5700 Ultra with GDDR3 : 256-bit mem-interface???
Hey guys,
this question is for the techno-geeks (like myself ) in the hardware stuff, specifficaly about Vid Cards.
Well the question is the following:
The new Nvidia GeforceFX 5700 Utra cards with GDDR3 memory, that will start shipping in mid-march, will have 256-bit memory interface like the big guys (high-end cards) or will remain with the poor guys (low/mid-end cards) 128-bit interface??.
This is an important question that i need answered cause it will help me decide if i go for that card or an ATI one in the near future.
So plz guys, i would appreciate some replies here.
Cheers.
As far as I know, the width of the memory interface for the GPU depends on the GPU design itself (i.e, with either a 128-bit or 256-bit data bus). So since they will be using the same GPU (NV36 I think), the card will continue to have a 128-bit width memory interface.

CF9 Encrypt with AES 256-bit, example anyone?
Hi there. I'm looking for a working example of the Encrypt method using the AES 256 bit key. I think that I have the Unlimited Strength Jurisdiction Policy Files enabled. And I'm still getting the CFError,
The key specified is not a valid key for this encryption: Illegal key size.
Now i hit the wall, can't get it. What wrong am i doing? How can I verify that the policy files are installed and accessible to my cf file? Any help is greatly appreciated.

<cfabort>Verison 10 is different from 9 because they run on different servlet containers. CF 10 uses Tomcat, CF 9 uses JRun, so things are in different places.
\\ColdFusion10\jre\lib\security seems like the correct locaiton for the policy files to me. I actually gave you the wrong locations in my original post (sorry about that). According to the installation instructions they belong in <java-home>\lib\security, which is looks like you've found.
So something else is wrong. Here are some things to look at, in no particular order:
1. Are you using a JVM other than the Java 1.6 that comes with CF10?
2. Did you restart Tomcat after coping the files in?
3. Note that I keep saying FILES, did you copy BOTH of th .jar files from the JCE folder you unzipped into the security directory. It should have prompted you to overwrite existing files.
4. Did you try unzipping the files and copying them in again, on the chance that they did not overwrite the originals?
Sorry, I don't have CF10 installed to give this a try. But I have no reason to believe that it would not work in 10. It's all just JCA/JCE on the underlying JAVA, and I have heard no reports from anyone else that it doesn't work.

5900XT 256-bit memory interface?? yes or no?
i must know the answer to this. I wanna buy this card, but it is imparitive that it has a 256bit memory interface. Please someone clear this up for me.
Like the other guy said YES it is 256bit. Now I find it funny but most ATI fans try to say that it is 128bit because they do not like the 5900XT being able to stand up to their top of the line cards in any way. Most 5900XT will over clock to speeds that will compete with the 9800 or even the 9800 pro and ATI fans just hate that such a cheap card can do that. I have had this same thing talked about on different forums that have mostly ATI fans and they always try to say that the 5900XT is 128 bit and can not come close to even the ATI 9600XT. And every review that has the 2 faced off against each other it is not even close the 5900XT just kicks the 9600XT butt big time. And a lot of time beats the 9800 and 9800 pro on some things even at stock speed.
I am sure if you get that card you will be very happy with it. Just remember that MSI did some false advertising and tried saying it had temperature monitoring and all and it does not. But that have changed that on their web site now. I am still mad that I was expecting to have that with me new card and do not. -
Does exist FX5700LE TD128 with 64-bits memory interface?
Does exist FX5700LE TD128 with 64-bits memory interface?
riva tuner and everest they say to me that the memory interface is 64-bit.
aida32: 128-bit ddr2
and the website of FX5700LE TD128 says
Performance
• Graphic Core: 256-bit
• Memory Interface: 128-bit????
• Pixel per clock (peak):4
• Vertices per Second: 187.5 million
• Textures per pixel (max in a single rendering pass): 16
• Dual RAMDACs (MHz): 400
sorry for my english
i speak spanish only
english by translatorIf you go to the product page on the MSI Global website you'll see that it says right in the description that this is 128Bit technology...as was stated earlier, some software check/monitor programs are unable to properly detect some or all of the current hardware on the market...that's more and more common today...
