5800 has an auto-rotate bug

Hi
After only 7 days of ownership, the phone developed a problem with autorotate.
All apps were stuck in landscape mode & refused to budge back to portrait.
I had downloaded a few apps from Ovi last night, and upgraded the memory card to a Sandisk Class 2 16GB.
The spirit "Level" app works, so I guess it's more likely a 5800 software/firmware than sensor problem.
Tried advice given by others on this issue - turned autorotate off, restarted phone, then re-enabled. This didn't work on first attempt, but did the second time.
Called Nokia support - they talked me through a hardware reset, though not sure what good this did as I'd got it to work already by above method.
Most annoying, because I'm otherwise loving this phone (although coming from a Samsung Z510, that's not a big ask ... !).
Hope it doesn't happen again.

I've recently come up with a one-button, 1-click easy fix for this problem. If there was a widget that let us control display preferences like orientation, this problem would be solved. As it is, I hit the dashboard key every time I'm in fullscreen mode and I want to check the time or switch the skip to the next itunes song, so having a widget action to make this switch would be a decent stop-gap solution.
Can anyone point me in this direction?

  • Lenovo A916 Has Lost 'Auto-Rotate' Since Upgrade to Dual SIM/Dual Standby

When I first received this phone shortly before Christmas from a UK supplier, it did not operate with Dual Standby. Only rebooting allowed you to swap SIMs.
I have since been successful in updating the firmware build to A916_S1205_141013 which gives me Dual SIM/Dual Standby and is a lot less biased towards a Chinese user and is multi-lingual.
Google services are all there too.
My pleasure was somewhat dampened when I discovered that I can no longer 'auto-rotate' the likes of jpeg files in Gallery. I checked that the facility is turned on in Settings>Display. Apps which force a landscape format, e.g. Netflix work fine.
I loaded an app called Hardware Info which confirms that my phone has a 3-axis accelerometer, which I assume is how it knows which way up it is!
I have also used the ServiceIT app as mentioned in this forum. This confirms that my G-Sensors are working.
Does anyone have any ideas what else I could try to reinstate autorotate?
Incidentally, I got my stock firmware upgrade from www.needrom.com.

  • 8.1.3 auto rotation bug

just installed 8.1.3 on my iPad Air. Was hoping Apple addressed the multigesture intermittent failure, which I found could be temporarily fixed by rotating my iPad. After the update, when I open an app that locks itself in portrait orientation while iPad is sitting in landscape, then exit, my whole desktop is 90 degrees off and does not correct itself without some interaction on my part. An ios 8 bug just got worse.

I haven't seen it either but have you tried to reset the device?
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • Nokia N95 - I don't have Auto rotate

Hey there, I have the original N95 not the 8 GB and I don't have the auto rotate, I plugged my phone into my PC and tried updating the software but it says it's up to date. My sister has the same phone and she has it but not me.... Is there any way I can get it too????
Also my sisters phone is a little different to mine although it is the same model, her lights are all blue and mine are white my phone seems a little bulker then hers and she has a camera shutter and mine doesn't... I was just wondering whats the difference? is hers a different model???? is this the reason why I can't get auto rotate? cause her's is different?
    Thanks

There are a few varients of the N95 for example the N95-1 or N95-3,
You can check this on the sticker at the back of the phone under the battery.
If yours if of a different varient and usally tied to network (branded) then you might not be able to do a software update and have the latest generic firmware untill it is approved by your network.
So i do assume that you do not have the latest firmware V30 and above which has the Auto rotate feature.
You can check your firmware by pressing *#0000# when on standby.
Mark me a KUDOS if this has helped...

  • Has anyone experienced the mute switch / auto-rotate switch iOS bug on their ipad?

Has anyone experienced the mute switch / auto-rotate switch iOS bug on their ipad?
I have experienced this on iPad 1 as well as iPad 2.
Basically, when you set the side switch to toggle screen orientation (or mute), after a period of use I will have either my sound cease to function or the ipad screen will not orient correctly.  This depends on what i have chosen the side switch to toggle.  I am not sure what causes it.  The time it takes for the problem to appear is inconsistent. Some say it is caused by third party applications.
One can find numerous threads on here if you search for "sound on my ipad stopped working" or "orientation not working".  It appears to be the same problem. Fudging with the toggle switch settings can fix it (but it takes a weird order to get it out of its non functioning loop).
Here is a thread that addresses the sound issue:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/15263298#15263298

Its only for notifications.. it is not for sound from videos or music!

  • Nokia 5800 v21.0.25 Auto-Rotate issue (firmware re...

    Hi,
After updating OTA to the lastest firmware Auto-Rotate display stopped working. When i first installed the new FW I had issue with the home screen. It kept blinking like every 1 sec between homescreen and appication screen. This is when I noticed that I cannot reinstall the FW from either NSU or OTA(I suppose it has been pulled of due to some problem for this model). I was luckily able to soft-reset the phone which fixed the home screen blinking, but the Auto-rotate doesn't work anymore. Sensor seems to be ok since step counter is working, muting the phone call and snoozing alarm works
Now I'm pretty annoyed since I can't reinstall the software and this is my only phone at the moment so I have to loan some phone from somewhere in order to the this to the service.
So be carefull with the new firmware.

