570 or 580... please explain the pros/cons

Looking at putting together a budget list for the next budget year (not till July, but I needed a break from editing so I'm doing it now) and I've got a question about video cards. I've done a good bit of searching here, but haven't found a clear answer re: the 570 or the 580. Obviously the 580 is about $150 more expensive, so from a price point, it's not as nice. But if price wasn't an issue, and all other things were equal, what would be the benefit of the 580 over the 570? Adobe supposedly certifies both, which is nice.
I'm currently running an older 285, which is showing it's age as I get into RED Epic footage, with multiple layers, so it's time to go up in the world. Quadros are simply not even an option, price-wise, which is what has led me to the battle between these two.
My other specs are as follows, and upgrading CPU and Mobo aren't really viable options right now:
i7-920 @ 2.67 (not OC'd)
P6T6 WS Revolution
12 GB DDR1333 (to be upgraded to 24GB DDR1600 in July)
650W PSU (to be upgraded to 1000W PSU in July)
total of 6 internal WD Enterprise SATA drives (3x single disks, 1x 3-disk RAID-5)
total of 2 optical drives (1x DVD-RW, 1x BD-RW)
RocketRaid 231x PCIe external SATA controller, running a 4-disk RAID-5 G-Speed eS array and two single externals as eSATA only (don't know if this is best practice... to run single disks in the available slots on my RAID controller, but it worked... I'm sure I'll hear about it if it's not best practice! )
Completely separate question: I know this has absolutely nothing to do with how PrPro operates, but I'm curious and figured someone here might be able to answer the question. The "Windows Experience Index" for my system is 5.9 on an 8 point scale, and the primary hard disk is what has dropped it to 5.9... every other item is a 7.3 or higher. What would I need to do to my primary hard disk to bring it up into the range of my other components? And is there a point to doing so, or is the WEI simply a hype thing that Microsoft did for the consumer, and really has no actual impact on the system?

I agree, Harm. The WEI, for the most part, is only good for separating the obviously substandard from the barely tolerable. It is absolutely useless for comparing systems that are both reasonably fast (but one is obviously noticeably faster than the other).
On the other hand, if the OP absolutely must get a new card right away, he should go for the GTX 570 since the GTX 580's performance increase isn't worth the extra $150 or so over the GTX 570. But make sure that he gets a true reference GTX 570 if he must purchase an eVGA-branded card since the so-called "GTX 570 HD" cards from that same company are significantly shorter and come with less effective coolers that are very similar to the reference GTX 560 Ti heatsink (plus, the "GTX 570 HD" cards are based on PCBs that are only as long as a reference GTX 560 Ti board).

• Please explain the magic! (Question)

The ActionScript snippet below is from the BlaseDS chat sample app. Can someone please explain the magic that declares the chatMessage property of AsyncMessage.body (IMessage.body?) object? It's not in the docs anywhere so I'm guessing it is not built into AsyncMessage. And it's not defined in any of the sample app source files.
Coming from a strongly-typed development world, seeing a property that apparently has no declaration and is not explicitly instantiated does not pass the sniff-test.
Thanks.
<mx:Script>

import mx.messaging.messages.AsyncMessage;
import mx.messaging.messages.IMessage;
private function send():void
var message:IMessage = new AsyncMessage();
message.body.chatMessage = msg.text;
producer.send(message);
msg.text = "";
private function messageHandler(message:IMessage):void
log.text += message.body.chatMessage + "\n";

Hold your nose, because that is the dynamic "feature" of Actionscript. Pretty much every class derives from Object (http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/Object.html) which is a dictionary of key-value property pairs. The {"chatMessage", msg.text as Object} pair is created upon assignment.
I am fairly new to Flex/AS, and while not having to declare types is convenient for quick and dirty coding, I try to avoid it in production code...I have been bitten by refactoring a class and not catching all the places where it was referenced dynamically. I'm sure there are comprehensive pro and con arguments out there.

• Is there anything available that covers the pros/cons of a simple and network PCD migration?

Is there anything available that covers the pros/cons of a simple and network PCD migration?