I've seen some users install software that was released prior to the hardware they want to test with it (the software)...this can lead to many misguided assumptions being that the software limitations render incorrect results...always chcek to ensure that the software is up to date and supports the hardware you are testing... -
Windows 8.1 Pro Bitlocker AES 256-bit cypher question
Hi, all
Have an odd situation I cannot make any sense of. I have a desktop PC running Windows 8.1 Pro. I launched gpedit.msc and changed Bitlocker’s cypher strength from the default AES 128-bit to AES 256-bit.
I then connected a brand new Western Digital 4TB external drive (model WDBFJK0040HBK-04) to the PC via USB 3.0, and Bitlocker-encrypted the drive. Opened a command prompt window as administrator, ran “manage-bde –status” for the drive in question,
which indicated the drive was encrypted with the 128 bit cypher strength, instead of 256 bits, as I had selected. Have unencrypted, rebooted and re-encrypted the drive time and again, always with the same results.
When connecting the same external 4TB drive to a Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials in which I had made the exact same changes via gpedit.msc,
I can encrypt it with the 256-bit cypher strength, with no problems.
No TPM is used in either scenario, just a passphrase.
Anyone has any idea why my 256-bit setting is being ignored in the Windows 8.1 Pro machine?
Thanks
Arsene
ArseneLWell, running rsop.msc in my Server 2012 R2 machine does show my 256-bit bitlocker setting took, however, running rsop.msc in my Win 8.1 Pro machine shows it did not, which explains the problem I am having.
Now all I have to do is find out why my request is not taking, even though I am logged in as an admin.
Thanks!!

5700 ultra full screen overlay on s-video out
Hi everybody,
I have a Feforce FX 5700 ultra with vga out and s-video out.
I have it set up so that my vga out controls my monitor as its primary display, and the s-video is connected to my tv.
screen is set to clone and full screen video set to secondat display (tv)
this all works fine and the full screen overlay transfers the picture of movies and some games to my tv.
However I can't figure out how to set it up so the video overlays on the tv, while the game I want to be playing on the primary monitor doesn't.
What I mean is that when i start the video it overlays on the tv, but as soon as I start a game, that full screen overlay takes over.
I know there's a way to edit program-specific settings , but does anyone know what exactly to edit, and how to make it work so i can watch full screen video on my tv while playing a full screen game on my monitor?You cant watch full screen video on the tv while playing full screen games on the monitor...
This is a limitation of the video card and not a problem with the drivers or something else. -
GF 5700 Ultra, problems with KG7 Motherboard
Hi,
My system specs are:
Athlon 1400 (t-bird, 133 bus)
KG7-lite motherboard
512Mb corsair memory (333, running at 266)
MSI geforce 5700 ultra
sound blaster live value
120 gig west dig, 80 gig western dig
I have had a fair few problems with this card, firstly it took me several hours to get it working. When i first put it in the screen was pretty distorted. I tried to install the latest nvidia drivers but they caused the screen to turn blank (signal but black screen) when windows came to the log on screen.
I reset my bios settings for my motherboard and got windows to boot although it was ni 4-bit colour mode. Eventually I was able to get the correct drivers installed and the card seems to be working OK.
When i turn certian settings on like "fast write" it causes the screen to blank out like previously mentioned.
Now its installed im not really satisfied with the quality but im putting this down to my fairly low spec CPU and motherboard which i hope to upgrade in the new year.
[edit] Morrowind, which is the only game i have tried, is now unplayable and i am unsure why. The graphics right from the first screen are distorted. [/edit]
anyone else had any of these problems and know if there will be any fixes for this?
cheers,
SebSeb,
The picture was exactly what I was looking for. You have everything bunched up on IRQ5. Your system does not have a chance of running correctly in that configuration.
your motherboard is too old to support APIC so you only get IRQs 0-15. To free up some IRQs, disable COM1, Com2, and Parallel Port if you are not using them.
You should not use PCI Slot 1 because it shares the IRQ with AGP Slot. You should not use PCI Slot 4 because it shares with the USB Controller. You should not use PCI Slot 5 because it shares with the Highpoint IDE Controller. The rest of the PCI Slots should be fine.
Make sure you load the latest Motherboard Drivers too.
Take Care,

ITunes replacing 256 bit songs with 128 bit songs
When I downloaded new applications from the App Store today, I noticed that my downloads in iTunes also downloaded six songs. Upon further inspection, it replaced three Peter Gabriel Songs from the Album "So" with 128 bit versions, and moved my 256 bit versions to the trash. I purchsed six songs, total, off of that album, but only three were replaced and deleted.
