5800 back in the shop again

Sadly, even after a repair for Comm. problems, audio problems, I had to send the unit back because they simply are not solved. Specifically when I make a call with 5 bars signal, as soon as I hit send, the bars count down to one or none. I think dialing or talking causes some kind of power drain that affects the antenna reception. Also, sometimes, when I pick up a call, the caller cannot hear me and must call back. Lastly, even after a SIM card replacement, sometimes, when I dial, immediately NO ANSWER is displayed and the call is never connected.
The only thing that seems to work consistently is WIFI access. I hope this repair, or hopefully, a replacement, will perform properly.

Sad to hear that you are ahving problems with your 5800XM, but it is very likely to be something that doesn´t happen very often since I have a 580XM myself (and some of my friends do) and we´re not having any kind of prolem with it!
Let´s hope you can feel the same soon!
By clicking the "Kudos!" or the "Solution?" button on the right you can say "Thank You" and you´ll show the author and others that the post is useful.

  • Back from the shop...again

I love my iMac and wouldn't give it up for anything (well, maybe a quad).
My rev A had the main board replaced 4-5 months ago for the leaking capacitors. Almost immediately I noticed the milky white line that seems to be common in the lower left corner. I didn't want to take it in again so I lived with it.
Two weeks ago my computer started going dead randomly and it got progrssively worse. Back to the shop for a new power supply (leaking capacitor in it), and a new display to fix the white line.
All seems well so far. I have only had it since this morning though.
Just thought that I would post an update.

mwachel: My Rev A needed a new power supply about a month ago. I first smelled burning and a day later it went dead. Fortunately, I have an authorized reseller/warranty repair business locally and I got it back 3 days later.
What symptom did you experience that led you to know that your capacitors leaked? The repair guy checked my capacitors and said they were all ok. But I've noticed only what I can call a sort of "sizzle" sound every few moments which lasts for about 5 seconds and then goes away for a minute or two. You have to listen kinda close because it's rather low-pitched. I back up everything about every 10 days or so (all I add are itunes and occasional photos).
I hope you're good to go now for a long while. I think that if it soon happens again to you you might want to ask for a new computer. Three times in a year would qualify as a "lemon" if it was a car! walt

How do I back up the calendar and contacts from my iPhone5 to my new macbook pro(10.8.3)? I have backed up the phone, but it does not transfer the calendar or the contacts. If I check them in the sync area and then back up the phone again will they transfer or be erased? I am a bit gun shy since my previous macbook pro committed suicide and I lost a ton of info there.

Copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer.

  • I am having problems with the wifi connection on my ipad 4th generation only 3 weeks old. Have left it back to the shop i bought it in and they said they have to send it away now i am left with no ipad. What after sales support do you give really?

Does anyone else have problems with the wifi connection on their 4th generation  Mine keeps going off line and its only 3 weeks old.I had the ipad mini and this problem never existed. I brought it back to the shop where i bought it Expert Laois last week and they said they couldnt find a problem but had to take it back today as it keeps disconneting from wifi still, anyway they are sending it back for repair and it am left with no ipad.  After spending in excess of 700e i feel that this is really bad after sales service.  I bought something that i want to use now and cant so what  a waste of money it is .

Thankyou, but the shop said that they spoken to apple and that they have now changed their policy and that they do not give a replacement.  So are you telling me that their information is false.  Also what should they have done.  This problem has existed since i bought it.?????  What should i do?????

  • I bought an iPad 5 days before my mum did. My one set up from switching on. My mums what a nightmare had to take it back to the shop for them to down load iCloud. How can they sell 2 different products?

I bought an ipad2 5 days before my mum. Mine started to set up from the minute I switched it on. However my mums what a nightmare. After many hours of trying to solve the problem and searching the Internet we took it back to the shop. This one had to have iclouds downloaded from iTunes. Was told that they are the same?  When you looked at the boxes the discription on the back was different and mine had a tiny silver cloud sticker on it which ment it didn't have to down load th iOS soft ware from iTunes. I wish I had known at the time that there was 2types out there as I would have asked for my mums to be the same as mine. Not happy.

