5c random sleep mode

Why does my iPhone 5c go into a "sleep mode" and the apple icon will appear on my screen and I can't do anything? It does go away after I press the home button, but is this a phone defect or normal to occur?

Hi Liz2250,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your iPhone 5C is behaving unexpectedly, and may be restarting on its own. To resolve it, I'd start with the troubleshooting steps in this article:
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Best Regards,
Jeremy

    Hello, I have a MacBook air 11" late 2011.
after installing Mountain Lion I get random sleep modes, usually right after a waking up the computer.
that has never happened before so I assume that it is a sotware issue.
I do not have a hot corner for sleep (have checked)
anybody else has the same problem

It goes to sleep sometimes right after I wake up the computer ..
wake up , 3-5 seconds .. I click somewhere.. it goes to sleep
any downsides of resetting the PRAM and SMC

  • Goes into random sleep mode...hard to start

My IMAC G5 will randomly go into sleep mode while I am in the middle of using it. Typically the fan noise increases and than it auto goes into a sleep mode. It also has issues starting. I have to press and hold the power button for it to kick on while also hitting keys on the keyboard to trigger it. Help!?

iMac model? There are four large families of iMac and each has different troubleshooting issues. This forum covers older ones made between 1998-2005.

  • Macbook pro mid 2012 non retina goes ramdomly into sleep mode

    Hello people,
I bought a macbook pro non retina mid 2012 and everything was going fine until I installed Mountain Lion OS X. From this moment, my macbook is going into a random sleep mode. It is important to notice, that I cannot see any pattern, it can happens even when I am typing something and when it happens the screen goes black suddenly and it takes some seconds to return. When I was living in Germany last year, I called apple support two times. I installed the mountain lion update the first time as they recommended and the second time I reseted the SMC settings. They said to me that if it didn't work, I should reinstall the operational system before going to an apple store. Thing is that in the meantime I returned to my home country Brazil, where we still don't have a physical apple store and unfortunately the problem was not solved when I reinstalled the operational system. I don't know what to do next. I am afraid that since there is no apple store in Brazil, I just lost the chance to exchange it for a new one... Any suggestion that I didn't try would be welcome.

So, nobody can give me a suggestion? I am disappointed. When I googled for this problem I saw some people facing a similar problem, but their solution they offered didn't help me.

  • Macbook Pro 17" (Mid-2009) Randomly Getting Stuck in Sleep Mode when Unplugged

Hey guys, this is my first time posting so please excuse me if I do anything wrong. Here's the issue:
I have a Macbook Pro 17" (Mid-2009) that has had an issue with the whole computer shutting down at random, but only when unplugged from the MagSafe power adapter. Upon scouring all the forums and discussions I could, I haven't found anyone with the same exact circumstances as myself, hence this post. Let me explain.
Many say it's a battery issue. That can't be, because this has been happening for months, and after I finally got my laptop repaired a few days ago, it still occurs. I had sent it in for a logic board failure, but consented them to fix any other parts that weren't functioning properly. Upon the return of my machine, I found that they installed a fresh hard drive, new battery, new logic board, and a new speaker on the right side. This must mean that neither the logic board nor the battery are the issue.
What else can this point to? Again, it only occurs when the Mac is unplugged from a power source, and it doesn't totally shut down. It goes half way, essentially stuck in sleep mode. The white indicator light on the front freezes, and the power button has to be held to fully turn the laptop off, then pressed again to reboot. It can last anywhere from a single minute to a few hours before shutting off again, and it's always the exact same circumstance, no matter what kind of computing I'm doing at the time.
Note that while no one else has found the solution to lie within resetting the PRAM or SMC (in the discussions I read), I still need to try that tonight and see if it affects anything.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sean

Macs are having problems with SSD drives. The root cause is the OS X journaling file system. The Apple-written SATA controller driver can saturate the bus at times, inhibiting performance. Some manufactures are even selling special "Mac" versions of their SSD drives that are slowed down on purpose to compensate for this problem. Unfortunately, the problem still exists in Snow Leopard, from what I've read.
Also, I read that Apple has secretly slowed the recent new laptops down (3.0GB/s to 1.5GB/s) to compensate for the problem.

