5230 GPS fix problem (have gps signal but no gps f...

hi
i have a nokia 5230
software version V20.0.005 / 23-03-2010
custom version 20.0.005.315.02 / 29-04-2010
type RM-588
not updated
CODE 0597862 - Latest available software for your device Version 20.0.005
GPS positioning methods:
A-GPS = OFF (I dont have/dont want data traffic charge)
IntGPS = ON
BlueGPS = OFF
Network Based = ON
Positioning server use = disable
Software used:
Default nokia gps applications - GPS positioning (not the ovi map)
Nokia sports tracker v3.50(0) (S60 3.1) 2-08-2010 (mostly for GPS logging)
Garmin XT
The problem - GPS fix is taking (sometimes) very long periods from 1 - 5 hours or in same cases it does not make a GPS fix. Other times (about 25% of tries) it calculates GPS fix in a few minutes (1-15min).
I use the GPS only outdoors within open sky and hill/forest (not in urban, tall buildings). Usualy is clear sky or clouds, but not storms.
The Satellite info page displays me the satelite signals, and usually I have about 6-11 satelites bars and from them about 4-7 with more then 75% signal. It is very frustrating to have gps satelite signal and not have a gps fix. This is obvios a software related problem not a weak gps signal.
DOES anybody had this issue and know how to solve it? I suspect a firmware bug... but I dont really know.
Thank you.

My new 5230 takes ages to get a GPS fix. Nokia suggested the following. It seems to have given me route not found errors but I'm still testing. I reproduce Nokia's suggestion here it case it helps you...
We understand that you are having some issues with the GPS function of your Nokia 5230. In response to your concern, may we recommend that you power cycle your phone. Please follow the stepls below:
1. While your phone is switched on, remove the battery.
2. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
3. Put the battery back in.
4. Turn your phone back on.
After you have performed the steps mentioned above, kindly perform a soft reset on your device.
To perform a soft reset, please follow the steps below. Please note that this will restore your phone's settings and will not delete any data.
 1. Go to your phone's main screen and press *#7780#.

  • E52 internal GPS fix problem only with OVI Maps

    Hi all,
I read many many E52 phones suffer Internal GPS fix problems.
I don't beleve this is an hardware problem, but only a software bug.
    My experiments say this:
    1) Start phone, start Ovi Maps -> No lock at all. (only 1 blinking line in bottom left corner)
    2) Start phone, start McGuider (Sygic) navigator -> E52 locks quite immedeately. (in the same place!!)
    3) After GPS is locked, start Ovi Maps again. Now also Maps works great!
    4) Also the gps built-in application under Menu->Applications->GPS->GPS Data has the same behaviour as Ovi Maps.
Anyone can try and report this or similar experience?
    Thank you!

    Thank you for the response.
I'm sure the fix is faster if i use A-GPS, but i i have to pay for data connection.
And, above all, Sygic works perfectly WITHOUT A-GPS, so why Ovi Maps does not?
Yes, you have to pay, but the connection takes about 20sec. About Sygic you're right I noticed that too. It locks pretty fast.

  • My Droid Ultra cannot get a GPS fix nor a 4G signal

For the past couple of months my Droid Ultra cannot get a GPS fix or a 4G LTE signal. I've tried the following:
    1. Downloaded and ran GPS Status to attempt to get a fix and clear the GPS data.
    2. Start up in Safe Mode.
    3. Check for Software Updates.
    4. Re-seated SIM card.
Before I'm forced to do a full factory reset (not even sure that will fix it), is there anything else I can do to see how to get either or both of these functions working again? Thanks!

Thanks for the swift reply Ruth!
I don't recall any major changes a couple of months ago.
I checked Network Mode and it was set to "Global". I switched it over to LTE/CDMA but still only get 3G.
The GPS issue seems to affect all apps that use it. I initially noticed the problem using the navigation tool on Maps (by Google). I've also been able to get a fix using Waze, GPS Test and GPS Status & Toolbox.
In Settings>Location I have set to ON and the following
    E911 Only
    Mode: High accuracy
    Location Services: Google Location Reporting

  • TS1398 I am connected to my wi-fi and have full signal but im not connecting online, help please

Connected to Talk Talk wi-fi with full signal but not connecting to internet, then my connection to wi-fi goes and I try to connect again which it does but still can't load to internet, help please

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • I have a signal but can not connect to internet.

Ok, I have an Ibook clamshell and an airport Graphite. The Ibook picks up a signal but when I go to Safari or Internet Explorer I get a message saying the server can not be found. Help, please?

