5D Mark III Video Problem -- Help Needed!

Hello,
Been using my 5D Mark III for video for about a month now. I noticed a problem occurring in the middle of certain shots where the color seems to shift. The problem is so slight that it will take full screen, full HD and a high level of concentration to detect. I believe the most obvious occurence is at 28 seconds where the valley below suddenly takes on a different color. Here is a video of my issue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw9IHYkUEqQ
I run these settings:
Manual Focus
Aperture, ISO: Manually set
Shutter Speed: 1/50
1920x1080 ALL-I 24p
Picture Style: Faithful
Custom White Balance
Auto Lighting Optimizer: OFF
Highlight Tone Priority: OFF
High ISO Speed NR: OFF
I tried to see if these were detectible on the LCD screen on the camera, but to the naked eye they are not. The original .MOV files that were transferred from the camera show them.
Could it possibly be the Chromatic Aberration or Peripheral Illumination Correction? I have not disabled these, and they are the only automatic settings that I can think of that would be changing mid-shot.
I believe ISO was set to 100 for these shots.
Any ideas what might be causing this? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Max

This looks completely normal.  I don't see a problem.
Be aware that our atmosphere has diffractive properties just like a lens.  When the sun is at or near the horizon it's going to bend light differently depending on the wavelength (i.e. color) of that light.   Colors in the atmosphere and on the ground (since the only way it gets to the ground is to go through the atmosphere) will vary depending on where you point the camera and the position of the sun.  As the sun rises it wont take such a angled path through the atmosphere and this effect is greatly diminished.

  • 5D Mark III HSS Problem in Low light

    We have a somewhat serious problem with our two Mark III's...or some obscure setting.
    When the light level get's too low, they over expose when HSS is on. We can slow down the shutter so it turns HSS off and everthing is perfect. But, once you speed up so HSS is on, it is way over exposed (about two stops). This happens with both cameras and an ST-E3-RT, a 600EX-RT and/or a 430EX - off-camera or on. It doesn't seem to matter what ISO setting or exposure setting, once it goes below a certain light level it over exposes. We are normally around ISO 10,000, F2.8, 1/250. At this point, flash compensation has no effect, camera exposure compensation does change it but then you can't go back to regular light levels or no flash without switching it back. Another hint is that I can change the off-camera 600EX-RT compensation on the flash itself and that will help. But again, if it goes back to regular flash, it'll be too dark.
    So, there is a clear difference in exposure between HSS and regular, or no flash at low light levels.
    We've used this method with the original 5D and the 5D Mark II and all was fine. This is new with the Mark III.
    It is possible we have some obscure setting incorrect...hopefully. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    There's definitely something wonky about this situation.  If anything, the photo should be DARKER when using HSS.  And flash compensation has no effect, but exposure compensation does?  That doesn't make much sense with regard to the flash power.  Exposure compensation should have no effect on the flash at all if you're shooting in Av mode.
    Try shooting in manual, and do a "factory reset" of your camera body and reset all custom functions.

  • 5d mark III download problem

    Hi,
    I'm having problems downloading images from a 5d mark III to Lightroom. I'm shooting raw CR2 format. When the camera is connected to the computer, a handful of files download, then an error message appears saying the remaining files can't be read.
    I'm on a macbook pro with the latest OS. The canon firmware is 1.1.2, Lightroom ver. 4.2.
    The same images download to the computer fine, via a card reader. When the camera is connected to an older macbook, the download is also problem free.
    Any ideas gratefully recieved.
    Paul Thompson
    www.westyorkshireimages.co.uk

    I've downloaded thousands of pictures using a direct USB port camera connection from Canon 300D, 600D, 5D MKII, and PowerShot A630 cameras without a single lost or corrupted image file, and the transfer speed is faster than a SanDisk USB2 and current HP System built-in card reader.
    I can't speak for Mac OS systems, but Windows 2000, XP, and 7 OS systems have always recognized my cameras and download my images without a hitch.
    One possible cause of Paul's error message is that the camera battery started to run low during the LR file transfer. Make sure the battery charge level is near 'Full' before downloading images.

