5800 XM Nav Question

Howdy all,
Just got this baby a few days ago, she's a beauty! This is my first smartphone to boot.
1) Where can I get the Adobe Reader for free? Or is the only one from the Ovi store?
2) I created an extra WLAN...profile for my phone (so I have MyNetwork and MyNetwork(01) in my connection manager), how do I delete extra connections?
3) Can I set it up so I don't have to use the phone lock on the side? I still want to put in a pin, I just hate using that switch...I don't understand why I can't just tap the screen.
4) How do I use handwriting for website password boxes?
Thanks ya'll. Kinda wished I got the regular version of this since it came with a sleeve, now I have to go find a case for this.

Four shortcuts is all you can add thats the limit.
1. Adobe reader is not free for Xpressmusic phone so is Quickoffice reader, get the one available on the Ovi store, its not free BTW.
3. If you dont want the side lock switch to unlock there is another app available on the Ovi store called Mr.Lock, i am not sure its free or paid one try that.

5800 Sat-nav update

I'm rinning version firmware V50.0.005 and have just updated to the latest Ovi Sat-nav. Now when one of my alarms triggers it won't shut off. Pressing stop on the screen gets a response from the hand set (it vibrates) but the alarm just keeps on playing.
Any suggestions?

Have you noticed the button you are trying to press is actually an arrow?
Instead of pressing it swipe your finger across the screen in the direction the arrow is moving.
This feature was added to the 5800 from v40 onwards to bring it into line with the newer models.

XNV-660BT nav question

I recently installed the unit and I find that while in navigation mode, if I am on a phone call and a nav direction is given, the unit does not beep as a warning. All my other TomToms, including the first generation would do this. Am I missing a setting. This is a safety issue. I seem to have to constantly glance at the screen to see when the next turn will be. If on a call, there should be an audible warning given.

CSS nav question

I am working on a nav and I can't seem to get the button to
have a certain height.
The nav is here, at the top of the page:

The css I have is below. I tried to have a height attribute
in the 'a' or 'li', but neither did it. Why is that? I am not sure
what else to look at with this? I am trying to have the buttons
fill the whole vertical space inside the topNav div. How can I do
that.

Nokia 5800 Real Player Question

I noticed something weird. The real player is an application that is built to play rmvb files right? I mean rmvb is real media video sumthing right? The real player on my 5800 (installed upon purchase) plays the rmvb file's audio pretty nice, but the video pixelizes and lags behind all I can see are big unmoving squares despite the video being at 300+bitrate and 640x480 resolution! Now I'm currently using Xilisoft Video converter, but for some reason the audio doesnt come over when the vid is converted to mp4 and is played on my phone. it registers as 'no audio'.

Wow, it's incredible that RMVB of VGA resolution play at all. I've only had success at QVGA resolution (320x240) and 128 kbps or 256 kbps maximum.
I haven't found any reference anywhere as to what are the capabilities of the RealVideo decoder in the S60 v5 software but I'm pretty sure that what you're trying to play is well beyond the capabilities of the device unfortunately.
As to why Xilisoft doesn't encode the video, I don't know, you'll need to contact Xilisoft. Does the converted video have any audio at all, check the video properties on the PC?, maybe Xilisoft doesn't support the format of the video.

5230 - a few simple questions

Hi,
I've been looking at buying the Nokia 5230 and I've got a few questions I wouldn't mind some help with. Mainly to do with the sat nav function.
1. Is SAT NAV built into the phone. In other words, can I turn my phone on sit in my car and use it as a traditional sat nav system without having to buy any additional accessories. (except a phone mount). I'm mainly referring to not having to buy a GPS receiver type thing.
2. If yes to above, are they any charges I would incur when using the SAT NAV function? (monthly fee, usage charges etc,etc)
3. A non SAT NAV question - can it sync with outlook for contacts and diary?

Yes the phone comes with a SatNav application, some time back Nokia announced free voice navigation with Ovi maps 3.03 and 5230 and is compatible to it, you can download it from Nokia website and install it. This version of Ovi maps doesnot come out of the box for some devices. Charges for Navigation depends upon your data plan if used with A-gps which uses Network provider's GPRS connection for quicker GPS fix, you can also get a GPS fix without A-gps by relying only on the inbuilt GPS receiver which may take time to get a fix but not very longer. You can use the device very well for SatNav without need to buy a seperate gps receiver. Yes it does synchronise with outlook, with Nokia PC suite you can sync your PIM with outlook.

Buying a Nokia 5800, does it work in Europe?

