5508 WLC with LAG enabled
I enabled Lag on a 5508 controller. Now all the port numbers say 13. I thought they were supposed to be 29. Does this mean LAG isn't configured corecctly? Also how do you test to see that the LAG group is working correctly between the 6509 and WLC?
I'm the 5508 the lag port is 13 in the 4402 it shows as 29. The easiest way to test the lag is to shut down a port on the switch and make sure the traffic continues to flow

The WLC in LAG mode uses the protocol LACP? How can configure them switch HP?
Thanks.

3 seperate DC ... one per site..
I followed everything accoriding to this guide

I am trying to keep everything simple and geting working first.. after doing this.. looks like the message from event view is success I got 2 events int he log.. 1. Network policy server granded access to a user. 2.Network Policy server granted full acess to a user because of the host met the defined health policy.
both sucess...
I am not getting a DHCP address... for some reason ... here is the log... from the debug.. hopefully someone can help me figure this out.. Thanks again for helping and posting your comments.

I am wanting to know about methods of getting a wap to join a wlc. I’ve got 5508 wlc’s and the wap’s are the 1142’s. Are there other methods of getting wap’s to join wlc’s other than option 43 of dhcp? Also, is it possible to get a wap to automatically join a secondary controller if the first one it is trying to join is full?
The wap’s do not seem to be finding the other controller when being added. They just look for one controller only and do not attempt to find the other. Also, on the wap’s, when you enter the primary and secondary controller on the controller admin site. It does not move the wap’s to the other controller as primary. The secondary controller has 11 wap’s to go before full. The primary controller is full

Two 5508 WLCs with 25 AP license HA?
I see that one needs a 50 AP license to run HA. We have two 5508s at our datacenter running about 22 APs. Both controllers have a 25 AP license as this was the old redundant model. Is it not possible to get these controllers into HA because they only have a 25 AP license? This seems like a poor restriction if true as this is a fairly critical building and it would be a shame to double the license just to do HA when it only has 22 APs.
Both of your WLC's right now has an AP license of 25 AP's which is enough for active active. Which means that you have a failover right now. Why is it better... well HA isn't that stable and if one of your WLC's fail, the AP's will failover to the other AP, so you have redundancy right now.
Thanks,
Scott

Cisco WLC with ISE - need to restrict access during non-business hours
Hello,
We have a requirement to turn off our wireless during non-business hours. We have a 5508 WLC with ISE. What is the best way to accomplish this task?
Thank you in advance.
BethAside from Steve's respond, there are several methods of doing this and this will all depend on how complex your network is and how technical you want to do this.
1. As what Steve said, use PI and you can define several schedules when to turn off/on the SSID;
2. If you have corporate access, you can use AD to schedule non-business hours;
3. If you have Cisco PoE switches, you can enable EnergyWise to power off the APs;
4. If you manage your core network, you can enable time-based ACL to disable the default gateway of the dynamic interface which is attached to your SSID.
The most "destructive" method is option #3, because there are chances that your AP won't power up properly, if not power up at all. -
Single 5508 WLC with 8 x 1142 APs.
5508 is running FUS 1.3, software version 7.0.116.0, field recovery image 6.0.182.0.
I need to bring the software version up to at least 7.2.115 to support 2 new 2602 AP i need to install.
Question is; do I install FUS 1.9 then update my controller to 7.6.120 or do I need to do any intermediate steps?
This is my first time upgrading a WLC so I'm fresh and this is a production WLC.
CheersHi Fisher.
Normally It doesn't matter as long as you get it done but make sure that you reboot the WLC before doing the next.
Here is the procedure for FUS upgrade:

License in HA SSO WLC with 7.3 version
Hi,
We are looking at deploying two 5508 in new HA SSO scheme with version 7.3, now our actual scenario is a wlc primary and secondary with 100 ap license each one. In this new scenario the two licenses are added in 200 ?
Thanks,
Marco MuñozHi,
1. for the HA software used, please go for 7.4.110.0 NOT 7.3
2.the license on the secondary will not be added to the primary, the way it works, you buy either an HA-SKU part number WLC, or a normal 5508 WLC with 50 AP base license, you will lose the 100 license on the secondary, and will end up with only 100 AP license.
i would really suggest that you read the following guide for clear information.

Creating new Bridge Group names in Cisco 5508 WLC??
How do we Create new Bridge Group names on Cisco 5508 WLC, with 1552E Access Point??
You create it on the 1552 once the AP joins. One it joins, you will have to choose that AP and then set the AP mode to Bridge and then apply. This will reboot the AP. Once the AP comes back, you will have a MESH tab on that specific AP or any AP that you have set to Bridge mode. You then set the AP role and the bridge group name there. Here is an older MESH deployment guide to follow.