  • My macbook is two and half year old, going to sleep mode randomly

Having used this Macbook for almost two and half years, my machine has suddenly generated the problem of going to random sleep. It started as an infrequent thing, then it started happening on a regular basis, to the point that it became almost impossible to work with it. When the computer goes to sleep mode, it doesn't wake up with any key, it has to be woken up by pressing the power button lightly.
Here are the steps I took:
    1. The normal thing I did was search Apple Forum and then reset SMC, PRam, then changed energy saving options, everything. Nothing worked.
    2. Ran the hardware test and no problems found.
    3. Ran the Macbook with all options: with just the battery, without the Magsafe connected, with Battery and Magsafe connected together, with battery removed and the computer running on Magsafe only. Random Sleep continues
    4. Thought must be a connection issue and ran to Apple Store in Kolkata, India, thinking that it could be a connection issue with the sleep-mode cable. Apple Store kept the Macbook for seven days, saying that they needed to check the machine, returned it on the seventh day saying that the machine was fine and charged me Indian Rupee 1,500/- (about $ 34). I came back home and the problem persists.
(Here I would like to add that Apple Service in Kolkata *****, probably ***** all over India, simply because Apple is not a major player in this country. The service engineer at Apple Store was at a loss with my problem and after seven days could only say, "We have done our internal tests and found no problem with your Macbook." When I asked about the Sleep Mode sensor connection, he said, "That is working fine, we have checked that.")
    5. After coming back home, I faced the same problem, this time with lesser time gap. It would go off to sleep every one minute or so. I decided to set my computer on "never to sleep mode" in the enery saving option. Alas, that didn't help either.
    6. I redid the hardware check, only to find that my computer hasn't detected any hardware problem.
    7. Now, as a previous Windows user, I thought that the problem must have been with the OS. So, at the risk of losing all my files, I decided to reload the OS. (My original OS DVD was Leopard, but it was later upgraded to Snow Leopard by the vendor free of cost). I took backup in Time Machine, and backed up the documents in another Disk and reloaded the OS. All seemed fine so far, for about 10 minutes. I was now confident that finally I could solve the problem and was then planning to migrate my previous files to my newly loaded OS-X. Alas, I was wrong. Before I could connect the external HDD to my computer, my Macbook went back to its previous trick of falling asleep.
I'll definitely take back my Macbook to Apple Care tomorrow, but with my experience here in Kolkata, don't know whether they would be able to solve anything. Last time I had to show them the posts in Apple Forum to prove that Random Sleep is a problem that happens to Macbook.
PS: My Macbook is with aluminium body bought in January 2009. Out of warranty. My optical drive conked off long ago (after about 15 months or so after I bought the Macbook) and I live with an external drive.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Macbook Pro Randomly Enters Sleep Mode For A Few Seconds

    Hi All,
My Macbook Pro has had this problem since a few months after I purchased it. While working or playing the laptop will randomly go into what seems like sleep mode. The screen turns off, I hear the hard drive stop and then a couple seconds later it starts back up on its own. Any Internet connection I had disconnects, but other than that it starts up as normal.
The problem comes and goes and doesn't seem to be consistent with anything that I'm aware of. Sometimes it happens once, then doesn't happen for days. Often it will happen several times in a row over the course of an hour.
I've called support and brought the laptop to the genius bar where they ran several tests, but were unable to figure anything out. Research online has shown similar issues with other users, but no solutions. The laptop is not stacked on anything magnetic, the issue occurs when running hot or cold and whether I'm on battery power or plugged in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If this can't be resolved is it something I can bring to apple and get a replacement under my year warranty?

  • Mac Pro randomly goes into sleep mode

My (mid 2010) Mac Pro, OS X.6.8, randomly goes into sleep mode and I can't wake it, have to power it off and reboot. Just started to the best of my knowledge Friday (Jan 6, 2012) I've had it happen surfing the web in Safari, while working on an illustration in Adobe Illustrator, while running Apple Hardware Test, using 23" LCD connected by HDMI and DVI-D, Disconnected monitor and connected 12" Cintiq (LCD Tablet).
The monitor goes black, says "there's no signal coming from your computer", none of the keys will wake it. I have to hold down the power button until it turns off then power it back up. The time between the sleeps varies, 38min, 1hr 34min, 5min, 2hr 17min, 12min, etc. I disconnected everything (except keyboard, mouse, monitor) still the same. Opened and removed the ATI Radeon HD 5870, and noticed the PRAM battery, replaced it with a new one, thought that fixed it, worked for a long time then it happened again.
Tried Apple Hardware Tester again, it said everything is fine, ran it again an error popped up: 4SNS/1/40000000:Te1S-99.364, wrote it down then it slept.

The next time this happens open your mac and see if there is still a fan running.  If so you are not sleeping, you are in a thermal cutoff.  Keep you mac cover off.
Now reboot as you always do.  Take a look at the fan in your 5870.  Is it spinning?  If so, try to keep an eye on it and see if you can "catch" it not spinning.
When the fan doesn't start, or if it does then stops, the card will overheat and the machine will go into thermal cutoff.  The amount of time is variable.
I speak from experience.  I am currently on my third 5870 video card.  Both the previous two had this fan problem.  The only wrinkle in my theory for you is that I wouldn't expect more that, say, 15 minutes of up time at the most, not hours like you got.  But it may be that your card is starting ok, but stops sometime later.   I chalk it up to the lousy fans Nvidia uses in the 5x70 cards.
FWIW, if you happen to catch the fan stopped before the machine goes into thermal cutoff you can give it a little nudge with your finger to get it going again.
I recommend one of the various temperature monitors.  I use iStat Menus and display some key temps in my menu bar.  Of course after going through two of these cards I am a bit paranoid!
    Some other temperature monitors:
    iStat Pro
    Temperature Monitor
    Hardware Monitor
Note, after typing all this I also realized you got a AHT 4SNS error. I would run AHT again to see if you get that error again.  If so that means "Check Main Logic Board" and you may have a more serious hardware problem than just a video card!  So my other recommendation is that when you machine fails again look inside for any lit diagnostic leds.  There's some near the dimms but there are others on the board as well.

