5800 screen blackout - no power saver option

A quite simple complaint - the 5800 screen blacks out after 60 seconds no matter what settings you use. (Latest firmware.) I can't find a power-saver disable anywhere in the options.
I want to be able to use a permanent screen saver display, such as a greyed-out clock on low power display, or the status + time blue and white stripe. This is fine on my older N76 and many other models. Why has this feature been excluded?

Good Afternoon sarenj,
That must be frustrating when your handset will not respond to your attempts to power it off. Have you verified that the software is up to date? I have included a link below to assist you. The latest version is: 1.26.605.11; Baseband: 1.15.00.0816
http://bit.ly/yIYT0E
If the software version is up to date, please try running the device in safe mode. This will help determine if any downloaded apps are affecting the device.
http://bit.ly/yAHjEJ
If the behavior is the same after running in safe mode, please complete a hard reset.

I hope this information is helpful.

  • Power Save options

I've recently purchased a car mount for my 8820, but everytime I put it in the cradel it goes into standby mode. The only options I see for the cradel are locking and unlocking and the ability to make calls when the phone is locked.
How do I disable the standby function? Is there a hidden menu?
....the power save option is just for the screen, the rest of the phone functions correctly... please disregard.

  • Officejet 4500 G510n-z (all in one wireless) - how to eliminate power save option?

My Officejet 4500 G510n-z (All in one, wireless) works fine until it sits idle - then it goes into power save mode and won't "wake up".  I have tried every button on the control panel - and nothing gets it out of power save idle.  In this state, you cannot even turn the printer off with the on/off button - to get the unit to work again, you must unplug it, wait, then reconnect the electric cord.  Then, it all works fine until the next time it goes into a long power save mode.  I've gone through all the help manuals without finding any information about power save options.

    Hi there,
Could you provide the community with a little more information to help narrow troubleshooting? What operating system are we using?

  • Nokia 6233 - screen awakes from Power Save / Sleep...

I have Power Save and Sleep Mode on, but ScreenSaver off.
However, the screen often awakes from PowerSave / Sleep (not sure which - manual doesn't describe the difference) and lights up.
This is especially annoying when driving and the Nokia is on a hands-free mount: it's quite distracting, and occurs about every couple of minutes.
It may be that when driving, I'm moving between different signal strengths, and that change to the powersaved screen display activates it again. But it has also happened with the phone in a building.
    Any suggestions welcome

I have exactly the same problem, as do several colleagues. It's also very distracting when it sits on a bedside cabinet, lighting up the bedroom every few minutes in the middle of the night. Sadly I have no suggestion - just want to get this topic higher up the heirarchy so that maybe someone who knows an answer will spot it more easily.

  • Satellite M30: Power Saver options missing after motherboard replacement

    Hi all,
I've just received my laptop back from the service center, and unsurprisingly they stuffed up a feature that used to exist!
I had taken my laptop (M30 1.7GHz Special Edition) to the repair center for a defect and they informed me that the motherboard needed to be replaced. I received the laptop back a couple of days ago and I immediately noticed the laptop getting overheated, the fan did not turn on as frequently as it used to when setting the profile to "Full Power".
After hours of investigation, I noticed that a few options that used to exist in the Toshiba Power Saver does NOT exist anymore. Thus, I feel my laptop is running as in battery optimised even though it's set to full power.
As I said, the fan is not turning on as frequently, leading to the laptop getting overheated. While the fan used to be almost constantly ON on full power prior to the replacement of the motherboard.
Here's how the power saver used to look like "prior" to taking the laptop to the repair center:
    http://www.foxpop.com/imre/2006/toshibatecram3review/toshibapowersaver1.gif
And here's how the power saver looks like now, after the replacement of the motherboard:
    http://www.ixbt.com/portopc/toshiba-satellite/power.png
with the CPU processing speed maximum of 3, instead of 4.
Notice how I'm now missing the "CPU control method" option, and I'm unable to set the processing speed to more than level 3!
The cooling method does not seem maximum performance to me either, due to the symptoms I mentioned above.
Any idea on why that might have happend? Please note that I used the system recovery CD and returned everything to the factory settings, still no luck. I'm sick and tired of going back to their lousy repair center. If someone can point out the problem I will be very grateful.
P.S. I'm using version 7 of the power saver, BIOS verion 1.4 (original)
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
I wonder why you did not contact the service guys again.
After the reparation everything should works fine and if the notebook does not run properly you should immediately report it! In my opinion its a warranty claim.
However, in my knowledge after the motherboard replacement the micro code on the board must be updated therewith the CPU could run with full performance.
What CPU speed appears in the windows system?
Im not 100% sure if the missing microcode update is responsible for your problem but I would recommend asking the ASP for opinion.

