520 First Start Up
I have a brand new Lumia 520 and I've had it on charge for a while now, the screen doesn't have a battery icon on it or anything like that, it just has the word Nokia.
I'm stuck as to what to do with it now, please help
have you tried a soft reset (pressing the volume down and power buttons together until the phone vibrates). if that doesn't work, then try a hard reset using any of the methods detailed here on these boards.

New Tab Homepage is different from the Homepage when first starting Firefox.
My homepage is set for "Google search engine" (or)"http://www.google.com/" . Whenever I first start Firefox, the page displayed is the "http://www.google.com/". Whenever I hit the "Open A New Tab" button that is a "+" (plus) sign, the page displayed is always the "Yahoo" search engine (or "search.yahoo./" (after the slash, there is a lot of numbers and letters)).
A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

Safari 6.0.5 beachballing at first start on lion
After updating to OS X 10.7.5, Safari started beachballing at every first start after login . I have repaired permissions, but it keeps happening.
Are any others experiencing this issue? Iam on a white MacBook2,1, if it helps.Hey Cristian .b,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I understand your MacBook is becoming unresponsive when starting Safari. The following article provides some troubleshooting steps that may help:
OS X Lion: If your Mac runs slowly

If you continue to have issues, you may want to isolate further by starting up in safe mode:

Lightroom 2.4 on XP crashes on first start up
I have the trial version on an XP machine with a 3.4 ghz processor, 1 GB of ram, a GeForce 6600 (512mb) graphics card. Ever since I downloaded the program it freezes all the time. Initially it would freeze on startup and crash my start bar soon after as well. After I installed Photoshop CS3 it now runs until I try to do anything major and again crashes the start bar. AFTER all that if I can get the program started again it runs just fine. Its not maxing out the ram or anything and CS3 runs beautifully without any issues. It will do this on every first start up of the program. If I restart and try again it freezes again like clockwork.
Any recommendations? Should I uninstall and reload or is it system related?I see. I'll give it a shot and see what happens. The answer does make sense in a way, but I have a feeling its more than a lack of RAM and/or updated drivers...but that's just cuz I'm a pessimist. Thanks for the suggestion.
EDIT-
After removing a few unused programs from startup and freeing some ram it seems lightroom won't lockup anymore. Interestingly enough it does not come near maxing out my ram. I can run LR and CS3 at the same time and only under intense usage of photoshop can I come close to maxing out the ram but both programs still run. Even before the modifications LR wasn't maxing out on ram hence my skeptiscism. So, I can only stipulate you were right. Thanks again for the help. Hopefully *knocks on wood* this problem has been solved. -
No setup screen when first starting apple TV
Hey Docbarb2,
You should be able to change the language by either restoring your Apple TV with iTunes or change the language by following the steps in the second article. Take a look at the article below for more information to either get you back to square one or to at least a language that you know.

Finder freezes on first start, But ok on restart
Whenever I first start up my Mac Pro, it can load all the way up to the desktop background, but the dock and bar on the top along with Macintosh HD don't load and the spinning cursor appear. However, if i restart the computer after that, everything loads fine.
I don't know what's causing this. Please help me.
Thanks
-NickMy first thought is the backup battery is dead or near dead. When you first boot up, it may be that because of the low battery your settings are corrupt and it freezes. On the second boot up, now that the system is all charged up and there is power to the PMU/PRAM (or whatever they call it now), that it has enough to properly reset or overcome bad PMU settings and restart properly.
If your iMac is over a year old and you have never changed that battery, now would be a good time to check that. One thing you can try is simply removing the battery completely. The PMU will reset every time the computer is powered down, but if the computer now starts reliably every time, then that was your problem.

Firefox is extremely slow on first start up
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYw4oHHGqJA
That is literally how it looks in realtime when I first start firefox. No such problem in Chrome.
So when I choose first link from bookmarks or fast dial, it takes minutes to load it and in the meantime firefox is stuck like it froze, while my HDD continuously works and works and works...Your security may be monitoring the Firefox startup too closely.
A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

When I first start my Safari and other browsers won't load
I recently upgraded to a MacBook Air from my 6 year old MacBook pro. I moved everything using a TimeMachine backup. I have been having a problem that when I start the day or return to the computer after having been off it a while, my airport will connect but my Safari will not go to the webpages, it just hangs. Sometimes this will last until all my mail downloads and then it will work, but this morning and a few other times I could not get Safari or Firefox to download from the web, even after my mail downloaded, until I restarted the computer, then it they worked fine. It is like something is hanging up my ability to get pages to download from the web when I first start trying to connect.
Thanks for any help with this,
KCPlease read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
When I first started using Collections, I followed someone's advice and always clicked 'create virtual copy' -- so I now have a huge number of unused/useless VCs that I would like to clear out. Is there any way to 1) filter to show all virtual copies that have not been changed (but keep the ones that I have edited or changed in any way, 2) delete the unchanged virtual copies but keep the collection that holds them intact? I can picture a work-around for the second part by color coding all the unused VCs along with their original, deleting the unedited VCs, going to the folder and selecting all the colored originals, dragging them to the colection and then removing the color lable. Cumbersome, but doable.
Umm no not that i remember. It just randomly started happening. I reformatted the hard drive for mac (journaled) but it was working fine since i did it until now

