5800: apps missing / won't run / "key icon" overla...

A few apps went missing on my 5800, also under Application manager. They're on the SD, and I think all Java. Some apps also started showing a small key icon overlayed at the corner of each app's icon. These apps can't be run.
A restart didn't help, nor a restart without the card and a live reinsertion. After another restart the key icon overlays disappeared but these apps still won't run. They could only be reinstalled after an uninstall, but those that disappeared are stuck in limbo.
Besides the above, one app that was preloaded on the card now has an empty icon, and after two restarts its name shows as a 9 digit number (see below). It can't be run.
All of this on firmware v31. As far as I can tell I didn't do anything to trigger it.
Are there any non-destructive ways to fix it?
Is there a way to use Symbian without all these strange problems popping up all the time (with the usual solution seemingly being total reset/format)?

ur symptoms lead to a diagnosis of corrupt memory card.. Have u installed any of those java programs from free game sites tht, while installin, says ur phone could be harmed? Coz those java games r a bit unstable on nokia5800.. I knw it shouldn't be.. But... It is.. Sometimes there's a read/write error and then they show key icons..
Whatever to solve this, do this..
Connect with computer
When asked choose mass storage mode
Open my computer
U'l find ur memory card listed
Right click, goto properties
There's an option for check disc for errors
Select tht and let it scan and fix errors
After u r done, see if u can uninstall those in limbo.
If not connect again in mass storage mode
Go to ur computer settings and as to show hidden files, and also show important windows files
Open ur memory card
U'l find a FOUND.000 folder.. Delete it
It's unusable by symbian os and it takes on space
Restore ur hidden file settings to normal.

Just updated to 2.0.1, now app's won't run!

I have several app's that worked perfectly with firmware V2.0.0, but won't run at all under firmeare V2.0.1. I select the app (for example 'Pandora'), it goes to the splash screen for a second or two, then returns to the iTouch top menu. Any idea what's wrong?

Actually, I'm not sure anymore what was going on. Like you, my apps's would stay open for about two seconds and then it would go back to the home screen. Deleting and re-installing Pandora did get some app's working, but not all. I then went through and uninstalled each app that didn't work, but discovered some couldn't be reinstalled. I did notice that some of the app's that I installed free were now charging money. Perhaps part of the problem is the app originator changed a flag here and there which effectively disabled the original release of the software... the equivalent of a trial period after which the program is deactivated.

Blackberry App World Won't Run After Download & Install

I'm using Blackberry Tour 9630, v4.7.1.40, on Verizon service in the US.
I downloaded Blackberry App World 1.1.0.20, using the Application Center Menu. After I installed App World, it prompted me to reboot my phone. Now the App Center Menu show that App World is installed, but when I try to open it I only get the App World screen with the Reinstall button. I have gone through the reinstall a couple of times but that doesn't help. An ideas how I can get App World to actually run??????????????????

Anyone know why App Store won't load all icons on my MacBook Pro and iPad but do on my iPhone when connected to the same wi-fi?

I have about 1/2 of the app store icons loading when accessing the store. The issue just started a few days ago. I have this issue on my MacBook pro and my iPad using the same router. Router checks out and I do have access to the Internet. Any ideas?

Open the Mac App Store on your MacBook Pro
Hold the Option key and click on “Purchases”
Hold the Option key and click on “OS X Lion” from the purchased app list
“Installed’ should now say “Install” which allows you to download OS X Lion.
This assumes you are using the same Apple ID on both computers.
Lion does not get installed on an iPad. It runs iOS.

5800 - Apps missing after restore

Hello,
After my phone refuses to start up after switching on, I had to take the memory card out so it can boot up normally, turned it off and reinsert the card and it booted up okay.
I did the back up yesterday - full back up, memory card including and reformat my card and phone.
However, after the restore - I noticed quite lots of my games and apps are missing, even the application manager shows them as installed. Where have they gone to? Also the game folder have disappeared, putting half of the games back to the App folder. The App Manager is also missing a few applications such as PaintPad.
What is happening to my phone? It's quite new. How do I get the installed applications that is missing from the application folder back in the folder?
EDIT: Oh, my memory card have changed its name to No Name. How do I rename that as well?

there are certain apps and themes and such that even if they show installed are really not, you need to reinstall those again. also NEVER update your phone with the memory card in it. that is a tip for the future. some apps that came with your phone like the iplayer are a one time deal some of them you can find on the internet and redownload and some you will have to purchase. if you reformat, update your phone that is what happens. sorry mate i know no joy here but its kind of how this works.