  • PowerMac G5 hangs after going into screen saver power save mode

I have a PowerMac G5 and it's been working fine, but as of late has been hanging. I had a couple of external disks on the machine ( Maxtor OneTouch II and a OneTouch III). I recently added two more OneTouch III and stripped the three OneTouch III's together in a RAID set. I'm wondering if that is causing the hangs, but I've also seen it hang without the RAID so I'm not convinced it's the RAID.
Anyway, I can't figure out what's causing it to hang, but it seems to hang at some point after the screen saver runs and then the screen goes into power saver mode. It's not hung right when it shuts down the monitor, but at some point after that.
When it gets in this mode, I can't remotely login using ssh and I can't seem to wake it up. What I end up having to do is to hold the power button down for several seconds until the machine powers off.
In an attempt to see what's going on, I set the OS X monitor power save mode to "never", but I don't think I left it that way long enough and I never saw it hang.
Does anyone have any debugging tips that would help me identify the culprit?

I've been having the same troubles lately. Seem
since the JAVA update. It hangs completely after the
screen is shut down. Every morning I have to reboot
    with the power button.
I am also joining the crowd with this issue. I have a 15" Powerbook G4 that has acted normally until recently. Not sure exactly when it started, but about the same time as the recent updates. Similar behavior to the previous forum posts.
When I manually put the laptop to sleep it freezes up before it sleeps and the multi-language reboot warning comes up. This also happens if it is set to auto-sleep after xx minutes.
When I try to wake it up, the screen is black and the power light shows it is on and it never unfreezes or I get the reboot message.
I have tried everything I can think of to troubleshoot this. I just re-installed the 10.4.8 update over the exisiting one (using an external boot drive made with SuperDuper) and it still happens... BUT when I put the laptop to sleep with the startup drive being external, it seemed to behave properly. I can't figure this out since the external clone was made only minutes earlier from the laptop... and it works. I have zapped PRAM, and done the battery removal / power button reset.
Below is the "report" I have been getting - and sending to Apple. They must be getting tired of the many I have sent.
    Any thoughts out there?
    Thanks.

Yes, I have the same problem. Very annoying as the radio is otherwise very good. (As is mp3 playback.)Has anyone updated the firmware and noticed an improvement?

  • Power Saver / Screen saver on N91

When i try to edit a theme, it gives me the option of selection :
    Date and Time
    Text
    Screensaver
However, when i select screensaver nothing happens. It just returns to the power saver options - does not let me select one or anything?
anyone know what im doing wrong?
i want to use an animated gif as a screensaver, is that possible?

    Hi
First of all you have to install Common Modules before you install any other Toshiba tools or drivers. The Common Modules are required to make other Toshiba programs work properly.
Furthermore it would be interesting to know which error message you get exactly from Toshiba Power Saver. Can you add this information please?
In your case I would uninstall Toshiba Power Saver. Then install Common Modules first and then the other Toshiba tools.
After installing Windows XP on my notebook I have used the following installation order for Toshiba tools but note, all drivers like display, sound, etc. should be installed first:
    Windows XP SP3
    All drivers
    TOSHIBA Common Modules
    TOSHIBA Hotkey Utility
    TOSHIBA Touchpad ON/OFF
    TOSHIBA Utilities
    TOSHIBA Power Saver
    TOSHIBA Assist
The Toshiba recovery disk cant be downloaded. As far as I know this notebook is normally delivered with Windows Vista and therefore you have to create a recovery disk yourself as you can read in user manual.
But now its too late and you have to order new disk from Toshiba directly.

