5800 email beep

Every time I get a new email the phone beeps, even though the option "E-mail alert tone" in the meeting profile I am using is set to "off".

I am also experiencing very similar problems.
My 5800 happily connects and retrieves new email headers from my (sky)Gmail server. However, any email headers that are in my phones inbox are automatically deleted, even if they haven’t been read. This is obviously extremely annoying. Any Help appreciated. 
My phone is running Software version V20.0.012

    I am having problems with my 5800 email client. I set my Gmail POP mailbox and configured my account so that the server only sends me messages received after the day I got my phone. Everything seemed to work fine unitl yesterday, Now I can't receive messages while connected  (I have to reconnect every time I want to receive new messages) and the phone deletes all the old emails (even those that have not been read).
    I hope someone could help me with this problem.

  • 5800: Email Language "Conversion"

    Hi All,
    I'm a new owner of the 5800 (all s/w updated) after using BB, Palm, etc.
    I've found an odd email issue that has never been a problem with other brands I've owned. I work for a Chinese company. Many of my emails are written in both English and Chinese.
    When I recieve an email that has a Chinese symbol in it, the email won't totally open (shows header). A small pop-up tells me it can't be converted. (I don't want it translated, only to open so I can read English).
    My previous brands open the email just as it would in Outlook: shows both English and Chinese symbols.
    Any help on this would be appreciated.

    I checked with Nokia Care. They won't do a patch to correct this problem because it is a US version (I reside in the US).
    I did discover a way to view the email with Chinese: the header has an attachment which I clicked on just to see what would happen. To my delight, it changes the view of the email and shows the entire body of the message.
    That's not the ideal solution, but I can work around it.

  • 5800 email to phone number

    This might be a long shot, but I'm hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction.
    I bought a Nokia 5800 Music Xpress and I use it with T-Mobiles prepaid plan. I can't receive email sent to my phone number (using my10 digit number @tmomail.net). T-Mobile's tier 2 tech support says it should work and even emailed me a couple of messages that I was able to receive. When I or my coworkers try it from multiple email accounts (Yahoo, AOL, my work account via Outlook) it doesn't work.
    I don't know if this matters (I'm a total n00b when it comes to this type of phone) but I had tried to donate to the red cross using 90999 but was having trouble with that, and T-Mobile tech support said I had to put a plus sign before the number, which my friends tell me isn't normal. I've tried different variations of my number (including the plus, or a 1 or both, etc.) with no luck. Oddly, we never receive any bounce back messages saying that email address doesn't exist. 
    If anyone has any tips or anything, I'd be eternally grateful. I want to be able to get messages from my mom whose health is declining, but she doesn't have a cell phone and she doesn't want to have to learn any of this new-fangled technology **bleep** at her age, dammit! 

    T-mobile seems to have a lot of problems supporting s60v5. First MMS issues now this. However, the difference between the emails from your co-workers and that from t-mobile is likely that they are using the same network. First try your friends to email you using T-mobile service (their phones). If it works, its likely a T-mobile problem supporting s60v5 again.

    Hi, I've recently become the owner of a 5800 and have set the phone to receive emails from my broadband ISP (Virgin media) via our home WiFi. I can download messages, read and send messages without any problems, but when I disconnect and then later reconnect to retrieve other message the ones on my phone disappear. The deletd email messages are available on the server as I can access them when I log on to my email account online. How can I stop this from happening?

  • 5800 Email setup wizard use data connection withou...

    While setting up my email account on 5800xm through Messaging>Options>Settings>Email, the email setup wizard automatically opens. After defining the email address and password, the wizard automatically attempt to connect through 3g data connection to retrieve the email settings. Why is there no options to choose which connection to retrieve the email account settings?
     Does anyone expereince the same problem? How can i change this?

    It seems to have worked on my 5800 Xpress.  To decode the advice, two icons regarding the email setup were on my screen, one for email and one for email set up.  The email set up was in pink.  I pressed the white button to get the Organise, went in , selected the pink email set up icon and Removed it.  Now both icons are gone.  We will see tomorrow morning if I get the annoying message again asking me to go on the network.  Think it is sorted. I suspect that accidentaly starting the proceedure keeps it hanging around in the background.

