  • Msi fx 5700 ultra 5900xt compatibility

    Hi
I recently bought a MSI fx5700 ultra to replace my ge force 4200 ti, However when I installed it is was a no go ran for about 10 seconds then the power switched of and the would not re start.  returned it to the shop who confirmed it was a dud then because no replacements are available loaned me a 5700 standard till they could get a new 5700 ultra.  ( the 5700 ran fine in my machine)  A few weeks went by then the shop contacted me informing me that could not get a 5700 ultra but would I be happy with a MSI 5900 xt which was satisfactory to me.  I installed the MSI 5900xt the machine started and windows xp loaded and detected the new hardware and all seamed fine until I went into a 3D game then strange things started to appear on the screen.  I re started the computer but even at the POST screen the screen was full of small vertical lines all over the screen and I could not get xp to load.  Back to the shop who again loaned me the 5700 standard which again worked fine.  and they confirmed the 5900xt was a faulty card.
    My system is:
    P4 2.53 gig 533 front system bus
ASUS p4pe motherboard AGP 4 only 1.5 volt
    1 gig ram
    Sound blaster live
a good quality power supply (thermo ??? 480 watt)
    2x120 gig hard drives
    cd writer.
    My question are
1/ As I understand it both cards are backward compatible with agp 4 / 1.5 volt. is this true or an I damaging the cards by installing them into my asus p4pe motherboard?
2/ Is it common to fine a faulty batch of cards? I have been building my own computers for about 6 years with no hardware problems until the 5700 ultra drama.
3/ Can any one suggest any thing else I may be doing wrong?
PS all my system is standard eg not over clocked etc.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone may be able to give
    Bob

  • MSI FX 5700 Ultra problem with linux

    Hi,
I know that linux are not officially suported by MSI VGA cards, but NVIDIA based VGA cards use to work under linux. I've got a problem with a recent purchase and until now I didn't found any answer.
Here is my problem, if anyone here have an idea :
I recently upgraded my video card Geforce 2 MX to a Geforce FX 5700 Ultra from MSI (FX 5700 Ultra TD128).
    I've an Athlon XP 2000,
    motherboard Gigabyte GA-7VAXP, 512 Mb,
    distrib Mandrake 9.2
    latest nvidia driver 5328
At startup after installation, Mandrake detected a new hardware, but it was not the right card name. The video test failed and X (graphic mode) didn't start.
Back to console mode, I discovered that even the console mode doesn't work properly : I have no cursor and the screen lines don't scroll up when the screen gets full (very hard to type commands or edit files).
I checked the XF86Config-4 : for me it seems ok. Actually, it didn't change from the previous card.
I've no errors in the XFree log (no lines with (EE)).
I went to the MSI site to look for a newer bios version, but there is'nt.
I tried both DVI and VGA connection with my LCD monitor, same thing.
I also tried running Knoppix (liveCD distrib), same prob.
I pasted below the message i've got on screen when I try to start X manually (this doesn't help much either) :
XIO:  fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
It seems to me that this graphic card simply doesn't work under linux.
Thanks a lot for any help.

To get  X to work with your LCD during the installation process append nofb as one of the installation options.
I have a 17" LCD so you might like to compare the relevant sections in your XF86Config with these:
    Section "Module"
       Load  "dbe"
       Load  "extmod"
       Load  "fbdevhw"
       Load  "glx"
            Load  "dri"
       Load  "record"
       Load  "freetype"
       Load  "type1"
    EndSection
(The Load "dri" gets removed prior to installing nvidia's Forceware drivers.)
    Section "Monitor"
       Identifier   "Monitor0"
       VendorName   "Monitor Vendor"
       ModelName    "CML174SX"
       DisplaySize  340   270
       HorizSync    24.0 - 80.0
       VertRefresh  56.0 - 75.0
       Option       "dpms"

