Can anyone tell how to yurn of wi-fi scan - it is very annoying that wi-fi pops up on the screen, every time I am in the middel of writing an sms or dialing a phonenumber.
I have upgraded to firmware 20.
On my old E65 I could switch wi-fi on/of, and that worked well.

If you've been through what was described then your phone is not scanning for wireless networks. It could, however, be that there's some software on your phone trying to use a wireless network.
The obvious potential culprits are some kind of push e-mail client, VoIP telephony software, share online and sync. Make sure none of these are running on your phone.
If it comes to that then back up your data using PC Suite or OVI Suite and reset your phone by dialling *#7370# and supplying your security code (default is 12345 unless you've changed it). This will wipe all software off your phone and reset it to its factory default state.

5800 GPRS turns off too late...

Hi guys, I have a problem with my Nokia 5800 (Firmware 20+).
here in dubai, my Provider (etisalat) doesn't support Dual mode (GPRS and Calling at the same time).
I have Nokia messaging service enabled on the phone and receive my emails just fine. (except for the Famous no notification on the homescreen)
Now everytime I want to make a call, I need to manually turn off the GPRS connection so that I can make a call at all or send SMS as well...
Apperantly my phone DOES disable the GPRS but only AFTER the call has already been established... which results in a dismissed outgoing call by my provider.
Is there any way I can change the order in which my phone does the pause? Currently what my phone does is as follows:
1) establish call
2) disable GPRS
3) my call get's dismissed by provider message
4) Call ends
5) GPRS reenables
Is there a way to disable the GPRS BEFORE the call is established?

Firefox 4.0 turned off the AVG scanning of sites - I would like it on - how do I fix this?

My security - AVG used to star cleared sites on Firefox - when I upgraded to 4.0 it turned the AVG scanning of Firefox sites off. I would like ti turned back on.

The add-ons would have been disabled if they are not compatible with Firefox 4. You need to check with AVG to see if they have an update to make their add-ons compatible.

Helllp! my nokia 5800 wont turn on...wont charge.....

I currently own a nokia 5800 and just recently it has broken completely not as in smashed up but i suspect a software problem because it will not do anything... wont charge, wont turn on, wont anything. Ive looked around the net and tried everything including hard reset but nothing has worked. Anyone else had this problem? So i was wondering... what should i do?? Am i able to send it off somewhere? Pleeeeeeaase help im dying without my music and texts.

HP OfficeJet 6700 Premium - How do I turn on/adjust automatic scan cropping?

Hi,
How do I turn on, turn off or adjust automatic cropping on my scanner?
I keep getting image errors when trying to scan a check to deposit to my credit union. Instead, of the check being automatically cropped I find I have to do this manually (as best as I can by eye). I think this manual effort is contributing to my image errors but perhaps not. Previously, I had a C7280 Photosmart AIO printer and never had this problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

I believe that HP does a poor job of deliniating thier products. I had a HP Officejet 8600 at home, which they no longer make and was referred to the product replacement. However in the store I saw the 6700. From what was written on the packaging I could see a difference between the scan capabilities of one device over the other. I opted for the less expensive model and now I'm not thrilled.

5800 XM turns off

Hi guys,
Im new to all this stuff, but my 5800XM switches off when any pressure is applied to the sides of the phone. Also, when any memory card is inserted, it crashes and will only boot to the Nokia handshake screen then freezes.
Any suggestions???

Ok so i got this 5800 expressmusic like 3 months ago and its been fine until this. I ran the updates through PC and the installation program crashed once and got through on second attempt. After i unplugged it from the USB cable i found out that the phone was "dead". So i tried to start it and it started vibrating for like 1 minute straight. Ever since i have tried everything i could figure out from online/my own silly brain. Including hard reset(which doesnt work if the phone isnt powered) removing battery and cards.
Short version:
Phone doesnt start, only vibrates for 1 minute or so after updating to 31.x.x.x
Help would be appreciated.

