5800 xm v40.0.005 WLAN bug

Hi,
Ever since I updated my firmware to v40.0.005 on 5800 XM, my phone automatically connects to the WiFi working in my home. Even after I have turned off all the settings to autodetect WiFi network.. It automatically connects to WiFi network as soon as I disconnect it manually. Earlier(v30 firmware), it used to connect only when I was using some application with WLan usage..
Its annoying and also draining battery.. I can't switch WiFi router as other devices(laptops, PC) are using it..
P.S. I installed Image Exchange software in new firmware?

Your last statement may have provided the answer. Is Image Exchange set to look for a data connection? I have this problem initially with Nimbuzz and a couple of other apps.

Hi to all,
I'm so diappointed to have losen one of the best strength of my nokia 5800 XM (fast GPS fix thanks to A-GPS function).
Indeed, it's now inconceivable to hope a GPS fix before 5 or 10 minutes while staying at the same place. Thus, we lose all the interest of the GPS driving through a city !!!!
I tried soft and hard reset but nothing seems to be helpful, i'm now convinced the problem is due to the firmware (v40.0.005 but I already had this problem in v31.0.101).
Unfortunately the new Ovi Maps version didn't either solve the problem...
Could you give your feedbacks on the problem or explain me how the problem might be resolved ?

As you already had the problem best guess
would be a hardware problem rather than firmware .
Take phone to a Nokia Care Centre or you could try wiping the phone and memory card and starting from a clean install .

Nokia 5800 firmware v40.0.005 bugs that I faced

I was quite happy to see the new firmware update for my Nokia 5800. Looking at the new features like kinetic scrolling etc.. I've installed the update with no second thoughts. I had taken the back-up of what ever I wanted and ready for upgrade.
However, the below is the experience
1. The update went smooth. Phone has automatically restarted after the update.. I'm happy for few minutes.
2. Basic functionality is fine. Some of the applications like Opera Mobile were missing. Understand that I need to reinstall them. Also, wanted to update the Ovi Maps.
3. Tried S/W update option in the phone. No application was able to install or upgrade. After downloading the application, it just says update failed.
4. Tried through PC Suite. Experience is same.
5. Soft reset the phone. Now applications are getting installed or updated. But there's another problem.
6. Phone restarts itself upon any incoming call or alarm or any calendar alert. This was very annoying!!
7. Soft reset the phone again. Imported the back-up.
8. With zero customizations, the basic functionality is back.
9. Installed Opera Mobile back. Phone is working fine. But the touch key board provided by Opera is gone. It goes to phones default input mode.
10. All the applications like Fring, Google Maps, GMail are gone.
11. Installed Fring (from Ovi store). Phone restarted.
12. The incoming call problem is back. I can't simply take any incoming call. Phone reboots automatically, when I hit any option on the screen.
13. Uninstalled Fring.. Problem still exist.
14. Soft reset again.. basic things are back.
15. Don't have enough guts to install any new software.
Summarizing:
1. The firmware is very very unstable. It seems to have a very narrow happy path.
2. Beware!! Basic things like incoming calls are affected.
3. Some applications are not happy with new firmware. They can break the phone.
4. If you had any security related application like WaveSecure, do not forget to install it again.
Other issues found:
1. Pause functionality has disappeared in the Recorder tool.
2. GPRS / WAP access points are taken in the order of preference.
Other than kinetic scrolling, I didn't find any major difference / benefit from this update.
Do it at your own risk.

I need help with my Nokia 5800 update to v40.0.005

Hey im having trouble with updating my Nokia 5800 to v40.0.005.
The version on my phone at the moment is v21.0.025 and when i try to update it on my phone it says no update available.
I tried downloading Nokia Update Software and getting it from there but the program wouldnt work either.
Is there any other way i can get the v40.0.005 were it should work? or even getting the knetic scrolling and applications without needing to get v40.0.005?

Under your battery, there's a product code on a sticker (X: 0586707). Go here: http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/device-software-update/can-i-update and type in your productcode to see if there should be an update for your productcode. If there's not, you could take your phone to a Nokia Carepoint and ask if they could do it - no promises. Or else you have to wait untill your productcode gets it.

I have updated my Nokia 5800 to V40.0.005. It has worked fine however the home screen contacts bar is now a lot larger and i can not fit in all the contacts i wanted. Is there anyway of making 4 fit accross the screen?

updating to new firmware depends on product code which represents your region of purchasing, language pack and if it's branded or not .... so NOKIA releases firmwares and release it for every product code depending on mentioned points

if your phone is branded with an operator, that means that you should go to the operator care center and ask them, not NOKIA
some updates delay in some countries variant product code, as it requires more effort to add language pack to it like and in some certain countries "example. China Japan Korea" or it needs the country to approve it due to its policy

Just found out that V 40.0.005 is now available for South African Phones (0575950). On my way to download it now - - - Such a long wait!!!

