5D Mark II THM files

Is there any way to get Bridge to recognize THM files as the JPG source of EXIF information for the 5D Mark II's MOV files?  And, on that note, is there any way to get Bridge to manage the "sidecar" nature of these files (meaning, if you rename or copy the MOV, the THM is also renamed or copied).
I have a command-line batch file for renaming all THM files in a folder to JPG, but it would be so much more convenient if Bridge just treated the THM files in the same manner as it handles XMP files associated with the CR2 files...I frequently forget to copy THM files with my MOVs since I work in Bridge so much (where THM files are hidden).

The .THM file isn't associated with the video file in Bridge CS5. You have to remember to 'Show Hidden Files' before you want to rename/move the video files together with the .THM files.

  • How do I deal with .thm files and iMovie?

I've been using my digital camera to take short movies. When I download them onto my computer they show up as a file with a name like: MOV02161.MOV and another with an identical name but the extension .THM. When I double-click on the .mov file it opens in Quicktime and plays back no problem. When I import the .mov file into iMovie it plays without sound. I've noticed that the .thm file seems to be crucial to whether there is sound or not (I tried trashing one but then the Quicktime video played without sound!) but I can't import the .thm files into iMovie. Do I have to convert them to some other format? How do I do that?

    kstp,
the .thm file is simply a jpeg thumbnail version of your movie which you could probably view by changing the name from .thm to .jpeg (not entirely sure about that). Your audio problem is more likely caused by iMovie not having the codec needed to play the audio format encoded into your mov container. Maybe someone here more familiar with iMovie can tell you what audio formats work within iMovie, and you can set that in your camera to prevent this problem.
Now, worst case scenario is that you'll probably have to extract the audio and convert it to something that works in iMovie. You can extract the audio from within iMovie from the advanced options menu. You can also use a free app called FFMpegX to extract and convert it to something else. Hopefully though, someone here will have a more convenient solution for you.

  • Canon 5D mark II raw file conversion size blowout

I am suffering from an issue where my CR2 files from a 5D decrease in size when converted to DNG  from for example 14.4MB to 11.8MB while the 5D mark II files increase from 8.7MB to a much larger 23.6MB after conversion. Both conversions are being done with DNG Converter 5.4 using the same preferences. Any light you could shine on this for me would be greatly appreciated.

It is because your 5D Mark II files are sRAW images, not raw. (The full 5D Mark II raw files are usually over 20 MB, not ~8 MB.) When you process sRAW files into DNG files, the DNG files are stored in the "linear DNG" format, which is much bigger than the sRAW format.
p.s., these questions should be directed to the Camera Raw, Lightroom, or DNG forums in the future to get a faster reply.

  • IPhoto 6 will not import .thm files

I have a Konica-Minolta A200 that I used taking vacation photos. Somehow I changed the settings on the camera and when I copy photos to my hard drive each photo contains a .jpeg file as well as a .thm file. This goes for photos as well as videos. I am able to see all of the photos with Graphic Converter, but when I try to import into iPhoto, I get a message stating that the photos that also contain the .htm files are unreadable. What do I need to do to import those photos? Do I need to convert to some other format? It will not read the .jpeg or .thm files on those photos.
    Thank you,
    Vikki

    Hi Vikki,
If you can open your photos in Graphic Converter, I would go ahead and use the SAVE AS option, use the jpg extension, and save to your dekstop or a folder on your desktop. You can then try import into iPhoto by simply dragging folder or image into iPhoto or iPhoto icon located on your Dock. Try one, if it works, do the rest of your images this way, save all to a folder and import folder...
    Good luck, Rick

  • What does a question mark and i file mean on my macbook pro

what does a question mark and i file mean on my macbook pro when i turn it on?

To be more specific, the computer is not finding a valid system when it starts up. This may result from the hard drive's physical mechanism failing, or the system on the drive being corrupted in some way.
Repairing permissions is not likely to fix this issue. Instead I would suggest booting from the system install DVD, running Disk Utility, selecting your hard drive's partition and select *Repair Disk*.
Note: if the hard drive does not show up in Disk Utility at all, it is dead and will need to be replaced. Contact Apple (800-275-2273 in the USA) and have them set up warranty service, or carry the MacBook in to an Apple retail store to have it fixed. Be sure to [make an appointment|http://www.apple.com/retail] first you you may wait a long time to speak to a Mac Genius.
If Repair Disk finds any problems and is able to correct them, you may be able to restart and everything be okay. If it is unable to correct the problems, you will need to erase and restore your hard drive.
If Repair Disk does not find any problems, I would suggest an Archive and Install as described in [this article|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710].
    Best of luck.

  • Add a Cue marker to 500 files (batch)

    Hello,
I want to add a Cue marker (at 00:00:00.200,   ie after 200 milliseconds) on 500 .wav files,  with Adobe Audition.
How can I do this in batch processing ?
    Thanks!
PS : I use both Audition and Soundforge. Do you know if there is an official forum for SoundForge where lots of users are ? (similar to this forum here!). I tried with SoundForge, but impossible : The BATCH PROCESSING option doesn't propose Marker edition.    Does it exist with Audition ?