If hard reset doesn't work, you have to take your phone to a Nokia care point.
Hard reset (the three key code/reset). Turn off the phone. Press and hold three keys together, the green/talk key, the * key and the number '3'.Then, turn on the phone and don't let the three keys before you see the nokia hands logo/nokia boot up screen.
For 5800 XM hard reset need different keys/buttons. The green/talk key, the red key and the camera key/button. The process is the same.Warning!Hard reset deletes ALL your phone's data/files!

5800 - Screen turn off is a turn off...

....Using Skyfire I can get Catchup TV and BBC iPlayer BUT when viewing - how do you stop the Nokia 5800 screen from turning off every minute (max setting 60 seconds)...Most annoying having to keep operating the screen on/off button to bring it back on again...

Christ almighty, puhleeeze let us turn off the "determining gapless playback" crap. I've turned off "cross-fade playback" in preferences, figuring that might do the trick, but it doesn't. Please give us an option to disable this thing. I have to watch iTunes because every two minutes it tries to restart this scanning. I've got 5,000 songs on a network. It can scan through 400 songs every ten minutes. So a REALLY long time to scan, all the while iTunes is barely responsive.

Agreed wholeheartedly. We bought my son the Red Nano because that was what he really, really wanted for his birthday, but we had not planned to upgrade to iTunes & because of all the reported problems. We had to for his Nano to work, and aside from the audiobook problem with the Nano, (which I guess isn't actually an iTunes issue) we have not had any problems with iTunes, but we haven't bought any videos or anything like that either. I have been happy with itunes 6.04 and saw no need to upgrade until we wanted to buy movies or something, after the bugs got worked out.

5800 wont turn back on.

The battery on my phone went yesterday and when I came to charge it it wouldn't turn back on or register that the phone was charging. It lit up last night and got to the shaking hands but after that, nothing. The only sign of life I've had since then is the occassional vibrate when I try the power. I left it charging overnight in the hope that that would work and also tried using a different charger so I know that's not the problem. Also, if I take the charger out I get nothing but if I put it back in again it'll vibrate.
I've tried taking the memory, sim and battery out and then putting them back in but with no luck. I also tried to connect to the computer but it won't even register that the USB is connected. Also, the green/red/camera button reboot has no effect whatsoever.
Anybody have any ideas or am I going to have to send it away for repair...if it can be repaired

The same thing happened to me! Except that in my case, it lights up but once it got to the nokia logo, before the shaking hands even appear, the phone freezes in the nokia logo screen. I've tried charging it, but it only gets to the nokia logo screen. I've tried different combinations of memory card and sim card out when powering on as well as taking the battery in and out, but to no avail. However, seldomly, the phone can turn on successfully without the sim card, with/without the memory card. I haven't tried the hard reset, as i haven't backed up my phone memory. Help pls?

How can I turn off that Maveriks at iMac is scanning continuously for new devices?

Hi, I have a iMac (early 2008) updatet to 10.9 Maveriks with Bluetooth mouse, mousepad en keyboard. I listen at home to music with a Onkyo TX-NR626 A/V receiver (with Bluetooth) via my iMac, iPad and android device.
When I startup or wake up my iMac, Maveriks is always staring to scan for new Bluetooth devices?!. Than every time, my receiver (also when the receiver is turned off) is turning on and change to Bluetooth mode.
I can't turn off the Bluetooth function at my Onkyo TX-NR626 A/V receiver. With Mountain Lion, I didn't had this problems.
I want to turn of the continuously scanning procedure after startup or wake up on my iMac.
My question is:
How can I turn off that Maveriks is scanning continuously for new devices?
How can I turn off the detection mode of my iMac?

At the very end of the article, it mentions the "bug" that only one app on Windows can play direct sound at a time. That's exactly the "feature" I'm looking for on the Mac. Funny how one person's bug is another's feature.

5800 turns itself off

My 5800 keeps turning itself off at random. I have now turned off the sensors but the phone turns itself off if it is shaken, I have updated the latest software update to v31.0.101. The phone doesn't switch off so often with the sensors turned off. The phone has not had any bad knocks as far as I know. Anyone have any ideas?

