5900 Ultra Flickering Problems

There appears to be a growing concern by Nvidia to both NVIDIA and competitor’s cards which are experiencing similar problems that are described as "flickering, rolling lines or quivering in different forum posts. So much so that Nvidia has posted a sticky on Nvnews:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showindex.php?s=&threadid=16032&pagenumber=1
It appears that it might be AGP related and that in order to fix the problem card manufacturers will have to re-modelled.
If this is so will we be able to return our cards to get the newer model which should be noise free, flicker free, etc......

A lot depends on your current hardware, that is the question you should be asking yourself when considering a VGA upgrade. (It's important to investigate compatability with your hardware)
Since you gave us nothing to go on, that's the best answer I could come up with.
PS mine works flawlessly so far. They seem to be having problems with the nForce delta boards running in 8x mode, but I am pretty confident it will be resolved eventually.
RAM timings and setting the BIOS AGP setting to 4x can cure some of the problems until such fixes are introduced. 8X is not really being utilized currently as the games on the market are not using that bandwidth yet, so it's no major loss.
You may also want to consider the fact that PCI express is coming soon and will change things around quite a bit, so if you already have a decent card like a ti4200 or a 4600 then you may want to consider trudging along for another year till PCI express comes along. It really boils down to what you are willing to spend atm.

    NVIDIA was made aware of an issue involving the GeForce FX 5900 series of graphics cards where some users have reported a slight "flickering" of the image on their screen, visible on a light color background in certain 3D scenes.
    In examining the information available, NVIDIA has determined that the issue may involve an interaction between select combinations of the graphics card, system, monitor, other electronic components and the application which creates noise or signal interference.
    If you are experiencing this issue on a GeForce FX 5900 or GeForce FX 5900 Ultra card, you can download this driver fix (9.28 MB). It is available on our affiliate sites:

    If you experience any other issues - please email us at [email protected]
    Other web sites hosting these drivers include:

    O.K, I took a chance & Just installed em right over the Omega drivers and the flickering has stopped in games and it appears I still have the capabilities of the Omega drivers such as overclocking, AGP settings, artifacts testing, and Texture sharpening as well as performance/high performance/Quality settings for the Omega Drivers.
    I haven't tested to see if these still work or not Yet- But I will & report back what I find.
    The Flickering Has Stopped- Kudo's To Nvidia for the fix- Now, If I can just stop My Eyes from flickering I'll be all set =)
    BTW, For anyone that is interested, These Omega Drivers are sanctioned By Nvidia so to speak (They've given the developpers permission & Blessings I guess to modify the drivers for performance as well as Quality optimizations)
    My 3dmark 2003 score went from 4913 with the 45.23 drivers from Nvidia to 5122 with these Omega drivers installed under the performance  installation (There are 2 installations, one for Quality and one for  performance-I chose performance)
    The good thing about these drivers is You just instal directly over the Nvida drivers- No worries-it tells You right in the help file to do this-So no leangthy uninstals and clean reinstals are necessary =)
    With these drivers, You get an overclock setting (Which is nice because it has a utility built right in to test Your new settings on the fly) and You get a new agp settings GUI too- check em out, they are nice drivers for sure.

  • FX 5900 Ultra 3D games a crashin

    Hi,
    3D games a crashin
    The problem is whether anti-aliasing or anisotropic filtering are on or off, my games crash.  One minute SOF is fine for two whole levels then the next damn day it crashes before I even get into a server.  Thats just about any game.  Soldier of fortune 2, Delta Force Blackhawk Down, Midnight Club 2.
    i updated my motherboard with the 7.4 bios update successfully without errors and it didn't seem to help.  I have the Leadtek FX 5900 Ultra installed and its the only card installed.  The new nvidia drivers did not fix this.
    I am running Windows ME and installed the direct X9 update from microsofts windows ME page.
    Now the 7.4 update is way beyond correcting any Kingston memory issues, and I even went to kingstons site to get the settings.
    I tried nvidias new 45.23's and they are not compatible with Leadteks PVR software wich i need to do capture.
    Let me list everything that is drawing power from my 420 watt Enlight Dual Fan power supply
    AMD XP 2800 Barton 2.08 ghz not overclocked
    K7N2DeltILSR (7.4 bios installed)
    Kingston HyperX PC2700 (set to 2-2-2-5 and 2.6v in bios)
    Leadtek A350 5900 Ultra My Vivo on 44.03's
    Seagate 20gig 2mbcache 7200rpm
    Pioneer 16x slot DVD
    TDK 12x10x32 VeloCD
    Floppy
    120mm case fan
    2x 80mm rail fans in server
    1 60mm 7000rpm CPU fan on heatsink
    all under good ol WinME
    or....
    Is this OS related?  Will Windows XP fix my problem? anyway here is my specs
    Is that possibly all too much for Power supply?  Does the Ultra 5900 require a 500+watter