At the point of re-installing my CS4, the system CONFIRMS and ACEEPTS my License # that came with my cd's. The install was done WITH admin rights.
At first start up after install, it states my License # is wrong.
Why?Try this:
Uninstall CS4 completely.
Set your system date back to a date just after November 1, 2008.
Reinstall and launch it.
If it works, reset your date back to today.
If not, you'll probably need to contact customer service: https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html or 1 (800) 833-6687 -
Settings on first start-up?
How do I access the settings that came up when I first started my VADO and what do those settings mean?
I could not find that info in the little manual that came with it.Hi,
Press and hold the toggle button for photos and videos mode while the unit is switched on will activate the menu settings. There are 2 pages for the menu. Press either forward and rewind touch pad to access the pages. Select OK to exit the menu.
These are the meaning for those settings:
. When you select Video Quality , there are 3 options to select for the quality. HD+ being the highest quality while VGA is the lowest. Press the record button to confirm the option. Select OK to exit the menu.
2. You can also set the recording display to full screen. Press the record button to confirm the option. Select OK to exit the menu.
3. At the back of the Vado HD, there is a red light which can be activated to notify the other party that the unit is in recording process. Press the record button to confirm the option. Select OK to exit the menu. If you see this red light is blinking, it means that the Vado HD is charging the battery; usually via a computer?s USB port.
4. When the Tone is activated, there is a sound tone to alert the user that Vado HD is switched on or power down. Press the record button to confirm the option. Select OK to exit the menu.
5. You can set the date and time for Vado HD at the 2nd page of the menu settings. Press the record button to confirm the option. Select OK to exit the menu.
6. When this is turned on, Instant Record enables Vado HD to standby for 30 minutes before it is shut down. If it is switched off, the unit will turn off after 3 minutes. Press the record button to confirm the option. Select OK to exit the menu.
7. Anti-Flicker allows the Vado HD to suit the lighting conditions for best performance. Press the record button to confirm the option. Select OK to exit the menu.
8. TV system enables the Vado HD to output to TV formats via earphone/AV Out/Mic-In connector via a separate composite RCA cable. NTSC system is meant for the Americas while Europeand Asia use PAL system. Press the record button to confirm the option. Select OK to exit the menu.
9. Language provides the following languages for settings. Press the record button to confirm the option. Select OK to exit the menu. -
When I first started using my iPad 3,I thought Safari was just a suggested homepage offered by Apple. I replaced it with Google. This was about 3 months ago(due to illness) don't really remember exactly what I did. Could anyone help me restore Safari? Please, would so appreciate it. Mar.cia
If you want Google as your homepage, open Safari.
Type www.google.com in the address bar
Then tap the action icon (box with a right facing arrow just to the left of the address bar).
Then tap: Add to Home Screen

Mac Pro 2008 always crash after sleep and after first start
Hello, new in the forum,
2 years ago, I replaced the main disk of a Mac Pro 2008 for a SSD Samsung 470 256 Go.
Until then, it always crashed 1 or 5 minutes after sleep mode (which I didn't used much), and not always 10 to 15 minutes after the first start of the day.
No matter if I was working on it or not… Suitcase installed or not (no font problem here). Rest of the day was fine (if no sleep !).
The difference of speed was so big and "good" that I dealed with it. I though that the Mac Pro was a little old for the SSD technology, and that Apple would fix it, with chance…
2 weeks ago, I installed Maverick :
I got crashs during the work flow too. I needed to re-start 3 times at least… Re-start without extension was ok (or not), re-start, crash, re-start without extension, restart ok. I used Onyx, did PRAM too. And sometimes, I needed to re-install Maverick or even to do a clean-install !
So I suspected the Samsung 470 for all (sleep and work crashs) and replaced it for a Samsung 840 Pro 512 Go.
And the Mac Pro returned to Mountain Lion.
Not really better : no crash one day (yeeeees!) and crash after the first start the next day (nooooo!). Every time I tested sleep mode, it crashed.
My system :
Mac Pro 3.1 - 2,8 GHz - Quad
Mountain Lion, 10 Go ram DDR2, ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT, 30' cinema display.
Adobe CS5 alone (minimal install) with Onyx to repair after each crash.
Could it be the video card, the mother board, the age of the boy ?
Thanks a lot !
Christophe SEdit !
I said that Finder and apps were blocked after 10 seconds (without extension).
But it was to clic on Launchpad that blocked all, and 5 minutes later it works again.
I did clic again on Launchpad, it blocked and 2 minutes later it appeared full screen but with rainbow circle, and quit.
- Restarted with extensions. Kernel panic!
- Restarted the mac and the grey screen with Apple blocked, without any mouse this time. 15 minutes later, still blocked.
- Forced restart without extension. Here are the reports of Kernel Panic and EtreCheck:
