5900XT MSI Driver removal

I originally installed the MSI drivers as I wished to use the D.O.T. utilities but having found out it is no different than using nvidia CoolBits I tried to remove them using  the following method
1. uninstall drivers using control panel.
2. reboot into safemode and use "driver cleaner"
3. manually remove the msicpl.dll and winsys (d.o.t.) file
4. Reg cleaner & System mechanic
5. Reboot
6. Install new drivers form nVidia site.
I have already have and read the post on "Alternative Drivers" and followed the removal technique to the letter.  Yet no matter what I do as soon as I install the lastest nvidia drivers the dreaded MSI tabs come back.
How do I eliminate these for good? Is there something I have forgotten?

"go to the directory your MSI drivers reside in and run MSIUINS.EXE file. This removes all MSI specific driver files and shortcuts/links!!!"
Someone just posted this answer to me in another forum, thought you might like it, ill just confirm it works

  • MSI driver - new NVidia driver: MSI Info/Clock

    Hi,
I first used the MSI driver for my new MSI NX6600GT-VTD128 AGP. I don't use any other MSI software.
I now uninstalled this old NVidia (MSI) driver and installed the new NVidia driver. The "MSI Information" and "MSI Clock" tab remain. Do they still work (D.O.T. , etc)?
Can these 2 tabs only be installed with the MSI driver on the CD that came with my card?
    Thanks!

k tabs are controlled by msicpl.dll and will not removed, you will manually have to eradicate the file yourself. It should be in the windows directory but if you cannot find it just do a search."
I now deleted the msicpl.dll from C:\WINDOWS but the tabs are still there.
There is one more msicpl.dll in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
Which one is the right one? Both? Or is one from Microsoft? Can I savely delete the one in \SYSTEM32 ? Should I restore the one in \WINDOWS?
    Thanks!

  • Where can I download the iTunes64.msi driver. I can't update my current Itunes without this driver.

Where can I download the iTunes64.msi driver. I can't update my current Itunes without this driver. I can't find it on Microsoft's website or Apple's website.

You can't download the individual .msi files, but they can be extracted from the setup.exe files if required.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you are running 64-bit Windows and the above steps haven't helped try installing the version of iTunes that can be downloaded from this support document. iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)

  • Creating a backup of functional drive removed from broken laptop

I have a new Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion that is damaged and won't turn on. I have the drive removed and can access it using a docking station attached to my iMac running 10.6.
What is the simplest way to backup the data from this drive so that after the laptop is repaired I can return my data to the Macbook Pro?

Using Disk Utility to clone a drive will automatically erase the Destination drive if it isn't already erased. To backup to a drive with stuff already on it you would need to use a backup utility like one of these:
    Suggested Backup Software
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Data Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Others may be found at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.
Be sure the backup utility is NOT configured to erase all files on the destination that are not on the source. If there are files identical to those already on the drive, then they will be overwritten.

  • Will formatting my hard drive remove my bootcamp partition? Also, downgrading...?

    Hi!
I have 2 partitions, one for Mavericks and one for Windows 8. I would like to do a clean install of Mavericks. I have already redownloaded Mavericks and I'm about to put it on a USB so I can boot from it and reinstall the operating system. I read somewhere that to format your hard drive and do a clean install, you have to boot into the USB and then you'll have an option to format your hard drive from there. I'm not sure if that's correct so that's another thing I would like to inquire about.
Another thing I would like to know about, although not relevant to my previous questions, is this: Is it possible to get a free download of Mountain Lion (legally, of course)? I would much rather do a clean install of Mountain Lion than Mavericks, but I've searched google and there seems to be no way to get it for free. However, I did read that it's possible to get it free within 30 days of purchasing your Mac but that 30 days have long passed for me.
So my 3 questions are the following:
    1) Will formatting my hard drive remove my already existing bootcamp partition? (If it does, I don't mind but I would still like to know)
    2) How exactly do I format my hard drive?
    3) Is it possible to get Mountain Lion for free so I can downgrade?
    Thanks to anyone who helps!

Formatting a HDD will delete all user data on the drive.  Yes you can do it on an older MBP by connecting to it via USB, but do you really want to?  If the repair shop says the HDD is functional, there is no need to wipe it and reinstall the OSX.  The problem then is something else.
It would be helpful if you indicated the EXACT model/year MBP that you have.
    Ciao.

  • How to completely remove all traces of MSI driver?

