554 5.4.6 aliasing/forwarding loop broken

A couple of clients of mine have had their attempts to send email to me bounce back with this error. I have a general idea of what the problem is (a conflict between a user's email address and some alias that I can't find) and I'm pretty sure that I'm not going to solve it through the GUI. I admit that my postfix knowledge is limited but I'm reasonably familiar with the terminal app, UNIX and the vi editor. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Stuck in a forwarding loop?

    Hope someone can help, after much searching of the internet over the past few days, I can't seem to solve the following problem:
    I have two mailboxes setup in mail, one for mobileme and the other for my orangemail pop3 account. I want to forward all the mail from the orange account to the mobile me one, so I can receive the messages via push on my iphone. I set up a message rule as follows: "account" is "orangemail (my orange e-mail address)", "message type" is "mail", then actions "forward" to "mobile me address", "stop processing more rules".
    When I do this and send a test message, the forwarding works, but it keeps forwarding the message. At one point I had 10 copies of the message. So I disabled the rule. I've tried other variations of the rules such as deleting the message when it's been forwarded, but it still happens.
    I assume this is some kind of forwarding loop, and would appreciate any advice (it's probably something really obvious!).
    John

    does orangemail have webmail?if it does you can setup email forwarding there.
    Gmail has email forwarding, not sure with other mails. But the point is, you have to set this up on the server side w/c is webmail of orange mail.

  • IPhone 2G restart loop/broken power button

    My original iphone has a broken power button.  Yesterday, out of nowhere, after taking calls, listen/watching podcasts, texting, etc, I get the restart loop.  I waited until the battery died so maybe I could get it restored if I sync it to itunes.  Didn't work.  itunes didn't recognize it and it charged up to looping again.  Any suggestions?  Is this a brick for good?  I preordered the 4S last week; jealousy maybe?

    Usally they will just give you a a brand new iphone 4 assunming you are still in a apple care plan? But i dont think they will give you a iphone 5 even at cost.

  • [SOLVED] Emacs `forward-sentence' broken?

    Hello there,
    at least for me the behaviour of the `forward-sentence' function (normally bound to M-e) in GNU Emacs doesn't work right.
    After pasting the following paragraph to a buffer
    wikipedia wrote:Maximilian Karl Emil "Max" Weber was a German sociologist, philosopher, and political economist whose ideas influenced social theory, social research, and the entire discipline of sociology. Weber is often cited, with Émile Durkheim and Karl Marx, as among the three founding architects of sociology.
    I place the cursor to the beginning of the paragraph, i.e. just before "Maximilian". Then pressing M-e brings the cursor to the end of the paragraph. But the intended behaviour is to bring the cursor to the end of the first sentence, i.e. after the first "sociology", right before "Weber", isn't it? Is this a bug I should report?
    I tried this after starting up emacs by
    $ emacs -Q
    Emacs version 24.3.1

  • Aspire V3-771G Recovery loop/Broken Screen/External Screen VGA

    The problem is 2 things:1: The PC, now loops in "Recovery mode/diagnose-pc"2: Now we can't access BIOS because of External Screen is VGA, but if we close the lid, we will see,only the loop "Recovery..." My friend have used his Laptop with and external HDMI screen for some time,then he noticed that it got more and more virus behaviors, like: acting like its hacked,someone takes over his mouse and so on. So he decided to do Recovery of his pc and then we can make it work in External VGA Mode,but not in HDMI anymore. Reason for not working in HDMI anymore is because of Windows have those drivers maybe? (external mouse and keyboard installed) Tries to start computer on F10 or fn+F10 or F2, (laptop keyboard) and then close the lid.Same on external Keyboard. Anyway suggestion on how to access BIOS with an External VGA screen.Or other suggestions? Zenpotter

    zenpotter,
    Are you trying to use the internal recovery feature or recovery media that was created? If you haven't looked over this article, please do, it discusses how to utilize the recovery process both internally and externally.

  • Forward-Delete broken for iTunes 10.6

    I just downloaded the latest version of iTunes. I've been using the forward-Delete key in my song tags for years, but now it doesn't work - only the backspace key. What gives?

    Same here (10.6.1 (7) and Lion), British English. Really, really annoying.
    Forward Delete works in the Get Info box for me, though - how about you lot?

  • Airport Extreme Simultaneous Dual-Band port forwarding broken if only TCP ports with firmware 7.6.1

    When configuring my Airport Extreme Simultaneous Dual-Band router, port forwarding is broken if you only specify TCP ports to forward. This is with firmware 7.6.1. What happens is that after you hit the Update button, when the router comes back and you open the port forwarding entry, the IP is still there but the port numbers are missing.
    I tried all different port numbers and ranges and nothing would stick if i only specified TCP ports. If i added UDP ports with the TCP ports then it would save them. And if you add a new entry with only UDP it saves them too.
    Now this is with adding a new port forwarding. I already have existing ports being forwarded that only have TCP. They are still working. I believe i added them with a previous version of the firmware.
    Any one else see this issue? Any ideas?
    Maybe i should perform a hard reset and reload a saved config.
    Peace,
    Dan

    I haven't seen the issue but you could just downgrade to an earlier firmware:

  • Can't login to hp eprint: eprint forwards to hpconnected forwards to eprint...

    I can't login to eprint anymore. Which means I can't change my eprint settings, authorized email Adresses, check my printers - I'm simply looked out. So the "service" is funamentaly broken to me.
    The reason? eprint is now hp connected for some reason (probably some marketing people which care more about branding than if the product actually works).
    I am forwared from eprint login to hp connected, wich forwads me to the eprint login to hp connected... it's just an endless loop.
    It seems switzerland was just changed to hp connected a few days ago, but the forums are full of users which experience the same issue already 6 months ago, in september 2013.
    It seems that the english / us page is the only one where all the new forwards are correct, international pages seem to be fundamentaly broken.
    Of course this does not hinder HP to continue the worldwide rollout, instead of fixing the bugs.
    So now it hit me - I am looked out from HP connected, or should I call it HP disconnected?
    What can I do? I tried different browsers and computers with no luck.
    And - DO YOU EVER TEST? And do you do on your international pages or just the us one? It's not the first time I had issues with the HP page which constantly forwards to broken links and dead-ends, well, wich is not to surprising consindering what a mess of hundreds of systems and servers patched together by random forwads the whole page seems to be.
    If you change your website and services make sure the changes work befor you go live.
    I rely on eprint, but have to learn relying to an HP service seems to be a bad idea.
    HP eprint
    Login screen
    forwads to the notice eprint now is hpconnected
    "change to hp connected" forwads you to - eprint!
    which presents the eprint login window
    which splashes a screen eprint is now hpconnected
    from where you are send straight to eprint again...
    just embarrassing.

    As I already wrote, the hp connected site redirects to the hp eprint site within a fraction of a second.
    My country and region is set to switzerland, and it never was set to anything different.
    If I try to reset the password (also aready did this), which I only can do on the eprint site, because the hp connected site immediately redirects me, I get a message I already changed to hp connected and i should do so there.
    Guess what happens if I press "switch to hp connected" on this pop up.
    Right. I am redirected to the eprint login screen.
    I made a series of rapid screenshots so you can observe the adressbar with its redirection orgies from hell.
    Problem is your stupid hp disconnected site immediatly spits me back to eprint, does'nt matter what I try to do.
    so, 2014-02-23 at 08.06.06, lets try hpconnected.com (or your direct link to sing in, it happens the same)
    Bildschirmfoto 2014-02-23 at 08.06.10 , it it's loading...
    2014-02-23 at 08.06.11... redirecting to... yeah, back there...
    So try to get the login window 2014-02-23 at 08.06.19
    and "forgot password"... 2014-02-23 at 08.06.31
    ok...  2014-02-23 at 08.06.34 - oh, a message, I already changed to hp connected. Lucky one...
    So press "change to hp conneced" 2014-02-23 at 08.06.38
    for a moment, in the adress bar the link to the hp connected singing page appears...
    2014-02-23 at 08.06.40 - 2 seconds later.
    Back to hp eprint.
    I don't know who implemented or is responsible for this, but maybe he/she should get a job in your cafeteria. It's better for everyone.

  • Sleep proxy routing loops

    I've discovered another problem with the current implementation of the sleep proxy. My proxy is an Airport Express that is NOT the router off my network (that's a separate Linux box with features not provided by Airport Express).
    When a Mac registers with the sleep proxy on the Airport and goes to sleep, the Airport answers ARPs for the Mac's IP address. An incoming packet from the outside for the Mac is thus delivered to the proxy, but the proxy then hands it back to the router, which hands it to the proxy. This happens until the IP TTL decrements to zero and an ICMP Unreachable TTL Exceeded is returned to the sender.
    This happens for each and every incoming packet for the Mac Pro as long as the Mac remains asleep. I run Bit Torrent on that Mac, so quite a bit of UDP traffic continues to arrive after the Mac has gone to sleep and each and every one of these packets gets caught in that forwarding loop. Very inelegant.

  • How many times forwarding messages can go ?

    I'm wondering how many times can be possible ?
    For example .,.user01 -> user02 -> user03 -> user04 -> user05 etc
    In my test, only "user01 -> user02 -> user03" was possible.
    Is it right test? Only 2 steps ?

    For one thing, see the MAX_RECEIVED_LINES option.
    http://msg.wikidoc.info/index.php/Held_sndopr%2C_id_domain%2C_max_local_received_lines%2C_max_mr_received_lines%2C_max_received_lines%2C_max_total_received_lines%2C_max_x400_received_lines%2C_received_domain%2C_received_version

    As the MTA processes a message, it counts the number of Received: header lines in the message's header. If the number of Received: lines exceeds the max_received_lines value, the message is entered into the MTA destination channel queue area in a held state. This check blocks certain kinds of message forwarding loops. The message must be manually moved from the held state for processing to continue. The default for max_received_lines is 50.

  • Need help with loop

    The script below analyses an indesign doc for missing links and then places library asset on the page, cuts and "pastes into" any frame with a missing link (the cut and paste thing sucks, but we can't figure out any other way to avoid an external image source for the missing pic placeholder graphic). The loop finds the missing links except for 2. If there are 5 missing links, it finds 3. If there are 10 missing links, it finds 8...etc. Why won't it catch them all?
    Script below:
    myCheckGraphics();
    function myCheckGraphics(){
             myDocument=app.activeDocument;
            for(var myCounter = 0; myCounter < myDocument.allGraphics.length; myCounter++){
                var myGraphic = myDocument.allGraphics[myCounter];
                if(myGraphic.itemLink.status == LinkStatus.LINK_MISSING){
                    var myLib=app.libraries.item("Missing Link.indl");
                if(File.fs == "Macintosh"){
                    var myLibPath=app.open(File("/Applications/Adobe Indesign CS3/Cover Setup/Missing Link.indl"));
                else{
                myLibPath=app.open(File("/c/Program%20Files/Adobe/Cover Setup/Missing Link.indl"));
                var selectMiss=app.select(myGraphic);
                missLink=app.selection[0].parent;
                var selectBox=app.select(missLink);
                var myX=missLink.visibleBounds;
                var myTop=myX[0];
                var myLeft=myX[1];
                var myBottom=myX[2];
                var myRight=myX[3];
                var myWide=myRight-myLeft;
                var myBigBottom=myBottom-myTop;
                if((myWide>35)||(myBigBottom>20)){
                    myAss=myLib.assets.item("Missing Link Big");
                else if((myWide>15)||(myBigBottom>10)){
                    myAss=myLib.assets.item("Missing Link Medium");
                else{
                    myAss=myLib.assets.item("Missing Link Small");
                    myMissAlert();
                    }//end if missing link
                }//end for loop
        function myMissAlert(){
            ////place the asset.//////
            myAss.placeAsset (myDocument) ;
            var myAsset=myDocument.pageItems.item("Missing Link");
            var selectAss=app.select(myAsset);
            var myDupe = app.copy() ;
            var det=myAsset.remove();
            var selectBox=app.select(missLink);
            var myPaste=app.pasteInto()
            app.select(NothingEnum.nothing, undefined);

    A fairly recurrent "problem" with Indesign.
    The loop checks for missing links on an array of images. However, as soon as you correct one of these links, the array it's checking gets updated in the background, so the loop seems to skip every other image!
    Suppose you have an array
    missingLinks = [ "a", "b", "c" ]
    (where all are missing) and you loop from 0 to 2. The first one checks #0 and corrects it. Now the array will change (in the background) to
    ["b", "c"]
    ... and your loop happily continues with #1 -- "c".
    The common solution is to loop over the array backwards:
    for(var myCounter = myDocument.allGraphics.length-1; myCounter >= 0; myCounter--)
    Notice you have to use "length - 1" and check "myCounter >= 0", because the array elements are numbered from 0 to length-1 -- perfectly logical for a computer, somewhat less so for a human. The regular forwards loop does exactly the same, but it's a bit more 'hidden' from casual inspection.

  • Spantree Loop Guard (question)

    Hi All,
    I would like to ask about one feature:-
    (Spantree loopguard default), what does this feature provide?? And when should I use it??