WE ARE DOOMED! Looks like Nokia does not think the problem we faced is a firmware bug!
I have email their customer support on this issue and this is the reply I got from them:

Nokia 5800XM FW v40.0.005 bugs report

Hello, At first I would like to thank all those working on the development of Nokia phones.
Then I would also offer a group of problems which discovered in the latest firmware for Nokia 5800 (v40.0.005).
Problems (bugs):
- Some application icons are multiplied.
- Some application icons are hided (Icon transparent).
- Sometimes (when the sensors enabled) I restart the phone and find that the sensors do not work (Its still enabled in settings menu), and to solve the problem, I disable it then restart the device and then re-enable them.
- The device becomes slower with the passage of time
- Software updater always failed to install python and scribble, even installing using Nokia Ovi Suite failed.
- There a screen bug (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VZsCCaqFxI or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6818wmKbgY or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Au3IzYvNYOs)
Adds:
- Add a way to open (Now playing screen) from media bar at home screen (because the way to open it is long , you should open menu then go to Music then now playing, or from shortcut bar.
- Gallery recognize all multimedia files (images-swf-video) even if it was not located in Image folder or Video folder, this good and bad, so add an option to only searching for multimedia file in the default media folder will be great, because some applications based on swf files or some image files (For example: PowerMp3, Flashlight) make the gallery unorganized.

Usually I do this solution every 4-5 months to solve some problems, but i think this is a foible in Nokia systems!
Whatever, this don't work well for this issue:

Because it was happened from the previous firmware.
Also the biggest problem which I faced is :

I can't find a solution for it , also i noticed that if the phone located in a cold room (AC on 20 degree or lower) the problem will happen, and the lock button can't fix the it immediately.
(I should wait for 5 min. or restart the phone to fix this)
Also this still a problem for me:

So the summary is:

Nokia 5800 won't update to firmware v40.0.005

Hello,
I have tried to update my 5800 using nokia software updater several times( I am currently on v21.0.025), but no luck. The software says that there is no new update available, which is incorrect. I know of people who have updated their phones to v40.0.005 without incident.
I purchased the phone in late December '09 and have been trying to update it since the middle of January 2010. I am at a total loss as to why the noka software updater won't detect the newly available software. Nokia them selves said that the update is available in my country(Ireland).I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software update.

The software says that there is no new update available, which is incorrect
That is correct their is no update yet for your particular model phone .
Phone code and number decide if the update is available .
Stick your product code in here for tthe exact situation today and keep checking every few days .

Hi there,
Today,Nokia sent to my mobile a message that it is a new update!
Because we had many problems with the last update V40.0.005 I decided to make a new topic and when everybody find something wrong with his device will write here!
Attention please: You must be carefull when you write here a "bug" because it could be a good idea to improve our phones!
I would appreciate it if you had attached photo or video with your problem even if it is possible!

i figured out that the aac format files cause the music library to endless refreshing
the problem was solved after converting all my aac to mp3
but what i wan is aac!!!
mp3 takes much mmc spaces!!!

aac file to cause music library endless refreshing is because of the ID3 tag being used
b4 v50 all my aacs were saved using ID3v2
i tried to convert them into earlier version ID3v1 just now , the music library refreshed without causing any trouble, but all the album arts inside the aac files were all gone = =

Nokia 5800 update 50.0.005 Find song is missing?

I've updated my phone to the latest firmware version,but now it seems that option to find a song is missing (you know if you open all songs and if you have about 1000 you want to search for the song that you want,but the *find*option is missing in the options menu) ??? After upgrage to V50.0.005, i am not able to See music files those are available in V40.0.005. Though those are avialble in the music drive of the mobile but not able to retrive 2GB music files. I think the NOKIA testers and developers should do proper testing before release the product. Testers are either poor enough to raise internal bugs or not competant enough to work in the industry. how many times you people are doing sanity, performance, system testing for this firmware?i guess you you people are in a hurry. BUT why higher managements are not taking proper care of such kind of high issues raised by users?
This is really a poor stuffs as far as a SIX sigma company is concern.Send the latest update to solve all kind of issue at once. This is Too much ....

E71 WLAN Bugs

The saga of WLAN issues with E66, E71 and E72 products seems to go back to 2008 or earlier.
Has Nokia actually solved the problem yet ?
I find it very frustrating that I can't reliably connect to our home network or any public ones I try. Generally get the message "No Gateway Reply" though sometimes I'll get to the first page of a site and then get no response when clicking on boxes to explore.