    My 5800 crashed last week and the nokia repair shop sorted it but since then my email wont sync. I've added my account again and it synced then but since then it says it is syncing and it says it was succesful but it doesn't download the Emails. Any ideas?

    What client are you using? default? MSE? nokia email?

  • Nokia 5800 email automatic retrieval

    Hi everyone.
    I am trying to set up my email so that they are retrieved automatically every 2 hours. The problem is that it works only when I set my home connection on the email account and not the default option. That means that when I am home it works fine but when I leave home and go to somewhere else with an open wifi or another known wifi it cant update, not even manually! It says it cant find the WLAN.
    This is not very convinient since I move around alot and so the only way to work with my email is to have default option for the mail account wifi connection and retrieve them manually.
    Is there something I am doing wrong? 
    I have also set up most of my wifi connections from the destinations menu "use access point:automatically".
    PS also have the RSS unknown error when trying to open web feeds....

    on s60v3 fp2 devices there is the possibility to create connection groups. then you have a new "connection" f.e. "my connection group" that has to be selected in the programs and this connection group handels to try wifi at first and gprs/3g at second. i think the 5800 doesnt have connection groups so you have so search for a program that works on s60v5 like Psiloc Connect or BirdStep SmartConnect.

  • Old 5800 email setup not nokia email programme.

    hi there (first post here!!!)  i have a 5800 V50.0.005 and ages ago on my old software (prob v31 iirc) i had email setup like text messages.   when i clicked messages i have 'hotmail' under the text message inbox but now its stopped working and every time i try and setup email again it loads and installs 'nokia email' programme which i find useless!
    I did set it up (3 times) and told it to send and recieve every hour like i did before and it just does not work!!!   if i send an email it will send hours sometimes days later and even if i click 'sync' it still does not do anything, it goes online but does not seem to sync. same with recieving, works when it wants - useless!!!!
    All I want is it to work like it did before with my hotmail folder in my messages. (v31)   Is this poss on V50 or can u reccomend an email programme for it that works!?!

    dear, ive recently reseted my nokia 5800 and deleted everything..including my email applic.tion-not the one found under mesage settinp but found on application. How can i download it as all that ive downloaded deducts my data bundle bt when i open they they say...unable to open.

  • Nokia 5800 Emails Faxes and messages prob

    Hello all
    I've had my Nokia 5800 for about a month or so now. When i first got it it was all good, the phone randomly restarted once and after that, up in the right corner it says i have new messages, faxes and emails. I didnt connect my email with my phone, nor do i have any fax related info. Also the message icon that is appearing is different than the one of the text message pic. I was just wondering is there any way to remove these?

    This icon indicates that the SIM card's own text message storage is full. This doesn't actually cause problems on the 5800 because it stores its messages in the phone's own memory, but the envelope can look a bit annoying.
    To get rid of the flashing envelope:
    On the standby screen press the white menu button.
    Select "Messaging"
    Select "Options"
    Select "SIM Messages"
    Delete some or all of the messages from the SIM messages folder using the Options menu.
    This should make the flashing envelope go away. You only have to do this once because when the SIM card is emptied it won't fill any more, as the 5800 does not store messages on SIM cards.

  • 5800 xm beeping at end of call

    Hi, this is my first post so be gentle!  Ok, iv just recently bought a nokia 5800 and iv got this awful problem with beeping.  At the end of every call when the other person disconnects the call i get a constant beeping for about 7-8 seconds.  It must beep about 20 times. Also when someone rings me and i don't answer, as soon as the person disconnects i get a beep agin, but its just one beep this time and it comes from the ear piece, not the speakers.  I am confident this is nothing to do with profile setting or anything like that.  Tried updating firmware to version 20 but with software updater it says i have the newest version (11.0.009)
    Can anyone help me owt?

