5800 Address Book Display
Hi, just got the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and was wondering if anybody knows how to change the address book display. In all my previous Nokia phones I have had the choice of displaying just Names, or Name & Number, but I cannot find any settings that allow me to change this in this phone. It just displays the names.

My address book display is not like the one shown. Why?
Have you tried resetting your sort option in Address Book / Preferences? Change it from whatever you have it (e.g. First Name) to the other choice. Then try to Search a contact. If it works, then go back in and reset it to what you had it before.

In address book, display address or other columns
I cannot figure out how to display additional fields/columns in address book. I can adjust size of existing fields but adding new fields is a puzzler.
Thanks so much. I guess I was clicking on the right mouse button, not the left.

Adding a Column to the Top of Address Book Display
I guess I have two problems in Address Book.
1. How do I add a custom field that is not on the list in "Template?" I want to add something called "show date" to all my address cards.
2. I want to have "show date" display at the top of the Address Book window in the middle column, where name is now shown. I'd like it to be Name, then Show Date, and be able to sort it by either one.
Any ideas? I won't be disappointed if it can't be done, but I thought I should check here just in case.
Thanks!
Tamara
Mac mini Mac OS X (10.4.3)whjk,
Select the bars - click once on the Chart and then click on one of the bars.
Open the Chart Inspector and click the Series button. Click on the Value Label Checkbox and then click on one of the Position buttons.
Feel free to download the Numbers User Guide and consult it. There's a link in the Help menu.

Addresses already in Address Book display in red in the TO field
When typing the start of a name (address) in any of TO, CC or BCC fields, names already in the Address Book, Thunderbird suggests options as usual but once a name is selected, it sometimes displays in red, sometimes in black, and sometimes start off in red and when I click on the one I want or press enter it ends up displaying in black.

I just updated to 4.5 on my 8310, ATT. Now my address book shows up as two lines instead of one. I prefer the single line. Can't find a way to get back to that. TIA.
Solved!
Go to Solution. That is the new address book view on OS 4.5... a new feature
You can't toggle that to a one line view. Sorry.

Changing How Address Book Displays Search Results
When I use Search in Address Book the result everytime shows as the bottom item in the resulting list with extraneous items above it. It seems to me that the items below the first result are more pertinent to my search, but they aren't displayed, I have to scroll down to see them. Is there a way to change that so that the top item is my first result and the items below it appear?
PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)That's an interesting question, so I tried it myself.
I found that all of the cards listed contained the search term, as expected, but the term was not necessarily in the name. So there seems to be no weighting given to the location of the search term (eg Finding it in the Notes could be less important than in the name). I can't disagree with this strategy.
Secondly, the found set of cards are listed in the normal order I'd defined in the preferences 'Sort by' option, again just as expected.
So the question returns as to why the result chooses the particular card it does. And the answer seems to be that the chosen card is the last one with the most matches.
I searched for St, and got many matchiing cards, and the chosen one had 3 occurences. I looked through the list, and there were a few other cards with 3 occurences of the match, but none with 4 occurences. So the chosen card was the last one with the most matches.
I then chose a card without a match and added some notes which had 4 occurences, and the following search for St then picked that card.
So you're actually getting what you have asked for (the last of the best matches). Its just unfortunate that generally the card you want is not the one with most matches.

How do get my address book to sort/display by Last Name?
I would like my Thunderbird Address Book to display by Last Name. How can I accomplish this?
In the Address Book, display the menu, then '''View|Show Name As…'''
then sort in the usual way.