Scott -
Hi all.
I`m configuring new 2504. I updated it to 7.4.100.60 and enabled LAG.
I want to configure interfaces "ap-mgmt" - for AP management.
(Cisco Controller) >config interface create ap-mgmt 69
(Cisco Controller) >config interface address dynamic-interface ap-mgmt 10.50.50.157 255.255.255.224 10.50.50.158
(Cisco Controller) >config interface ap-manager ap-mgmt enable
AP manager interface already exist on port.
So I disable ap-manager on default "management" interfase and enable it on dynamic "ap-mgmt"
(Cisco Controller) >config interface ap-manager management disable
Warning! You have no AP manager on this port.
The controller behavior will be unpredictable.
Are you sure you want to continue? (y/n) y
(Cisco Controller) >config interface ap-manager ap-mgmt enable
After that I have nice sh int summ, I can ping all interfaces, but AP can`t register on the controller "ap-mgmt" (10.50.50.157) interface
(Cisco Controller) >show interface summary

I got this:

So my newly created "ap-mgmt" interface was thrown from LAG and default "management" interface was restored as AP Manager.
After reboot I can`t ping "ap-mgmt" (10.50.50.157), it`s clear why - because it have no physical port associated with it.
My question is why I can`t make other than default "management" interface as AP Manager when LAG enabled?
I try 7.4.100.60, try 7.4.100.0, try two more 2504 results the same.>it's recommended to put both of them into the same VLAN and the same subnetIn documentation I don`t find such recommendation, please share the link.
And it states:
AP-Manager Interface Configuring the AP-manager interface on the same VLAN or IP subnet as the management interface results in optimum access point association. -
WLC 5508 / 3750 Switch LAG Problems
Hello Forum,
for presenting to the client (customer wants to buy any Cisco) I have built up in our laboratory a WLAN environment.
The structure is composed of: - WLC5508 HA cluster (7.6.110.0) - Some AP2602i - C3750E (12.2 (55) SE3)
Which reminds me strange behavior with LAG noticed that I can not explain?
The ports of the WLCs are in the LAG mode each WLC are connected with two cables at the switch. On the switch a port-channel are configured (no LACP = channel-group 8 mode on).
Failure scenario:
Deducted on the primary controller the cable from port 1 (it goes down), the port LED turns from green to orange >>>> no impact on the system, everything remains as it is and the system continues to operate. Deducted on the primary controller the cable from port 2 (goes down), the port LED remains green. HA >>>> the backup controller takes over? Primary controller boots?
That can not be true that here changes the system to the redundant WLC. The system should, as yet just keep working at switch-switch LAG?
Is this a configuration error or a BUG? Upon request, I can gladly send the WLC and Switch configuration.
Best Regards, Alexander WeitzelThe HA kicks in when the primary looses gateway, do a small test, keep a continuous ping to WLC from its gateway as source and break one of the link in the LAG and see if you drop any packet ?

4500 R+E with sup 8 vs. (3850 stack + 5508 WLC)
I got into discussion about upgrade our 3750 stack, 4404 WLC, less than 50 APs (APs spread out over MPLS WAN). I'm planning to get 4510 R+ E with 2 sup 8, but another opinion talked me down to 3850 stack with 5508 WLC. Basically, his argument is 3850 stack can do everything 4500 R+E can do, plus it's not hulky as 4500. My argument is I like unify access since sup 8 built in WLC and we don't have to get 5508. I know there're more 4500 R+E and respect his argument. Does anyone has input on these setup giving pricing is not much different between setup.
Thanks
KevinIn my honest opinion, if you are posted this solution here, you are smelling something is off. I hate to be a bearer of bad news. It is.
We went through the same exercise 2 years ago. We wanted to upgrade our legacy 3750/3750G to 3750X and we found out that if we were to get a stack of four (or more ) 3750X, it is cheaper (much, much cheaper) to get a 4510R+E bundle (with Sup7E included) and associated line cards on top. Just to note, the 3750X and 3850 have the same price. The Sup7E and Sup8E have the same price.
Don't ask me why your consultant wanted you to get 3850. I am refraining myself putting two theories in here. -
Is 1252G AP compatible with 5508 WLC
hi,
I want to know whether 1252G AP can register with 5508 WLC? from the datasheet 5505 support CAPWAP while 1252 is LWAP. Kindly provide the link regarding the compatibility as well.
Regards
Narehhi,
I would also to add that I will be using CAP 1552E (802.11N) outdoor AP with the 1252G AP. Is it possible that both LWAP and CAPWAP AP registers with the same 5508 WLC ?

Cisco ACS 5.5 with 5508 WLC.
Our current environment consists of 5508 WLCs authenticating to ACS 4.2.
I'm in a process of doing a clean build of ACS 5.5 (vmware) to replace the 4.2 installations. I do not want to migrate.
I have basic administration & Lobby Ambassador logins working. I now want to configure Layer 3 web auth for wireless access off Windows Domain accounts. I've found a document that discusses this, step by step, but it's for ACS 4.2 (which I know how to build), but nothing seems handy for ACS 5.5. Can anyone point me in that direction?
Thanks. Are you using plain vanilla 5.0 or have any patches installed?
ACS 5.1 has new TACACS related functionaity including support for custom services and attributes. If these are needed for WLC support yo would need ti upgrade.
There may also have been relevant patch fixes since 5.0 timeframe but I can't find any specific relevant CDETS at this point -
Can't get 1532i to associate to 5508 WLC running 7.6.130.0
Greetings,
I've got 20 or so APs on a 5508 WLC. Most of the APs are 1242, one is 3602. I'm now trying to get a 1532i to associate to the 5508 and it's not happening. This is the first 1532 on this controller.
Also, I got this 1532 AP from a sister site and they had it configured as Autonomous in wgb mode, so I had to do the Autonomous to Unified Conversion. This conversion appeared to go successfully. But now the AP won't associate to my controller.
Thanks
