5320 XM firmware 4.13 report
Hello, I would like to report a feedback for the 4.13 version of the 5320 firmware.
I noticed that the option "Nothing" for the screen saver was deleted (but if I set the screen saver to last for 30 second, it's quite useless to display the time for just 30 secs).
Moreover, I notice an error: the button over the text "XpressMusic", above the phone, after being set and pressed, return you to the page in which you can set his function, and not to the function selected.
Hope the next release will solve this.
Bye bye!
Please define features of firmware v5.16 and difference between firmware v4.13 and v5.16
Thanks

Firmware Issues / BUG Report for WRT54GS v1.1
Hi all,
Router = WRT54GS (version 1.1 as printed on the bottom of the router)
My current firmware (most up to date) = v 4.71.4
I have found a few issues when using the following:
QoS related issues:
When using QoS, if users wish to disble it tempermentally (or change any other option), then re-enable it, any wireless device cannot access the LAN or WAN. This is regardless of static or DHCP IP. In order to fix this the user must reset the wireless security after re-enabling the QoS (disable the wireless security, save settings, set the security options again, and save settings)
If a user changes the routers IP to something other than the default when using QoS wireless devices are unable to connect using either static or dynamic IP.
Other issues I have encountered:
When setting wireless security up I chose WPA2-Personal (TKIP+AES). I also use MAC filter as well and only allow those that I specify to connect to the router. This works no problem. My problem is that if I disable SSID broadcasting my wireless devices will not connect regardless of static or dynamic IP. I have made sure there is sufficient strengh of the network (by sitting only a few feet from the router with my laptop to test this).
How do I report these issues? Will they be addressed in the next future release of firmware?
Thanks,
PeteHi, just to let you know. Reset, then re-configured and it is still having the issues as I have posted above. So deffiantly a router firmware issue I would say.
New Firmware version upgraded to: v4.70.8

N78 firmware re-instal reports 'hardware error'
Hi there!
I looked for an update to my N78 (RM-235) firmware (12.0.46) today because the application installer in the phone reported failed installation of Joikuspot software.
NSU told me I had the latest available firmware, but could reinstal if I wanted - so I proceeded to do just that to see if it helped...
During the reflashing via USB cable there were messages at two points stating there had been a "problem with the device hardware - it might not work properly" -- or words to that effect.
Is this anything I should worry about? Maybe send the phone (1 month old) back to the carier (Virgin Mobile Australia)?
It seems to be working alright after the firmware installation, but you never know...
Cheers,
LMH
NB: the joikuspot software again failed to install after the reflashThere are a lot of different opinions about partitioning in Mac OS X and you can read some of them here:
http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7592_102-0.html?forumID=25&threadID=44865&messageID= 530144
and here
http://forums.appleinsider.com/archive/index.php/t-8096.html
My opinion is that partitions cam be useful when:
1. the OS can't manage big volumes (as it was in the past)
2. the OS can't optimize the space on big volumes
3. want to install 2 or more separate OSes
4. organization (like in your case).
Now, OS X filesystem (HFS+) is robust and reliable and OS X is a multitasking system that parallelizes I/O operations like reading or writing a disk.
So if you have 2 separate hard disk the system can parallelize the operations (i.e. reading from one and writing into another one) but if you have 2 partitions the system (or better the disk subsystem) have to jump back and forth among the partitions.
About the linking schema of the Audio interfaces and the FW hard disks it can change: I connect my FW disk to the MOTU and the MOTU to the mac while a friend of mine have to put the disk before of his Presonus.
Thanks for the beer!
cheers

Nokia 5320 XM firmware bugs concerning date and al...
Hello!
Although already having twice sent in my Nokia 5320 XpressMusic for repair, I'm still suffering from severe firmware bugs concerning date and alarm of the device. Here some information on when and how the bugs are showing themselves:
Settings: A different weekly alarm is programmed for each day of the week. The phone is being switched off for the night.
The programmed alarm is being run correctly by the phone. The phone is being switched on after having disabled the alarm.
Some time later the date changes to four or five days in the future. Moreover the phone starts to ring for the day the date has changed to. Often it's not ringing at the time that has been programmed for that day, even though pretending to do so.
Example:
9:45 on Sunday: phone is correctly ringing at the programmed time.
10:15 on Sunday: phone is incorrectly ringing again pretending it was Friday 7:50
the clock remains unchanged, however the date has changed automatically for five days
Linked to this error, there seem to exist similar problems with date and snooze-function already mentioned on these forums:
/discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&message.id=145323
/discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&message.id=144139
/discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&message.id=143893
As I mentioned above, I already sent my phone in twice, however I always got it back with the mention: repaired on guarantee. To me, this seems rather disgraceful for Nokia. I sincerely hope, that, if necessary with the pressure of other users being concerned as well, we arrive to get a phone that is really working as one could await it from the leader in mobile phone production!
I hope we will be informed soon about when there will be a firmware update!
Thanks for your replies!
Regards,
LorenzHave the same problem, as I already mentioned in my posts too. But unfortunatly no reply from Nokia either. Seems they really don't care about it. It would be at least apropriate, that they at least announce time of new firmware and note if they will fix this problem with it.
But no replay from them I contacted local nokia dealer in Slovenia, but they just say they can not help. And that we must wait for new firmware.
Now I wonder, when it should came out ?! I am sick of this trouble with my phone. and as you said, I am also turning off my phone since I want my battery to last longer. so this bug must be fixed.
Nokia team, anyone?!?!? -