After waiting for 4 weeks to see if the MSI 6800 Ultra was going to be available, I have given up.  I have removed my GeForce 5900 128M VTD and installed my new 6800GT, but I cannot remove the MSI Information and MSI Clock tabs from the Display Properties window.  I have already tried DriverCleaner, but the MSI tabs still remain.
Does anyone know how to remove them, short of a full system reformat and re-install?

Actually, that needs to be updated, it was written prior to the DOT implementation.
The files below are the ones that need to be deleted.
You can go directly to a command line (or use the run command)
    del \windows\msicpl.dll /s/f
    del \windows\msicpl.sys /s/f
    del \windows\winsys.exe /s/f (DOT Controller)
The /s and c:\ parts tell the del command to scan subdirectories (starting at the root of drive C) and delete--or try to delete-- files of a given name or type, wherever they might be on the hard drive.  The /f switch attempts to force deletion of read-only files.
Also...did you remove the drivers via the "Add Remove Programs" applet in the "Control Panel?" It should have removed them..
If you did, I need to know if the uninstall is working correctly. If not, then this the second or third time I've seen this but have yet to determine if the user ran the uninstallation as I have described. I have not had this particular problem with the DOT to the best of my recollection. I may need to forward this to my contact to see if they can duplicate the issue.
Please create a signature with full specs and OS info. Edit...I see you already have

  • MSI WindTop 2400 hard drive removal

    Hi
I need a help to open the MSI  WindTop 2400 All in One  case so that I can replace the hard drive. I couldn't find any guide anywhere on assembling/ disassembling this product.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
    Marin

    I want to run 2x 120 + 1x 4 for the operating system.
And what if I can't even do 2x 120, what if it's just a matter of not being able to combined any two disks.  Other than expirimenting and doing all the instalation work (which I will do tomorrow, methinks) the question is, is there a way to make the current configuration work?
(sorry, don't mean to gun down your idea, it's just kind of my last ditch effort.)

    What has happened?
Got NO clue right now .. drivers worked before , I haven't updated them since I installed them (3weeks ago) I have not done anything that I can think of ..
    Are grateful for answers!

I have the same problem. Updated driver to 13.11 beta was running my  MSI 2GB r9 270x for 3 days got it on the 24th and today after a system reboot the windows screen appears to load then goes to black. I started safe mode, uninstalled the ati graphics drivers, rebooted and windows booted fine. Reinstalled the lastest 13.12 driver and rebooted to the black screen again.

  • HELP! Hard drive removed from old Mac Pro won't work as external in USB enclosure...

    Hi guys,
I guess we've all been in this position at some point with our music technology, but today it is my turn to panic!
I have sold my Mac Pro (2010) and moved over to an iMac, now that they have great performance and internal SSD, etc.
Before selling the Mac Pro, I removed the internal HDs I was using for audio, instruments, backup, etc...
I have now installed the audio HD into an external USB3 enclosure, which I had assumed would mean I could access my audio work (pretty much all of it over the last 4 years) and move tracks over to the iMac or a new external HD as necessary.
Unfortunately when I switch the enclosure on, I get the message "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"... pretty much what I would expect if it were a new drive, but not what I was expecting given this drive was fine in my Mac Pro, and was obviously Mac formatted.
So I'm in a bit of a panic! I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can solve the issue - obviously without initialising the drive (which is the only option the warning message gives me!).
I do have a friend who has a Mac Pro, so I have the option of taking the drive over to him and pulling the audio off onto a standard external drive... but if there is another way to solve the problem I would be pretty happy!
Thanks in advance for any advice or info you can offer!
    Cheers,
    Mike

    yeloop,
    Well that depends...
In the past I have managed to restore/repair drives with DW that nothing else would recognize let alone fix... so it's one of the 'tools' that I keep in my 'repair bag' and the few times i have needed it, it has paid for itself over and over again.
However, the fact you can mount the drive with your MBP but cannot with your iMac, is a little strange and points to something else that maybe is not related to a physical issue with the drive but something else going on with either the enclosure you used or even your iMac and it's USB3 ports. If it wasn't for the fact you can mount it on your MBP I would have said disk corruption but I don't think that is the problem now....
Got anything else you can plug into those USB3 ports on your iMac.. like another USB2 drive that you know is fine, just to test the ports themselves?

  • Hard drive removed from old, dead mac. I need your help!