  • Canon 5D Mark III Jpeg problem

    Received my new 5D Mark iii today. Pretty happy so far however I have noticed a strange issue with Apple Aperture when viewing jpegs from the 5d mark iii. I noticed a white line at the top of the frame or the left of the frame on vertical shots. It is more noticeable in full screen mode in Aperture.
    I opened the jpegs in PS, Preview, DPP and the Finder and none of them show this white edge line.
    The other odd thing is if I export a jpeg of one of these out of Aperture and then load the exported file the white edge line switches sides of the image. Also I noticed if I save a jpeg version out of PS and then import that into Aperture I do not see the white edge line.
    I tried shots using multiple lenses as well with the same result.
    Seems like Aperture has some issue with 5d mark iii jpegs. Don't think it is the camera since PS, DPP and Preview don't show the same issue.
    Wondering if others have noticed this same problem?

    Here is another example. This one I exported to Smugmug from Aperture and no white edge in the Smugmug posting. Definitely seems to be some wierd Aperture problem.

  • Video problem, help please!

    I just bought the music video to "Call Me When You're Sober" and now it won't play. I've tried every way I could think of to play it, I've even used Quicktime, but it still won't play.
    --Daniel

    Thanks---but I thought of this also. Indeed it is a jumper setting, and I can see nothing so changing BIOS is not an option for me. I also cleared the BIOS at the respective jumper. It does not work. Perhaps it is just truly a bad mobo.
    But it seems to me that the video should work no matter what since one cannot diagnose much easily without it.
    A nice addition to the manual might be a trouble-shooting guide. I was also told by the seller that there were returns on this mobo---which means little I suppose---but no returns for video problems. This is why I wanted to double and triple check before returning it.
    I am a newbie, although I have built dozens of computers as an instructor/technician. But we researched and then learned just several mobos which we always used in the machines for the schools. But this time I had to grab an unknown board (at least to me) due to the requirements of a client, and it's my money I am learning with!

  • K430 Bad streaming problem - help needed

    Hello everyone,
    I wonder if any of you can help me or have had a similar problem.
    I bought a Lenovo Ideacentre K430 Desktop PC (Intel Core i7 3770 3.4GHz Processor, 16GB RAM, 2TB HDD, DVD, LAN, WLAN, Nvidia Graphics, Windows 8)  two months ago via Amazon and on the whole have been very pleased with it.
    However I have had a major problem when it comes to streaming video. For example, when watching TV programmes via BBC iPlayer it will stop after about 45 secs and say that there is insufficient bandwith.  Yet, when I run the BBC diagnostic it says the streaming speed is 3621 kbps and is sufficient.  (I have two laptops in the house and both of these stream video without any problems).  I also have the same problem when streaming video from other websites.  When using websites generally they seem to load quickly and also when downloading items it seems to do these jobs at a good speed: it is just when streaming it seems to have a problem and stops.
    I have even switched the K430 desktop to an ethernet cable to see if that helps - but the problem still persists. All the other devices in the house, i.e. iPhone, Wii, laptop all stream via the wi-fi without any problems.
    I'm not that technical , so any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    many thanks,
    Matt

    hi Pikemonster,
    Welcome to the Forums.
    Just to verify, do you get the same issue if you stream via flash player using i.E., Chrome, or Firefox?
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/tv
    Also, have you tried to adjust the video quality (i.e. medium, low, etcl)

