  • Poor sound quality on some iTunes songs

Downloaded some songs from iTunes and realized a really poor sound quality on some files.
The worst example is "Precious" from "Depeche Mode" (Album version). It seems to me that the AAC file is encoded at a much too high level, so its overdriven and distorted.
If i burn the song to CD and than analyze the track in WaveLab it is obvious that the song was encoded with a level more than 6dB over the usual level and i can see a lot of clippings.
Downloaded another song of another band that i allready have on CD, just to compare... and this song was much better. Even this was 3dB over the original CD level (and the song on CD had a peak level reserve of only 0.1dB), but while listening that song i heared no negative effects...
So from my point of view iTunes is not really an acceptable offer if i can't rely on a minimum sound quality of the songs that i pay for!
    So, the question is:
Is this normal or is the "Depeche Mode" album only one rare bad example???

    Yes, of cause, tried all.
EQ off, or EQ with all sliders a little below 0dB.
With my tests i saw no effect of the EQ to the CD burning quality.
Only if i change the CD burning options (in german "Lautstärke anpassen", something like "adapt volume" or so), than i get a CD that has the same bad quality, only at a lower volume.
The same distorted and overdriven sound with clippings at a lower level (peak -12dB).
What if it's really a bad file?
    Do they fix such files?
Will i have a chance to download it again? (without paying another time?)

  • External speaker audio quality

I find that the audio quality from the external speaker on my Touch is very poor.
I don't have to turn the volume up very much before the sound starts to become distorted. Anything close to half of the full volume or higher, the distortion is so bad it's not even worth listening to.
This problem is most noticeable when using the external speaker to listen to music. I don't notice it when listening to audio from a video on YouTube.
I realize that this speaker must be extremely small and that the audio won't be the greatest but, just wondering if this is a common characteristic or if it's a problem with my unit.

It's still better than nothing. It beats having to dig out the headphones or speakers when you don't have it plugged in.

  • Itune 6 sound quality problem

I just downloaded itune 6 and the sound quality is horrible - distorted and fuzzy sound.
I thought it was my speaker so I listened through quicktime and the quicktime played alright.
Any idea? did I do something wrong?
    my computer's G4 powerbook / panther.
please help me if you have any solution.

Hi, i think i've got the same problem as you, the music played in iTunes 6 has a hiss whenever there's something being played; whether it's mp3 or CD. if i play the same file in Windows Media Player, it's perfectly fine there.
I was using iTunes 4.9 before upgrading to 6, and everything was fine then. I really hope this gets fixed soon, i'm using iTunes everyday at work.
If Apple's reading this, please solve this quick! <=(

  • Archlinux + wine + spotify sound quality problems

    Hi,
have installed Spotify on my Archlinux box using Wine. But I am not able to get the same sound quality as in Windows XP. Have tried all kinds of settings in winecfg. Anybody have the same problem or know how to fix this?

    Hi,
yes I tried the settings they suggested. But with emulated the music plays good for some seconds and then it starts jumping for some seconds. It does this all the time.
When I try to run Full it works fine no jumping but instead it has some kind of distorted sound, as being in a metal jar.
I have the possibility to chose ALSA and OSS in winecfg. The sound quality seems to be a bit better if I use OSS. But not as good as in windows.
    Any more ideas?

Try to change your default sound API to OSSv4, it has better sound... way better, because you're not actually using OSS, but instead ALSA's OSS emulation...

  • Wireless speaker sound quality

I've got a macbook air late 2010. Recently i've bought the bose soundlink mobile speaker to listen music around my home. White the speaker sounds good with other device (a pc with window 7 for example) when the device is connected with the Air the sound is perfect for a limited time (about 30 minutes) so it began to be a lot of noise a full of craks. I then stop itunes a then again play and the sound turn perfect. I've found somewhere that i need to set a special terminal command to increase a parameter. I've done it but the issue remain. Is there any solution for this issue? thank you very much for any help

You may want to check to see if your laptop has bluetooth and get yourself some bluetooth speakers.
But I don't think any that I am aware of offer what you want for 2 and 3. But the jawbone jambox has great sound.
I like things that go beep

  • Sound Quality Problem when importing

I am importing my CD collection to my IPOD Classic but a small number of CDs are importing with poor sound quality that sounds like interference.  Anybody know what then problem is and how to fix it?
The CDs are from the late 80s to early 2000s but age of the CD does not appear to be the problem.
    Thanks

How does the quality sound lower?
What is your sample frequency? (of the recorded files)
Have you set the recording bitdepth to 24?

  • Speaker sound quality

Just wondering if it is normal for the quality of the speaker sound to start to suck when the song your playing has a lot of sound going on at one time at max speaker volume.

so I guess playing music on max volume through the speakers isnt a good idea?
Even so, even with it at half volume the distortion is still there, is this because the speakers werent really designed to play music?
Can it permanently damage the phone?

  • External speaker sound jack not working?

