5800 software update

have only just got the 5800. just tried to install the current software update on my computer . it installs and i restart the computer but when i try to open the updater i get an error message saying "NOKIA SERVICE LAYER HOST PROCESS HAS STOPPED WORKING". I went back to the installer and did repair- same problem. i uninstalled all nokia files and then reinstalled the updater- same problem.
any clues?

First of all, the cursing will get you nothing but trouble here. Your posts will be edited and you are less likely to get help.
I´ve had the 5800XM for almost a year and I can´t confirm any of your problems. The reason why you can´t update might not have anything to do with Nokia. Is it possible that you are using a branded model?

Well I just Bought My Nokia 5800 XM 3 Days Back And Updated to Firmware v50
In that time I was able to See Quick Office.
Today i noticed that the application is missing. So i tried to reinstall using nokia software updater.
It downloaded the latest Firmware. Then i got this Message
My Nokia is connected to back of my pc. So I am assured that it isn,t connected to any hub or keyboard docking station.
Also I tied to change the USB location. but none of the work.
So how shoul i Reinstall the Firmware??????

And i Forgot one thing to mention that i updated the firmware from Nokia Care.

I purchased your Nokia 5800 Xpress Music mobile phone and I am trying to update the software/driver to improve 1: Touch Screen scrolling, 2: version of OviMaps, 3: Ovi Contacts, 4: SW application, and 5: WLAN performance.
I called technical support for mobile phones, unfortunately it is unavailable according to the recording, i've waited for thinking its a wrong message, but nothing happened the call dropped after the message.
The current software version is V31.0.101 and it does not upgrade. I have tried using my phone options to upgrade/update the software, this did not work, i have tried using the Nokia Software Updater but it can not find the new version of the software, and I have tried searching for the new software version by using my phone code under the battery and still it can not find the new software version.
I need help on resolving this issue.

Done all the reset and the reinstallation oof firmware.

Mobile Issues
The phone touch screen is not very responsive.
Limited setting/shortcut you can set on the main screen.
Alarm is inconsistent. Sometimes it’s late.
Clock settings/time zone is not working properly.
The charger port on the phone is a bit loose. Charging gets interrupted even if there is only little movement.
Option is to update NOKIAs 5800 software. Current version is V31.0.101, the latest version is V40.0.005.
Nokia PC Suite / Nokia Software Updater cannot find the update
Tried to use the mobiles code, still cannot find the update
My mate has the same mobile NOKIA 5800 on a Virgin Mobile plan; he was able to update the software. I got images of his phone and my phone with different versions, mine was the old version his got the new 40.0.005 His mate has the same phone as well, which they manage to update the software. He tried helping me update the software, but ended up unable to update the software and got frustrated.
Option is to speak with TeleChoice Barrack Street. After TeleChoice checked the phone why it will not upgrade they suggested having the phone serviced/checked by Nokia Care in Morley.
I let Nokia have a look at the mobile/issue, they told me they will be able to update the software for me, I left my mobile with them, and after 3 business days and the going back and forth to Nokia, and they were unable to update the software. Very sadly, they said it’s being locked by Optus.
I am using 3 as my provider, the mobile I bought it outright from TeleChoice, no plan whatsoever. So I don’t understand why Nokia said it is being locked by Optus.
The option provided for me is to patiently wait for updates, which is available now or to return the product.
Now I am processing a replacement of the device from TeleChoice 10/02/03, hoping to have the issue rectified. They should rectify this, or there will be a violation againts fair trading.

Actually, it has nothing to do with locking to their network. That's a totally different problem altogether that's independent from the branding.
What's happening here is altering the firmware so that it contains Three's logo and links to some of their services in the menu. Plus maybe a few alterations to maintain compatibility with the network, although they should be minor since unbranded phones will work on Three.
The trouble with making these alterations to updated firmware is that it takes time and therefore money to do it, and they get nothing in return. That's why it's such a low priority for network operators to approve updates.

Nokia 5800 software update

Hi everybody, i've decided to update my nokia 5800 to v50 but im not sure which service to use, either the pc via nokia software updater or the phone over air. Which one is safer and better? Because from what i've read over air the size is at around 9mb but via pc its at around 150mb. I mean the difference is huge. So which one should i update with????????????

Just a little word of warning before upgrading 5800 SW. In v50.005 Nokia introduced a new "feature" which is terribly annoying, to say the least.
You cannot any longer decide if you want to browse a web page in full screen display or not. The built in web browser always automatically switch to full display mode after 10 seconds, and I haven't found any way to make it not do this.
This means, that when you've entered a mobile web page, just when you have focused on the text and started reading, the image "jumps" as the web page is rendered to full display mode, and you have to start all over again...
Even worse, if you quickly have located a link to click on, and commenses to click, as the display switches mode, you find yourself way too often having clicked on something els ethan you aimed for.
This function also diminishes the readability of most major news web sites, when holding the phone in the "cinemascope" position. In the forced full display mode, the text lines simply becomes too long to be easily readable.
At least for me, who uses mobile web surf very frequently, this new "feature" is a real killer. And not in the good way...
Anyone found a way to turn this bummer function off? Or at least revert to an older SW version? Or, do we simply need to flood the Nokia support with feedback and hope for the best in the future...