In the opening screen of AirPort Admin Utility, check the firmware version of your Graphite base station. It should show up as "Description: Base Station Vx" where x is the firmware version. If it is earlier than 3.84, download updated firmware from this page and install it.
I found the user guide for your modem on Arris's Web site. It prompts me to suggest the following additional things:
    1. Although the user guide says to use a cross-over Ethernet cable for connection to a hub or home router (as opposed to the supplied cable, presumably a straight-through Ethernet cable, for direct connection to a computer), I believe that the Graphite acts like a computer in this regard instead of like a router. In other words, the Graphite connects to a modem, hub or router using a straight-through cable, but the Graphite would need a cross-over cable to connect to a computer. Try using a straight-through cable, if you haven't already.
    2. Try pushing the Reset button on the back of the modem. Use a pointed, non-metallic object to press the button. I recommend doing this while the Graphite and both computers are powered off, then start up the Graphite first, before the computers.
    3. This type of modem evidently does not itself serve as a router. It has connections for two computers (one via USB, one via Ethernet), but your ability to get two Internet connections through it depends on whether your Internet service provider is willing to supply two IP addresses. (If you try resetting the modem with the pc off, as in paragraph 2 above, and the Graphite acquires a working IP address, enabling the iBook to access the Internet, but the pc then can't, that would indicate that you can receive only one connection at a time.) I suspect that this is, in fact, your problem, unless your cable provider has said that you could connect two computers to the Internet with this modem.
It would be possible to share a single Internet connection, if the pc has either wireless or Ethernet capability. If it has wireless, you could simply disconnect the pc's USB connection to the modem and have it join the Graphite's wireless network. If it has Ethernet, you might be able to connect it to the modem's Ethernet port along with the Graphite, using an Ethernet hub, but this is difficult and uncertain, as well as less secure. If the pc can handle Ethernet, you'd be better off getting a newer and better wireless base station that has 2 or more Ethernet ports, or, alternatively, a router to be inserted between the modem and both the pc and the Graphite. In any case, a base station that can use WPA or WPA2 wireless encryption would be a great improvement, as the quite insecure WEP protocol is the best the Graphite can handle.

I have a wifi signal but says it cannot connect to server

What are you looking for on the server?
What application on the iPad are you using to connect to the server?
In many cases, you will need additional applications.

  • GPS Fix problem

    Hi all,
I'm a developer for IGN France, I develop an app in Qt which uses Location API.
I really don't understand the GPS on the 5800 XpressMusic.
I explain, when I'm using the GPS, the first fix takes several time (10 to 20min), for the first fix, I know that's normal.
But if I turn off the GPS for 20min, the next fix take 10 to 20 min but not everytime...
And that happen with a clear sky, without any cloud...
All is done without the A-GPS activated because my app will be used in some place that you can't use A-GPS.
So why,for the second fix, it takes so long sometime  and sometime it's very fast ?
Is there a config file which store some informations like others devices ?
Or all my customer must use A-GPS everytime they need the location ?
    Thank for reply.

When the phone has a clear satellite signal it starts caching ephemeris data. This information will speed up future GPS locks, but the data expires relatively quickly (hence the name).

  • I have wireless signal, but no internet Connection

I have a wireless router, and an iBook G4, and so does my husband. I get wireless signal and internet, however my husband's ibook only get wireless signal and not internet. He has always had problems with the internet signal on his wireless. Please help!!
    Thanks

I would start by reseating the Airport card. Here is directions on how to access the Airport card. The airport card has to be seated correctly to get a good signal and reliable connection. Make sure the connection is pushed in completely.
Here is another link to install the Airport card. Look at how far they have the connector and compare it to yours. That might help.

  • How to fix GarageBand getting MIDI signal but no sound from Software piano?

I can't get GarageBand 2.0.2 to make a Software Grand Piano respond to my Fatar Studio 90 MIDI keyboard which is connected by an M-Audio MidiSport UNO USB-to-MIDI interface that is plugged directly into the computer, not through a hub. I installed the M-Audio OS X USB MIDI Driver from the CD, plugged in the UNO, which lit up as expected. One available MIDI input is acknowledged by the window splashed on the screen. The MIDI Status Light (to the left of the tempo in the GarageBand display) lights up most of the time I press keys on the keyboard, once on the press, once on the release. Occasionally I get a long-lasting very low note (15 Hz?) followed by a single muffled piano note. (It sounds possessed.) Nothing more. Does anyone know what I'm missing? It seems that there is no step assigning the Grand Piano track to the one MIDI input, and it seems to me that GarageBand acts like it doesn't know that a key press on the MIDI keyboard is supposed to play a note on the Software Grand Piano. (Can you tell I'm a Windows guy?) (The other piano instruments act the same way.) The screen keyboard (played by the mouse) works fine and sounds great through our amplified speakers. Does anyone have suggestions of what to try next? Thanks for the help.

    Hi,
There seems to have a bug in the way the libraries "Grand Piano On Stage" and "Grand Piano Punchy" are dealing with the midi controller "Sustain Pedal" when they receive continuous data in place of 127 (Pedal down) or 0 (Pedal up).
    (cf. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1747121&tstart=0).
You should delete all the occurences of this midi controller and replace it manually (command-click) the in the "track editor".
I'm also using an old midi keyboard that is generating 0/127 Sustain values to record with these sound libraries in place of my new midi keyboard !
    Fred.

  • I can't get a gps fix after 2 hours of waiting.