Can I change Address Book's default setup?
I want to import my entire address book database from Palm Desktop to Apple Address Book (only about 5,000 entries in total).
I have several fields in the Palm Desktop database that don't match the Address Book default setup. In Address Book, I went to Card> Add Field> Edit Template but the changes I made there to the Template didn't actually seem to change anything in the actual Address Book display of addresses, even though I made several changes in the Edit Template function - it was as though the changes I made in the template editing function had no effect at all. The changes I made are still there when I revisit the Edit Template function but the additions and alterations don't show in the final address display.
1. Where did my changes to that Template go in respect to the actual display of the addresses?
2. Is there some way to apply my edited template to all the entries in Address Book in one fell swoop?
3. If not, then why have the Edit Template function at all?
I've done some trial runs using a tab-delimited file exported from Palm Desktop, which Address Book seems to import and work with happily... except for this inability to choose my edited template for the new entries - Address Book forces the new database into Address Book's own Template with none of my chosen changes. It's as though the template edit function is just for show but with no real functionality.
I hope this is all making sense...
This is an great time for me to make sweeping changes if necessary (if it is possible or if it helps) since I'm beginning a totally new database in Address Book from scratch.
Many thanks for any help.Paul,
I'm afraid you will loose some of your data that you can insert in your Palm when you transfer to AddressBook, but you can try to get in as much as possible. Especially the custom fields are much more flexible in Palm.
But in the end, the full integration of AB in your Mail and Calender, backup to .Mac etc. may offset these drawbacks.
When you set up a template, did you actually complete one address record?
If not, you should.
When you want to import to AB from a tab-delimited file, try this program
Addressbook Importer, an excellent piece of freeware that will do this for you.
In the top row before you import, make sure you have an address record that has all your customized fields completed in a way you know which field that is (you can do this in Palm, using the name A. AAA, address etc.)
Now when you use the importer, you can make sure wich field goes where.
Backup your Palm data well before you start experimenting. I wouldn't want to be the cause of you dropping 5000 records. Also, disable all syncing when you start. Once it works, make a backup from within the AB application. Then when all looks OK, you can start syncing using iSync instead of Hotsync. -
Apple Script to Sort through the Address Book
Dear All,
I am quite new to Apple and just a learner on Apple-scripts. Its been quite a task to learn.. I would require some help on a few things..
The script will eventually use numbers to send email and get the user inputs and any yet to reach there..
After going through lots of scripts to sort through the address book and make a clean address book, i found they are quite slow in processing takes about 20~30 Minutes to get through 2000 Contacts..
Hence after reading posting of Mr. Koenig & Mr. Hiroto and specifically on deep copy. I have written the following code which does the following on 2000 records within 6~8Mins.
The Script work its way through all the contact is the address List.. and creates Groups
1. Duplicate Email Id's — List of Contacts with same email ID's including Contacts where the email Id is entered twice.. (Strange.. Address Book Issue, copy of the email Id under work & home)
2. Duplicate Phone — List of Contacts with same Phone Numbers including Contacts where the Phone Nos is entered twice.
3. Duplicate Name — List of Contacts with Same Names
4. Duplicate No Name — List of Contacts without the First Name and Last Name
it also sort the Contacts under the following Group which you can edit later with all the information's..
1. Only Email Ids — List of Contacts with Email ID and No Phone Numbers
2. Only Phone — List of Contacts with Phone Numbers and No Email Id's
3. No Email or Phone — List of Contacts with No Email Id's and No Phone numbers (some half completed contacts )
My Question to the forum is why is the following code still taking too much time..
set onlyDupEList to every person of group theGroupEmail
repeat with j from 1 to count of Dup_email
set tempdata to item j of Dup_email
if onlyDupEList does not contain {tempdata} then add tempdata to group theGroupEmail
end repeat
save application "Address Book"
and the scripts slows down when the items in the list is quite large (over 800 or so )..
Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance..

Multiple values in a user record field and Address Book
Hi
I'm working out a method of importing multiple users into an LDAP directory on OS X 10.4.4, and I've hit an interesting snag.
When you export a user from Workgroup Manager, any fields in the user record that contain multiple values (multiple email addresses, work phone numbers, etc) contain their values separated by commas. For example:
username::::[email protected],[email protected]:::
However, when I view that LDAP entry in a networked Address Book, it only displays the first value, not the second or subsequent values. I've changed the Address Book template to specify multiple emails/phone numbers, but that doesn't do it.
If I create my own import file, and pull it into Workgroup Manager, they import correctly into the user record, so I don't think I'm doing anything wrong on the server side.
Does anyone know how to make Address Book display all the values?
Thanks
Mattif i'm not remembering read stuff wrong, these fileds have quite alot of limitations. and i think multiple values per field is such a limitation.