Lock Code request after firmware update on E71
After I updated successful (message was displayed by software updater) my phone, it makes a restart.
And asked for the "Lock Code". I never used the lock code function and I never changed it before.
The default Lock Code "12345" mentioned within the documentation is not working.
Re-installation of the firmware is not working as I am unable to reinstall "PC Suite Support" due to the fact that I am not able to confirm the installation on my phone. I went to the Nokia shop and they told me they have to sent the cell phone in for repair and this can takes up to four weeks. This is totally unacceptable. Until today I was I fan of Nokia phones but this has changed dramatically.Hi
I also experienced the same problem. Phone was working perfectly prior to Firmware Update.
I had never used or changed the lock code. Initially I thought everything was fine because the
Firmware Update was reported to have been a success.
I then went through the process of selecting language (English) and setting date and time.
However, after doing all this I was then asked for a Lock Code.
I was a little bemused but tried the default '12345'. This did not work.
I tried all the other usual defaults; '0000', '1111', '1234' etc, still no joy.
After a little swearing I decided to ring the Nokia help line. After explaining the problem I was advised to go to my nearest Care Centre. I was also told that if the cause of my problem was as a result of the 'faulty' firmware update then they should do it free of charge.
Off to the Care Centre then (30 mile round trip)!!!! They rigged it up to their 'kit' and confirmed that
the Lock Code had not been changed and was still set to '12345'. They could not access the phone
either. They now have my phone and are going to try and sort it and if they cannot sort it will be
sending off to Nokia. This should then be sorted under warranty (although I would argue the cause
of the problem is a glitch in the Firmware Update and not a fault with the phone).
Let's hope that when I get the phone back it will all be hunky dory!!!
It's also worth noting that even though I could not access the phone directly by using its own keys
I could use all the functions when rigged up to my computer through Nokia PC Suite. I could access
all contacts, messages, calendar etc. I was also able to send and receive SMS. If the phone was
locked then surely I shouldn't have been able to do this????
Hope the above sheds some light on your problem. Just be sure that you are not fobbed off by
either the help line or the 'techies' in the shop. At the end of the day if you have not messed about
with the lock code before the firmware update you should be able to get it sorted free of charge if
the phone is still under warranty. GOOD LUCK!!!! -

Failure during Firmware for MacBook update?
I just got my Macbook back from Apple today after sending it in to have the wristpad bezel and heatsink replaced. When I got on the machine today the first thing I did was run software update. I downloaded the new firmware installer, and let it do its thing, after reading the instructions thoroughly (of course). As soon as it rebooted to install firmware, the system froze after startup at a grey screen, no status bar and no spinning wheel. I let it sit like that for approx. 45 mins, then shut it down. I then tried to start it back up, but it just sits at that grey screen. If I do a single or double PRAM reset, I can get in, but as soon as I reboot, same thing occurs. I did do a 4 bell PRAM reset at first, but as of now I am stumped. The one thing that puzzled me the most was after the failure and PRAM reset, I got a message saying that the "Firmware was successfully updated!" And if I manually DL and run installer on Firmware update, installer reports back that this machine does not need to be updated......
MACHINE INFO:
Macbook 1.83 Intel Core Duo/ 512MB DDR/OSX 10.4.7
ANY IDEAS?? I pray that this is not an isolated issue, and that I didn't eff this machine.
Kind Regards....
Macbook Mac OS X (10.4.7) 1.83 Intel Core Duo/ 512mb...because the SMC update is not required for the 17" or the new 15" MBPs - the update was already applied at the factory.

