5800 16gb Mem Card Problems!

Hi guys, I found out I'm not the only one with this problem so I thought I'd start a post here to try and bring some attention to the issue and get some idea of how widespread (or not) this problem is. The issue is to do with using a 16gb micro sdhc in a 5800 XM. The memory often gets corrupted, like after a few days of use, resulting in an inability to access the data on it through the phone's apps, eg, music won't show up, images/videos won't show up. The card will work ok in the PC, but not on the phone, the only way to fix it is to reformat the card, and obviously when you have about 10 gb of music and more of videos and images and apps it can become quite a problem.
So please contribute if you have a solution or if you are also suffering from this problem, thanks.

I have upgraded from v10 to v11 to v20 and they all have the same issue.  Also I am of the opinion that using the CONTACT US link on this site will be a waste of time either being told  that the issue is with our memory cards or we must return our phones for repair.. 
Considering several people have already said that they have similar issues and have all exhibited some technical knowledge regarding the issue.   I believe that the CONTACT US link will not get us a valid response as it will be going to first line support when in reality it needs to be escalated deeper!   I do not know of the best way for getting Nokia to either acknowledge there is an issue or tell us what is going on.  Until  there has been a fix that has been tested I am loathed to swap my 8gb for my 16gb as I am sick and tired of reinstalling due to corruption.
In summary there is a problem, several people are experiencing it and it needs fixing by Nokia or at least advising what is causing the issue.  At the end of the day we are the consumer and not the beta tester for the product and a fault like this should not have occured in the first instance.  We have all paid good money for the phone and it does say upto 16gb..... So it is either the cards, the firmware or the hardware in phone.  We need to know what is causing the issue and how they intend to fix it or what the workaround is.....event if it is use only 8gb.

If Nokia believe in their customers then they should be monitoring the forums and discussions like this.  We should not have to give them feedback or make suggestions via the contact us link - this is what these forums should be for.  As an IT professional, I have used similar forums with software suppliers who regularly look at their forums for issues and  provide support via them.  On this occasion I would expect the same service.
Personally, I will not bother using the CONTACT US link as I am intending to get the N97 so I can live with the issue as I know the cause.     My only worry is ifthe N97 will be out in june
It is just a real shame that hardware is released untested and there is no commitment to providing fixes frequently.  The Iphone 3G had network and battery issues and fixes have been released. There seems to be a sudden lack of this "knee jerk reaction" in the symbian camp as previous phones I have had such as the E90, N95 and Samsung Innov8 all have issues and took ages to get fixes. FYI, I have been a symbian user since the psion 3 days.  Anyway I will get off my soap box as this is another discussion.

  • 5800 micro sd card problem, wont turn on!

    Hello!
    After I uninstalled google maps (from my 16 gb memory card) my phone froze. I took out the battery and when I tried to
    turn it back on I got the white screen and then black screen with all lights on but the phone would not turn on. I changed to my 8gb memory card and now the phone works fine! If I change the card to 16 gb while the phone is on it freezes again.
    Is there anything I can do with my 16 gb card, can I format it or reset it within the phone?

    there might be a corrupted file in the memory card that prevent the phone from starting correctly.
    format the card using a pc, and then insert it to the phone and format it again. that should work.

    Well, as the topic reads...
    Last nite was the second time i lost ALL my messages.. I didnt even do anythign nasty with the mem card!...Just normal usage.. I had kept my sent messages limit to 20 msgs.. it showed 36 sent messages....
    So i cleared the sent folder..where 18 messages remained.. They were like unmovable, undeletable, unviewable.. RIDICULOUS.... Den, i changed the message storing opton to Chone mem... After changing BACK to mem card, ALL my msgs were gone...  Thereafter i checked my gallery, i found there were corrupted images.... 
    Only 1 option remained.. FLash the mem card.. So now i ask, is it Ok to store the messages in phone mem?

    Select phone memory mate! Messages take only a few kilobytes. Using the phone memory makes messaging more rapid.

  • I have a Mac Mini, and it won't accept connecting my Sony video camera.  So I got a SD mem card reader to unload my movies from.  It worked the first time I used it a few months ago.  This time it says it doesn't recognize the format I am trying to use?

    I have all thenecessary updates.  I have switched over from a PC to Mac back in April and have nad nothing but problems adapting.  I don't know why this worked the first time, and put my videos inti imovie, and now it doesn't recognize it at all.  And the Mem card reader does work, because I just put the SD card from my regular camera into it and it downloaded those fine, it just won't take my movies!

    Which sony camera? I have a Sony HDR-CX550 right now and have been able to use the SD card as well as connect the camera directly. I also had CX110 that work too. You may want to try to copy the complete top level folder from the SD card to the Hard drive, then try to "import from Camera archive" and select that folder.