  • Linked lists problem -- help needed

    Hello again. I've got yet another problem in my C++ course that stems from my use of a Mac instead of Windows. I'm going to install Parallels so I can get Windows on my MacBook and install Visual Studio this week so that I don't have to deal with these discrepancies anymore, but in the meanwhile, I'm having a problem here that I don't know how to resolve. To be clear, I've spent a lot of time trying to work this out myself, so I'm not just throwing this up here to have you guys do the work for me -- I'm really stuck here, and am coming here as a last resort, so I'll be very, very appreciative for any help that anyone can offer.
    In my C++ course, we are on a chapter about linked lists, and the professor has given us a template to make the linked lists work. It comes in three files (a header, a source file, and a main source file). I've made some adjustments -- the original files the professor provided brought up 36 errors and a handful of warnings, but I altered the #include directives and got it down to 2 errors. The problematic part of the code (the part that contains the two errors) is in one of the function definitions, print_list(), in the source file. That function definition is shown below, and I've marked the two statements that have the errors using comments that say exactly what the errors say in my Xcode window under those two statements. If you want to see the entire template, I've pasted the full code from all three files at the bottom of this post, but for now, here is the function definition (in the source file) that contains the part of the code with the errors:
    void LinkedList::printlist( )
    // good for only a few nodes in a list
    if(isEmpty() == 1)
    cout << "No nodes to display" << endl;
    return;
    for(CURSOR = FRONT_ptr; CURSOR; CURSOR = CURSOR-> link)
    { cout << setw(8) << CURSOR->name; } cout << endl; // error: 'setw' was not declared in this scope
    for(CURSOR = FRONT_ptr; CURSOR; CURSOR = CURSOR-> link)
    { cout << setw(8) << CURSOR->test_grade; } cout << endl; // error: 'setw' was not declared in this scope
    As you can see, the problem is with the two statements that contain the 'setw' function. Can anyone help me figure out how to get this template working and get by these two errors? I don't know enough about linked lists to know what I can and can't mess with here to get it working. The professor recommended that I try using 'printf' instead of 'cout' for those two statements, but I don't know how to achieve the same effect (how to do whatever 'setw' does) using 'printf'. Can anyone please help me get this template working? Thank you very, very much.
    For reference, here is the full code from all three files that make up the template:
    linkedlist.h (header file):
    #ifndef LINKED_LINKED_H
    #define LINKED_LINKED_H
    struct NODE
    string name;
    int test_grade;
    NODE * link;
    class Linked_List
    public:
    Linked_List();
    void insert(string n, int score);
    void remove(string target);
    void print_list();
    private:
    bool isEmpty();
    NODE *FRONT_ptr, *REAR_ptr, *CURSOR, *INSERT, *PREVIOUS_ptr;
    #endif
    linkedlist.cpp (source file):
    #include <iostream>
    using namespace std;
    #include "linkedlist.h"
    LinkedList::LinkedList()
    FRONT_ptr = NULL;
    REAR_ptr = NULL;
    PREVIOUS_ptr = NULL;
    CURSOR = NULL;
    void Linked_List::insert(string n, int score)
    INSERT = new NODE;
    if(isEmpty()) // first item in List
    // collect information into INSERT NODE
    INSERT-> name = n;
    // must use strcpy to assign strings
    INSERT -> test_grade = score;
    INSERT -> link = NULL;
    FRONT_ptr = INSERT;
    REAR_ptr = INSERT;
    else // else what?? When would this happen??
    // collect information into INSERT NODE
    INSERT-> name = n; // must use strcpy to assign strings
    INSERT -> test_grade = score;
    REAR_ptr -> link = INSERT;
    INSERT -> link = NULL;
    REAR_ptr = INSERT;
    void LinkedList::printlist( )
    // good for only a few nodes in a list
    if(isEmpty() == 1)
    cout << "No nodes to display" << endl;
    return;
    for(CURSOR = FRONT_ptr; CURSOR; CURSOR = CURSOR-> link)
    { cout << setw(8) << CURSOR->name; } cout << endl; // error: 'setw' was not declared in this scope
    for(CURSOR = FRONT_ptr; CURSOR; CURSOR = CURSOR-> link)
    { cout << setw(8) << CURSOR->test_grade; } cout << endl; // error: 'setw' was not declared in this scope
    void Linked_List::remove(string target)
    // 3 possible places that NODES can be removed from in the Linked List
    // FRONT
    // MIDDLE
    // REAR
    // all 3 condition need to be covered and coded
    // use Trasversing to find TARGET
    PREVIOUS_ptr = NULL;
    for(CURSOR = FRONT_ptr; CURSOR; CURSOR = CURSOR-> link)
    if(CURSOR->name == target) // match
    { break; } // function will still continue, CURSOR will
    // mark NODE to be removed
    else
    { PREVIOUS_ptr = CURSOR; } // PREVIOUS marks what NODE CURSOR is marking
    // JUST before CURSOR is about to move to the next NODE
    if(CURSOR == NULL) // never found a match
    { return; }
    else
    // check each condition FRONT, REAR and MIDDLE
    if(CURSOR == FRONT_ptr)
    // TARGET node was the first in the list
    FRONT_ptr = FRONT_ptr -> link; // moves FRONT_ptr up one node
    delete CURSOR; // deletes and return NODE back to free memory!!!
    return;
    }// why no need for PREVIOUS??
    else if (CURSOR == REAR_ptr) // TARGET node was the last in the list
    { // will need PREVIOUS for this one
    PREVIOUS_ptr -> link = NULL; // since this node will become the last in the list
    REAR_ptr = PREVIOUS_ptr; // = REAR_ptr; // moves REAR_ptr into correct position in list
    delete CURSOR; // deletes and return NODE back to free memory!!!
    return;
    else // TARGET node was the middle of the list
    { // will need PREVIOUS also for this one
    PREVIOUS_ptr -> link = CURSOR-> link; // moves PREV nodes' link to point where CURSOR nodes' points
    delete CURSOR; // deletes and return NODE back to free memory!!!
    return;
    bool Linked_List::isEmpty()
    if ((FRONT_ptr == NULL) && (REAR_ptr == NULL))
    { return true; }
    else
    { return false;}
    llmain.cpp (main source file):
    #include <iostream>
    #include <string>
    #include <iomanip>
    using namespace std;
    #include "linkedlist.h"
    int main()
    Linked_List one;
    one.insert("Angela", 261);
    one.insert("Jack", 20);
    one.insert("Peter", 120);
    one.insert("Chris", 270);
    one.print_list();
    one.remove("Jack");
    one.print_list();
    one.remove("Angela");
    one.print_list();
    one.remove("Chris");
    one.print_list();
    return 0;

