5900 Non Ultra

hello,
I tried to update my MSI Geforce Fx 5900 Non ultra 128mb bios from Rev 1 to Rev2 and also tried from REV 1 to Rev3. Both times it tells me Error:Board ID mismatch firmware update (3505) and Board ID (3500). But when i try to change bios from REV1 to the same REV1 it works. I want to update my bios because it seemed to help a lot of people.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

So can I flash the bios?

Hey, I just got the 5900 non Ultra and ran both 3dmark 2001 SE and 3dmark 2003.
My score for 2001 was 11200 (Very low score, My Ti 4200 got 10600 for crying out loud)
    My 2003 score was a nice 5100.
Why is My 2001 score so low while My 2003 score is right where it should Be?
The 5900 non ultra should be scoring around 15000-17000 in the 2001 SE benchmark.
I'm not running any AA or antistropic- I run default benchmark, My rig is:
    2.2 (Northwood-the slower 400 fsb)
    1 gig RDRam
    Audigy
    40 Gig HD
    Directx 9.b
    nvidia 45. drivers

Hmmm well, With Everything high in UT 2003 Demo,Screen Res 1280 x 1024 (or whatever that res is lol)
and AA set to 4x and AF set to 8x I averaged about 50-60, with AA at 8x and AF 8x I averaged about 25- sometime it dipped to 20 and rose to 35- it was just barely playable, but it was playable-
Can anyone tell Me what the average fps is in these bencjmark readings? Is FPS the score or what cuz where it says FPS after the 3'rd # that can't be right- look at first one- FPS is 523?

  • MSI GeForce FX5700 TD128(non Ultra) MEMORY BANDWIDTH

    Hello to all...
I have 1 question please. I want to know the real memory bandwidth for MSI
GeForce FX5700 TD128(memory: Samsung). I found on MSI website this :
GeForce FX 5700 Graphics Core: 256-bit
    Memory Interface: 128-bit
    Memory Bandwidth: 14.4GB/sec.
    Fill Rate: 1.7 billion pixels/sec.
    Vertices/sec. 356 million
    Memory Data Rate: 550 MHz
    Pixels per Clock (peak): 4
    Textures per Pixel: 16
    RAMDACs 400 MHz
in MSI FX Series Quick User's Guide i found No. for memory bandwidth 8,8!!! GB/sec(MSI GeForce FX5700 TD128)
    Quick User's Guide Version: 5.0, November 2003, G52-V1NFX07
    Please remail and explain.
    Thanks
    TT

14.4 is the bandwidth for the Ultra so I assume it isn't the same on the non ultra.
You can calculate it by finding the rated timing of the memory chips and therfore the memory clock (approximatly).
For instance 2.8ns (should be marked on the chip -28) is 1/2.8ns=357MHz.
Using DDR it is effectively 714MHz, and using 128bit wide BUS you get 11.4GB/S

  • This 5700 non ultra kinda blows

I recently got the Geforce FX 5700 td128.. it's not the LE or the ultra..
It was to replace my geforce 4 ti4400 with 128.  The fan was going out on it.  I figured the 5700 would smoke it but it's actually taking performance hits up the yazoo.  It can't seem to handle bump mapping.  I ran a 3dmarks03 on it and I got about 2301 which sounds like a better rating then I got on the ti card but yet the ti card handled bump mapping fine.  Now I have to disable bump mapping in games like Hitman contracts and Bloodrayne.  Otherwise it's butt slow.  I swear i'm even getting a lil lag even on my desktop.
I used nvidia's latest drivers that were released two weeks ago.  I also played with directx 9c.  No change.. I then tried the detonator drivers released in april on a clean install.. no change.. Soo now I'm using the most current msi drivers for the card.. a little better.  But I notice the slow down each time the level starts then it seems to build back up.  It's just like the card has a bit of a lag.
Prolly should saved up the extra 50 and gotten the 5900xt or whatever it is.. sigh..

Well first off your processor is a 2.8 running at what was it.. 800mhz? I'm running a 2.53 running at 533 mhz. Second.. yer running the MSI FX5700 VTD256 while I'm running the MSI FX5700 TD128. So you have twice the ram which I'm sure makes a difference and a higher end processor and if I remember right that plays a factor.. Isn't the 256 model the ultra?
Hey Deviancy... first off yes I do have a higher spec processor compared to you, but that shouldn't influence your 3dm03 scores (and it doesn't BTW). The card I have isn't an ultra version either.. its a regular 5700 with 256MB VRAM with the same default frequencies (425 core/ 500 mem).... and the 256MB version is only marginally better at normal resolutions used in 3dm03. Not for the sake of arguing... just pointing out the facts. :hypecrite:
I would recommend that you get a 5900XT or a 9800pro if you decide to change your card, though before you do so try to check the frequencies at which the card is operating... I've never heard of an under clocked 5700 that isn't an LE , but its worth a try... If nothing works, you can try either formatting your computer or jsut giving up on the card... Like I said before, it could well be a faulty card..
    Cheers!!