    I would be willing to guarantee you that everyone has this very issue, but most people never notice because they do not use a bluetooth earpiece or bluetooth speakerphone. I do. I noticed it immediately. There also used to be present a very loud, high-pitched connect beep that has since been removed.
    Bug report:
    The Nokia 5800 with all recent versions of firmware displays the following behavior when a call ended by the other caller or the network ends/drops the call:  The word "Disconnected" appears on the screen for about 6 seconds and a set of 13 beeps presented to the user via the speakers or bluetooth (or both, but this requires further verification).
    Expected results:
    The 5800 should display "Disconnected" for a couple seconds and beep once or twice if the originating caller or the network ends/drops the call.
    Actual results:
    The 5800 displays "Disconnected" for about 6 seconds, and beeps 13 times if the originating caller or the network ends/drops the call.
    Steps to reproduce without bluetooth connected:
    1. Call the 5800 from another phone.
    2. When the 5800 rings, press the answer button.
    3. Disconnect the call from the originating phone. Do not touch any buttons on the 5800.
    4. The word "disconnected" will appear in red on the display for approximately 6 seconds.
    5. During the 6 seconds that "disconnected" appears on the display, the 13 beeps will be heard through the 5800's stereo speakers. The sound can be very faint, but it is present.
    Steps to reproduce with bluetooth connected:
    1. Ensure that your bluetooth device is connected and working properly.
    2. Call the 5800 from another phone.
    3. When the 5800 rings, press the answer button on the bluetooth device.
    4. Disconnect the call from the originating phone. Do not touch any buttons on the 5800.
    4. The word "disconnected" will appear in red on the display for approximately 6 seconds.
    5. During the 6 seconds that "disconnected" appears on the display, the 13 beeps will be heard on the bluetooth device. The beeps may also be heard through the 5800's stereo speakers at the same time. However, I have not verified this.
    Note about bluetooth: The "end call" tone (if the bluetooth device being tested has one) will not sound until after the tones complete.
    Feature change request:
    1. Reduce the display of "Disconnected" from six seconds. One second is sufficient.
    2. Either remove the beeps entirely, or reduce the number to one or two.
    End of bug report.
    Now for the rant. Why is it that "customer service" cannot seem to wrap their heads around the fact that the issue we are all experiencing is a correctable software feature, and not the phone hardware?? I just got off the phone with support after asking for this beep on disconnect "feature" to be removed for the FOURTH time in as many firmware updates. Their only "solution" is to send in your phone for "repair". They will not take a feature change request.
    Since Nokia seemingly does not value my input about their products, this will be my LAST Nokia device.

  • 5800 email issue

    This has to be the buggiest phone ever!!!
    I have Nokia Email (@) installed for my personal email (4 accounts) and MfE for my work email (one account).  Everything was working just fine and for no apparent reason, I cannot open the email account (personal) that I had the Homescreen notification set to.  I can open the other accounts just fine but when I choose that particular account the app just closes.  I have tried selecting a different account for the notification and it seems to work fine, it's just that account.  It was working fine an hour ago and now it doesn't.  Nothing has changed in the last hour.  If it aint one thing it's another.  

    I think the issue is partly resolved.  I deleted the email address and set it up again and now it doesn't shut down the app when opening that mailbox.  But...now it doesn't seem to be receiving mail into that mailbox...I have sent several messages and even hit the send and receive button.  I confirmed that the messages are going in to the actual mailbox (web) but not to the phone.  Oh wait...now none of my accounts are working.  Just sent a message to all for accounts and none are working now.  The messages are in all for accounts (web) but none have updated on the phone.  Will try re-installing the app later.  There has to be light at the end of this tunnel...   Has anybody else had this problem?

  • 5800 email notifications

    Anybody else having the same problem -
    I download new email headers either automatically, or by connecting to my two mailboxes individually, the email notification on the home screen appears and won't go away - the flashing white button keeps going too - and won't go until I've downloaded and read / deleted every email.  I've tried switching off 'new email notifications' but all it does is stop the message coming up on the home screen - the icon still pops up and the button still flashes!
    It used to do this and then go away if I started and then cancelled downloading one of the emails - letting it know I'd got the message, but now won't go away until they're all downloaded and read, or after a reboot.

    Thank you, razmee209!  I must have checked everything 1,000,000 times, but when I just rechecked settings - notification - mail, I now see that Alerts -- both Show in Notification Center and Show on Lock Screen -- were turned off.  Can't believe I missed that, so THANK YOU!

  • 5800 email set up problem

    error message - "service provider unknown. check email address."
    The phone doesn't recognise sky.com as an email provider.  How do I get round this ?

    If you have Nokia messaging, I believe that sets up imap, I only use the standard email client and am happy with pop email. You can also use Emoze, which is free !