I own an imac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
My address book is written in the form:
Harry & Julie Jones
13 Canal Street
ROCHDALE
IM12 7PE
This arrangement suits me for all situations except one.
For the purpose of Christmas card addresses, and the printing thereof, I wish to have an address book display as:
Mr & Mrs H Jones
13 Canal Street
ROCHDALE
IM12 7PE
while still retaining the original Harry & Julie Jones display for other purposes.
Am I able to set up this additiional display in ADDRESS BOOK,
or will I have to set up the whole Mr & Mrs H Jones display in APPLEWORKS or something else?
Many thanks.Sig.
If I do it as a new Group (called 2011 Christmas cards), only Christmas Card addresses would be listed,
but they would still be displayed an the "Harry & Julie Jones" form, whereas I need it in the "Mr & Mrs H Jones" form. -
Desktop Manager fails to synch with Yahoo Address Book on my 8300
I have been synching both Yahoo Address Book and Yahoo Calendar successfully for months. Suddenly, Address Book no longer synchs. Yahoo calendar still works. The problem occurs aftew Desktop reads all the contacts. It halts while "Synchronization Progress...reading from Yahoo Address Book" displays. That message has displayed for up to an hour with no progress. I then disconnect and halt Desktop. I can still synch Yahoo Calendar. I have not updated desktop or device software. Anybody have any suggestions?
No Sync with Yahoo Address Book Workaround:
Work Around for Blackberry to Yahoo Sync when Address Book Sync Gets Stuck:
I've had the Address Book on my Yahoo Sync hang on two different occasions. The first time was late 2009 and the second was late Jan 2010. The first time the problem fixed itself. This time, no such luck yet. So if you are having the same problem, here's a work around that will allow you to update both your Yahoo and Blackberry Contacts and keep them in sync.
Step 1: From Yahoo, EXPORT your contacts to Windows Contacts (I did this in Vista and it also works for Windows 7 -- it should also work for XP, but the export may be a different expension). You will want to export using the 'vCard, Zip of .VCF files'. his will create a zip file of all your contacts with in the vcard format: (.VCF)
Step 2: Some manual labor in this step, but you will only have to do it once OR you can try a .vcf to .contact file converter program like:
http://www.vcardconverter.com/ that will cost you 19.95. Open each contact in the zip file. It will show you the contact data and there will be a button that you can click to ADD TO MY CONTACTS. Do this for each contact in the exported zip file. Or but the program.
You now have your Yahoo Address Book converted over to Window Contacts.
Step 3: In the Blackberry Desktop Manager change your synchronization setting for your address book from Yahoo to 'Window Address Book/Mail'. Leave the Calendar, MenoPad, and Task to sync with Yahoo. So you should have:
Calendar sync to Yahoo
MemoPad sync to Yahoo
Address Book sync to Windows Address Book/Mail
Task sync to Yahoo
Step 4: You now can perform a sync to you Blackberry Device. (But read the notes below first)
SOME IMPORTANT NOTES:
This allows you to get your contacts into your Blackberry and to sync them with your Windows Contacts. You can make this a three way sync where you also keep your Windows Contacts and Yahoo Address Book in sync. It just adds an extra sync. NOTE: If you are going to do this then pay the 20 bucks and buy the program above or find a program to convert .contact files to vcf (vcard) files. I've decided to buy the program above because it allows me to import and export all the contacts at one time, which is what you will need to use the import / export tools in Yahoo Contacts
I did the sync of the address book in steps. I was lucky / unlucky because I tried to do a Blackberry software upgrade that failed and it wiped out all of my contacts, calendar, tasks, and memos; so when I did my first sync, I when only from the Blackberry Desktop Manager to my Blackberry. I then changed my sync to be a two way sync. I only mention this because I don't know if going from Windows Contact to Blackberry would create duplicate entries in your Blackberry and Windows Contact Manager. Maybe someone can check this out and post. Anyway, I would suggest trying the sync with only a few contacts to check it out.
You don't need to worry about the folder that the Blackberry Desktop Manager will store the contacts. It assumes the 'Contacts' folder on you machine. As far as I could tell, there was no way to change this destination anyway.
ALTERNATIVE APPROACH:
If I was to do this all over, and I had my contacts still on my blackberry, I would most likely do the following (in theory):
Step 1.
Change the sync for contacts to be with Windows Address Book, not Yahoo.
Step 2.
Sync the contacts so they would appear in the Windows Contacts.
Step 3. Then worry about syncing Windows Contacts with Yahoo (see above)
Good luck, -
Address Book displaying "n's". What's up?
R.E. Smith and thousands of other users are frustrated with the insertion of "n" between duplicated NOTES fields in Address Book. If you had 10 lines of text in your NOTES field after iCloud did a sync cycle you would end up with two sets of the 10 lines with an "n" between the two. I have some address book entries with up to 6 duplicated sets of notes with "n" between each set of the duplicated lines. This behavior started when iCloud syncing of address book records was introduced. It seems to occur, for me, when I turn on iCloud on each device. Since I have an iPhone, iPad and 3 Macs, I end up with a lot of duplicated notes fields with "n's" in between.
I've learned to go into EDIT mode before touching the NOTES field to keep any sync actions from starting while I'm editing.