So the logic board failed on my 2006 15" MacBook pro. Apple were charging £500 to replace the board, so I've decided to get myself a new MacBook. At the Genius Bar, while we were discussing how I could go out fixing the laptop, the genius was kind enough to remove my hard drive for me. He explained that there are simple USB cables you can buy that literally connect to the loose hard drive one end, and pop into the USB of the new mac the other. My first request is can anyone link me to a cable to buy (preferably uk). Every time I search I get external USB hard drives. The second piece of help I need is how I go about restoring some old files. I want everything as clean as possible; no migration type processes, just drag and drop. Once this is done, I have some worries about connecting my iPhone and getting things to carry on as normal (without losing apps and photos).
    I appreciate any feedback.

The driive enclosure required will be the SATA enclosure. (The IDE would be for a much older machine.) The best policy would be to take the extracted drive with you if you are shopping in person; that way the tech help on site can identify exactly the model needed. Just one word before opting for a FireWire enclosure: the newer Macs have FireWire 800 only, no longer FireWire 400 ; your old 15" had both ports but the new Mac will have only 800. That means you might need an adaptor cable 400 to 800 if the enclosure is 400. There will be no similar complication if it is  USB only. The advantage of FireWire is speed and Mac compatibility.
Once you have this bit of kit, then you are ready to tackle the main task of Migration or simply copying to the new Mac.

  • My hard drive removed from a laptop  no photograph files left can I recover them?

Please HELP with advice someone if you can. I had a white unibody laptop which was snow leopard but upgraded to Lion. A couple months ago my daughter splashed a small amount of water on it whilst it was unplugged when I was working on it. No apparent damage but the battery was low. Later after I forgot about the water splash I (stupidly) unknowinlgly plugged into a power source but it must have 'blew' as it never started up. I may have tried a few times after trying to power up, including holding down power key for a good while but nothing dead.. kaput.
A few weeks ago I got myself a new laptop, with mavericks on it. But I really needed my data off old laptop, so I took it to a simply fix it  store who do apple repairs, and they took out the hard drive and put it in a case that could be plugged into my new laptop. I got it home and tried it, but it would not open iphoto obviously because, different system/update issue ect. SoI searched to see if i could find the photo files maually but ll I could find were a few files from my documents. Everything that was on the desk top, music and photo files were missing!. I took it back to simply fix it and they said that they searched everywhere and tried booting it up on an older sytem but they could not find any of the files that were missing.
I am gutted, as all my personal photos of which I never backed up are gone. I really need /want some of these pictures back . Does anyone know what may have happened? The guys at simply fix it said , all they done was removed the hard drive, and encase it. They never moved files or anything. Is it possible they may have been damaged with the water and plug into electric? Or could it have been me trying to start it up after water damage and I ruined part of hard drive.
The rest of my applications and documents are all ok, its weird just music , desk top, and photo files gone.
Is it worthpaying for a data recovery which simply fix it will charge me £100?
Any advice much appreciated. Sorry I cant tell you what sytem my old mac was as I dont have the hard drive with me to find out it was bought in Jan 2011 new white unibody snow leopard.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi Again, Well I found Carbon Copy Clone on my old hard drive so I didn't even need to download it. I just dragged it onto my desktop and I did as you said.  Using CCC and within the folder of users which has my folder of old hard drive there now shows a file called.autodiskmounted (whatever that means) and then it has a version of my hard drive below that called hard drive 1, which has nothing, but above both of these folders, there is a folder with an old user name which shows up empty on the hard drive when I search it, but actually shows lots of folders on the CCC. So without getting too excited, it lists some folders and amongst them are folders I cant see normally in the old hard drive, like my safari settings and favourites, and movies music and pictures. However in the movies pictures and music folders I can only see a  blackish square that looks a bit like a blank screen with the text.localised after it .
Does this mean anything to you / Is there  apossibility they may be there? When I selected my new laptop as the destination i got this message below so I did not proceed any further as I'm not sure it will back up the files I need..
To avoid system instability, CCC has applied a filter that will exclude system files from the backup task.
If you would like to restore your Mac OS X system files, restart your computer from the backup volume and try the backup task again.
If you are trying to restore a single item or folder, click the "?" button for additional suggestions.
Is it worth giving it a try? Thanks for this btw, its further than I've got before!!

  • PowerMac G5 doesn't work anymore simply due to a DVD-ROM drive removal!