Hi,
as such there is no DOC but I can share my views:
Under Pros:
a. PCD is an application use to migrate older versions[6.1.5, 7.x , 8.x] running on MCS to VM servers.
b.It can be used to change the IP address or hostname on new servers without affecting existing version .
c. Many users using MCS Hardware are not willing to migrate to latest version because of existing HW not supporting interim releases which they have to hop through to get on to the target release.
d. Further, this requires license re-hosting as well for interim releases and major downtimes as well which can be avoided by using PCD without disturbing existing setup.
e. Also, DRAM/HDD sizing needs to be considered while doing migration on MCS.PCD addresses these issues for migration.
Under CONS:
a. It needs to be ordered through Product Upgrade Tool and bootable is not downloadable from Cisco site.
b. You could face some issues while doing migration which could be bugs but can be resolved.
c.could face issues while discovering cluster/doing migration but can be resolved.

• What are the pros/cons of having 1 large BI system versus 2 medium systems?

What are the pros/cons of having 1 large BI system versus 2 medium systems? Are there any known limits as to how large a BI system can be until it experiences performance problems?
Thanks!

Hi,
I dont think there is any limit as long as your DB and Apps servers support it.
There are case studies on systems from 20 TB to 60 TB.
Regarding having two meduim installations it may not be a right choice if you consider facts like routine maintenance, DB upgrades and reorganization, number of resources required, number of DEV and QUAL servers required (this will increase as each PROD requires one DEV and one QUAL atleast).
If you have a single PROD you can do away with this.
One DEV , one QUAL and a single team of dedicated resources are required to maintain the system.
Try this Help files.

• 2 GB Limit – Please explain the concept

I have more than 35000 photos already uploaded into Revel.
In order to continue to remain a Free member, shall I have to delete all my photos and keep only within 2 GB limit?
Please explain the new concept... Thanks!

You may continue to use revel free of charge with the new model change, however, if you have stored more than 2 GB of files, then you will be unable to upload any additional photos/videos until you delete some files to take you below the limit or subscribe to get unlimited uploads.

In the iPhone, please explain the requirements in settings for Apple id, iPhone and iCloud

You can use 1 unified Apple ID for iTunes so you don't have to repurchase apps. That part is fine.
For iCLoud/iMessage/Facetime you should each have a unique ID so the 2 phones will be separate and you won't accidentally erase each other's content and overwrite settings, nor will you get the others messaages by mistake.

Older iPads got 3G service and were called Wi-Fi + 3G. Newer iPads can connect to faster cellular networks and those are given different names by the major carrier so to simplify things Apple calls the newer models Wi-Fi + Cellular.
iPads with 3G or Cellular are NOT used like a mobile phone. They do not make phone calls or send SMS or MMS text messages, They do connect to the data network and can connect to the web.

• Can any please explain the integration business process between PS and CS

Dear Guru's
Can any please explain the integration business process between Project systems (PS) and customer service (CS).
Business Process: We do machinery Erection or commissioning, later we do provide service warranty for one year.
How we map this Business scenario in sap.
Regards,
Bhanu

basic steps for such a process would be
1) Use PS functionality for your machinery erection or commisioning work. Once the physical work is completed then close porject
2) Use CS functionality for warranty and service - set up the work as a functional location on customer site (PM/CS functionality)
3) Use service order to manage any service calls on the object which could require billing via SD module - bill value may be zero if under warranty

Hi,

rnd:displayname(contentLink/[1;2-3]/alignTop/space-right=30
please explain how this setting works? for example how that contentLink/[1;2-3] works? is there other setting I can use? like contentLink/1?
Thanks!
T.J.

Hi T.J.
First read this:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/79/a1d23e6b2c3d67e10000000a114084/frameset.htm
There are multiple property renderers available for some properties. Simply using the property name
instead of the property name with rnd: namespace will typically display the property value in a
more primitive way than the formatted rnd: version. For instance, the rnd: version for description
will truncate the text whereas the raw version will not.
The bracket syntax is used to postion the properties in grid renders like the search results layout sets.

Darin