In addition to moving the above songs to the trash, it also sidelined a handful of songs by copying new versions, including:
I've been Everywhere, Johnny Cash, Unchained
Baby Baby, Amy Grant, (no record of previous purchase from this same album)
New York, New York, Tony Bennett, Fifty Years (previously had a 128 bit version, and it downloaded a second 128 bit version)
Anyone else experience this? You can easily check after the fact by sorting on recently modified songs, and see if you have any 128 bit versions, or if you don't empty your trash often, by looking for the "Original iTunes Purchases" in your trash. This will show any files that have been deleted, but not sidelined.I saw ginbear's post and looked again. I had two more replaced files. Appears they were replaced on 1/22 and 1/24 of this year. I have a couple thousand iTunes tracks, and it only seems to replace a couple ever few months. Luckily, I was able to retrieve the files. One from a recent backup, and the other from a one-off copy I made just in case, the last time it happened.
Here's the response I received from Apple after pursuing it for a couple weeks the last time it happened. They looked at specific tracks iTunes had downloaded.
I'm not sure what the representative is trying to say, but I was glad they looked into the issue.
10/13/2011
Name, this issue is one that does not occur often (I myself have only encountered one other instance of this happening). This may have been caused by a technical error in the iTune Store itself resulting in the pre-upgraded file to download automatically to your account which has been only been known to happen on very rare occasion.
The other explanation may have been an error in iTunes, or with your iTunes library file that caused the 128-bit DRM files to replace your 256-bit DRM free files. For example, if your iTunes library was restored from an iTunes library file before the upgrade was made.
In any case, it is not the iTunes Store's intent to replace your music with pre-upgraded files so I am very glad to hear that you were able to recover your iTunes Plus music, and do not appear to have any files missing.
I want to make sure that you are able to enjoy your iTunes Plus music, so please feel fee to let me know if there is anything further I can assist you with in regards to your files. Thank you for your continued patience name. I hope you have an excellent day! -
MSI FX 5700 Ultra problem with linux
Hi,
I know that linux are not officially suported by MSI VGA cards, but NVIDIA based VGA cards use to work under linux. I've got a problem with a recent purchase and until now I didn't found any answer.
Here is my problem, if anyone here have an idea :
I recently upgraded my video card Geforce 2 MX to a Geforce FX 5700 Ultra from MSI (FX 5700 Ultra TD128).
I've an Athlon XP 2000,
motherboard Gigabyte GA-7VAXP, 512 Mb,
distrib Mandrake 9.2
latest nvidia driver 5328
At startup after installation, Mandrake detected a new hardware, but it was not the right card name. The video test failed and X (graphic mode) didn't start.
Back to console mode, I discovered that even the console mode doesn't work properly : I have no cursor and the screen lines don't scroll up when the screen gets full (very hard to type commands or edit files).
I checked the XF86Config-4 : for me it seems ok. Actually, it didn't change from the previous card.
I've no errors in the XFree log (no lines with (EE)).
I went to the MSI site to look for a newer bios version, but there is'nt.
I tried both DVI and VGA connection with my LCD monitor, same thing.
I also tried running Knoppix (liveCD distrib), same prob.
I pasted below the message i've got on screen when I try to start X manually (this doesn't help much either) :
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
It seems to me that this graphic card simply doesn't work under linux.
Thanks a lot for any help.To get X to work with your LCD during the installation process append nofb as one of the installation options.
I have a 17" LCD so you might like to compare the relevant sections in your XF86Config with these:
Section "Module"
Load "dbe"
Load "extmod"
Load "fbdevhw"
Load "glx"
Load "dri"
Load "record"
Load "freetype"
Load "type1"
EndSection
(The Load "dri" gets removed prior to installing nvidia's Forceware drivers.)
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "CML174SX"
DisplaySize 340 270
HorizSync 24.0 - 80.0
VertRefresh 56.0 - 75.0
Option "dpms"
EndSection -
Grafikerrors with the FX 5700 Ultra!
Hi!
I have some serious problems with the Geforce FX 5700 Ultra from MSI!
Whenever I run a 3d application my card isn't able to show the right colors ...!Furthermore, there are a lot of clipping errors ...