  • What's da diffrence between Ultra n non Ultra

    I don't know about this
    FX 5600 Ultra VTD - Fx5600 VTDR
    Some one plz tell me
    thanks

The ultra is about 20% faster ( due to incresed GPU and mem clock speeds )

  • Right PSU for 6800, non Ultra or GT

I'll clarify that: its the GeForce 6800 OEM AGP version.
My PC company rightly said that the GT requires a 350w PSU, and that the Ultra needs a 420-480w PSU
My one is lower range than either Ultra or GT.
Yet it does have a fan, and also heatsinks top and bottom.
What I'd like to know from the boffins here is whether my FSP 250-60 GTV(PF) will cover it.
The PC company says yes but I am beginning to have my doubts
If any of you blokes could add an extra dimension, I'd be heaps grateful
I'm due to take delivery of it on either May 26th, or May 27th.
If I know one way or the other I'll be able to take a prompt decision
    Thanks

I'm going for the    Akasa Paxpower Ultra Quiet 460w ATX2.0 PSU (blue LED)
With dual 12v rails, the specs pass that calc with flying colours
    3.3v = 30A; 5v = 30A; 12v(1) = 14A; 12v(2) = 15A
Lots of the reviews from Trusted Raeviews.com rate it very highly
For £56+ P&P, its worth the investment
    I'll probably order it Tuesday
There's a final new post about this entitiled Many Thanks to Supershanks and all, it has the same stuff as this modified one, so if it's superfluous, delete it....lol
    Many Thanks, Supershanks

  • Overclocking MSI fx5200 non ultra 128

i tried going to display propertys then mis clock but does not work. does any one know where i can get pionter on over clocking this card

    Fujimoto,
Make a file called AGPSettings.reg with notepad and add this to it:
    Quote
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARENVIDIA CorporationGlobalNVTweak]
    "Coolbits"=dword:ffffffff
    "NvCplEnableHardwarePage"=dword:00000001
    "NvCplEnableAGPSettingsPage"=dword:00000001xxx
Save it on your desktop and launch it. It will add that to your Registy and open all the extra tweaks for your Video Card.
There are plenty of tweaks you can do from there.  In there you will find the core and RAM clock settings.
    Take Care,
    Richard
P.S. Now you have me chasing you around different threads.  :D

There really is little hope of things improving.  Tomb Raider was a "The Way its Meant to Be Played" game, i.e. Nvidia payed them $$$ to make it run best on their hardware, and it doesn't - in fact, the way they have rectified the situation is by removing the DX9 features and benchmark feature in the latest TR:AOD patch, and having EIDOS state that Tomb Raider runs great on Nvidia cards (for real, this actually happened).  Half Life 2 has a custom mixed (FP16/FP32) precision path for FX5900 (NV3x) and it still loses out by a good 20% to the Raedon 9800 cards.  At full precision, its half the speed of a 9800 and slower than a $200 Raedon 9600PRO!  The fundamental problem with NV3x is that it cant handle a large amount of temp registers and its only a 4x2 design, which is the opposite of what the DX9 HLSL assumes the hardware uses by default.  Therefore, unless every company makes custom NV3x paths, the $500 FX5900 Ultra will probably perform on part with a $200 Raedon 9600 in DX9 intensive games.  And, even if they do make a path, it will sacrifice IQ and the 5900 still can't seem to beat the 9800.  I have a MSI 5900 non-ultra, and believe me this news pisses me off.  Nvidia's NV3x line is simply too slow to run DX9 at full precision/default settings, and will need seperate special custom programming for every single DX9 game that comes out.  Only problem is, in a year or so, I seriously doubt devs will still be writing custom paths for 1-2 year old NV3x hardware when NV4x is out.  So NV3x users will be forced to slog along at slow fps or buy a new video card.  Sounds grim, but looks like the truth.  The beta det50s only made a 10-20% speed increase, too, which doesn't help things much.  Also, the 9800PRO runs Nvidia's own Dawn demo with a wrapper at about much faster than the FX5900, while looking better.  And Dawn is probably the most optimized for Nvidia you can get... Plus its OpenGL!
The only bright side of NV3x is that it will run Doom3 based OpenGL games well.  Unfortunately, DX9 is likely what the majority of games will use.
If I could get my $419 back, I would in a flash.  Not only is the FX5900 a DX9 under-performer, but it has strange problems like the scroll noise as well.

Yes, I think it will fit, I can't see any reason it should not. Both the northbridge and the ram slots are far away from the agp.
I have a chaintech 7NJS, and it is no problem with that, even people said when it arrived that bigger vga wouldn't fit.