  • GF 5700 Ultra, problems with KG7 Motherboard

    Hi,
    My system specs are:
    Athlon 1400 (t-bird, 133 bus)
    KG7-lite motherboard
    512Mb corsair memory (333, running at 266)
    MSI geforce 5700 ultra
    sound blaster live value
120 gig west dig, 80 gig western dig
I have had a fair few problems with this card, firstly it took me several hours to get it working.  When i first put it in the screen was pretty distorted.  I tried to install the latest nvidia drivers but they caused the screen to turn blank (signal but black screen) when windows came to the log on screen.
I reset my bios settings for my motherboard and got windows to boot although it was ni 4-bit colour mode. Eventually I was able to get the correct drivers installed and the card seems to be working OK.
When i turn certian settings on like "fast write" it causes the screen to blank out like previously mentioned.
Now its installed im not really satisfied with the quality but im putting this down to my fairly low spec CPU and motherboard which i hope to upgrade in the new year.
[edit] Morrowind, which is the only game i have tried, is now unplayable and i am unsure why.  The graphics right from the first screen are distorted. [/edit]
anyone else had any of these problems and know if there will be any fixes for this?
    cheers,
    Seb

    Seb,
The picture was exactly what I was looking for. You have everything bunched up on IRQ5. Your system does not have a chance of running correctly in that configuration.
your motherboard is too old to support APIC so you only get IRQs 0-15. To free up some IRQs, disable COM1, Com2, and Parallel Port if you are not using them.
You should not use PCI Slot 1 because it shares the IRQ with AGP Slot. You should not use PCI Slot 4 because it shares with the USB Controller. You should not use PCI Slot 5 because it shares with the Highpoint IDE Controller. The rest of the PCI Slots should be fine.
Make sure you load the latest Motherboard Drivers too.
    Take Care,
    Richard

  • 5700 ultra BSOD and nv4_disp.dll

Just got a MSI 5700 Ultra yesterday and am now suffering random BSOD's (they all seem to mention NV4_disp.dll). I've reformatted the drive and done a clean install of XP Pro (with all the latest service pack stuff) and installed 53.04 detonators, to no avail.
    I'm running:
    2800XP Barton
    ASUS A7N8X Delux Mobo
    1GB 3200 Ram (TWINMOS)
I've changed most of the stuff recently(but it seemed fairly stable until I installed the 5700),
    Does anyone have ideas?
Oh, I've also got a 500W PSU, so I don't think it could be a power problem.
Hope someone can help before I kick it down the stairs!!!!!

  • 5700 ultra full screen overlay on s-video out

    Hi everybody,
I have a Feforce FX 5700 ultra with vga out and s-video out.
I have it set up so that my vga out controls my monitor as its primary display, and the s-video is connected to my tv.
screen is set to clone and full screen video set to secondat display (tv)
this all works fine and the full screen overlay transfers the picture of movies and some games to my tv.
However I can't figure out how to set it up so the video overlays on the tv, while the game I want to be playing on the primary monitor doesn't.
What I mean is that when i start the video it overlays on the tv, but as soon as I start a game, that full screen overlay takes over.
I know there's a way to edit program-specific settings , but does anyone know what exactly to edit, and how to make it work so i can watch full screen video on my tv while playing a full screen game on my monitor?

You cant watch full screen video on the tv while playing  full screen games on the monitor...
This is a limitation of the video card and not a problem with the drivers or something else.

  • Grafikerrors with the FX 5700 Ultra!

    Hi!
I have some serious problems with the Geforce FX 5700 Ultra from MSI!
Whenever I run a 3d application my card isn't able to show the right colors ...!Furthermore, there are a lot of clipping errors ...
I tried for the Grafikcard the ForceWare 52.16 (the latest) and the Detonator 41.09!
I also flashed my bios (Board:A7V-133) and I have the latest via drivers for the mainboard!
As Direct X driver I use the 9.0b, the test of drirect Draw and direct3d are successful!
Is it possible that my board is too old for the videocard?!
    Thanks for your help!
    Greetings,h3r0

