a MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011) running Mac OS X 10.8.2.
Since a few weeks ago at random intervals my keyboard and trackpad become permanently unresponsive. I don't recall any particular cause or change that would have caused this to start happening.
What happens is that the trackpad and keyboard will stop functioning completely. The computer, display etc. would continue to function properly:
The clock keeps ticking.
If music were playing it would continue etc.
Internet connectivity (via an ethernet cable or WiFi) continues to work as well (a download will continue, and even resume if I disconnect and reconnect the ethernet cable).
Presssing the power button will bring up the shutdown dialog as usual (but I can't use it, obviously, so a forced shutdown needs to be performed instead by holding down the power button longer).
.. but the keyboard and trackpad are rendered inoperable, as if they were no longer connected.
I've made no progress in finding out what could possibly be the cause of this. A few observations:
It has never happened while not using the keyboard (e.g. watch a DVD with TV series for a few hours, and afterwards the keyboard would always be fine).
It always happens while actively typing (e.g. while in the middle of replying to an e-mail).
It is not a temporary problem, the keyboard and trackpad will not become responsive again after some time (the computer isn't particulary occupied with calculating something big, no beachball and no busy mechanical noises).
It does not happen progessively. It works fine and snappy one second, and I'm touching a dead keyboard a split second later.
I tried connecting a USB keyboard but that doesn't seem to work either (I'm mentioning this since some of the linked threads below close with that as a solution).
Possibly related (although I haven't found anything in these threads):
Keyboard causes trackpad to not function properly
Keyboard and trackpack freeze
Keyboard and Trackpad Unresponsive
MacBook Pro Keyboard & TrackPad freeze! Totally Unresponsive!
MacBook Pro inbuilt Keyboard and Trackpad freeze when not connected to bluetooth devices?
I've crawled through some log files in /var/log (via the shell and through Console.app) and found a couple things that may be relevant, although they seem unrelated. Etiher way, I was surprised by what I found. All sorts of errors with regards to Bluetooth and USB stuff. I'm not aware of using either. I haven't used bluetooth in years and though I sometimes charge an iPod by USB, I haven't had any problems with that, and this keyboard/trackpad freeze has also happened on sessions where I started the laptop and never even touch the USB ports in the time leading up to the freeze.

• New T530 with dead / unresponsive pixel in upper middle of screen

I have one dead or unresponsive pixel in the upper middle part of the screen. It is stuck in red color. It is very difficult to ignore  this red dot and it is very annoying to use my machine with this red dot on the screen. What can I do?
I ordered my T530 on July 27th and received it on Aug 20th. I've used it for two days and used UDpixel or similar online tools in attempt to unstuck this red pixel. The pixel is still stuck in red. What can I do about this? Need help. I need to use my  laptop for school.
Thanks.

• My BetterPrivacy addon now Freezes firefox, causing a "Script: chrome//bp/content/bp.js:847" unresponsive notification. I'm still running Ff 3.6, and want to keep BetterPrivacy, but I have to disable it now. It worked just fine until recently.

I have to click on "Stop unresponsive script" to get Firefox to load, and then have to disable BetterPrivacy in order to use Ff normally. I haven't changed Ff or BetterPrivacy lately, to the best of my knowledge, but I can't use the BP add-on any longer.
Just in case, I also deleted my Chrome browser, which I had as a stand-by, but it didn't help. I still get "A script on this page is unresponsive: Script: chrome//bp/content/bp.js:847". Any ideas?
I'm not certain which version of BP I had when this problem started, but today I tried adding the latest version, 1.49, but still had same trouble.
Your "educated guess" is correct - Ff 3.616 and Vista.

I turned off the accelrator months ago. That was the first thing I did. It helped some. The problem is getting progressively worse, so it seems like every upgrade in the past 3-4 months is causing the problem.