You cannot reinstall OTA updates because they only work from version A to version B. Your phone now has version B on it already.
I've read that 5800s don't have NSU available for v21 yet, but I guess it's just a matter of time, then you can reinstall as many times as you like!
Thanks for the tip though. I don't use the auto-rotate or motion sensor at all, so I'll be updating just to get the improved Touch that's apparently coming.
I believe that if you have one version installed, and it is the latest one, you can reinstall it using NSU. I'm not sure how it works if you updated OTA vs NSU, though.

Can any one help me, the phone is just 3 days old.

Thanks....now its sitting at nokia care with the promise that they want to change the mother board. Still waiting.....

That said at the end of the day 5800XM is still lazy rotating say compared to 5230 and on mine can be a bit hit or miss with v51.0.006.

  • 5800 - Does new firmware fix auto-rotate problems ...

Ever since V 50.0.005 I've had problems with auto-rotate stopping working after a while (memory leak anyone ?) with a reboot being required to fix it. DAK if this is fixed in V 51.0.006 because if it is I'll go through the hassle of changing my product code to get it early as it's driving me nutzzzzz.

The real issue lies somewhere else.. atleast thats what I think because I did not face such problem on my Nokia 5800 xm with v  50.0.005. It was happenning just occassionaly and not so frequently or permanently as some posts suggest.
Auto rotate should work perfectly when the phone is held vertically.i.e. the top and bottom edges at same distance from the body.. Normaly when the phone is held in palm the bottom edge is nearer than the top edge as it is slanting. The feature will not work 100% in this condition...

  • How to make photo auto rotation work?

Ok, I just got an ipod Touch 16GB yesterday and this is my first ever Apple purchase. I saw an iPhone that my friend has and really liked the screen and photo display features. My friend and I are both photographers. So I bought it mostly for its nice display, all other features are secondary to me.
I plugged it in my Dell PC on Windows XP and set it up. Since ipod version 1.1.2 was available and I updated it before I had a chance to use it with 1.1.1. Anyway, after fiddled with it and loaded some images, I was eager to try photo viewing feature. To my disappointment, the photo auto rotation does not seem to work. When I changed the orientation of the ipod, there was no response and no rotation. For some unknown reasons, I could change the orientation for the whole set of images, sometimes 90 degrees or 180 degrees (upside down from original position), but not individual images. I never figured out how I did it. Could someone help me to get this straightened up? Appreciate in advance.

Sounds like you've got some kind of bug in the software or something. The above portion of the quote was really interesting, because i've never heard of it being able to flip the sets of images, only individual ones.

  • Auto Rotate Nikon .nef files

    Hello everyone,
I found this topic (archived) ... I would like to re-open the issue.
"Topic : Auto-rotate images on import, AP 2.0"
The topic, closed with people saying that it worked if you plugged the camera to the computer.
It still doesnt seem to solve the issue if we use a normal USB Card Reader for the SD Cards.
I have a Nikon D80 ... and I put the cards in a Card Reader (its easier to have the card reader, than the usb cable around !).
Auto Rotate of the .Nef files, does not work. No Exif info either.
    Any ideas ?
    Regards

Look -- this is simple: Camera RAW 2.3 broke Auto-Rotation and recognition of duplicates if images remain on a card after previously capturing them. This has been confirmed and a bug report filed by a number of people. Shortly we should expect a new camera RAW update. CRAW 2.3 also impacted iPhoto in similar ways.
I have not found any EXIF data to be missing.
In the meantime I have found it only a minor inconvenience, and continue to use Aperture 2.1.2 to good advantage.

  • Auto-rotate stops working, accellerometer is working fine?

Last night, I noticed that autorotate in
    - Mobile Safari
    - Coverflow
    - Photos
on my iPhone are is/are no longer working. I was worried that the accelerometer might be broken, but I tried two games that make use of the accelerometer, and both are working fine - Marbles and Labyrinth. I haven't installed anything new since the last time I noticed it working - I think I've set up two imap accounts, and modified my EDGE network setting since, but no new apps.
Has anyone seen this problem? Are any jailbroken apps causing this? I've read about various "auto rotate" problems in these forums and elsewhere online in the past, and it's always assumed the accelerometer is no longer functioning, but as mentioned, it's working fine in some apps that make use of it, so it appears to be a software issue / bug. I will most likely send mine in for service / replacement, but before I do, I was wondering if anyone has any idea or reference about this being a software glitch. I haven't done a restore yet, just wanted to see if it's a problem anyone's seen yet.

I am having the same issue in Safari in a never jail-broken phone. I can launch Safari and when I rotate the phone horizontally, the screen remains vertical. I have been able to get it to rotate on a rare occasion, but then it will not rotate back to vertical unless I exit Safari and reopen it.

  • Yoga 8 and 10 Tablets - KitKat 4.4.2 - Auto-Rotation

After upgrading to KitKat 4.4.2, some customers report auto-rotation does not always occur while changing modes on their Yoga 10 tablet (B8000-F/H). Reports include the Lenovo Launcher home page, Facebook, and SolMail. Hard resets do not resolve the issue.
Please note that Lenovo has escalated internally on this issue. I was able to reproduce these reports on a KitKat 4.4.2 V24 build. I noticed slow auto-rotate and I quickly developed a habit of automatically "shaking" the device one time when changing the mode to force the auto-rotation.
These reports originated from this thread: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Android-based-Tablets/KitKat-roll-out-for-Yoga-Tablets-starting-Jun...
Note: This has only been reported by Yoga 10 Tablet users. If this is occuring on your Yoga 8 Tablet, please let me know so I can escalate it for the Yoga 8.