    Hello,
    Ive never seen it configured in the networks I've worked on, but loopguard is STP feature that will monitor ports that were once receiving BPDU packtes. If these port stop receiving it, this could create a loop, so if you have loopguard enabled on this port the STP will block the port for going to FWD state.
    Check:
    The loop guard is intended to provide additional protection against L2 forwarding loops (STP loops). An STP loop is created when an STP blocking port in a redundant topology erroneously transitions to forwarding state. This usually happens because one of the ports of a physically redundant topology (not necessarily the STP blocking port) stopped receiving STP BPDUs. In its operation, STP relies on continuous reception or transmission of BPDUs, depending on the port role (designated port transmits, non-designated port receives BPDUs).
    When one of the ports in a physically redundant topology stops receiving BPDUs, the STP conceives the topology as loop free. Eventually, the blocking port from the alternate or backup port becomes designated, and moves to forwarding state, thus creating a loop.
    With the loop guard, an additional check is made. If BPDUs are not received any more on a non-designated port and the loop guard is enabled, that port will be moved into the STP loop-inconsistent blocking state instead of moving to the listening / learning / forwarding state. Without the loop guard, the port would assume the designated port role. The port would move to STP forwarding state, and thus create a loop. "
    So, on which ports should the loop guard be enabled? The most obvious answer is on the blocking ports. However, this is not totally correct. The loop guard needs to be enabled on the non-designated ports (more precisely, on root and alternate ports) for all possible combinations of active topologies."
    HTH,
    if it does, I'd appreciate if you rated this post.

  • Connection failed - automatically search for broken alias?

    I recently replaced an old network drive. Now - whenever I launch iPhoto I get an error:
    Connection failed The server “NASX6 (AFP)” may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
    I think I have an alias somewhere in my library that points to the old network drive but I don't know where. I also have over 40,000 photos in hundreds of folders so searching manually doesn't seem to be an option.
    Is there a way to run a search for aliases that are broken - or even just aliases in general?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    No - that is one (of many) why referenced libraries are strongly discouraged
    someone posted a method that they claim will reconnect the aliases - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2744741&tstart=0
    I have no idea what it does or how it works (or if it does for that matter) - as always backup prior to making changes

  • How to install system 9.1 on second drive of a G4 while running OS 10.5.8 on primary drive

    I am Using a G4 OS 10.5.8, trying to install system 9.1 on an erased/reformated disk with system 9 drivers option selected. Can't boot with a 9.1 install disk by holding C key on startup.   When booted with sys 10.5.8 attempting to install sys 9 on the reformatted drive yields error "classic functions are no longer supported"  no luck just copying  the software from the install disk, even though the drive shows up as an available startup drive, it never gets a spinning wheel during startup attempts.
    Thinking about reinstalling the original powermac G4 software (there are other partitions or drives available) but trying the path of least resistance first.
    Totally open to suggestions

    Since you are running OS X 10.5 (Leopard) on that machine, unless you used one of the unsupported install methods your G4 has a processor that is 867MHz or faster (that's one of the requirements for Leopard).
    Assuming that is the case, you will never be able to boot the machine to OS 9.1, or to any retail OS 9 Install CD.
    The first G4 which met the 867MHz requirement was the QuickSilver '02 model (only the mid and upper speed units); all G4 MDD models meet that requirement.
    All of the preceding which are OS 9 bootable (the G4 MDD FW800 model is not OS 9 bootable) can use only the model-specific version of OS 9.2.2 which shipped with them as a bootable OS 9.
    The QS '02 models used a stand-alone OS 9.2.2 Install CD, labelled Software Install. Installation of OS 9.2.2 using that is straight-forward - boot the machine to the Software Install CD, and install OS 9.2.2 on the second drive.
    The MDD models are a bit different. They came with a combination installer disk, one which booted to OS X but which was capable of also installing OS 9.2.2 (Classic, I think it is referred to in the installer's jargon).
    Unfortunately, the installer on those disks seems to have a restriction - it will install OS 9 (Classic) only onto a volume which already has OS X installed on it. So, how to get OS 9-only on the second drive? Two ways -
    A) Install OS 9 (Classic) onto the main drive, then copy it via drag-and-drop onto the second volume. Once placed there and tested for booting, remove the install of it placed on the original drive. Be sure to copy the folders named System Folder, Applications (Mac OS 9), and Documents; if there is a free-standing folder named Utilities, copy that too (it often is placed into the Applications (Mac OS 9) folder).
    Possible issues -
    * since the OS X on the original drive is Leopard, a substantly newer version that that on the OEM disk set, the installer on that disk set may balk at doing this.
    • aliases will be broken by copying the system and support files to the second drive. This can include an alias to Sherlock in the Apple Menu Items folder in System Folder and perhaps one or more in the Application Support folder in System Folder. Alises can be repaired - do a Get Info on an alias, and the Get Info window will display a button which can be used to reconnect the alias to the appropriate original.
    B) Install OS X (the version on the original install CD set) onto the second drive. Then install OS 9 (Classic) onto that drive. Once it has been tested for booting, throw away the OS X system and files from that drive.
    Possible issue - deleting OS X can leave behind some invisible files. Unless you are very short on disk space, these should present no problem and can be ignored - OS 9 will not (can not) attempt to use them.