  • Some observations in power saver in E71

    I have observed the following:
    1. If the any power saver other than the blank screen is running, and the key pad is also locked, and then you press the D-pad central button, it shows the date, time and some other info in large font (as expected). But once the button is de-pressed, it does not return the power saver, but shows blank screen.
    2. Breathing light works only with blank screen as power saver, or if one reaches blank screen, as mentioned in the first point.
Any comments on this? In my opinion, for point 1, it should have returned to the power saver set up originally, instaed of the blank screen. The second point seems ok though, though it woould be good to have breating light in all the power savers.
    Regards,
    BK76

Yup, I concur with tobiasrieper. if you have breathing lights off, it will return to the power saver.
Anyways, hopefully some consistency will be introduced in the future firmwares. Also, it may be a good idea to link the breathing light to the power saver option, rather than profile settings. However, this is more subjective, and depends on personal preference!!
    Regards,
    BK76.

  • N96 V30.033 Power Saver Problems

    Hi there,
I've just recently updated my N96 to V30.033 and now the power saver does not seem to work properly.
I have an .swf animation set in the Power Saver options (power save timeout set to 30 secs). After 30 secs when it tries to go into power save, the animation comes up briefly, and then comes out of power save (back to the standby screen. or whatever screen you had open last).
It will just keep doing this in a loop.
It used to work on the last firmware, any ideas?
The only way to stop this is not to use an animation.
    Thanks.

Binx:This is definitly one of the problems comin directly from the firmware, because it used to work for me before as well and now all of a sudden with this **bleep** firmware, we are back to triangle of worst firmwares (V10, V11, V30)............

  • Can I read Windows OS properties in LabVIEW (ex: Is monitor in power save mode?)

Is it possible to read any properties from windows OS.  I would like my code to know if the monitor is in power save mode or not.
I am using a touch panel and after the screen goes blank (power save mode), I don't want the user to accidentally push the wrong button (since he cannot see them).  The user has to touch the screen once to waken it up.  As far as I know there is no way for me to disable the touch screen while in power save mode so I wanted to try and disable the buttons when the screen is in power save mode.
    Thanks,
       Javier

Look here.  At a bare minimum, it loks like you need DevicePowerEnumDevices and GetDevicePowerState.

  • Sleep/hibernate/power save?

I just upgraded an Ultra-1 Creator to Solaris 8; I totally reformatted the boot volume and did a clean install. Now, it exhibits a behavior I have never seen before, it goes into a deep, deep sleep after several hours of inactivity. I mean it powers itself completely off. When I hit the power switch, it does not reboot, but restores itself to right where it was before its nap.
I am positive that this is some setting somewhere that is on by default in Solaris 8, but I have searched the system administration collections in vain trying to find out (a) where this setting is, and (b) how to change it.
Sorry if this is obvious or an FAQ, but I don't know how else to get an answer ;-)

    Hi,
There is the command "dtpower" to change to the power save options of the system. Please go through the link:
    http://docs.sun.com:80/ab2/coll.8.41/POWERGUIDE/@Ab2TocView?Ab2Lang=C&Ab2Enc=iso-8859-1
You would find details about how to disable the auto shutdown feature in Solaris.
    Hope that helps

  • Automated disabling screen blackout with external power

Does anyone have a solution to automatically defeat the screen blackout, other than turning it off in the screen options, so that the screen will stay on while external power is connected and revert to the set screen saver settings when on battery power.  This would be helpful when using Navigation or other applications that require screen on mode but retain the battery saving function of teh screen blanking.  I have an 8830 with Sprint service.
Thanks to anyone with a suggestion