Well, after looking through the user manual (.pdf) I find it doesn't have one. booo hiss.  But I found the following at amdmb.com which may give you something to try.
    Quote
    AGP 4X Drive Strength
Default is Auto. Leave it on auto unless you need to change the AGP Drive Strength(see below), then set it to manual.
AGP Drive Strength P Ctrl "C" and AGP Drive Strength N Ctrl "E"
When AGP 4X Drive strength is set to manual you can choose settings of "0" "1" "2" ..."F". If you have an Nvidia based Geforce Video card, you can try changing this value to DA or EA to increase stability in games. These values are obtained by combining the individual values for the AGP Drive Strength P Ctrl "C" and AGP Drive Strength N Ctrl "E" settings. Once you get into the BIOS and see how this setting works it will become clearer.
    AGP Fast Write
Default value is Disabled. This feature enables the Fast Writes feature on the latest video cards for improved graphics performance.... many people find this feature to make the system unstable.
(Editors' note: I enable this option on my GeForce2 GTS 32DDR

  • FX 5700 Ultra - Final Fantasy XI

Just to get opinion, my video card, the nVidia 5700 Ultra should have NO trouble running Final Fantasy XI right?  I'm running it at high resolution, but I don't think it should have ANY trouble handling that.
I've had a number of posts on here trying to troubleshoot why my frames get a little jerky here and there, just trying to make sure that there's no "your card isn't powerful enough" kinda thing.  I would assume with the 5700 Ultra the frames would be pretty smooth all the time.

What he means is, if your monitor came with it's own software - install it. Some monitors need a little tweaking to perform to the higher standards of the latest video cards. If not, go to the advanced tab in display and you should be able to make finer adjustments there!

  • Where to buy MSI 5700 Ultra???

    Hey everyone,
I've decided to uprgrade my ATI Radeon 8500 LE card to the MSI 5700 Ultra.  I'm fairly certain this is a considerable upgrade for the money... If I could find a retailer that sells it! Most places I've found are selling the 5700 and not the Ultra. If any of you know where I can find the best prices (if they can be found on pricewatch or pricegrabber, I have overlooked) and online retailers, I would appreciate it!

Have you tried [http://www.newegg.com] I know they sell MSI FX cards!

  • Temp monitoring for 5700 ultra

ok..1st off..i dont have a msi vid card..i have a PnY..fx5700 ultra...card runs fine..no issues(cept for an occational..."power supply not plugged in")..but my question is this..in the Nvidia card properties area..theres a spot that monitors my card core temp..and its set at 129 celceus...which is not possible...my case would be on fire if it ever got that hot..what i want to know is there any way to manually set the temp warning to a setting of my choosing..i mailed pny about it..and believe it or not..there answer was"make sure your fans plugged in"lol
i sat in utter amazement at the respone they gave me

ok...thx alot...im sure they know better then i do...it just seemed to me that was a bit high...id like the option of setting it to a temp of my own..but i guess its not possible...and i wanted to return the card to the store i bought it from..but in a rare case(i always put comp part reciept in the box it came from) i lost it    ..i can return it through pny...but i dont wanna deal with the hassle right now..if it fails completely...then ill return it and put my ti4400 back in..once again..thank you

  • 5700 Ultra 3 - No ' msi clock' or ' msi info' tabs???

I have an FX5700 Ultra card from MSI with the original drivers that were supplied with it installed. Prob is that i used to have the 'MSI clock' and 'MSI information' tabs under display settings, and now they are gone?? I upgraded the nvidia drivers to Forceware drivers and all was fine, but then accidentally set the refresh rates for the adapter and monitor too high. I had to reboot in VGA mode, uninstall the drivers and reinstall the original supplied drivers on the MSI CD. Since then i have no MSI tabs under display settings?? Any suggestions?

man, if u wanna see the clock of the card, get a utilitary like rivatuner. it has a regfile which displays the clock . if u wanna see the clock displayed by msi and DOT, go to msi hp and get the latest driver from it. i recommend u to use http://www.nvidia.com latest drivers and use a utilitary to display your vga card clock.

  • 5700 Ultra with GDDR3 : 256-bit mem-interface???