I haven't tried this, but if it's possible at all it will be by creating a favourite that adds a marker to a file, and nothing else, and using this favourite as part of the batch process.
But like I said - I have no idea whether this will work or not. What I do know though is that it's the only option you've got within Audition.for doing anything like this. Cuelisttool, the other option I wondered about, won't do this as it stands either - but you could try emailing its creator and asking him whether he could add it as a feature, as it sounds potentially useful.

  • LR 1.3.1 waiting for non-existing xmp and thm files

I am experiencing a problem where Lightroom 1.3.1 stalls while I am scrolling through larger folders/collections. This happens on some (specific) folders only, but can get to a point where LR becomes unusable.
Trying to nail that down, I used a file monitor (filemon from sysinternals) and spotted that LR is looking for xmp and thm files that do not exist. The reason this is slow for me probably relates to the fact, that this search happens over my local network (because my original photos are on a different computer). Estimating numbers, LR waits approx 500 ms per photo (looking for .xmp, .XMP, .thm and .THM in that time), but only for some photos in that folder.
I upgraded from 1.2 to 1.3.1 and am quite certain, that this was smooth with 1.2.
My catalog definitely doesn't write to xmp automatically. I do in fact not have a single xmp file in any of my directories. In catalog settings I also have the 'Include develop settings in metadata in jpg...' deactivated (what does that btw?).
Anyone experiencing similar issues? Any ideas what I am doing wrong here? Why is LR looking for those files in the first place?
    Stefan

I am actually a bit surprised I am the only one hitting that problem.
Does anyone else have a setup where the original photos are on a networked machine, and the working catalog is on the local machine where Lightroom is running? I assume this is why I am experiencing long delays whereas 'normal' users just don't notice that problem...

  • How to recreate mov's .THM file (for ZoomBrowser EX)

It was always a problem to deal with THM files in ZoomBrowser EX. This oversimplified software won't cut movie files without the original THM files...
    1. If only the mov file has been downloaded from the card, without the thm file, movie editing doesn't works.
    2. if the mov file is altered (eg. rating in Adobe Bridge which writes the rating directly in the file), the movie editing still doesn't works (I guess due to changed mov file checksum or so).
Is there any way to recreate the THM file?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
Without any knowledge, you can simply do the following:
    - rename the JAR file to.ZIP
    - open the zip file
    - drop images in the zip file
    - rename it back to JAR

  • Canon 7d mark II raw files open error

Photoshop elements 12 will not open the canon 7d mark II raw files, from what I read elements are not going to upgrade there camera profiles anymore, so anything new your just out of luck?  The support people have no clue.

    Faq:
FAQ: Will Photoshop Elements work with my camera, or Why won't my raw files open?
    more specifically:
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
in which you find that your camera requires the ACR 8.7 version
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
in which you see that PSE12 can't, and that PS13 can with an update.
So what solution, since Adobe does not upgrade older versions? It's the free Adobe DNGconverter:
Use the latest version of the free DNG Converter (for Macintosh or Windows)
You can convert your files to the universaly compatible DNG format (the files will work with any version of the Camera Raw plug-in). See In depth : Digital Negative (DNG) for more information.
This standalone utility lets you batch convert whole folders of raw files to the DNG raw format that your PSE12 can read.

  • How To Import .THM Files Into Premiere Pro CS5

    Hello:
I just purchased a Canon Vixia HFM50.  When I use the presets, there is support for the AVCHD format.  The file extension for the AVCHD format from the Canon is *.THM.  Yet, that file type is not recognized.  How do I import it?
    Regards,
    Rich Locus

    Hi Rich Locus,
Thanks for your post.  THM is an image file format for thumbnails. Images are made smaller for browsing purposes, usually because it is easier to view and takes less time to load.
THM files can be viewed by most image preview or editing programs on both Macs and PCs. THM files are similar to .JPEG files, and those .
THM files representing image files can usually be converted to JPEG format by changing the name of the file from .THM to .JPEG or .JPG.
THM files can also be used by videos. When extracting a video file from a camcorder, a thumbnail will be created to represent the video, usually taken from the video’s first frame.
The .THM file will then have the same name as the .AVI file that it represents. With Canon-created video files, the .THM file also contains the metadata for the video, and therefore needs to remain with and have the same name as the .AVI file. Please update if changing the extension of the file works.
    Regards,
    Vinay

  • Problem opening Canon 5D Mark II raw files

Adobe support has started a case file #181481276 on my problem.  I recently had my hard drive replaced so I had to reload my photoshop elements 7.  It wouldn't open the Canon 5D Mark II raw files so I downloaded the latest raw plug-in 5.5 for PSE 7.  Still wouldn't open the raw files.  I may not be doing the right thing with the clunky #%&# zip files.  Adobe support said I should download the raw plug-in 5.2 (seems if 5.2 would work subsequent plug-ins like 5.5 should also work).  I downloaded 5.2 and nada no help.  Am I doing something wrong with the zip files?  I open each of the three files that downloaded (even moved them to the Adobe folder in the C program files folder).  My operating system is XP Professional.

Adobe support is generally unreliable.  You should install the latest version of ACR, 5.6.  It's easy to make a mistake with the manual installation instructions.  See this FAQ for troubleshooting:
