5850 Twin Frozr 2 Problem?

Hi All,
I'm new to the forum but my 5850 Twin Frozr 2 today seems to have failed in some way. I am getting multicolour dots around my screen and on web pages stuff flashes and moves about.
Should I assume my card is dead and is there anything I can do fix it?
Here is a screenshot:

Sorry did not read through before posting.
I have put my system specs below and here is what my diagnosis so far:
Problem:
Started getting black flickers in the middle of a game of Supreme Commander
Exited to windows and how have blue and green dots on task-bar and flickering web pages.
Fixes Attempted:
Checked temps and seem ok and removed all dust from card.
Also tried heating it up a bit and didn't seem to do much.
Any other ideas much appreciated?
Thanks,
Chris

  • Radeon 5850 twin frozr 2 GSOD issues

    Hello everyone,
It's my first post so let me introduce me : i'm a 25 years old french programmer living in Montpellier France.
I've got a Radeon 5850 twin frozr II from a friend but i've got some GSOD prob with furmark and games.
Some games like skyrim can be playable with no GSOD but battlefield III has GSOD within 1 or 2 minutes playing...
I've tried to undervolt my vcore with afterburner and furmark can work but no games work (black screen and driver crash).
I've tried to overvolt my vcore but the GSOD come instantly in games with that.
So my question is simple : Is there a solution (new bios from msi maybe)? I've got an Q6600, 4gb ram on a gygabite EP45-DSR3 mobo and the latest drivers from amd.
    Thank you for your consideration.

    ok ok.
So I've got 4 gB of OCZ platinum DDR2 6400 (2.1V), my PSU is the corsaire HX620 with three +12V rails rated at 18A each. 3 DD, 2 DVD writers, 1 usb keyboard, 1 usb mouse.
My Q6600 is OC @ 3.2Ghz (FSB 400 en cpu vcore @ 1.41V to be totally stable).
I've tried to get back my cpu to stock, but it has changed nothing. For example, I've just finished a session of skyrim and there was no prob (2 hours) and just after I've tried Battlefield 3 and I've got a GSOD 2 minutes after start playing...
To resume, with or without overclocking, this changes nothing for the GSOD.
Before the twin frozr 5850, i've got a geforce GTX275 twin frozr OC and there was no problems...

  • MSI Afterburner and voltage setting + 5850 Twin Frozr II

Seems Afterbuner is not working with the Radeon HD 5850 Twin Frozr II.
When I change the voltage or the settings didn't apply or the voltage applyed is 0.935v and the card crash 10s after.
    I tried: Afterburner 1.41, 2.0, 2.1, 1.51, 1.60, 1.61 and 2.2 BETA X
No way to apply the voltage I want.
Is it a know issue ? how to solve it ?
fyi: I tried Afterburner + Asus 6850 DCU and it's working fine, no problems

perhaps this vga doesn't support voltage adjustment.

  • 5850 twin frozr artifacting!

My 5850 that I've had about 8 months is displaying some nasty artifacts.  It started when playing 3D games; it looked like vectors were shooting everywhere.  It does this in every game I own at any quality setting.  I haven't tried to see if the game, or my computer, will crash because I exit out of the game after just a few moments since it's obvious something is wrong.
Also, it is artifacting in videos.  I'm getting little specks all over the video window, yet everything else on the screen is clear.
I am running at stock clock settings with latest BIOS and drivers.  Temps seem fine, currently idling at 26C with 30% fan.
Has my card died?  I already had to RMA my first one a month after I got it, but for a different problem.

The problem remains with everything at stock settings.

edit: I also am getting strange "stray" pixels in IE9.  This doesn't happen in any other program, only IE.
edit 2: I just downloaded Firefox and it still does the same thing.

Nevermind.  I adjusted some settings that I had forgotten about in CCC and everything is running a-ok.
Use >>Driver Sweeper<< in "Safe Mode"
to remove current vga drivers, then reboot and boot to normal mode,
and install msi vga drivers for your card: http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R5850-Twin-Frozr-II.html#/?div=Driver&os=All
reboot and see how its goes

  • Brand new 5850 twin frozr II idle fan speed loud!

I've just got a new one of these and just put it in and the fans idling at 55%
idle temps are 30-31c. So why the hell would you fan spin up to 55% to cool down from 30c
I had a sapphire 5850 and I had an xfx for crossfire which busted so I opted for the msi twin frozr becuase it has had many good reviews
I can put the fan speed down to 22% in afterburner but as soon as I put it back to auto it goes straight back to 55%.
I have tried un installing CCC + drivers and removing all ATI related folders then re downloading from the ati website but that doesn't fix it.
    Any ideas?

I've tried the live update utility and it doesn't pick up any new BIOS for it.
No where else I can get them from as its saturday and they only reply monday-friday
If the card is working fine otherwise, then have some patience and contact MSI support for the updated BIOS, as Svet already recommended.

  • New GTX - 580 twin frozr Problem

Hi guys, new to this forum.... Its a good one, plenty of experts, thats what makes a forum good
I built a new machine for Battlefield 3 in November. I ordered this:
MSI GeForce GTX 580 OC Twin FrozR II 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card [V255-040
From the start I've been getting the black screen crash, minimise with sound still continuing in the background (not sound loop error) crash and the odd "display driver has crashed and recovered" crash.
I've done all the usual stuff, formats, reinstalls, new sound cards, drivers etc, I've never tried the update gpu bios trick, would it work here? I have it at stock, even on afterburner as i dont know the overclocking settings to try. Or the max i can use. Some say i should increase the voltage?
    Any thoughts?
thanks guys. 6months at it now :O

Quote from: irishfireman on 01-May-12, 19:29:29
ok setting the voltage to 1038 helped a bit. but it crashed again today. going to try the other voltage.
I just noticed that bench testing with fumark, it said that my card was being throttled. And the temp wont rise above 52 - 53 degrees celcius. The minute the game crashed the temp was 53 degrees. Is there something stopping the gpu performing? System is well air cooled. and i've manually ramped up the fan speed. Any thoughts?
    what vga drivers you use?

    Hey whats up
Just bought an AMD 5850 Twin Frozr II yesterday.

Went to Additional Features -> Increase overdrive limit -> Method 1 (Hash) -> Load...
Loaded the signature file from asus's reference 5850 with unlocked clocks
Saved the bios and flashed it using atiwinflash 2.0.1.14
    Reboot
And here goes nothing. Just a black screen.

  • Msi GTX 560 Twin Frozr II - Problem

    Hey folks,
Im having a problem with my Msi GTX 560 Twin Frozr II video card.
I can't make it work with my monitor, all I get is "No signal detected"
I know the monitor is fine, because I used it as it worked all good when I plugged it into
my laptop. It's a BenQ G2222HDL monitor btw. It has one VGA (D-sub) and one Dvi-D input.
So i've tried all types of cables (VGA, Dvi-D and even Hdmi cables), and
still, can't get no signal. What can I possibly do to make things work?
Also, my computer acts a bit wierd when it's starting up. Usually, I would turn it on, then it would turn itself off really quick. Then I turn it on again,
and it goes just fine and runs smoothly. After I changed the position of some RAM modules
and such, it changed. Now when I turn it on, the fans spin for 1 and there's just a tiny bit of noise until
it turns itself off. Then I turn it on again, and it goes just fine with all fans and stuff spinning.
So, I really need some help!