Im living in the US now and for 4 months more. I need a new phone and was thinking about the Nokia 5800. My question is, if I buy it here in the US, will it work when I move back to Sweden? And do you know if there is any way to get swedish language on a US bought Nokia 5800?

It will work as a GSM phone worldwide but it will not work on 3G networks in many countries outside of the US and certainly not in Europe.
Your warranty will only be valid in the US too.
Nokia care points can add languages for a small fee, thats the only way.

5800 - Stop ringtones playing in music player - ho...

As the subject suggests - does anyone know how to do this?
I find it very annoying when I choose to listen to all music and the ringtones or message tones play

I've found a workaround for this problem that seems to work for me on my 5800 XM Nav Ed. After I was done adding all of my music to my phone and refreshed my music library I too found that the ringtones that I'd downloaded in the past had showed up in the music player when I displayed all songs. So what I did was remove the ringtones from the "Sounds\Digital Sounds" folder on my external memory card and moved them to the "Other" folder on the phone's internal memory using the built in file manager application. Then I went back into the music player app and low and behold the ringtones were no longer displayed in the music library when I displayed all songs. I did however have to go back to the phone profiles that I had customized (i.e. Normal, meeting, etc.) and reselect the appropriate ringtone because when you first go into the profile to customize after having moved the tones from their original location to the "Other" folder you get an error message that basically states the ringtone cannot be found so a default will be used. When you select the ringtone to change it however, the original ringtone that you used will be displayed in the list of available tones you just have to reselect it to make it work again. If however you do add more songs and do a refresh on the music library the ringtones will show up again when you display all songs in the music library. Hope you find this works for you as well. Like I said it is a workaround and not a permanent fix.

Thank you guys , I installed the card and it works perfectly...
I must say that is incredible the amount of polys that this card moves... I move more than 1200000 like if it was only a few hundred polygons.

Clarification on PO Pricing

When i see PO Conditions tab, i could see
1. PB00
2. NAVS
3. ZPRS - Std Cost of Mat.
4. Freight - YFR1
5. Cash Discount - SKTO
I understand that for cash discount[SKTO] and freight [YFR1] condition records would have been maintained, so they are appearing.
Why NAVS is apperaing, though its value is zero, how the sytem know that to display PB00 [no PBXX why?], NAVS to display in conditions? any control on what to display even though no condition record exists.
ZPRS value is the standard price of the material pulled from material master, how they would have achieved that?

As i have said earlar if u have not ticked manual in pricing prcedure againgthe conditin type the condition will apper in condition tab if value is there or not there.

Question: Can you please explain this bit more with an ex. when we pay vendor we pay product cost + tax, then in what scenario we add tax to material cost at Po level. then at invoice we will have double tax right one from tax code and another NAVS already added to material cost. Can you plz explain NAVS
there are some product on which company is not layable to get setoff
like if i purchase some material and the material does not go in my manufacturing, the tax like excise i cant take set of of this excise so this is non didicatable
like CST its always non didicatable i dont get setoff for CST so this cost is added to material cost.

Problems with CK-100 in 2003 Chrysler Grand Voyage...

I just installed a CK-100 in my 2003 Chrysler Grand Voyager using a ISO adapter cable from KRAM. The installation of the cables was easy. I used the configuration in which the CK-100 uses the car speakers and both phone and music from the phone are switched via the CK-100.
On testing the CK-100 I ecountered the following problems:
1. when using the phone (Nokia 5800), the front speakers are used for the phone and work OK, but the rear speakers make a "static" noise which is quite irritating.
2. when the phone is not in use my right rear speaker makes a soft clicking noise (approx. a click per second) which is irritating. This speaker also stopped transmitting musice from my car radio.
3. When audio is played from my phone it uses the front speakers and everything is OK. In this situation I have to use the volume control of my Nokia 5800, the nav wheel does not work in this mode. Is this normal?

It seems you know a bit about this car kit and so i thought i would try and get some help from you. I am an installer and I have installed the nokia CK-100 Bluetooth car kit into three vehicles. In one I used my LG phone to test the kit with once the install was complete. When I connected it, it would disconnect straight away. When I tried the customers Nokia it worked fine. In a second vehicle, the customer has returned saying his is doing the same thing after two weeks of functioning normally. He has a Nokia and once you turn on the ignition it says "connecting" then a second later says "connected" before it can finish saying that word it says "disconnected" and then stays disconnected till we try initiating connection again. This happens with my phone as well. I can't get the unit to function properly. I tried CLEARING THE PAIRING LIST as per the instruction kit, but even with the car off and holding the button for 5 seconds the unit tries to connect the same as before.
Any help would be good.