Sounds like one unit had iOS 5, the other had iOS 4. Unfortunately it happens that some units are shipped from the factory at different times with different Operatin Systems installed.

  • So, I've taken my panasonic printer back to the shop and exchenged it for a Canon MF-4430. Alas... the generic drivers do not make it print. Is it possible to get drivers to make this canon printer work with my lovely Mac Book Pro Snow Leopard, 6.8?

I could not find a MF-4430 at the Canon site. Are you sure the model is correct? They have a MF4450. The Mac drivers are here:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/imageclass _series/imageclass_mf4450#DriversAndSoftware
If you are sure you have a MF4430, look around the canon site for the drivers.

No.  You can turn your 6G Nano in to be recycled at your local Apple Store for a 10% discount towards the purchase of a new one. Otherwise, your only other option would be to sell the iPod on Craigslist or eBay and use the proceeds from the sale towards the purchase of the new 7G nano.

I Purchased the hobbit desolation of smaug, the download completes, but then starts from the beginning again, using up more data.

Okay, you need to contact support definitely about what's going on. Here is a form that will send an e-mail into support for you:

As far as the prices, the difference is likely the laptop version is the SD version and the iPad one is available in HD. That's the only reason you'll see a price difference. It has nothing to do with the device with movies/movie rentals. Apps yes, these no.

  • MBP in the shop again!!

I am posting this message because I'd like to see if others have had the same problem with their MBP. I bought the computer 2.5 years ago. Since I liked it so much my son bought a MB and my wife an iMac. My MBP worked flawlessly for the first 2 years. However, I have had problems with it the last several months as I have had to take it to Best Buy again for the 2nd time in 3 months. My problem is the computer wont start when I press the on button. The light will go on but nothing on the screen and no sounds of the disk spinning. It has been the same issue each time. The first time Best Buy replaced a controller card. Same thing happened this time. There is no warning of anything wrong.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? The computer is still under the Best But service agreement but is up soon and I will need to renew it. Not sure I want to because of the cost but I have had many problems recently. The computer is between 2.5 and 3 years old, but I have been dissatisfied because of the issues. I have 4 options:
    1) renew the service agreement for another 2 years
2)buy a new apple computer - not sure of MBP, iMac or Mac Pro as I do a lot of photography
    3)go back to PC
4)let the service agreement lapse and get a new computer the next time there is an issue.
My point is to determine if others have had a similar issue with the MBP not starting as I have stated this is an on going issue. It is frustrating and disappointed as I had assumed Apple had less of these types of issues because of the higher costs.
    Thanks

It sounds like there is a power delivery problem of some sort since you're not getting anything. I wonder if there could even be a problem with the power button or power button cable, although you do say that the light goes on. Do you mean the sleep light or some other light? When the upper case is removed, there should be two pads labeled "PWR BTN" on the logic board, which allow the computer to be turned on at the logic board for troubleshooting. BB should be able to see if the computer can be turned on this way. If it can, that might point towards a power button/cable problem.
There could also be a problem with the left I/O board, which is what contains the power port and enables the battery to charge.
Does the Mac boot from an external drive or a disc? Or just not at all? If it boots from an external drive, then possibly there is a problem with the SATA controller.
My Mac is very similar to yours, only it is the 17" version. I have never encountered the type of problem you are having. My guess is that there is some specific problem with yours that BB has so far failed to diagnose and fix. It could be a bad component or board, or it could even be a bad connection somewhere. If they can find the problem and fix it, you should be good to go. I'm inclined to think that whatever is wrong is not a particularly widespread problem with your model MPB since I haven't read of other people with this Mac having this particular problem.
Hopefully BB will be able to definitively diagnose your problem and solve it.
    Good luck!