    Well, If there are any updates available for your device (look here: http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/device-software-update/can-i-update), there could be a slight chance it would work. At least you could try before taking it to a Nokia carepoint. - You could always try to set it back to factory settings too, but I doubt it will be fixed.

  • NB200 - Not reading 16GB SDHC card

    Hi,
    When I insert SDHC into the NB200, autoplay starts up but then just keeps running on a loop and the mixed content box appears. Occasionally I've managed to see what's on the SDHC card if i click on 'view files' in the contents box but not always and even then autoplay just starts up again.
    Now I may be stupid but it's ok to use an sdhc card in an SD adapter? Does it have to be of the same make? I've downloaded both the hotfix and the sd reader driver but neither seem to work. PLEASE HELP!!!

    Hi chuckles123,
    Have you checked the user manual if your notebook supports 16GB SHDC card? This should be done firstly before you do such things
    If your notebook supports such cards, update the card reader driver and try different cards. By the way, which 16GB card is it exactly? I have good experience with SanDisk cards, never had problems with them.

  • N97 Mini Memory Card Problem

    I've been having a problem with my N97 Mini since installing a SanDisk 16Gb Memory Card.
    When switching on the phone it quite often reboots. It will then work fine.
    I also get 'memory full' or 'security module' errors. I can fix the issue by rebooting or ejecting the memory card in the file manager (even though I don't need to physically remove the memory card).
    If I remove the memory card it works fine and I can't reproduce the errors.
    I tried reformatting the card but it hasn't helped; even though it's blank.
    Could it be a problem with the phone hardware, the memory card or the firmware (I'm running v11 on vf uk)?

    So I've now switched to a Nokia memory card.
    It came in official Nokia packaging, however there's no markings on the memory card or included adaptor that it's made by (or for) Nokia. Having looked online I can see there are other examples of this.
    I did wonder if it was genuine!
    However it works much much better with my phone.
    The Security Module Error has completely gone, it very occasionally does the random reboot on startup, and gives a 'memory full' error, but I think this may be due to an issue with Ovi Maps and the amount of music I have on there.
    I will try (another) full reset just to make sure but otherwise the phone's now working well.

    my 16GB SDHC card mounts instantly in every other computer, but my MacBook Pro (early 2011 - Lion OS 10.7.2) does not see it.  I also have Windows 7 on this machine, and the SDHC card is not seen in Win 7 either.  Other SD cards mount with no problem.

    Some people have been able to use certain card readers even when it isn't read in the builtin card reader. Some other people have been able to get it to work by inserting it fully, then pulling it out very slightly, or not inserting it 100% of the way in.

  • HT204384 why does my 16gb SDHC card reads as full, but I can't see the files

    I have a SanDisk 30mb/s 16GB SDHC card used with a GoPro HD Hero. When I plug it into my card reader, it DOES show up on my desktop. When I double-click on it, I see the folders, but no files. I know the card is full, and it shows up as full when I press "command i".
    How can I get these files?!?

    You made the right choice, and is what I guessed was the case. But I've learned to confirm my assumptions; I've been surprised before.
    Anyway, hope you get somewhere with your IT folks. If you approach them from the standpoint that you can't ping the server and avoid, at least initially, the "can't mount the server volume" issue, you may have better luck with them. If you can get them to help you to the point where you get a ping through successfully, you may find the other problems go away.
    One note: it is possible that they've blocked the ability to ping their network devices, so the failure of the ping isn't completely diagnostic. But it's certainly a symptom to bring up with them; if they are blocking ping, they should tell you that.

    I would like to purchase a 16GB Microsd Card for my 8830. The 8830 is currently using a 4GB card with no problem on this Sprint phone. Will the 16GB card work on the 8830 - are there any issues with larger capacity cards?

    i inserted a 4gb mem card in my nokia 6120 classic. how can i tell if its working. also where do i go to see what has been saved on the memory card. and how do i save on the mem card.

    32GB will work BUT you need to format it to FAT32.
    Depending on what version of WIndows you have, you may need to get a third-party program or force it to format to FAT32.

    Also, the Sansa firmware was made before there were such large storage cards, and it may not be able to show all the files on the card if you have a whole lot of small files.
    That's because there is a limit on the size of the database, which reads information from the files--Artist, Album, Title, etc.--and makes an index from them. It will show thousands of songs, and I have filled a 32GB card and had it show every song.
    But...there is a character limit on the size of that index, and many people have run up against it.  It's not an exact number of files; every letter makes a difference, so if your Artist listing is Rolling Stones rather than The Rolling Stones you might be able to show a few more files.  
    You can see if you have that problem when you use the card because your listings (Album, Artist) will stop before the end of the alphabet.
    If you do have too many songs for the Sansa to show, you can get different firmware at www.rockbox.org  that can handle a much larger (possibly unlimited--I don't know) database. Read up on it before installing--it sits alongside the Sansa firmware so you can switch between them. 
     

  • MacBook Pro 15" video card problems (i think)

    Can anyone tell me if this is indeed a video card problem?

    This is what happened:
    I use my mbp heavily because I edit a lot of videos with Premiere. I also use lightroom / photoshop alot + games. I also installed Parallels desktop late 2013. I don't know if that is relevant but anyway. Everything started late 2013 (a little after installing parallels actually) when there are moments when the audio wouldn't work and I couldn't adjust the volume. It would come back anyway so i didn't mind it. Then the fans were on high speed for little activity. After that the keyboard backlight couldn't be adjusted and wouldnt work. I ignored all of these cuz i wasn't troubling me at the time. In January i left for france to study - I use bike all the time and once stupidly placed my laptop on the basket going to school (rough roads). I had a class with html so I had to open Parallels, my teacher pointed out the fans and how loud they were. That day, parallels desktop said i must upgrade to windows 9 or it will restart every 2hours. I didn't of course. I didn't have time to.
    After that (a few days later i think) my laptop would randomly turn into a black screen but it's still on (the power LED is on) I tried turning it off by pressing down the power button and then turning it back on. It worked the first time. During the first week, the frequency of it happening grew. It would do it almost 3 times a day. during that same week I tried to do an SMC reset. It fixed the keyboard light, fans and audio but not the black screen thing. It just keeps on happening around 1-3 times a day. It only happens when I'm using it btw, never when I just leave it. ALSO, after a few days, it would take longer hours to open my mbp again. I mean, the screen would turn black. i would turn it off, then on again. I will ONLY hear the hard drive moving but no startup sound and no grey screen and apple logo. nothing.
    The following weeks after that, I asked a friend to help me out. He suggested that I install gfxCardStatus because he said it might be my video card. He instructed that I keep it on intergrated only. So I installed that and did what he said I thought it worked for a while because the black screens stopped happening (even when gfx keeps on going back to dynamic) BUT NOW, MY LAPTOP WOULD FREEZE (not turn black). I'd shut it down using the power button but it still takes me hours to open it again. Sometimes, I'd wait for the battery to drain because it would startup when i charge it (sometimes)
    I tried doing AHT as well to confirm the video card problem, but the results are no problems found. I really don't want to replace my logicboard here in france. everything is more expensive here. ;__;
    Today I uninstalled parallels to see if that might have had anything to do with my problem now but i think that's just wishful thinking.
    Can somebody tell me if this is really about the video card? Thank you

    Your appointment at the genius Bar in an Apple Store (anywhere in the world) for an evaluation is FREE, in warranty or out. Those guys put their hands on these Macs all day every day, and they are especially good at Physical and Power problems.

    after a restart it works for a time, but always slow. I went to the Applestore this afternoon and the made a check and said it would be the logicboard and they would have to change it for CHF 600 and it would be ready in 10 - 15 days

  • Credit Card problem

    Hi,
    Due to to the Adobe securety problem, I requested a new credit card from my card provider and updated the payment details 24th of October.
    The card was debited by Adobe the 25th, but still, I get a warning when I start a CC app stating that there is a problem with the payment and CC will stop wotking in 13 days. Adobe has recieved my money so please fix this asap.

    After many,many, many  hours of trying I was finally not refused when trying to connect to your payment server (as a first time buyer). So I was asked for my credit card details for the purchase of an application - which I stated. But when I tried to confirm the purchase, my VISA card was refused twice due to "Credit card error". As I know there is nothing wrong with my credit card, please tell me what to do in order to purchase applications from the ovi store.  I don't want to pay many times over for an application which I never downloaded from OviStore. But I anyhow also tried my AmEx-card for the purchase of another app, but same "Credit-card" problem. To say that "I am not amused" with my OviStore experience so far must be the understatement of the century.

  • IMac not recognising Sandisk 16GB SDHC card

    Hello everyone
    having real difficulty downloading to iMovie content from my Canon Vixia HF100. The Sandisk VideoHD card I purchased will not under any circumstances be recognised by my iMac running 10.5.5. I even purchased a dedicated SDHC reader, but still to no avail. The only way, and then after much messing about, to get the video off the card is to directly connect the camera to the computer.
    Has there been any issues with this card that anyone knows of? Should I go back to a standard 16GB SDHC card?