    Death Stalker,
    I clicked on the by connections option in DM and I noticed that the card is on IRQ5 and so is the PCI OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
    Here is what I have tried most recently.  MemtestX86 ver 3.0.  Let it run for about an hour and 20 minutes and go through all of its tests 5 times in a row.  Memory is fine.  Then I said hey my hardrive is a little old and maybe its got some bad cluster.  I let scandisk go examining its surface for 3 hours and its just fine.  I shut off all extra speedy stuff in my motherboards bios like suggested at the MSI forum.  Still the same thing.  I'll be in a match of Soldier of Fortune 2 for sometimes 30 minutes and then suddenly freeze time.  Once in a while I actually get to the blue screen with an error code that is always the same, today I wrote down the windows millennium error message:
    Error:  OE:    0177:   Bff14E01
    Would this help you guys tell me if its my video card or motherboard that needs to be replaced?

  • 5900 Ultra with only 128 mb DDR ?

    Hello people!
    I just bought a nBox with a GeForce FX 5900 Ultra with 256 mb DDR. But after installing the latest driver (5214) provided by MSI, I've just discovered that my VGA Card has only 128 mb DDR. I found it strange because I don't know any Ultra version with 128 mb.
    I'd like to have the help of yours to solve this problem. What can be the solution? A new BIOS version? (I don't find any in Live Update 3) A new diferent driver? Taking the Card back to the vendor?
    Please people! Help me about this problem.
    Thank You All!

    Tell me if I'm a mile off here by all means, but something weird happened with my system a couple of days ago.  The AGP card in my Sig until a couple of days ago was doing exactly as described above and was strangely reporting.....
    Total Local Video Memory @ 256mb
    Total Local Texture Memory @ 256mb....and then frustratingly....
    Total AGP Memory @ 128mb
    .....Obviously it should have been reporting @ 256mb and I also thought I had a duff card too after trying a whole manner of the usual tricks to try and locate the source of the problem and sort it.  I know it's not the mentioned 5900 too, but it did it all the same and depending on what Application you use to view that information as well,  then unless you had one that would report more detailed info like above, if merely using Control Panel for example, then it would report just the Total AGP of 128mg (clearly incorrectly so)).
    Then, I brought the new Monitor also now in my Sig those couple of days ago and installed the Drivers for it, that's the only thing that has changed on my system for a while.....
    I read this thread straight away with interest on seeing it after noticing my FX5600 doing the exact same, and on reaing these posts I went back to double check it again, and I have just found that mine is now correctly reporting at 256mb...HHHhhhMMmmmm.  Now it could well be coincidence, but it does seem that in my case either the Monitor itself or the improved Drivers specifically for it sorted it instantly strangely enough, maybe something to try, you just never know sometimes do you.  The old Monitor wasn't exactly crap either (that was a 17" Samsung Syncmaster 750s, which very soon I'll also be plugging that in too for a Dual Monitor capability and hope that on sodoing that the problem doesn't return either, but if it did I'd be able to tell you for certain too obviously)!!!
    I'm wondering if the ONLY other thing that may have had an influence is I used the AGP Display "D.O.T" and set that up to the "Commander" Setting too??  As said, other than that NOTHING at all has been changed on my system for a fair while!!!
    In all probability it won't, but maybe there's an outside chance that this occurence is relatedas the FX5600 and the 5900 aren't that disimilar or detached from one another when all is said and done either other than the blatantly obvious lol!!
    I'm posting in hope that maybe it could be of use after reading your posts and otherwise hope that those concerned are sorted and rid of the issue in the near future too, good luck !!

  • Facing "Display Flickering" problem with my 15" macbook pro(A1286)while swapping the desktops and closing the tabs.....need help...reply soon

    Suggest Solution for this Display Flickering problem ....

    Hi, I read the post about calibration and I probably do that a little too often TBH! As I get so little time out the battery and mainly use my MBP on my lap, usually with the power supply near by, it gets charged to full, run to empty to the point of sleep, or sometimes it even cuts out and then is recharged to full again, so I really think it's new battery time. I've seen non Apple Official ones for between £35 and £65 that have 3 year warranties and state they are around 5200mh but am unsure due to reviews.
    Later...
    Anyway's I have now ordered a non Apple replacement from Amazon for about £35 and it has several good reviews and 4.5 out of 5 stars so I'll see if it works and report back. If it doesn't I'll send it back and get the Official Apple one.