Power Supply - Corsair HX Series 750 Watt Modular 80 plus silver (ATX 12v 63 amp)
Haven't got a chance to install os, but will install Windows 7 64Bit.
    The monitor is a BenQ 21,5" LED G2222HDL (1920 x 1080, 5000000:1, 5ms, VGA/DVI-D)
More background info; I build the computer myself. Everything went mostly fine, except for that I had to spend quite a long time to get everything right.
I started the machine, and it all went just fine (except for rebooting and then running smoothly, as it has done ever since). I did the MemOK! test and everything seemed to be fine. But when using the VGA cable that came with the monitor, I couldn't get any signal detected (I used a VGA to DVI adapter to plug the VGA cable into the Msi 560 TI videocard). I used 2 different adapters, but nothing happened. I tried with a HDMI cable, just to test, and that did not work either. Then, I figured out I should order a DVI-D cable.
So I ordered the cable, and went on to plug it into my monitor and my video card, no adapters needed. Still, no signal at all! Tried a different monitor to check if it was the monitor's fault. Nope, still no signal. Frustrated, I used the VGA cable again and tried to plug the monitor into the laptop, which worked just fine. A clear, bright image appeared. But not with my desktop computer with the Msi GTX 560 Twin Frozr II. Nothing works when I plug in the cables etc. No signal at all, although the computer itself seems to run just fine with fans spinning up and the different components making noise etc. Thus, I figured out there probably was something wrong with my Msi Geforce GTX 560 TI Twin Frozr II. Now I dont really know what to do.
Does anyone have an answer/advice/possible solution to my problem? I'm getting a tad frustrated now, seeing as I bought this computer 2 weeks ago and still haven't got to use it yet.

  • Graphics problems with MSI Twin Frozr II GTX460 768

    Hi,
My previous video card, a BFG 9800 GTX died, so I bought a GTX460 Twin Frozr II 768 and installed it a week ago.  (I also bought 2 more gb of RAM at the same time).  I'm now having several problems with the computer.  My DVD player is no longer recognized for some reason, maybe there's a conflict somewhere?  But the thing directly related to the video card is that whenever I enter a graphics-heavy game such as Dawn of War 2, it works for a few minutes, then everything freezes for about 5 seconds, after which there is massive graphics corruption.  Colors are often inverted to their negatives (blacks become white, for instance), writing is illegible and corrupted, etc.  One time after doing this the computer crashed with an error message stating the NV4 driver.dll had failed.  This happens nearly every time I try to play a game, but there are no apparent problems with web surfing, watching movies, or anything else.
I have searched the web and found many instances of this problem and I've tried many of the solutions, with no success:  I've reinstalled the latest drivers several times, doing clean installs each time.  I've used a Driver Cleaner, even tried doing a Windows System Restore.  I've gone in manually to see if there were duplicate NV4.dlls, which 1 place said is sometimes the problem, and there aren't.  I've run a registry cleaner and tune up program, which another person said fixed his problems, but it didn't help me.  I've even turned down the clock rate and speeds (underclocked from factory settings) the video card by a significant amount, and that didn't help.
Does anyone have any suggestions?  Do you think it's a hardware problem with the new video card?  If so, should I RMA it to the online retailer I bought it from or MSI directly?  I hate to lose use of my computer again while it is mailed to them and another card is mailed back, though.  I'm not even sure if the card is the problem...

  • Gtx 580 twin frozr II/oc problem

I'm having problem with my gtx 580 twin frozr II/OC. everything is running fine but it crushes or video card lose focus when I run 3dmark 11 or try to play crysis. video output works fine, it plays metro 2033, star craft 2, dead space 2 just fine. It passed 1 hour of furmark stability test fine, 1 hour of OCCT test fine, passed OCCT memory test fine too. I didn't overclock it so it's at factory overclocked speed of 823mhz and idle temp is at 35c, gaming max temp during metro 2033 is 77c, OCCT test max temp was 88c. so I know it's not overheating problem. I have used both nvidia driver or 263.09 and 266.58, same result. it crushes during cutscene or after cutscene of crysis(i hear sound but no visual) and lose focus after initial loading on 3dmark11. vga bio is 70.10.17.00.01 and i am running on windows 7 64 bit ultimate edition. yes, i have updated to latest version of crysis and 3dmark11 too. still, the same. Is something wrong with this card during manufacturer place or what? I don't think this is just my problem coz according to newegg review, there were customers complain about this card gets crush during crysis. I also own gtx 570 from other brand and I was using it b4 I've got msi gtx 580 twin frozr II/oc. It didn't have any problem like this. Anyone know what's causing this? any help? I don't think RMA would help this problem at all coz card is not broken and works fine on everything just fine with no error or artifacts besides those two(3dmark11 and crysis).