  • How to Setup Multicast Address on Solaris 2.6 (Back to the well again)

              Basic Cluster Query,
Several weeks ago, I was thrashing about trying to verify the syntax for setting
up a multicast address on Solaris 2.6 in preparation for implementing Weblogic
6.0 clustering. The command syntax was:
              ifconfig {interface}:{virtual#} plumb
              ifconfig {interface}:{virtual#} {multicast_address} up
The commands succeeded on the first and second servers without errors, but unbeknownst
to me there were errors reported on the second host concerning duplicate address.
              The errors were:
unix: WARNING: IP: Hardware address '08:00:20:a6:ed:0a'
trying to be our address 237.000.000.008!
The server halted today after several weeks; however, it is not clear whether
the multicast address caused the halt. Neither Weblogic nor Sun documentation
have been helpful. Can anyone provide guidance on setting up multicast address
              on Solaris 2.6?
              Bewildered,
              Dan

    Dan,
I don't think that BEA specifically takes any stand regarding the
configuration of operating systems. The problem is that the
administration of Unix machines and networking is a very complex and
sensitive subject for most companies (e.g., they have entire departments
dedicated to this) and BEA tries not to enforce any more configuration
              specifications than it has to.
With regards to multicast, most newer versions of the major operating
systems (including Solaris) have support for multicast turned on "out of
the box". However, it is possible for your administrator to muck around
with your machine's network settings so that multicast does not work
properly or is disabled entirely. Most people in BEA support do not
know enough about low-level Unix TCP/IP administration to be able to
properly guide you to "configure multicast" if it is not working
properly. Even if they did, we wouldn't know what your administrator
might have done or why they did what they did so it is generally best to
get your Unix administrators involved because they really (should) have
the knowledge of the machine's configuration.
We do, however, provide a Java utility program called
utils.MulticastTest that can help you to determine whether or not
multicast is working correctly on your machine.
              Hope this helps,
              Robert

  • Pages that are shown in the status bar are docked to the right instead of the left..how can I make them go back to the left again?

A couple weeks ago my computer did an automatic update to a newer version of Firefox (it is now 3.6.8). Since this update, every time I open a window, it is docked to the right side of the status bar, when it used to be on the lleft side of the status bar. Also, several windows opened do not all show-instead only one window is shown and it will say how ever many windows I have opened (such as "3 firefox windows" instead of just showing those 3 different windows when it was docked to the left side). I have looked through the help section but cannot find an answer to this. I have looked through the "tools", then "options" section and compared my computer to another computer running the same firefox that has the windows opened docked to the left, and they both have the same exact settings, so it doesn't appear to be an issue with my "options" in firefox. Any help would be appreciated.

The problem corrected itself,....i tried to delete the post but could not do it.

  • G5 keeps freezing. Even after we had it "repaired" at the shop.

We have a Dual 2.5 G5. It started freezing and having problems so we took it to the local Apple Authorized Repair Center. They said it was either the logic board or the processor(s). Took them a couple weeks to find a new motherboard and they installed that and said it was fixed.
I get it and take it back to the shop and plug it in. Fans are all running WAY too high (and loud). I figure, oh well, at least it works. Well, then it freezes up the next day. I reboot and it works for a few ours and then freezes. I do the same and it freezes after a couple hours. I turn it off over night and the next day, I turn it on and it runs for a little while and then freezes. I take it back to the shop. The guy says he's run all the tests on it and the software keeps coming back saying everything is fine. He has it for about a month, fails to call and let me know he's "fixed" it so I call and they said its ready to pick up.
The tech sheet said that it runs fine but the fans are running a bit loud.
I get it back and yea, the fans are still running loud but at least it works. WRONG. Couple hours go by and it freezes.
BTW. When it does freeze, then all the fans kick go up slowly to like 100%. Sounds like a jet engine in here when it does that.
So, any ideas? We paid about $500 for the new logic board and installation.

If the shop is in any way reliable, they should take it back and work on it again. They have to stand behind there work.
As far as power goes, I doubt it seriously.
