5800 em charger defect?

The charger (2 months use) which comes with the 5800 em is not charging the battery to full load (in fact on more than 2 occassions, the charging stopped and battery life registers only 1 bar! I bought a second battery and the effect is the same. However, when using another Nokia charger, the battery is charged to full.
Is there anything I could do to check the original charger if it's damaged. I tried to bring it to the care centre and the customer service staff says I must leave the charger, the battery and the phone with them so that they can test it, claiming company procedure!!!??? I can't understand why they can't just test the charger.

You could check the charger with some other device, but I would monitor the charging carefully and check if the charger get heated up.
I cannot give you any other advice except from that or leaving it at the nokia care point, as I am no electrician.
If youre sure that it's the charger, and you have spare chargers for your phone, I personally would just throw away the damaged charger. - But as I mentioned I cannot tell you for sure, and whenever I have problems with my phones or something else that has to do with issues like that - especially if things starts to smell toasted, I would leave it to professionals.

Nokia 5800 Mains Charger N-Series

I recently bought a Nokia 5800 Mains Charger N-Series. I plugged it into my phone (a Nokia N73) and it began charging for around 30 seconds.
After this time it stopped charging my phone. I fiddled around with it but it wouldn't begin charging my phone again.
I then tried using the charger on my brother's Nokia phone and the same thing happened. It charged for 30 seconds and then wouldn't start again.
The main issue is that now I cannot charge my phone or my brother's phone at all. I used two different chargers on these phones (both of which worked fine previously) but they won't charge our phones at all.
I would really appreciate some help with this matter since both my phone and my brother's phone are out of action completely. All this from buying a phone charger which was supposed to be compatible with my N73 seems to now have ruined the phone.

So will your phone and your brothers phone charge using the original charger that came with your phone anymore? If it doesn't than you have probably damaged your phones by using the faulty charger.
If that is the case then I think you already know what the solution. We can only help you with settings and software issues here. Anything else that involves hardware and replacement parts can only be fixed by a Nokia Care Point. As for the charger, you need to take it up with Play.com

5800 xpressmusic charging

Hi..
Just got the 5800 xpressmusic and was looking up info on the recommended no of hrs for initial charge and unfortunately couldn't find anything in the guide or discussion..
Searched on the net and some said 8-12hrs and others say till the battery bars are full..
Pls do help me out..

You only need to charge it until the battery indicator says that it is full.
Modern phones do not need to be left charging for many hours like older phones needed to be.

5800 firmware v4.0.0.5 problem: will not turn off ...

the stupid firmware had some bug.
once the keypad is locked, try to charge your phone by plugging in the charger.
The screen will light up and it will NEVER turn off unless you unlock the keypad.
this is wasting batery.

listing files in Settings/App mgr/Installation files takes way too long too
The screen won't turn off when you plugged the power. Same that it won't turn off after you unplugged from power.
Applications cannot be uninstalled. It says "Unable to start the installer" or something like that the radio application could not be quitted
The new SW update doesn't allow me to install updates. It just says fail...
Most of the time, the music player cant be closed and the song will show right on the home screen. my screen backlight also not go off when plug in or unplug the charger

In Messaging, message won't open on tapping ! The message seems selected, and doesn't respond to tapping(single or double) ... then options for message also doesn't open, only option is to exit messaging

Serious Problem after update my 5800 with 40.0.005...

Yesterday,I updated my 5800 with FW 40.0.005. I really impressed with the new easy way of move in touch screen but this version has a big problem that I considered.
First,you have to set as a ring an .mp4 file or any video file and then lock your mobile 5800.
When you have an incomming call the screen isn't working normally and it stops for miliseconds and starts again!
When it happens the power of mobile increasing sharply and I am upset what it could happen if the call continue too much.
Please somebody check it as soon as possible because it may do harm to our mobile by any explosion from this problem!
For temporary solution a suggest not to set video files as a ringtone and if you want to do this don't lock your mobile which helps the video file to work normally.

Nokia Lumia 735- supplied charger problem

Hello
Got my nokia lumia 735 for about 2 weeks now and since a couple of days I have problems with the supplied charger. (never occured before)
When I plug in the charger into the lumia, the charging symbol is shown. However, it charges for 20% in a whole night, if I am lucky. If I use a usb cable and connect it with a pc, it charges quite fast.
Is my charger defective? Am I doing things wrong?

Verizon Galaxy Nexus - Defective Charging Port

Bought my Galaxy Nexus in April of 2012, along with insurance on the phone. Love the phone and the pure Android experience. However, back in February, I woke up one morning and noticed that even though my phone was plugged in, the battery was not charging. I tried using different cords and my spare battery, neither fixed the issue, which meant that the charging port on the phone was defective. I brought it to a VZW store, and since the issue occurred within a year of purchasing the phone, they sent me a certified pre-owned galaxy nexus as a replacement (They had to send me three replacement phones total because the first two would not boot properly, but that's a different story.)
So here I am, 5 months later, and I woke up one morning and discover the same issue. Phone is plugged in (using the original charger that come with the original phone by the way), but it is not charging. Won't charge with a different cord, won't charge with a different battery, which means that the port is defective. I take the phone to the Verizon store, and am informed that A) my year-long warranty has run out, so if I want to replace the phone I will have to pay full retail price for it, and B) The default insurance plan on these phones only covers cracked screens or lost devices. The VZW support rep actually suggested that I damage the screen on the phone before sending it to the insurance company, because otherwise they would send it back and refuse to replace it.
So to recap, Verizon sold me a defective device, replaced it with another defective device, and now in order to fulfill the remaining nine months of my contract with them, I will have to purchase another device at full retail value. That's $600-$700 I'm expected to pay just to continue adhering to the terms of my contract. For now, I went on amazon and bought an external battery charger which I now have to carry with me at all times, which is an unacceptable solution for the next nine months. Surely there has to be a better option?