5800: Software updater can't find phone

So yeah, the Nokia Software Updater can't find my phone, and the "in-phone" updater gives me an Connection Error. Nokia PC Suite detects my phone just fine, although the Connection Center doesn't.
I'm connecting through a USB directly to the computer.
Any tips? I've updated everything, from drivers to software, and also reinstalled everything twice already. I'm just out of solutions.

If you've the latest firmware version, you have to wait till a new update comes available for your device.

I updated my Nokia 5800 with V20.0.012 (Custom Version 20.0.012.217.06). The dictionary and search facility have not installed. Any advice would be most welcome.

5800 software not updated properly

Hi all,
I have a question on 5800 software update.Will software update through NSU formats all the data including messages, contacts and applications.Yesterday i updated my device software but, all the contacts messages and applications are remain in the phone.And when i open search web and my content it saying system error.Again i updated device software still i there is no change in both the cases.Can any one help me on this.?

I just update my Nokia 5800 firmware ver 10.0.010 to ver 20.0.012, I noticed that some extra applications got change, also I now can use my second camera, but one thing still a same problem is switch on/off, sometimes is blank, I have to switch it on/off many times to get my phone ready to use.
Is anyone has a same problem and already found the way to fix it up?

5800 v50 software update problem

I just updated my phone to this v50 firmware as it hadn't been done in a year or so and i wanted the newer features....it installed ok according to Ovi suite but now the phone is un-useable due to the screen scolling diagonally and being offset by 10mm to the right with little or now touch screen ability..the bottom half of the screen is just speckles.
V50 is the latest available for the phone code and i've tried hard and soft resets with no joy.

Myself and 'popdown' (mentioned in the above post) have replaced ours so depending on your answer this may or may not be the reason for a wrecked screen layout! If you have was it done by yourself and was it an official 'Nokia' one or not?

I had updated my 5800 Xpress Music ver. 52.0.007. My problem is my mobile chinese langauge set disappear. May I know how to install my chinese language back into my mobile?

Unfortunately you will need to visit Nokia Care Point for "language pack" to be installed; this appears to have been done previously with earlier firmware on your 5800XM, but unfortunately software update servers deliver firmware appropriate to the seven digit product code on label below battery which appears to be from a different region. Bear in mind on a pre-owned device that actual product code recorded electronically might not tally with the one on label.

On my Nokia 5800 if I go to software update in the menu it connects to the internet and gives me a list of what needs updating, a very good feature (if it worked OK) so I got this list which says Here & Now 2.0 and mail for Exchange, Nokia messaging 10.2, ovi contacts 1.50 and scribble. Now up the top of that list it says phone software and then underneath that it says Important, all the others are optional, now this important one set alarm bells ringing so I ticked it and see that it has to be updated by PC (seems you cannot update it OTA) so I went to the site on my PC (www.nokia.com/softwareupdate) and it said the latest firmware was 50.0.005 so I checked on my phone using *#0000# and my phone told me I had 50.0.005 firmware already on it, and when I check options it says no updates available! - so what am I to believe the software updates in the phones menu or check for updates on the *#0000# screen? - Does anyone know whats going on?, is it a bug? Thanks.

that's applications updates. when you dial *#0000# it says phone's firmware. so v50 is the latest firmware for 5800xm. you can update your application using SW update.
go to - menu>applications>sw update then it will automatically searches for updates select updates that you want to update then select Start Update from options menu.
you can update these applications through OVI suit too. connet your phone via USB. then select update tab.

I can't update my phone's device software whatever via cell phone or Nokia Software Updater application. My phone's software version is 31.2.101 and the latest software release for Nokia 5800 Xpress Music is 50.0.005. Every time I will get "No update available".
Also, anyway can install language pack? I am looking for the chinese language pack for this phone. Many thanks!

Nokia 5800 RM-428 software update

Hello, I have a Nokia 5800 from Rogers with software version 31.2.101. I have heard about the new software 52.0.007 and I was wondering how can i download/upgrade to it. I have used both the Nokia Ovi Suite and the Software Updater but no avail. Both of them read "no update available." Is it because my phone is locked to Rogers and they do not allow the update or is there anyway I can bypass and install the new software. Any help would be appreciated.

I have 51.2.007 installed in my Nokia 5800 (RM-428) Product Code 0561618. NSU v3.0.223 indicates that mine us up to date. Unless they add a featue like cover flow to the media player I don't know what they would be doing in this update. It runs pretty good now. Big improvement over v21 and especially over v40, which resulted in Nokia replacing my handset.

Hi I bought my new Nokia C3-00 mobile yesterday. It is very good in functions, but the problem I felt is that there is no control to adjust the brightness. I searched all over the net and couldn't find a solution. That's why came here to put a suggestion. Why the Nokia people didn't made such a basic function in some phones.
Is any firmware update have this function ?
Also, my phone has version 7.20, RM-614. Nokia now announced that a firmware option 8.63 is available. So I checked for software update directly from my phone using the software updater. It founded a software update and downloaded it. After downloading, it begin to install by restartign the phone, But after restarting, before installing, the message displayed that Unable to Install. Why like this ?I tried it 2 3 times. The same with he case of OVI. Nokia, please consider the needs of customers.

I read that there was a new firmware available for 5800 which is 50.0.005
I tried to get the firmware over the air and was successful in doing so.
I have been checking the nokia support website for software updates for the same product code and see it change from 40 to 30 and back to 40 every few days..
wats up with that??