Hello, here's what's happened (I'll write using the "present" because I'm not English).
This happened about two days ago:
I need to read an Ultra ATA hard disk, so I power off the Mac.
I remove the SuperDrive DVD-ROM and I connect the hard disk in its place (I already made this with other ATA hard disks in past and it always was OK).
    I close the Mac.
I try to start: nothing! The light on the power-on button of the Screen (Apple Cinema Display 20" plastic) and the light on the power-on button of the Mac case starts flashing 3 times (then stop, than other three times, etc...).
So I power off. I change the jumper configuration of the hard disk, like the Super Drive. I try again: NOTHING. Always three-times flashing the lights.
So I power off. I re-install the DVD drive, close the Mac again and restart it.
SURPRISE: the same symptom! The computer doesn't start and always makes the three-times flashing lights...
So I tried totally removing the DVD drive, and restarting it without it: nothing: same symptom.
Unfortunately I made these attempts forgetting to disconnect the power cable of the Mac!
Then I start trying with other RAM configurations, hoping that just a RAM module got burned. I have 6 ram modules (512 MB each).
I try lots of combinations... nothing, always same symptom.
Finally, I disconnect the power cord again, I re-install all the RAM modules, an I try to reset the CMOS: I remove the Motherboard battery for some seconds.
Than I re-install the battery, close the Mac, connect the power cord, restart it: it works!!!
I go in System Info, and I see that it doesn't recognize two of the 6 RAM modules: just 4. The slots of the other 2 not recognized DIMM modules seems empty, but there is the ram!
So I power off the Mac Again. I disconnect the power cord.
I change the RAM modules positions. I try again: nothing! Again the three-times flashing lights symptom, and always black screen again.
So I try again by removing the CMOS battery... nothing... always flashing...
After lots of attempts (also changing again the RAM positions, trying to remember how it was when it worked...)... nothing.
    I power off the Mac.
After about an hour, I simply try to power on it... IT WORKED!!!
I used it too... went on Internet, etc... Finished working, I powered it off and went to bed.
The day after, I tried to power it on... nothing! Always three times flashing lights...
From that moment, it was totally impossible to let it work...
I tried to change the RAM positions again... I tried also pressing every time the reset button on the Mother Board... nothing...
The only different symptom that I obtained, a couple of times, was that the two lights (on the Screen button and on the Mac tower button) didn't flash, but was always on.... but it didn't run anyway: totally black screen.
How is this possible? Durin 18 years of computer hardware experience, NEVER happened that a computer got broken just removing and re-installing a DVD-ROM drive!
And I'd never imagined that removing a DVD-ROM could be a dangerous operation... It seems to me just like a car that got broken if I replace the cigarette lighter...
What do you think? how is this possible?
If the CPU or the Motherboard or the RAM too got broken... simply it NEVER should run... on the contrary two times it worked very well!... with a broken Motherboard or CPU??? ...mmmm... so strange....
If the RAM got broken... how is this possible? 6 ram modules burned together??? It seems so absurd... (in past there were 8 RAM modules... one or two got broken... so I removed them and it worked again... but not 6 !!!!).
    Any opinion?
    Any practical advice?
    Prevision of costs?
    Thank you!!!