    setw is the equivalent of the field width value in printf. In your code, the printf version would look like:
    printf("%8s", CURSOR->name.c_str());
    I much prefer printf over any I/O formatting in C++. See the printf man page for more information. I recommend using Bwana: http://www.bruji.com/bwana/
    I do think it is a good idea to verify your code on the platform it will be tested against. That means Visual Studio. However, you don't want to use Visual Studio. As you have found out, it gets people into too many bad habits. Linux is much the same way. Both development platforms are designed to build anything, whether or not it is syntactically correct. Both GNU and Microsoft have a long history of changing the language standards just to suit themselves.
    I don't know what level you are in the class, but I have a few tips for you. I'll phrase them so that they answers are a good exercise for the student
    * Look into const-correctness.
    * You don't need to compare a bool to 1. You can just use bool. Plus, any integer or pointer type has an implicit cast to bool.
    * Don't reuse your CURSOR pointer as a temporary index. Create a new pointer inside the for loop.
    * In C++, a struct is the same thing as a class, with all of its members public by default. You can create constructors and member functions in a struct.
    * Optimize your function arguments. Pass by const reference instead of by copy. You will need to use pass by copy at a later date, but don't worry about that now.
    * Look into initializer lists.
    * In C++ NULL and 0 are always the same.
    * Return the result of an expression instead of true or false. Technically this isn't officially Return Value Optimization, but it is a good habit.
    Of course, get it running first, then make it fancy.

  • Cropping in Elements 11 - Floating in Video Problem - Help Please!