If the issue's still there, and it's caused by shaking the phone light in your hand, you will have to take it to a Nokia care point, which you can find information about by clicking the "contact us" button on the top right of this page.

5800 freeze in NOKIA welcome screen

my phone turned off and when i want to turn on it again, it freeze in its welcome screen (NOKIA) without the handshake presenting. and it took so long 'til my battery dropped again.
yeah, i had a problem same with you guys .
and what i do is remove my memory card BEFORE i turn on my handset.
voila !, it back to normal .
but, if i turn off and turn on again (memory card still inside), it just initiate the screen NOKIA without the handshake presenting.
it drive me crazy.
what is the solution? , i don't wanna remove and insert my memory card everytime i use my phone.
please help me guys !

I had this issue as well ... when turning my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic on, it would freeze at the Nokia start up screen. I had installed lots of apps from the Ovi Store over a periods of a couple of months, so I cannot say which one was "to blame" for the sudden freezing.
Taking out the battery, even for hours, did not help in my case.. When I pulled out the (8Gb) MicroSD card then turned the 5800 on, it booted without a problem ... though of course I did not have access to any apps which had been installed to the MicroSD card.
Posters elsewhere have stated that in the situation described above, the problem is that the MicroSD card is corrupted, and must be reformatted. While I'm sure that would work, I think it's a little extreme as a first step.
There is an interim step that worked for me: try first running software (such as MS Windows' Check Disk) that can correct corrupted files on the MicroSD. There are many ways to go about this. I did the following (I run Windows XP on my computer).
1) remove the MicroSD card from the Nokia 5800 (be sure to follow the instructions in your manual)
2) insert your MicroSD into a card reader, and plug the card reader into your computer (if it's not already attached to your computer).

3) After a few seconds, Windows XP should recognize the MicroSD card as a drive. In my case, a dialog box called "Removable Drive E" popped up. Your Dialog Box may have a different name. If so, substitute that name in the instructions below.
4) Scroll down within the dialog box until you see "Open Folder to View Files using Windows Explorer", and DOUBLE-LEFT-CLICK on it.
5) A Windows Explorer windows opens up. RIGHT-CLICK on "Removable Drive E" and when the dialog box opens, LEFT-CLICK on "Properties"
6) A new window opens, called "Removable Disk E Properties". Select TAB "Tools"
7) Inside the "Error-Checking" section on top, LEFT-CLICK on "Check Now ..."
8) A small window called "Check Disk Removabl ..." opens. Make sure both "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan or and attempt recovery of bad sectors" are selected, then LEFT CLICK on the Start button.
The Check Disk program will run for several minutes, and hopefully fix any corrupt sectors on your MicroSD card.
9) When Check Disk is done, shut down all the dialog and Windows Explorer boxes, then remove the MicroSD card. IMPORTANT: to prevent further data corruption, make sure you use the Windows "Safely Remove Hardware" utility before you physically remove the card reader and MicroSD card from your computer.
10) Insert the MicroSD card back in your Nokia 5800, then turn on the 5800. If Check Disk found and fixed the corrupted files, your 5800 should boot without a problem.
If after all of this your 5800 still freezes at the Nokia logo on start up, you might proceed with the card reformatting suggestions made by others. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. here is the behavior for all steps:
1. use oper. system safe mode: it works, I can send email
2. no oper. sys. safe mode, t'bird safe mode: cannot send mail
3. no oper. sys safe mode, no t'bird safe mode, all addons disabled: cannot send mail.
It only works when i use oper. sys. safe mode.
Addons for t'bird were enabled in this test.
(Not using T'bird safe mode either in this test.)
Use BitDefender antivirus, which does not have a setting to turn on/off email scanning. Should I contact BD support? (it seems to point to BD as causing the problem. Interesting that I don't have this problem on 2 other desktops, only the laptop. And in the past, T'bird worked on the laptop. I have tried uninstall and reinstall, but mozilla is SAVING all my account and other info, so I cannot do a clean install. it seems to me that if I could do a clean install, it might work. Any idea how to remove all the data and uninstall?