  • MDIChildren flickering problem while switching between child form with dockstyle.fill and borderstyle.none

    I have an mdi applicaton in Visual studio 2010 (.Net framework 4.0). I'm having a flickering problem when user switch between an MDI Child form. I'm declaring the child form then setting the borderstyle.none at design time and dock property to fill
    through programming and make them a MDIChildren before I show them so that it takes up the entire space of the MDI Parent window without being maximized (client request).
    i don't want to display control box(minimize, maximize,close) of child form in mdi parent form. (client request)
    The problem is that when the child form is being displayed it is briefly shown in it's default size with icon and control box before being resized to fill the available area on the MDI Parent form. When a Child Form loads, you can see it in it's original
    size (the size from Design-time) then all this flickering while maximizing .
    In other words, child form show up in the client area of the MDIForm, not maximized, with a caption, very shortly, before they are finally filling the client area. there is a short flicker when a new form is created and displayed. This process is most noticeable
    with a not-so-powerful PC or there are lots of control inside child form.
    below is my code to show child form
       MyChild1 c1 = new MyChild1();
                                c1.MdiParent = MdiMainParent;
                                c1.Dock = DockStyle.Fill;
       c1.Show();
    how can i solved the problem of flickering issue?
    I tried many options which i have described below
    1.double buffering.
    2.set style property to child form
          this.SetStyle(ControlStyles.UserPaint, true);
          this.SetStyle(ControlStyles.AllPaintingInWmPaint, true);
          this.SetStyle(ControlStyles.DoubleBuffer, true);
    3. override below method in each child form
    protected override CreateParams CreateParams
                get
                    CreateParams cp = base.CreateParams;
                    cp.ExStyle |= 0x02000000;
                    return cp;
    4. override below method in each child form
      const int WM_NCPAINT = 0x85;
            const int WM_SIZE = 0x05;
            protected override void WndProc(ref Message m)
                if (m.Msg == WM_NCPAINT)
                    if (this.WindowState == FormWindowState.Maximized)
                        return;
                if (m.Msg == WM_SIZE)
                    if (this.WindowState == FormWindowState.Maximized)
                        return;
                base.WndProc(ref m);
    but I didn't see any effects.  please someone help me to resolve flickering issue. thanks in advance.

    Hi hardikvaishnav,
    This is a known issue which has been reported to Microsoft Connect. Unfortunately, this issue will not fix due to stability issues around MDI. For more details, see
    https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/97787/border-of-mdi-child-form-flashes-up-despite-formborderstyle-none.
    You might use a user control or panel instead.

  • ALV flickering problem

    Hi,
    I have  flickering problem with ALV control (cl_gui_alv_grid).  My alv grid  control is not in edit mode.
    I am using ALV grid for event planning with drag drop operations, so there may be 1000+ rows sometimes at grid.
    Also I call refresh_table_display with soft_refresh and is_stable='XX.'
    (I call cfw=>set_new_ok_code to trigger PBO. refresh_table_display is being called at PBO )
    It flickers just a second or two after drop_complete but it is critical for usability.
    I think flickering happens because of scrolling, so I used set_scroll_via_id but nothing changed.
    Thanks.

    Hi Manu,
    I tried not to trigger PBO (Called refresh_table_display at PAI, commented set_new_ok_code)
    It does not help..
    (Same behaviour : se38-> BC_ALV_TEST_GRID_PERFORMANCE.Increase record count to 5000.Run.
    Scroll to the bottom of list.)
    Thank you..

  • Flickering problem with Apple TV

    I am suddenly having flickering problems after updating Apple TV.  The box has worked fine for several months though I did have this same problem when I first got it in February.  I have a Panasonic 37' viera.  I have unplugged both the TV and the Apple TV box, reset it a number of times.  Don't know what to do.

    I'm having the same issue, albeit right out of the box.  I hooked up my Apple TV according to the instructions, have no other issues with my wifi, and the HDMI and power cables are all securely connected.  My TV's also a Samsung, experiecing the same "flickering" of audio.  In addition, during set-up, the screen was also flickering to white while inputting my wifi info.
    Am hoping swapping it out in store will fix the problem. I was so excited to get my AppleTV in the mail and everything else Apple-to-TV has been working great. (I had my ancient black MacBook -turning 6 in June- hooked up with zero connectivity problems.)  Wondering if this will be an ongiong issue? Had decided against AppleCare for such an inexpensive addition to my home, but maybe I should re-think that decision...