  • IMac with waking up randomly from sleep mode

    Hello everybody!
Since I installed Snow Leopard (all updates done) my iMac is randomly waking up from sleep mode without any reason that I know of. Some days everything is fine, next day it wakes up when I am at work and retrieves mails (thats how I see it is awake).
Also I set it up to shut down after 1h idle time- this does not work as well.
Any ideas how to track the problem?

  • My Macbook Pro (early 2011, 15") randomly shuts down after being turned on from sleep mode?

-So over the past week, I find that my macbook pro will randomly shut down within 1 minute of being turned on from sleep mode. Within the first few days of this, I figured out that it will only happen if I move my mac around before its completely into sleep mode. BUT now it shuts down regardless or preparation before sleep mode and everytime I turn my computer back on, I log in, and then have restore my chrome window tabs and stuff. What is going on??
-Do I need to replace my drive??
    *PLEASE help me, thanks!
    P.S. - I am runnng OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5

    austine38,
if you boot into Safe mode, and then immediately restart into normal mode, log in, and put it to sleep, does it still exhibit the same random shutdowns afterwards?

  • Imac Randomly goes into sleep mode...Hard to start

My IMAC G5 will randomly go into sleep mode while I am in the middle of using it. Typically the fan noise increases and than it auto goes into a sleep mode. It also has issues starting. I have to press and hold the power button for it to kick on while also hitting keys on the keyboard to trigger it. Help!?

Here is the system log it looks like its over heating?

  • My screensaver/sleep mode randomly comes on whilst working?

    All,
For some reason my screensaver automatically comes on in the middle of working.
Sometimes it will fully startup the screen saver, other times it launches but reverts back to the workspace instantly. Sometimes I get the 'clinking' disk de-mount sound and other times it goes into sleep mode. But the thing is all of those have in common is the fact that it just happens randomly.
I've reverted all my screen saver and sleep mode preferences to the defaults as well as the energy saving settings, but this hasn't fixed the issues. The only changes I can think have been made since the problem is installing Lion as well as some software updates to bring my apps up to compatibility.
Any thoughts? It's starting to get on my nerves.
    Thanks,

I had the same thnig happen to mine. After lots of research it turns out there is problems with Lion and MBP that came out in Late 2010. Check KB article TS4088

  • My laptop randomly goes into sleep mode

I'll randomly be on a site or listening to music and then all of a sudden it goes into sleep mode. I'm very aware that it goes to sleep while you've been away from your computer, but it'll go into sleep mode while I'm using the computer. I changed the power setting so that it takes longer to get into sleep mode thinking that would help, but it doesn't. I ignored it at first but it happens more often now and its getting annoying. Sometimes I'll move the mouse pad to wake it back up and it sounds like its going to come back, bit it just goes to sleep again. Its really annoying and frustrating and I don't know what's wrong with it. Anyone have any idea what's wrong with it and how to fix it? My warranty expired this passed March and I can't afford to get it fixed.

"I put a new anti virus on my computer and the sleep mode problem didn't happen after I removed hazardous files on my computer."
Go to any good anti Virus removal forum, SpyBot S&D, Bleeping Computer, others, and start a thread.
They probably will want you to run a DDS log, ERUNT, follow there instructions!
The forum Volunteers that assist you on these sites are busy and it may take up to 3 days for them to start your thread, have patience, they will help.
You may have inadvertently removed/modified part of your operating system (keylogger/screencapture) when removing the malware.
Do not just rely on a recovery point!
Hope you have recovery disks made, and/or a mirror image.

  • Week old IMac G5, Version 10.5.2, goes into "sleep" mode randomly....

My sister has a brand new IMac G5, OS X version 10.5.2, the screen randomly will go black, it still stays on, it's like it goes into sleep mode, but force quit wont work, nothing works, restart is required in order to get out of it.
On another note, when she restarts the computer, and sometimes when she's just starting it up not on a restart, the computer will have colored lines running down the whole screen, when it gets to the blue loading screen, it freezes there, where once again it requires a restart. Problem is, the computer is less than TWO WEEKS OLD. I've had my mac for years and cant figure out the problem, anyone that knows of, or has had similar problems and had them fixed that could help out would be nice. Thanks!

In fact, what your sister has is an intel iMac, not a G5, those were discontinued a couple of years ago. She has telephone support for 90 days and should call Apple immediately for a solution to her problem.

  • 2007 iMac keeps freezing mostly after sleep mode, but now does it randomly

Coming out of sleep mode it does it every couple of days. Recently it has done while I have been watching a movie. I have restored from scratch and reinstalled Mountain Lion. I don't have many apps running at the same time for I only have 4 gigs (the machine maxed out), so I don't know what else it could be and I do not know how to read the log. I am attaching a copy of the log from when I had to manually shut it down and turn it back on. I hope someone can help me. Oh and I have also cleared the SMC according to instructions on this community with no avail. Thank you guys in advance.

    Computer sleep -> Never
    Display sleep -> Never