5800 SatNav questions.

I've been learning about the satnav on the 5800 and need a bit of help if possible. I believe I can use the satnav without connecting to the internet.
From OVI maps In the tools setting I have Internet > Connection ( offline ) - Network Destination : Internet and Roaming Warning : On
If the phone is in Dual mode, I can locate my position, search destination and If I check Settings > Connectivity > Connection Manager : It shows no active connections ( as it should do )
However
If the phone is set in GSM mode and I locate my position. When I check Settings > Connectivity > Connection Manager : It shows Tesco MMS ( I'm on the Tesco UK network ).
So a couple of questions. Why has it connected and why is it showing Tesco MMS and not Tesco WAP ?
If I switch back to Dual mode and allow OVI maps to connect. Its either connected to TEsco Wap or my Wifi connection.

Setting Maps to online does exactly as you described.
I am still a little puzzled with the map data. I would recommend you do as JJ suggested to make sure you have the correct map data downloaded and do not accidentally end up with a huge data bill for downloadinng map data in real time.
I took JJ's advice and reloaded the maps from the OVI suite. I rechecked my cities folder and its still the same size . I just bought my 5800 ( can yer tell ) and although it came in a standard box, the manual was marked Navigation Edition. So I think the the UK maps come pre-loaded . That could explain why I have the full UK maps.
For now ( while in the UK ) I have put all the assist nav back on and turned the internet to offline.
I would just like to know if I can delete the OVI map history

Garmin Sat. Nav. on 5800

Hi,
I have been told that I can purchase the one off fee of the european map by Garmin to be installed in my Nokia 5800 xpressMusic phone.
At present I have a Garmin Sat Nav which covers the whole of europe.
It seems to me that I can sell it and pay the one off fee to install the garmin europe sat nav into my mobile phone.
As I live in London, I already have the UK navigation in the phone.
Question:
Do you know if it is really possible to place the Garmin map into the phone? Are there subscription fees for this or is it just a one off fee?, etc...
If true then where do i get this please?

You would have to check on the Garmin web site if they have a compatible version for this phone. I would also advise you to check what the 'one-time' fee that you have heard of includes, ie: do you get software and map data updates with the package? Remember that roads change often so data needs regular updates.
Nokia Maps may require a regular licence purchase, but you are guaranteed regular free updates to both the software and the map data. Also, Nokia Maps 3.0 (which is still in Beta version but allegedly due for full launch soon), the licences will be cheaper and cover more - national licences will be no more and you will get at least a regional licence (such as Europe, North America, etc.) for less than the current price of the cheapest Maps 2.0 licence.

Nav bar question

I have built the first handful of pages for a site using DW CS4. I have a couple of glitches that I can't seem to get sorted out.
Here is the site:

First question is regarding the main (in the header) navigation bar. I created it by floating css background images and using a:link and a:hover and a:active. It works fine (in firefox) except for one thing. I want the links to be the active(orange) color when the user is on the associated page. So the link for FEATURED is white when up, has the shadow effect on hover and would be the Orange color on down. I can't figure out how to get the down state to work.
Second problem is with the horizontal ul at the very top. It looks fine in Firefox but in IE 8 the right most email link gets put on a second/lower line and that's not good plus it seems to be messing up the nave bar at the bottom of the header.
Any help with this will be very much appreciated.

Your CSS is a little out of whack!
To create an active tab/link, make a copy of the portion of your CSS that fires the rollover(hover).
Change the color to orange and name the CSS(selector) like this:
.activeLink and place it in the link of the current page like this, than add the style to this selector that you want the link to have.
Based on your CSS, if it does not work, you should use the CSS !important declaration.
<li id="top-home" class=".activeLink"><a href="/index.html"></a></li>, meaning one per page.
Remember add this style only to the the current page.
There are two reasons why the link above could drop. 1). Not enough space for the amount of text you have, eg: too much margin or padding. 2). If the text are floated, you must clear them or at least clear the email so that it does not wrap around the previous text. Example: Clear none or clear right.

Question about Nav. Attributes

Hello Gurus,
Lets say I have a characteristic "C", which has two attributes (both time-independent) named "A" and "B". Lets say "B" is made as a navigational attribute. So, we have P table and X table where the X table has the SID of the attribute "B". I have a couple of questions 1) Does the P table have an entry for the attribute "B" (even though it is a nav. attribute) and 2) If so, why do we need that field in P table? Is it because the user can change attribute "B" from Nav. to display attribute in future, if required? Please clarify.

User can change it back to display attribute. then the attribute will come into p-table,even there is a data in it.