Altec Lansing VS2421. Not a bad little 2:1 speaker set up for the money. They work fine on my G5 Quad, but not on the iMac. I get that 'interference noise' when I plug the speaker connector into the sound jack. But no music, nada, niet, zilch, non.
This iMac has been plagued by all sorts of problems recently and this is the most recent one to give me a headache. Does anyone have any ideas, what might be causing it?

    Miriam,
Thank you for the link. Really useful information. However, I'm not certain, but think my problem isn't connected with ground loops. It's more basic than that.
If I mute the internal speaker of the iMac, whilst leaving the External speakers on, there is no sound at all. If I twist the external audio jack around in it's socket on the Mac, I get feedback and what I think is AC hum. But no audio signal. And if I switch the internal speakers on, I get a normal audio signal.

  • New Sound Quality Problems with Flash and Macintosh

First I noticed the the Flash 8 Video Encoder exported low
low quality sound, as if pass through some bit-crusher folder,
happened on several macs in the office. Finally, I try it on
Windows XP, and no sound problems with FLV export (and it was
exporting videos 400% faster than macs).
Now, both inside Flash Ap itself, and worse in the SWF,
    stream sounds are low-quality, with 16bit 44k pristine-sounding
    source files.
If anyone has answers (I've been searching for a couple days
    now) please write [email protected]

Hi guys - last time I looked no one had posed a similar

  • T400 External Speaker Sound Issues

    Hello,
I recently purchased a used ThinkPad T400 and I am having some problems with the sound when using external speakers. Whenever using external speakers, everything has a bizarre underwater/reverb sound. This is a very frustrating issue as I have tried everything I can think of and searched for hours for similar problems to no avail.  The only thing I can think of is that it is somehow stuck in headphone mode?
Any help would be much appreciated.

The problem has been solved. Oddly enough, I had not one, but TWO brand new cables that were not working properly.

  • No external speaker sound with mac-mini running bootcamp win7 64

    Hi,
I am unable to get external sound working with mac mini (september 2011) running windows 7 64 on bootcamp 4 (Lion). Drivers appear OK in device manager. Running seperate driver exe from bootcamp library results in a message that the best driver is working. Any suggestions? How do I know which audio driver I need? Where, specifically, can I download the correct driver? I have seen a reference to cirrus logig 4206B driver working but I can find no such driver anywhere. I can't figure out how to search for drivers on cirrus web site. Please help.
    Thanks,
    b

Ok, the solution in my case was to go back to MacOS, run the BootCamp assistant again, and have it re-download all the Windows drivers.  Back in Windows 7, uninstall BootCamp, then reinstall.  Now all the drivers work.
Apple has apparently updated/fixed their 64 bit drivers since I last tried to make it go.  I would have thought that Apple Software Update (on Windows) or Windows Update would have picked up the newer drivers, but they didn't.

  • IM3 speaker sound quality

    Hi,
Anyone using the IM3 speaker? How do they sound for listening jazz or classical music? I heard they have lost of bass, is it too much for such music style? Mostly speaker makers are doing speaker for dance music lover, so it is to be care of...
I like the features of the IM3: remote, recharge iPod, small and portable. Makes it a winner o the sound is good!!
Also, I think those have a stereo input jack, does it sound better than the internal powerbook 12" speakers? If yes, that could be a 2 for 1 deal.
    Thanks

I listened to many speakers, my primary consideration was the portability. I take them backpacking with my kids, as well as fishing and other activities. I had read that they only work if you are near them, but they serve my purposes extremely well. The remote is awesome, and although I don't have a powerbook, they beat my laptop's sound system hands down!
I have listened to a bit of Jazz, Classical and most every genre of music, and couldn't be happier with the sound for the price. I thought they sounded much better than the Bose system, (price aside) although the Creatures were probably better sounding over all, they aren't portable, and don't have the remote.
I'm not convinced they are heavy on the Bass even though they say there is a bass boost function. My ears tell me they are lighter on the mids and highs more than heavy on the bass. I typically set my equalizer to increase mids and highs and leave the lows alone.

I have to agree with sapporobaby here. The moral to this story is not to buy an expensive device outside of the country in which you live. I have been thinking of getting a phone from mobicity. Only problem all their phones come from hong kong and are not covered by warranty in Australia. If I am spending $800 plus on a device I want warranty cover in the country that I live. End of story. So do not blame Nokia. If you got your phone from HK that is now your problem. So why should Nokia in Australia repair a phone you bought in HK. Don't think you would get much joy from the consumer affairs people in Australia either.
Well we started off the new year agreeing. There is hope for anything now. Are you guys listening over in Palestine and Israel?
Anyway, nothing is covered internationally now. Maybe one or two things but most electronics aren't, even if you can prove your product is authentic. I have a registered Nikon camera that was purchased in Kuwait. Nikon USA found the product code from my camera but told me if it needs repair, I will have to either: 1. Board a plane to take it back to Kuwait, or 2. Send it to a local repair shop for them to send it to Kuwait where I will pay the shipping but get the warranty work for free, or 3. arrange to ship it myself with me still picking up some part of the tab. So, once again, go buy something else and get over it.