It's really sad that just by updating 2 latest fimware(in this case from belle to belle reresh 111.040.1511.c05.01), i haven't been able to get my position through the built in integrated gps. I have tried activating the A- GPS and standing in an open space free from obstructions like trees and tall buildings for thirty minutes to get the first fix .I  have also tried downloading software like legpsdata which shows between 10 - 13 gps satellites in view but no satellites used and also soft resetting (*#7370#) and hard resetting it. I have changed the positioning server to supl.google.com and proritising it but to no avail. This is really frustrating to me because i always enjoyed using the gps feature of this phone, which competes favourably with most stand alone gps available in the market. Please i hope i can get any form of assistance from the community members. Thanks!

    Hi,
I have the same issue with a C7. GPS position search is very low. I'd read several topics in this question, but still did not find solution. I cant find suggested LeGPS, but I installed infogps which is not able to find satelits in 20 mins. I want to use A-GPS, but does not work at all. it looks, cant find network(which works). When I start maps the data sign is blinking (3G) but data traffic remains 0,0 kB. dont know why. I have an older 5230 (I beleive) which is able to position in 3-4 secs inside the house and I can see the increasing data traffic number. When I compared the settings with the 5230 and there I can provide the mobile access point (which network connection to be used) which cannot be setup on the Belle.
    settings:
positioning - positioning methods: Assisted GPS, Integrated GPS, Network Based
positioning server - server settings - supl.nokia.com , only in home network: No
    map settings:
    connection: online
    Network destination: Internet
Can anyone help? is there any workaround how to force A-GPS?

  • Re: GPS connection problem AT100

I have a Tablet AT100-100 , which i just bought. I seem to have trouble connecting with through GPS. I have activated GPS as per the manual instructions but still cannot connect with GPS. I have tried to connect on google maps and could connect via wifi but when i deactivate wifi , i cannot connect through GPS only. Is there anything i can do to activate the GPS or is it a hardware problem?

    Hi toshibakias,
personally I own a AT200 so I may not be a perfect fit for your question.
I am wondering if you confuse GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) with GPS (Global Positioning System) here. GPRS can be used (roughly like WiFi) on some devices to get a connection for transferring data. GPRS is not a feature of the AT100 (or AT200) but of many phones.
But if you mean a GPS "fix" with the term "connection", then I hope you get it to work with the following steps.
    #1
I recommend installing the App "GPS Status" for best transparency. In that app you can see if GPS is basically enabled and a count how many satellites are currently in view (+ reception quality). Additionally you have the possibility to trigger a download of AGPS Data (if a WiFi/Internet connection is in reach) which may speed up the first fix.
    #2
    Get outside.
GPS (mostly) works only under clear sky. Avoid High Buildings which can shield the reception of GPS Satellites. The number of satellites in view in the App "GPS Status" should increase now.
    #3
    Be patient.
Getting the position (=fix) can take several minutes. Especially if the GPS receiver is used for the first time ever or the position has substantially changed since the last use a first fix can take up to 20-30 minutes. Usually it should take around 5 minutes if the GPS reception is good and you maintain a roughly steady position.
If you got the GPS "fix" once, future GPS fixes might be faster. Also the GPS position might (!) be still available when entering a building (close to windows at least).

help! I recently upgraded my iphone to the latest IOS but my GPS seems to have a problem... I am unable to get directions from one point to another ... how do I solve this problem?

If using the built-in Maps app, directions are not available everywhere. Read here:
    http://www.apple.com/ios/feature-availability/#maps-directions
If that's your problem, download the Google Maps app.

Im having this same problem an my phone is about 3 weeks old. I am not sure about the voice over part though...I have not yet figured out how to work the voice recognition part of the phone...I am such a newbie with this phone. I did the power off/on suggestion, several times. I tried leaving it off for 10 minutes. Tried to reset with the power on/off and home button pressed at the same time. Charged battery. Still makes no difference. You cannot scroll any direction. Have to double click to open apps. Have to double click letters when texting or emailing in order to get the letter in the text box. Can scroll through app choices, have to click on the line with the dots in it and move from page to page. Can't access the settings - > general - > accessibility - because it won't allow me to scroll down to "general".

  • 5230 paired with Jentro BT-GPS-8-Bluetooth, have l...

I am using the Nokia Ovi Navigation a lot, in fact I used it for 3 weeks in the United States in direct comparion with Garmin (latest map software), and the Nokia cme out top! Now to reduce the time to satellite fix, I invested in a Jentro BT-GPS-8-Bluetooth which very quickly finds a satellite fix. My problem now is that when I used only the integrated GPS, I got very clear and precise spoken instructions, but now when using the external GPS receiver I do not get the spoken instructions. All I did was alter the setting for the GPS source, I did not change the setting for spoken instructions, in fact when I check the settings it still says that I want the spoken instructions with street names.
Please, help me, because I really need both features, namely a fast satellite fix and spoken instructions with street names.

Hi, I had the same problems with my iPhone (2.01) and my TomTom 730T (8.010). I tried it several times, finally it worked. Maybe it really helped to delete the other phones from the TomTom and to turn on/off Bluetooth during theses procedures several times. The amazing thing was that 700 contact numbers synced within not even 10sec! My old SonyErcisson K750 takes years for only 30.