Thank you for getting back to me - much appreciated.
This is why I think it's a bug. Time is set correctly as well as the time zone, but the system still won't transition from night to day. Perhaps you can duplicate my scenario in your enviornment -I have a unique customer requirement for this feature which may be triggering this issue (but nevertheless I still feel it's a bug becuase it's not behaving as expected) The customer needs to be 'day' 24x7 except for Thursdays between 8:30am-4:30pm where this is 'night'. In order to test this configuration functionality I set the current day (in this case it was Saturday 9/16) to be 'night'. What I found that it did indeed set the mode to 'night' - however when I reverted back to the desired schedule (turned Saturday back to 'day' the night mode wouldn't switch back, even though I set back Saturday to be 'day'. If I disabled night/day mode it would go back to day, but when I put it back to the day/nigh schedule (with the desired schedule) - it would go back to 'night' mode incorrectly as Saturday was scheduled as 'day'. I then enabled the force night button on one of the phones which (correct me if I'm wrong) should allow me to toggle the modes. In corresponding with the mode, the phone button indicated amber, but when I pressed it it would turn green, but the Status -> Devices would still show that 'night' mode was still on. I also confirmed that it wasn't an error in display, when it was in 'night' mode it would behave as such with the corresponding call routing rules in place.
I hope this makes sense - I would welcome you to take a look at the system but I need to arrange this with my customer.
Regards,
Ed Tsai -

[SOLVED] Thinkpad T430 brightness keys broken after firmware upgrade
Hi.
I've upgraded the firmware on my Thinkpad to version 2.51. Since that I'm unable to change the display brightness via the Fn-Keys on the keyboard. What still works is writing values to /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness but of course that's not how it should be.
Here's some dmesg output:
[ 7.638814] thinkpad_acpi: ThinkPad ACPI Extras v0.24
[ 7.638816] thinkpad_acpi: http://ibm-acpi.sf.net/
[ 7.638817] thinkpad_acpi: ThinkPad BIOS G1ET91WW (2.51 ), EC unknown
[ 7.638818] thinkpad_acpi: Lenovo ThinkPad T430, model 2349D15
[ 7.639440] thinkpad_acpi: detected a 8-level brightness capable ThinkPad
[ 7.639547] thinkpad_acpi: radio switch found; radios are enabled
[ 7.639558] thinkpad_acpi: This ThinkPad has standard ACPI backlight brightness control, supported by the ACPI video driver
[ 7.639559] thinkpad_acpi: Disabling thinkpad-acpi brightness events by default...
[ 7.640708] thinkpad_acpi: rfkill switch tpacpi_bluetooth_sw: radio is unblocked
[ 7.641012] thinkpad_acpi: Standard ACPI backlight interface available, not loading native one
[ 7.641156] thinkpad_acpi: Console audio control enabled, mode: monitor (read only)
Any idea why it's broken and how it can be fixed?
Thanks,
Julian
Last edited by julian24 (2013-03-21 22:06:20)Awesome, the acpi_backlight=vendor kernel command line parameter actually fixed it.
Does anybody know what exactly has changed and why this in necessary now?
Update: If you do this, you'll get error messages like this in your log/dmesg every time you press a brightness key:
kernel: thinkpad_acpi: unknown possible thermal alarm or keyboard event received
kernel: thinkpad_acpi: unhandled HKEY event 0x6050
kernel: thinkpad_acpi: please report the conditions when this event happened to [email protected]
The kernel command line parameter acpi_osi="!Windows 2012" also works and seems to be the better way to fix this.
Bugreport at kernel.org: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51231
tl;dr: Firmware update introduced 101 brightness levels even though the hardware only supports 16 but Windows 8 requires this. Reducing or increasing the brightness by one doesn't change anything at all so the firmware will still report the old value as the new brightness thus it'll never actually change the brightness. But if you explicitly tell the firmware that you're not Windows 8, it will only report 16 brightness levels and everything works fine. Lenovo, seriously?