After some days, weeks, of messing about I seem to have some clue as to the issue with WLAN bugging E series users.
Though it may not be relevant, I turned ON the UPnP setting in my Netgear Router which one is generally told to turn off.
Turning QoS (is this the same as as WMM?) on or off seemed to make no difference.
The real breakthrough came when using the WLAN at a friend's place where his DLink router is in the same room as I was seated in. Suddenly WLAN worked consistently and quite quickly on my E71.
At home my router is some distance from my living room. The E71 has always shown a good signal level for my router but only when I moved as close as possible did it start to connect (albeit slowly).
I have to conclude that the real problem is the E series' wireless insensitivity -- the answer (though it's not really an answer) is that it works within fairly close proximity to the source.

E51 New firmware - WLAN bugs

i have already read all posts in this forum about E51 WLAN bugs and i didn't found the solution for this one.
so this is the problem , I have a home WiFi SAGEM f@st 3304 with open acces , since i have updated phone firmware to 200.34.36 i cant connect to this one. when i try to open a web page i get disconnected automatically and when i try to access to router settings from phone i get an "system error" message then i get disconnected , i can connect to others WLAN networks and browsing without any problem else mine.
I've tried to fix it by reinstalling the firmware , but it's still not working.

Problem fixed ! for these who have the same problem i used an app called GnuBox , Debug > use mRouter

5800 V50.0.005 FW Bug, Secure Widget Installer loo...

I installed the new firmware for my 5800, it b0rked. Basically a program called a SecureWidgetPreInstaller goes on a loop, it doesn't finish the installation procedure, rather uses all the available processing power of the cellphone and causes unresponsiveness of a major kind.
I'm not able to force the program to shut down and as such, the phone is unusable. Rebooting doesn't help as the program starts itself automatically during the boot-up.
Any ideas? Comments? Help?

Got no such system error. Did you update via NSU, FOTA or Ovi?
Please note that an existing corruption in the phone during an update may cause the update to go haywire, and as such I strongly advise to hard reset the phone before and after the update, which is why I probably do not get the error.
Now since you guys are having an error, I would suggest to hard reset the phone, reinstall the firmware via NSU or Ovi Suite, then do a hard reset again. The procedure for a hard reset is:
A hard reset (x6, 5800 and 5230 only) is done by the following (warning, this deletes all data on your phone):
1.) Turn off the phone and remove battery for 5min
2.) Reinsert battery
3.) Press and hold the green, red and camera buttons. DO NOT LET GO.
4.) While holding the three buttons, press the power key to boot the phone up.
5.) Keep on pressing until you see the country selection screen.
A correctly done hard reset would show you that everything on the phone (contacts, messages, calendar entries, etc) would be deleted. So it is advisable to back them up. Upon restoration, do not restore settings or files if possible.

Serious Problem after update my 5800 with 40.0.005...

Yesterday,I updated my 5800 with FW 40.0.005. I really impressed with the new easy way of move in touch screen but this version has a big problem that I considered.
First,you have to set as a ring an .mp4 file or any video file and then lock your mobile 5800.
When you have an incomming call the screen isn't working normally and it stops for miliseconds and starts again!
When it happens the power of mobile increasing sharply and I am upset what it could happen if the call continue too much.
Please somebody check it as soon as possible because it may do harm to our mobile by any explosion from this problem!
For temporary solution a suggest not to set video files as a ringtone and if you want to do this don't lock your mobile which helps the video file to work normally.

NO RDS IN Radio Option (It was there in previous all version till V30&31)
Radio application can't be exited in the end

Thumbs of contacts on HS are loading too long
listing files in Settings/App mgr/Installation files takes way too long too
The screen won't turn off when you plugged the power. Same that it won't turn off after you unplugged from power.
Applications cannot be uninstalled. It says "Unable to start the installer" or something like that the radio application could not be quitted
The new SW update doesn't allow me to install updates. It just says fail...
Most of the time, the music player cant be closed and the song will show right on the home screen. my screen backlight also not go off when plug in or unplug the charger
Normally, when your 5800 full charged, it will beep and turn on the screen for couple of seconds. Now it won't turn off once this was triggered.
In Messaging, message won't open on tapping ! The message seems selected, and doesn't respond to tapping(single or double) ... then options for message also doesn't open, only option is to exit messaging
Frequently it happens I must remove SD before I can install/remove programs
video player bugs (many video played improperly, sound played without images. or freeze at some point, but the sound continues

My 5800 appears to have No WLAN option for access ...

I just bought a 5800. I am using a pay as you go service without a data plan. I have a gmail account and want to use M4E to sync my calendar, email and contacts. The only connection options in the setup are Internet and WAP... I want to use my wifi. Why no WLAN option here?

hi my 5800 had wlan ,working fine,then one day all my connections dissapeared.no wlan in connectivity,no internet ,no packed data.
when i open the browser it says "select connection" and under it it says "no data",
anybody got any advice?