  • MSI GTX 580 Twin Frozr 2/OC Problems

Hey guys, I just build my second new(er) computer (specs below, system 2), with this MSI GTX 580 Twin Frozr 2/OC, and I am having several problems. The first problem I noticed was was in Starcraft 2, I was having major texture stretching (looked like units were stretched across the map, exc.), so I tried a new driver to no avail. I delt with that problem and played for several hours to find that the screen turned black, then recovered (happened several times), which I was able to continue playing after. I went ahead and tried Battlefield Bad Company 2, and noticed the same texture stretching, but with big black shapes (almost looked like large artifacts), so I checked the temps, 74c, so that was not the problem. I continued playing for about 5 minutes before the screen went black, turned white, and the game became unresponsive. Thinking it was a possible PSU problem, I moved the card to my first system (specs below, system 1), and produced the same results.
Does anyone have any ideas, or is it time to RMA the card. Sad thing is, I am seeing alot of people having problems with this card, I hope MSI didn't do me wrong here.... :(
P.s. I flashed the newest BIOS for the VGA and the MoBo.

Unfortunately it has, and the artifacting only seems to get worse as time goes on (if the card/game doesn't crash right away that is...). I guess RMA'ing is my only option at this point, thanks for your help.
I'll chock it up to a defective card this time, but seeing all the problems with these similar cards from MSI is making me worried... I only hope MSI didn't do me dirty with this product.
No worries, call msi at +1.626.271.1004 within regular business days and they will take care of it

  • MSI Twin Frozr 560 Ti problem

So I've had my 560 ti for about a month or so and I've been having trouble with it during the past few weeks.  Basically I have artifact tearing in any game I try to play (wow, sc2, etc).  It gets really bad at times even has lead to a few crashes.  I had it o/c for about two weeks but then started having problems so since I've set it back to the default but the problems persist.  Anytime that I've ran Kombustor I've never had any problems but anytime I'm in a game I will start to see artifact tearing.  I don't have any heating problems.  I've checked to ensure that it is secure in my case as well making sure the wires are all in tight.   I've searched the forums for a while on here trying to see if I could fix it myself but I wasn't successful.

if you can test with different and more powerfull PSU

  • R7850 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC - Flickering problem

    Hi all!
I have a problem that many seems to have with the 7850 card (Same for different brands) -
When I surf on the net, I get a lot of flickering when scrolling a page. This is the same with all browsers - Firefox, Chrome, IE.
Turning off hardware acceleration in Firefox lessens the problem, but it's still there.
I read on an external page (Not allowed to link) that this is due to low 2D clock speeds.
One user also reported that Gigabyte fixed this with a BIOS update, so I wonder if MSI also have released such a thing?
Btw, tried the workaround with editing the profiles.xml and manually set the clocks higher, which fixed the problem, but this isn't optimal as the clock then works on high load when not needed.
    Thanks in advance!

    To clarify the error report:
Everything works perfect except for web surfing where I get strange millisecond long flickers/flashes, when scrolling a page.
If I check the AMD OverDrive, then I can see that the core speed is 150MHz, and the RAM speed is 300MHz as minimum and then goes higher when I scroll a page. And as I wrote, if i manually change those values in "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\profiles .xml" to work for example in 700Mhz as minimum, then the problem is gone, but with the cost that the clocks works on too high values for what's actually needed when the system is idle.