I tried for the Grafikcard the ForceWare 52.16 (the latest) and the Detonator 41.09!
I also flashed my bios (Board:A7V-133) and I have the latest via drivers for the mainboard!
As Direct X driver I use the 9.0b, the test of drirect Draw and direct3d are successful!
Is it possible that my board is too old for the videocard?!
Thanks for your help!
Greetings,h3r0Well, after looking through the user manual (.pdf) I find it doesn't have one. booo hiss. But I found the following at amdmb.com which may give you something to try.
Quote
AGP 4X Drive Strength
Default is Auto. Leave it on auto unless you need to change the AGP Drive Strength(see below), then set it to manual.
AGP Drive Strength P Ctrl "C" and AGP Drive Strength N Ctrl "E"
When AGP 4X Drive strength is set to manual you can choose settings of "0" "1" "2" ..."F". If you have an Nvidia based Geforce Video card, you can try changing this value to DA or EA to increase stability in games. These values are obtained by combining the individual values for the AGP Drive Strength P Ctrl "C" and AGP Drive Strength N Ctrl "E" settings. Once you get into the BIOS and see how this setting works it will become clearer.
AGP Fast Write
Default value is Disabled. This feature enables the Fast Writes feature on the latest video cards for improved graphics performance.... many people find this feature to make the system unstable.
(Editors' note: I enable this option on my GeForce2 GTS 32DDR -
256 bit encryption with Distiller?
I have Acrobat X and am using a watched folder and Distiller to generate encrypted .pdf documents.
Distiller is set to 128 bit encryption and I don't see any way to change that.
The help button on the Distiller security settings dialog links to a help page about Acrobat security instead of Distiller ( I filed a bug about that already).
Thanks in advance for any help.The user will probably have to open each file and set the security in Acrobat after Distiller has made them.
Beware of 256 bit encryption, it puts severe limits on the software people can use to read the files. -
5900 Ultra with only 128 mb DDR ?
Hello people!
I just bought a nBox with a GeForce FX 5900 Ultra with 256 mb DDR. But after installing the latest driver (5214) provided by MSI, I've just discovered that my VGA Card has only 128 mb DDR. I found it strange because I don't know any Ultra version with 128 mb.
I'd like to have the help of yours to solve this problem. What can be the solution? A new BIOS version? (I don't find any in Live Update 3) A new diferent driver? Taking the Card back to the vendor?
Please people! Help me about this problem.
Thank You All!

[Video Configuration]Tell me if I'm a mile off here by all means, but something weird happened with my system a couple of days ago. The AGP card in my Sig until a couple of days ago was doing exactly as described above and was strangely reporting.....
Total Local Video Memory @ 256mb
Total Local Texture Memory @ 256mb....and then frustratingly....
Total AGP Memory @ 128mb
.....Obviously it should have been reporting @ 256mb and I also thought I had a duff card too after trying a whole manner of the usual tricks to try and locate the source of the problem and sort it. I know it's not the mentioned 5900 too, but it did it all the same and depending on what Application you use to view that information as well, then unless you had one that would report more detailed info like above, if merely using Control Panel for example, then it would report just the Total AGP of 128mg (clearly incorrectly so)).
Then, I brought the new Monitor also now in my Sig those couple of days ago and installed the Drivers for it, that's the only thing that has changed on my system for a while.....
I read this thread straight away with interest on seeing it after noticing my FX5600 doing the exact same, and on reaing these posts I went back to double check it again, and I have just found that mine is now correctly reporting at 256mb...HHHhhhMMmmmm. Now it could well be coincidence, but it does seem that in my case either the Monitor itself or the improved Drivers specifically for it sorted it instantly strangely enough, maybe something to try, you just never know sometimes do you. The old Monitor wasn't exactly crap either (that was a 17" Samsung Syncmaster 750s, which very soon I'll also be plugging that in too for a Dual Monitor capability and hope that on sodoing that the problem doesn't return either, but if it did I'd be able to tell you for certain too obviously)!!!
I'm wondering if the ONLY other thing that may have had an influence is I used the AGP Display "D.O.T" and set that up to the "Commander" Setting too?? As said, other than that NOTHING at all has been changed on my system for a fair while!!!