    Please help - bottom of video looks like I am floating. Any help would be greatly appeciated.

    realjeffl
    From my point of view, I believe I know what you did, and I need no screenshot, unless you cannot confirm the following results.
    I am essentially certain that I fully understand what you did. It was your use of the Crop Tool and its settings that needs fine tuning.
    If you want to crop out that curtain from the left side of the Green Screen Clip, then please try this and let us know the results.
    a. Drag the Crop Effect into your Green Screen Clip on Video 1, either into the Monitor or the clip on the Timeline (Expert view) Video 1.
    b. Make sure the clip is selected, go to the Applied Effects Palette and the Crop Panel there. Expand the Crop Panel so that you see the settings options.
    There are Left, Top, Right, and Bottom sliders there. I cannot give you exact number for your specific situation, but follow this scheme:
    Left Slider,  move in direction to cut out your curtain on the left side of the Green Screen Image.
    Top Slider, move in direction to bring image to the top of the frame just until there is no black showing at the top.
    Right Slider, move in direction to bring image to the right edge of the frame until there is not black showing at the right side
    Bottom Slider, move in direction to bring image just to the bottom of the frame until there is no black showing at the bottom.
    Place a check mark next to Zoom. The frame should be filled with no black border and your person image should be seen intact.
    Go back to the Timeline and apply the Green Screen Key Effect to your clip.
    I have just done a run through to YouTube with this workflow. Please compare my first upload to YouTube (no cropping) with the current upload that incorporated cropping to get the curtain (seen in the first upload) cut out of the picture.

    We will be watching for your comments.
    Thanks.

    I have a MacBook Pro early 2011. Does not start. After the apple show, a blank screen appear. The service said that the problem is with the video plaquue in the logic board. Need to change. Cost lmmost the same than a new MacBook Pro. Somebody has the same problem? What we can do?

    I hate to break this to you, but life isn't fair. If your job is that critically in need of a computer, then you should have a spare to use for just this kind of situation or have your employer provide you with a computer to use.
    Computers break down, just like cars. If your car breaks down do you curse the car maker or get it fixed? Surely, you paid more for your car than the computer.
    This is reality. Best get used to it because it won't get any better.

    Thanks,

    You may need to contact support and actually show them the report to really solve the problem, but here are a few things to check first:
    a) Check the report margins, make sure that they will allow the report body to display past 7".
    b) Check that the frames and repeating frames are set to horizontally variable, or expand so that they can grow if required.
    Hope this helps,

  • Metadata problem - help needed please

    A rather strange thing has happened when opening Lightroom a few moments ago and before I go and do something stupid would request some advice.
    I have a folder open containing approx 800 CR2 RAW image. The thumbnails for these images display the small icons indicating that I have applied keywords, edits and in some cases crops.
    However, the thumbnails also display the question mark and when clicked upon I receive the following 'the following files relating to this photo were present before but are now missing' and in the box below it indicates that the xmp file(s) are missing. What's strange is that I have never written out to xmp files in this folder and so they were never there to be missing in the first place.
    Now the options I have are to (a) forget about them but as there was nothing to forget this seems irrelevant or (b) to continue to track them but again, as there aren't any xmp files there aren't obviously any to track.
    I had thought that up until this point in time all my edits and crops etc were contained within the database file and if this is so why the question mark. The options I seem to have are from the menu bar to 'Read Metadata from file' but because there aren't any xmp files associated with these images doing so results in the loss of my edits, and secondly, if I choose the 'Write Metadata to File' I end up with xmp files that I do not want or need.
    Has anyone any reasonable suggestion as to why these question marks should be appearing above all the folders images (800) when the edits etc have clearly been written to the database. Yesterday no question marks today all this folders images show them so what if anything can I do about it?

    Thanks Lee and if only the answer were so simple. No - none of the files have been moved or deleted outside of Lightroom because if that were the case then I would have no files at all showing in this particular LR folder as ALL 800 images have suddenly and mysteriously had the question mark attached to them.
    As I mentioned earlier, when moving the mouse over the question mark itself it brings up the message relating to missing xmp files for which NON were every generated.
    Anyway, the problem is in the past now as I have labour intensively gone through 800 images first clicking on the question mark and then choosing the option to ignore the xmp file as there aren't any xmp files to ignore anyway, Now the right wrist is aching somewhat. :-( The task would have been made much easier if there was an option within LR to apply the 'Ignore xmp files' to ALL selected images but of course there isn't one. User request coming up me thinks.
    Never before has one application given me so much joy and so much grief. :-) :-(