  • Downgrade vga bios

    Hi ,
I have a NX6600GT VTD128 and I have updated  ( big mistake ) the vga bios to the latest version using Live update.
The current bios is 5.43.02.64.00 but I don't have the previous one.
The thing is that i lost the temp readings from the display manager .
Is there any way I can retrieve the previous bios version?
I did the upgrade because I had some artifacts when using 3d models in Autocad and when playing games ( Freelancer ) and I still
having them even after formatting the HDD.
After formatting I use first the MSI drivers , I unistall them and use the latest NV drivers (Fware 93.71 )
    Still the same.
    thanks

Coolbits is simply a small file that adds registry entries so that hidden capabilities in the nVidia settings panel become available.  You can get Coolbits from Guru3D, http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=815 .   RivaTuner has even more capabilities, http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner&menu=8

    Software Description
Coolbits 2 unleashes hidden function within ForceWare drivers, it enables several new Direct3d and OpenGL configuration tabs, and even more tweaking capability from the nVidia taskbar settings panel.
    FAQ:
    Q. I dont see the temperature settings, is this due to my card?
    A. The temp settings panel is only available with cards equipped with thermal sensors. Some cards that I know of have temp sensors are 5700 Ultra, 5800 Ultra, 5900 non-Ultra and Ultra, and 5950 ultra. But really it all comes down to the manufacturer. I have seen some 5700 and 5900 without temp sensor, but mainly the cheaper XT/LX/SE versions.
    Q. The Fan always on doesn`t seem to work
    A. The 'fan always on' option is for cards with the OTES (i.e. 5800U) or similar cooling system in which shuts off in 2d mode. It will force fan on even in 2D mode. Of course this means the fans on the hs/f be designed such a way that this option can work.
    Q. I thought it enabled Opengl 2.0. It doesn't though.
    A. OpenGL Shading Language 2.0 can only be enabled on 55.xx and higher Forceware drivers. It had not yet been implemented in older Detonator or pre 55 Forceware drivers.
    Q. Where is the application profiles page?
    A. It has been disabled to allow for OpenGL and Direct3d tabs. You can re-enable the application profiles page by changing its respective value to 1 in the coolbits file.
If you experience any minor problems, simply uninstall/reinstall your display driver. I would recommend using Driver Cleaner as well, especially when switching driver versions.
Unpack the achive (self extracting) and then in the setup directory simply click on the .reg file. To get to these options simply right-click on your desktop and go to 'NVIDIA Analog Display' (Win XP/2003). For Win 2000 and lower you may need to get to the Nvidia Control Panel the old way. Right click desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > GeForce xxxx
*NOTE: Coolbits 2 is not fully compatible with driver versions older than 55.xx. If you do happen to run this tweak with drivers older than 55.xx you will more than likely get errors at startup! To enable full compatibility, you must disable the options that are causing issues with your current setup.

  • 9800 Pro Saphire or FX 5900 Ultra

which one is deserving of the big bucks.
Of the ones who have them would you buy it again?
What are your opinions, Cons, Pros??

I had a Ti4600 and now an FX5900 and I can say the differance is huge.
It's true nothing makes use of DX9 yet, but the ability to run at high resolutions with AA and AF enabled is well worth it (oh well, I didn't actually pay for the cards).
As for choosing which one of the above, consider saving 100$ and getting a 9800 (non pro) or FX5900 (non ultra) since the preformance differance isn't all that big, but it's still a tough descition to make.
You might want to toss a coin or something like that

  • FX5600-VTDR128 or FX5600 Ultra Nbox 256Mb

I'm trying to choose between these two but have a question...
As I understand it, the VTDR's GPU clock runs at 325 Mhz, and the 128Mb memory runs at 550 Mhz.
but the FX5600 Ultra's GPU clock runs at only 235 MHz core but has 256Mb of  memory running at 800 MHz .
Is this correct and if so, which gives the best performance, the faster clock or the larger faster memory????
The Nbox has a better games bundle, the VTDR a handy remote - but these wont influence my choice - just the performance.
    Thanks
    Nezza

Thanks for the reply PoRsChE, and yes I agree with you, but......
I'm not really a gamer, so ultimate perf' ain't as issue.
I mainly want either of the FX56's because:
    1. They're not ATI's (have had BIG issues with compatability)
    2. I mainly need the ViVo function of the card (hence I don't need the extra speed of the 5700)
    3. I like the design of the MSI cards (they go with my illuminated case - yeah, I know, but what the heck!
    4. They are at my price limit!
As I can afford either, it makes sense to go for the one with the better performance, just in case.
As I said, I'm not really a gamer, but I fancy the software package of the Nbox, but then the remote of the VTDR would be handy, so in that, I have no preference.
Big question, though is why is the clock speed of the Ultra so much lower than the non-ultra (or have i been miss-informed!)
    Cheers

  • 5900 FX TD-128: Optimal Overclocking

Wow, this card is quiet.  It is 'marginally' faster than the VisionTek Geforce 4600Ti, but that is superficial since most games are still optimized for DirectX 8.0
I am curious about the over-clocking utility, but I do want to 'baby' this card.  I am curious if any of you have a particular setting you are fond of when you use the overclocking utility.  I would like to see if I could bump up the frame-rates, but I am not looking for 5900 FX Ultra results.

    jspurlin,
I do not believe there will be any games that will be out for a long time that will require overclocking for an FX5900 to keep up.
But if you want to overclock your hard, I am not going to tell you to do otherwise. I am just going to tell you to be careful.