  • Flickering problem with live viewing with IMAQ Image Display

    Hi everyone,
    I am trying to write a program to do live imaging with Andor camera. I am using some examples from Andor. The images are acquired in sequence and send into IMAQ Image Display and also Intensity Graph. There is minimal flickering issue in the Intensity Graph but there is very bad flickering problem in IMAQ Image Display. Perhaps I misunderstand how to optimize the vision tools. Does anyone know how to overcome this issue? I have attached the code that I am testing. Thanks in advance.

    You can use Vision Assistant to test our vision functions. Vision Assistant is really meant to prototype - it does not have all teh functionality of Vision Development Module and is not as flexible as we don't allow you access to all the settings for every function.
    I recommend starting in Vision Assistant and then porting over to LabVIEW or C (whatever you are most comfortable with)...this is built-in functionality. There is nothing wrong with using Vision Assistant to do live imaging, just that you run into limitations and you will only be able to use this code on computers that have Vision Assistant.
    Hope this helps.

    Hello!
    I have a 3000 series N200 laptop (0769 type) for 3 years. Approximately 3 months ago, there was a screen problem that the screen had white vertical gridlines. Service replaced the chipset of the graphical card.
    Yesterday, a flickering problem has been appeared. I updated bios and display drivers from below link.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?
    Could not get a solve with those updates. Then, I dismounted the front cover of screen. Re-assembled the LVDS FFC cable of the LCD display a couple of times, problem continued. Then, re-assembled the inverter cables. It also did not provide a solution.

    Please advise about this matter.
    Thanks.

    Hello suguz and welcome to community,
    As you have already updated the video driver and BIOS then you can check with adjusting the monitor refresh rate to 60Hrz.
    Kindly check the same issue in BIOS mode and if issue continues then it might fault with Lcd display.
    Best Regards,
    Tanuj

  • MSI K7N2-IL 2M/B and MSI MS-StarForce GeForce FX 5900 Ultra

    Hi
    I wonder if you could help me.
    I am curious, the below is the spec of my machine.
    AMD Athlon XP 3000 + 333 FSB CPU
    MSI K7N2-IL 2M/B
    256 GEFORCE FX 5900 ULTRA GRAPHICS
    though the graphics card is reported as MSI MS-StarForce GeForce FX 5900 Ultra [Nividia GeForce 5900 Ultra] in Windows control panel.
    I am needing to learn more about exactly what is what in this PC.
    I have installed MSI Live monitor and have upgraded to NVIDIA nForce System Drivers though my graphic driver is still reported as 4.4.0.3 or 43.51 [another question why are there two versions given to graphic drivers?]
    As Live monitor doesn't report any further updates possible when there are newer Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia website - can I install these ?
    Also I am looking for a utility to monitor, change fan speed and temperature, is the Nvidia  system utility ok to use?  It says that it's only compatible with
    nForce3 Pro
    nForce3
    nForce2
    I'm not sure if I only have Nforce ?
    I would really appreciate any help you may give - I know that the above probably sounds as if I'm as thick as 2 short planks.
    Thanks in advance
    ~ The Doctor.

    nVidia Drivers
    you can get all your drivers there
    both board drivers and vga
    you can use speedfan for temp
    http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
    boards hardware does not support changing fan speeds though

    ATI is supposed to have better picture quality and better AA quality, but most reviews admit it's a pretty close call.

  • 45.23's Resolved SBA Issue on MSI 5900 Ultra

    Couldn't enable SBA on MSI 5900 Ultra with 45.20 drivers. Fast Writes was ok. 45.23's resolved issue allows me to select, but have to reset after each reboot.

    The motherboard chipset drivers (excluding those for the onboard LAN and audio) were installed before the nVidia drivers.
    I re-installed the operating system (item 3 in my first post).
    P.S.
    Just used Driver Cleaner and tried again but still no joy.

  • What are the "Official" Temps for GFX 5900 Ultra

    I have the GFX 5900 Ultra with an average idle temp of between 35-38 Celcius.
    Using RivaTuners background monitor, I found that I was getting VERY inacurate ratings when I alt-tab'd to the monitor on the desktop.  Plus RivaTuner will let you monitor in the background and save it to an html file for later and accurate results.
    I thought I was peaking around 58-60 degrees in games but the realtime logging of RivaTuner showed it maxing at 83 degrees at times.  I'm not getting BSOD or lockups, in fact it runs just fine.  And I can play BF1942,Halo and COD for 5-6 hrs each in a sitting and nothing bad has happened yet so I'm starting to think these temps are normal for a Video Card with such high speeds.
    Being that my idle temp is so low, I'm not doubting the effeciency of my heatsink, fans and case cooling.
    I would love to see other results using RivaTuners background monitor from other people posted here so please do so and help get some accurate temp ratings out there.

    Thanks, I was being a bit anal, but just wanted to be sure.