In all probability it won't, but maybe there's an outside chance that this occurence is relatedas the FX5600 and the 5900 aren't that disimilar or detached from one another when all is said and done either other than the blatantly obvious lol!!
I'm posting in hope that maybe it could be of use after reading your posts and otherwise hope that those concerned are sorted and rid of the issue in the near future too, good luck !! -
5700 ultra BSOD and nv4_disp.dll
Just got a MSI 5700 Ultra yesterday and am now suffering random BSOD's (they all seem to mention NV4_disp.dll). I've reformatted the drive and done a clean install of XP Pro (with all the latest service pack stuff) and installed 53.04 detonators, to no avail.
I'm running:
2800XP Barton
ASUS A7N8X Delux Mobo
1GB 3200 Ram (TWINMOS)
I've changed most of the stuff recently(but it seemed fairly stable until I installed the 5700),
Does anyone have ideas?
Oh, I've also got a 500W PSU, so I don't think it could be a power problem.
Hope someone can help before I kick it down the stairs!!!!!

Does anyone have any advice regarding 256 bit full disk encryption software for Macs? The other discussions on the topic are years old, so I would like some current input. Thanks for your help in advance.
Depending on your Mac, you might not want to upgrade to OS X 10.7 or 10.8 as it will not run the PowerPC based software your currently using costing a bundle to replace it all, also they will slow down your machine if it's not a more recent issue. You don't want to upgrade OS X without AppleCare defending your possibly bricked logicboard that's for sure.
Filevault encrypts the boot drive, however in doing so makes it near impossible to fix if you have a software issue and need to recover files directly or by using specialty software. Also it robs the machine of performance even more than the Lions do. So you will really need a SSD to work best with 10.7/10.8 and Filevault, then it has to be freshly installed. Filevault needs 50% free space on the boot drive, then it's going to write to the slower 50% half of the hard drive where performance is terrible compared to the first 50%.
Also Filevault is cracked under certain conditions, and if someone gets their hands on the machine (like the law) and knows what they are doing.
If you take your Filevaulted machine to Apple to fix, they are going to require the password to fix the machine obviously.
Software based encryption is vulnerable, you might want to instead place your sensitive data on external self-encrypting hardware that doesn't rely upon software or computer hacks/bypasses (ike freezing the RAM) to get to it.

Iron Keys for portable USB self encryption, both work with any computer, so your not locked into one platform.
With the senstive data off the computer and on a external device, there is the option of removing, hiding and securing the device. If used with a computer that's never connected to the Internet, it's safe from snoopers, except from a survelliance van parked outside your door. -
Help enabling AES 256-bit cipher suites
I can't seem to create an SSLServerSocket with the 2 AES 256-bit cipher suites that are supposed to be available in JDK1.4.2. As you can see in the following code, the SSLServerSocket, ss, is enabled with the 2 AES_256 cipher suites. But, when ss.getEnabledCipherSuites() is invoked, those 2 suites aren't listed. What's up?
Also, what is this SSLv2Hello that I can't seem to get rid of?
String[] PROTOCOLS = {"SSLv3", "TLSv1"};
String[] CIPHER_SUITES = {"TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA",
"TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA",
"SSL_DHE_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA",
"TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA",
"TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA",
"SSL_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA"};// create an SSLServerSocket ss
SSLContext context = SSLContext.getInstance("TLS", "SunJSSE");
context.init(myKeyManagers, myTrustManagers, SecureRandom.getInstance("SHA1PRNG", "SUN"));
SSLServerSocketFactory ssFactory = context.getServerSocketFactory();
SSLServerSocket ss = ssFactory.createServerSocket();
ss.setEnabledProtocols(PROTOCOLS);
ss.setEnabledCipherSuites(CIPHER_SUITES);// output a bunch of useful debugging information
System.out.println(System.getProperty("java.version") + "\n");
Provider[] providers = Security.getProviders();
for(int i=0; i < providers.length; ++i)
System.out.println(providers[i] + "\n" + providers.getInfo() + "\n********************");
String[] enabledProtocols = ss.getEnabledProtocols();
for(int i=0; i < enabledProtocols.length; ++i)
System.out.println(enabledProtocols[i]);
String[] enabledCipherSuites = ss.getEnabledCipherSuites();
for(int i=0; i < enabledCipherSuites.length; ++i)
System.out.println(enabledCipherSuites[i]);