Hi Wolfman I have an update of the situation.
We tried moving the RAM modules again... and at one point it worked! With just 2 RAM modules.
But at the green screen (with the gray apple darker) it blocked.
So we removed the two RAM modules and installed other two modules: it worked again! These two last modules are 512 MB each.
So we restarted the system pressing "c" with the OSX DVD in the drive, and it worked! I used System diagnostic OSX utility and it found the 2 ram modules, but of 256 MB each instead of 512 !!! How is this possible? (if they were broken OK, but detect just half of its size seems so strange...).
Than we restarted it again connecting an OSX bootable external Fire Wire LaCie hard disk (FW400 port), and it worked!
We used DISK UTILITY to test the internal boot hard disk and it gave me an error (verify disk).
The Disk utility was unable to repair the disk.
    Another damage!
I remember that in the past attempts it booted once (not three times flashing) and stopped at the grey screen... (I think: maybe due to the boot hard disk error!).
Unfortunately this external bootable firewire disk has got some problem and it sometimes blocks itself emitting a "clic".
So I powered the mac off and connected another newer firewire lacie bootable hard disk. I connected it in the FW800 port. I rebooted and... surprise: three times flashing light again!!!
No way to let it pass this wall, no initial "sound" again... nothing!
So I removed the FW800 drive, and changed the RAM again (inverted them, always two internal slots n. 1 and 2): it worked!
I booted from the FW400 hard disk, and it worked. I was able to backup some data from the internal hard disk (in order to be able to try to solve the error initializing it), and I tried again to boot with the FW800 hard disk (I want a stable system while initializing a drive!).
As I connected the FW800 hard disk again, I tried to reboot... nothing! Again the three-times flashing light error! No sound... black screen again...
(So, simply removing a DVD ROM I got RAM broken, maybe the Logic board, the hard disk too... maybe the FireWire 800 port too.... mmmm.... this mac is possessed! And it is connected through a professional power stabilizer too!).
So after several attempts with RAM, cmos reset, firmware reset (power it up holding the power on button for some seconds), etc... I got it working again...
So this time I rebooted it pressing "c" and I initialized the internal hard disk using the OSX DVD as boot drive...
Then I rebooted from the FW400 hard disk and I used CarbonCopyCloner to restore an internal hard disk clone OSX complete installation from a .dmg image file in the FW800 lacie hard disk... but this time I connected it not using the FW800 port but through the USB 2.0 port... and it was able to copy the data.
The computer was working... able to boot... no three times flashing error... no FW800 connections... always rebooting OK... the internal hard disk initialized, working, with NO errors (disk utility tested), made bootable...
I tried to reboot again (with no "c" or "alt" pressing, hoping the internal boot hard disk working again): nothing!
THREE TIMES FLASHING LIGHT AGAIN!!! No way to solve the problem now... always flashing...
What is happening here??? I don't understand! I use computers (instable DOS/Windows computers mainly!!!) form about 18 years... never seen a so strange behaviour!!!
We'll try to gather money to replace the RAM, before thinking to a Logic Board replacement...
    Your opinion?
    Thanks!

  • Does Apple store offer hard drive removal?

    Hi
I have to lost some data on my MacBook Pro and need to send to a data recovery specialist but they are asking me to remove the drive to send to them.
I would rather not attempt removal myself ...
Can anyone tell me if the Apple store can/will do this in store?
Or if not, can anyone recommend a place in London that might offer the service?
    Thanks in advance
    K

Please look at this video that shows how to take out (and install) a HDD from your MBP.  It is not that difficult.
You do need a #00 Phillips and #6 Torx drivers.

  • How do I repair a damaged time machine backup drive/remove pictures from library on locked/failing external drive

I have a WD 1TB external hard drive that I use as my time machine backup drive as well as to store a number of things including my iphoto library (due to its size of about 85 GB) as well as documents. I began using the WD 1TB external drive with my 2007 13" MacBook and when I purchased a brand new 13" MacBook Pro in 2013 I used the WD to transfer what I wanted to the new laptop. My new MacBook Pro is running OSX 10.8.4 (2.9 GHz Interl Core i7 with 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3) (not the retina display). The WD 1TB product # is WDBACX001... and it's only about one year old so I'm super bummed that it's failing and trying to take my life with it It has only ever been used with my two MacBooks, never with a PC.
The external WD was working fine until this week when I noticed that it wasn't appearing on my desktop. I rebooted, unplugged and replugged the WD drive in each USB portal, and still nothing. I ran Disk Utility to verify and repair the disk, which did force it to show up on the desktop again, though it made everything painfully slow. After running the repair function Disk Utility told me that the drive couldn't be repaired, and that I should backup whatever is on it and restore the WD drive. I managed to pull off most of the documents before it decided to freeze up my laptop (I had a couple of folders with a few documents each left), but I wasn't able to move the iphoto library over before the drive disappeared again. I got it back by running the repair option in disk utility, with the same message that the WD drive is failing and to back it up, and tried to move the iphoto library. It told me it would take 180+ days, and kept going up. I left it up anyway for about a day to see if it would change, and instead it gave an error message, and moved nothing. I can't open the library in iPhoto- it tells me it's on a locked disk. I checked the permissions and it's set to Read & write by me (the admin user) but then under that it says read only for "everyone." I can't get into the library to pull out my pictures, which I cannot afford to lose.
I would appreciate any help or advice on how to crack into my iphoto library on this failing drive to remove the pictures. I read a lot about DiskWarrior but I also read that it won't work on newer macs (anything after June of 2012 supposedly), so I'm wondering if that's true or not, and if not is that a good program to use?
I can't afford to take it to a professional right now, so any help or advice would be so greatly appreciated! Also if anyone then could suggest the best way to back up in two places (digitally and perhaps a better brand of external drive) it would be amazing.
If you need more info let me know!

If you're very lucky, you might be able to salvage the drive mechanism, and the data, by removing it from the enclosure and installing it in another one, or in a drive dock.