How to for HP CP1525nw Apple AirPrint and Netgear WNDR3700 router
How to setup AirPrint on an iPhone & iPad with a HP CP1525nw and Netgear WNDR3700 router
Date written: April 17, 2011
I did this twice. It took 2 days the first time and 3 hours the second time.
Equipment used:
iPhone 4 on AT&T
iPad 2 on Verizon
HP LaserJet CP1525nw color laser
Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router WNR3700 v2
Abstract: Upgrade Apple products software, upgrade router firmware, upgrade HP Printer firmware and installer. In that order. Reboot a lot. Test as you go.
APPLE - Upgrade iTunes to the latest version 10.2.1.1 Released around mid April, 2011.
This will Upgrade iPhone 4 to version 4.3.2 (AT&T) Check in Settings under About.
This will Upgrade iPad 2 to version 4.3.2 (Verizon) Check in Settings under About.
NETGEAR - Upgrade the Netgear 3700 router from version 1.0.0.6 to version 1.0.0.8 using the built in webpage to check for updates. The router will download and install the updates. This will also update the built in Web setup GUI from 1.0.0.56 to 1.0.0.67. Power off and on the router. To see your version, check Status under Maintenance
Now is a good time to setup Wireless security in the router. Set to WPA PSK (TKIP) + WPA2-PSK (AES). Uncheck Enable Wireless Isolation.
Enter a password for both bands 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz, I used the same for both. (the iPad can use the 5 GHz WiFi band but not for printing {?} so use 2.4 GHz when you print.) You should give them different SSID names, like NETHOME and NETHOME-5. These will show up on your wireless devices (like the iPad but not iPhone)
Make sure your computer, iPhone and iPad can connect to the internet before you go on.
HP PRINTER – Go to HP’s website and down load the latest Installer and firmware for the CP1525nw.
Printer webpage
This is the webpage but you can just search for CP1525nw at the HP website.
Select your Operating System, such as Win 7 32 bit. And look at the list of downloads that appear below. Under Drivers (2), you want to download the HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver. It says it is version 2.0 The Installer you will use is version 3.0.3.5253 as you will see. The Installer on the CD is much older (1.4).
Now under Firmware (1) download the newest firmware utility for the printer. HP LaserJet Firmware Update Utility. The file name is CP1525_Series_FW_Update-20101125.exe [1/1, 6.87M]
Note the date is 20101125. My Printer had 20100430. These are the firmware version numbers.
So 2 programs from HP. One is the Installer and the other is the Firmware Updater. You can just click on the HP Full Feature Installer to run it. No CD needed anymore. You have to get the printer working on the USB port next, and then you can update the firmware in the printer.
You should uninstall any old drivers if it asks you. You are going to uninstall and reinstall 2 or more times. Uninstall old stuff, install new USB drivers from the new download, uninstall USB drivers, and install Wireless drivers. But first get the USB working and printing. Print Config from the printer control menu to see your firmware version…. Reports/Config Report. Look at Firmware Date.
Now you can double click the 2nd HP program to upgrade the Printer firmware. The file is called CP1525_Series_FW_Update-20101125.exe This will upgrade the firmware over the USB port. When it is done you will get a yellow Happy Face. You can print Config Report from the printer controls to see the firmware version… 20101125.
Power off/on Printer. Turn off cell phones, go into Airplane mode on the iPhone and iPad. You can turn on the iPhone and iPad WiFi but leave the 3G phone stuff off. This seems to be important, I think some of the “not found” problems are RF interference with the WiFi.
Run HP Installer again. Uninstall the USB driver and then run it again to install the printer as a Wireless Device. You will need to pick the router and enter the password so the printer can log on to the router.
Once you reboot the printer, check for the blue light on the front. Make sure the Wireless is turned on in the Printer Wireless settings.
Your iPad and iPhone will go through the Router and back out to the Printer to print. Uninstall Print n Share, Print Pro and other printing helpers. (for now) Try printing now. It doesn’t work with Notes, so try printing in Safari with the BoxArrow icon.
The first time you print, you should see the Printer in list, but I had to get out of the app and get back in to Print the first time. After that is works with the CP1525nw without picking the printer again. You will see a big print button.
We so excited…. AirPrint works. (Needs some printer settings…landscape?)
Disclaimer – I don’t work for Apple, HP, Netgear, AT&T or Verizon. I work for free… I would be willing to beta test for them, they need help.My question is if its possible for the N devices to still use N network while the G devices not demoting the whole wireless network to G?
Yes. To do so, you would need to connect the Netgear to the new 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) by Ethernet, and then, reconfigure it as a bridge (disable both its NAT & DHCP functions).
In this configuration, the AEBSn & AXn can provide the 802.11n network and the Netgear can provide the 802.11g network. -

I have been through here and seem to think you guys know more than the apple techs. Please help and thank you so much for not just this but all the answered questions out there...it helps normal people from getting screwed.Hi,
Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window select your *Home* folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the *Library* folder, then the *Caches* folder, then the *com.apple.Safari folder*.
Move the cache.db file from the *com.apple.Safari* folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari.
And... help at this link for when you see the flashing question mark when you boot your Mac.