This is the same problem I had in the past and Samsung fixed the phone
under warranty. Since a warranty is only 1 year and not the length of the
contract it doesn't help anymore. I do not have insurance and the phone
has never been wet. I have to wiggle the port or reset something on the
connect to have it charge properly. Verizon was unwilling to help me the
last time I had this issue since I purchased the phone new from Amazon. I

Nokia 5800 - keep screen on when charging?

Is there a way to keep the screen of the Nokia 5800 turned on when the phone is plugged into a charger. This functionality was available on many older generation (non-Symbian) Nokia phones, but I can't find such a setting on the 5800.
Similarly, it would be useful to have a way to keep the phone unlocked when it is plugged into a charger.

5800 Charging problem?

Hi everyone,
I recieved my 5800 on Tuesday, I charged it up fine then, but the next day it needed charging again and the phone wouldn't recognise I had put the charger in...
I left it and phoned the company I got it from and they have sent a new charger which I should have soon. I tried charging it again today and it recognised it. I left it to charge for a bit as the battery was dead and I wanted to make sure it still turned on and it did (it is a bit slow now though when loading the menu...). after it turned on ok, I decided to take the charger out of the phone a few times and put it back in again, just to make sure it was working properly and it wouldn't recognise it again
Is this common? Do you think it's likly to be the charger or the battery? It couldn't be something else could it?

Hey, i had my Nokia 5800 at the start of the summer and 2 weeks after it wouldnt charge so i took it back to the shop. they sent out a new one , something about a faulty battery , now in October , i left it on all night in case of an emergency text msg ... say 1:30 in the afternoon i started to use it again clicking the menu button ; however the screen went black i tried the lock keys but nothing happend so i put it on charge and no reasponce . now after 6 attemps on 2 differnt chargers the white nokia screen has come up ... any ideas why it has behaved in this manor ?

GPS LD-3W and nokia 5800 charger

hi , i have a nokia 5800 and a wireless gps module ( LD-3W) .
in bundle for Gps i received a DC-4 car charger but i need also charge GPS module at home .
May i use the nokia 5800 charger for this ?

My 5530 charger works fine charging the LD-3W; its because nokia only every 1 of 2 chargers the large tip or the small tip.
Yes the LD-3W works really well and except for the LD-3W having some extra battery life I heard that the 3w and 4w are really quite similar.
I am not too sure on the specs of them for accuracy and positioning but when i use mine it updates quite quickly (with only little jumps while in my car) and it gets the right position all the time.
I believe the LD-4W should work fine with the 5530 also.
And if you do not have nokia/ovi maps then you should get it. Its free and it has full navigation now.

Its up to you but I just choose download from pc which is at the bottom as it wont cost you data charges etc for using you mobile.
++Next install the app on your phone
++Now thats it just install ovi suite from here;

and choose what maps you want to download and by choosing update you can check your app is up to date.

GPS charges on 5800???

Hi, I have just installed a 16 day free trial of Viewranger on my 5800 for use when I am out Mountain Biking to log my route and use as a map. Obviously for this to be effective, I have to have the GPS running. What I want to know because 02 CAN NOT give a guarenteed answer is, will I get charged for having the GPS running while I am out on a ride for about 2 hours? I have unlimited internet (browsing, 02 active) if that makes any difference?

Assisted GPS feature only needs to download 2-5 kbs of data for a positional fix, so can't you check in phone log the amount of data downloaded in say 30 minutes and I am sure that you will find it negligible. As "grschinon" has mentioned o2 can't discriminate what type of data you are downloading and you could always disable "Assisted GPS" feature in "Positioning methods" as ViewRanger doesn't need internet connection unless you are utilizing Buddy Beacon"

When i charge my Ipad, the adaptor for charging always appears to be so hot. Does this generally occur? Or is my adaptor defected?. What can I do to fix the problem?

mine is as well safe to touch but i think it's abnormally hot because I've tried changing the adator. It appeared that using another one ,which belongs to my ipod touch,is warm but way cooler than the original one itself. That is the reason why I think my ipad charger is way defected. If i continue use that ipad charger, will my ipad battery life be affected by that?

I currently own a nokia 5800 and just recently it has broken completely not as in smashed up but i suspect a software problem because it will not do anything... wont charge, wont turn on, wont anything. Ive looked around the net and tried everything including hard reset but nothing has worked. Anyone else had this problem? So i was wondering... what should i do?? Am i able to send it off somewhere? Pleeeeeeaase help im dying without my music and texts.

Battery of 5800 charges and discharges very quickl...

Since a few months I have to recharge my 5800 1-2 times a day and the recharge takes only one hour instead of the usual 4 hours.
I replaced the battery (BL-5J) twice with an original Nokia one but a new battery has the same problem.
It seems that the formware after V30 interprets too early that the battery is fully charged.
I took out the battery and measured the voltage (without load) of the battery:
After the phone says 'Charging complete' : 4.0 V
After the 'Battery low' popup on the phone 3.4 V
Nomially it is rated 3.7 V and at beginning of charging the ammeter shows 800mA, so 1.3 Ah takes at least two hours to charge with constant current and even more with constant voltage.
What can be the problem here ?
When that is the case

Try to calibrate it.
1. Run the battery empty.
2. Charge it without turning the phone on.
3. Once battery full, turn it on, and try to charge again until you get the full warning.
4. Let the battery run till dry again
5.Charge without turning the phone on
6. Boot then charge to full
Battery should be calibrated by then,.