    Hey guys,
this question is for the techno-geeks (like myself  ) in the hardware stuff, specifficaly about Vid Cards.
Well the question is the following:
The new Nvidia GeforceFX 5700 Utra cards with GDDR3 memory, that will start shipping in mid-march, will have 256-bit memory interface like the big guys (high-end cards) or will remain with the poor guys (low/mid-end cards) 128-bit interface??.
This is an important question that i need answered cause it will help me decide if i go for that card or an ATI one in the near future.
So plz guys, i would appreciate some replies here.
    Cheers.

As far as I know, the width of the memory interface for the GPU depends on the GPU design itself (i.e, with either a 128-bit or 256-bit data bus). So since they will be using the same GPU (NV36 I think), the card will continue to have a 128-bit width memory interface.

  • Noticing little dots and frame jumps with 5700 ultra

i notice this when playing Final Fantasy XI...
usually, when i first have started the game up, when i'm running through the town, it seems like it'll intermitently get "stuck" on a frame for a half a second or so if you know what i mean.  this usually clears up after i've been playing the game for a few minutes.  also, it's more likely to do this when i'm running through the "town" than when i am running through the woods/forest.
also, now and then, little white speckles will appear in the landscape, doesn't seem to effect the game, just noticed the little speckles.
is this stuff due to something with the CPU, or the VGA card?

My Antec 480 came with two 4-pin molex connectors, only for fans, you cant put any HD or optical device, or any other device. I put 2 fans in one connector and one more on the other. I guess there is some amperage control on this connectors, and you cant connect more than 3 fans/connector. There are 7 more 4-pin molex connectors to put your devices running. I'm satisfied with my PSU, Antec says it has special circuitry for each rail, so they are independent and more stable.  About noise? Nothing to blame, it is pure silent!
I edited later, check this very good thread about PSUs

  • 5700 ultra graphics card

I recently started to have a few problems with my card were the screen would go fuzzy for a few seconds and then clear up. Yesterday a started to defrag my HD and after 20 or so minutes the screen went fuzzy and stayed that way. I rebooted my computer several times and as soon as the computer went past the bios screen the sceen went again. I removed the card and reseated it as ive recently moved house and wondered if that could be the cause. On rebooting i dont even get the bios sceen popping up anly the bsod. The led at the rear indicates that its stopped on initialising the video interface.
Has my graphics card broken or can there be any onther reason.
Any help in this matter would be extremly appreciated.
    Sean

I have tried another card which when i boot to my sata drives indicates that it wasn't shut down correctly and asks do i want to boot in safe mode etc. When selecting any option my computer reboots itself and i go through the same process of booting to safe mode. If i boot to my other HDD, i boot up without a problem and the video card works. So now i know my cards had it i just have to try and resolve the boot up problem.
PS. when booting up on the non sata drive as my primary boot i still recognise my sata drives, thankfull for small mercies at least if i reformat i won't loose any infomation. Time to spend some money and get a decent card

  • FX-5700 Ultra - Problems since driver 56.63

    Hi,
I installed the 56.63 drivers yesterday and after rebooting my PC and re-setting the resolution, everything looked ok... started working on it... suddenly my monitor acts like I changed the resolution (switches between display modes with an internal 'clicking' sound, going to black, and returning to normal display mode) and this with recurring intervals of once every 10 seconds. The resolution or color-depth is not changed... everything stays the same as before.
I'm running a Windows 2000 Professional machine with 2 monitors in dual view. Tried to disable one monitor but that doesn't help. Played with the refresh rates but also no luck.
I can also notice when such a mode-switch is about to happen because just before it happens, nothing on that monitor seems to react on clicks of my mouse. The application or desktop on my other monitor is responding like normal. The responding monitor is not affected by this "mode-switching".
    ANybody an idea?
I could just uninstall the drivers and install the previous ones... they worked just fine... but if anybody has a suggestion, that would be great.
    TIA,
    Bart

I am also having problems with the driver. My monitor keeps going into sleep mode, and it is not set to do that, it deleted my media player, screen seems dark until I click on the Geforce2 mx/mx400 tab then it brightens to my settings, but when I restart it goes back to dim or dark. certain programs are locking up, and won't work together, Jeez all sorts of problems, I'm runnin Win 98se with a new ms-8817 vid card, and the latest 5655 9xme driver.