Some apps are marked with a key icon in the Collections list. What does it mean?

I have one signed app:
1. I first Downloaded through OTA (from the internet): result: I see the key icon on it
2. I then deleted the installaiton and installed the same app through the cable: Result: This time there is no key icon!!!?
So whats the deal with the phone? Does it selectively add the key icon as it wishes

Certain applications won't run

Certain applications won't run. Mail, Safari (I'm sending this with Firefox), and now Installer. The disc now verifies although I had to repair the disc earlier. This started when trash-emptying wouldn't complete. Disc Utility from the Tiger install disc found what it called a minor error - a file that was a little too big (don't remember the file) and free space a little too small. Here's the crash log when I try to run the 10.4.10 PPC combo update - after a hint I got in another thread about a problem like this. I believe the same file is mentioned for any of the apps that won't run. If you have any ideas how I should proceed, please let me know. Thanks, Joe

Well, it's this bad:
First off, a disclaimer. I didn't think of this, and I've not tried it from the DVD, though I did check the commands on a booted system. But it looks like it should work to me.
Okay, to use Terminal on the DVD, do this:
First, open up the disk image for the updater and copy the ".pkg" or ".mpkg" file onto your desktop, since that's an easy place to find it. Eject the disk image and make sure the package file stays on the desktop. Make a note of the package's exact name, including capitalization. You'll need it later. Now, open the Terminal on your Mac and type the following:
cd ~/Desktop; pwd
Write this path down somewhere, and keep in mind that case counts. It'll be something like "/Users/username/Desktop".
Now, take a look at the name of your hard drive. It's most likely something like "Macintosh HD". The main thing is to note any spaces in the name and note the name. I'm not sure whether auto-complete, and all the other good stuff, works in the Terminal on the DVD, so it's best to write these things down.
Now, boot from the Tiger Installer DVD and open up the Terminal app from the "Utilities" menu. Now, you need to construct a command to open up the installer package for the update package. Here's how it should look (without customization):
"/Volumes/Macintosh HD/usr/bin/open" -a /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/username/Desktop/MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.10PPC.pkg"
A couple of things to note: first, the quotes around the first part are necessary because of the space in "Macintosh HD", same with the last part. Also, it's possible that the installer will open up the OS X installer package from the DVD as well. Just be really sure you're installing the update and not the full OS. Also, make sure you customize the username in the last part, just before "Desktop".
Finally, if you've installed any updates after the 10.4.10 update (especially security updates), it's possible that the problem with the WebKit will not be fixed, since the 10.4.10 combo installer may not install the older version of the WebKit over the newer one. In that case, you might have to do the other updates that came after 10.4.10 to eventually get back to where you should be. And all this might be in vain if some other critical file is damaged, but hasn't been updated since 10.4.0.

App store won't open after running time machine reinstall

my HD crashed last week, got it replaced and just got my iMac back (20" intel). I ran a restore from my Time Machine backup from before the crash (took forever, but finished).
All looked fine but I found two problems...
1) Safari would crash without opening. I fixed that by just downloading and reinstalling Safari.
2) the App store does the same thing. the icon jumps a few times and then just stops and won't open. Unfortunately, it's part of the OS and it doesn't seem Apple allows direct downloads of the App Store app. I'm current on my OS so I'm not sure how to fix this problem.
Again, summary, restore from Time Machine, App Store won't open, OS is up-to-date. Any suggestions?

Install the v10.6.6 combo update available here. It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.6.6. The combo includes fixes that were not included in the original update.

Restart your Mac and try the MAS again.
You can download apps directly from the MAS once you have it running.
Considering the TM backup took so long, make sure there's enough space on your Mac startup disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.*

Applescript won't run as .app but runs fine in AppleScript Editor

I'm an experienced web developer.. but total applescript noob. so forgive me if this is a silly question.
I'm calling my script it from Flash via fscommand to launch a PDF using finder, rather than a browser.
The script works great from AppleScript Editor when i hit run but when saved as a .app it doesn't run.
any ideas?

A script application is actually an application bundle - a bundle is a kind of folder that gets treated like a single item (in this case, an application). Getting path to me results in a path that ends with a colon (since it is a folder), so when you try to use text item delimiters to get the container you are actually just stripping off the trailing colon, so the path built for your file won't point to the correct location.
As previously posted, the Finder can get the container, so you can just do everything in a tell application "Finder" statement:
