5Dmk2 recovery turns magenta ACR 5.2

When I use the 'recovery' function in ACR 5.2, the color balance of the entire image shifts to magenta, and I have to move the white balance slider 10 to 20 points toward the green to compensate. I've never had this problem with ACR and other Canon cameras, and the files do not display this color shift when processed with Aperture. This is not an issue of blown highlights or missing data. I'm hoping a fix can be found soon.

Hi
(The screen shot will be sent from YouSendIt.com)
The Canon EOS 5d MarkII
is able to shoot 3 different size.
The big one (5616 x 3744 px) is the most used.
But in this case, it was the sRAW1 (3861 x 2574 px).
Normal 5616 x 3744 px
sRAW1: 3861 x 2574 px
sRAW2: 2784 x 1856 px
My sRAW1 CR2 file was converted, April 18, 2009.
Adobe DNG Converter, ver. less than 5.3.0.21 (see note ##),
Result blue.
The same CR2 file was converted again, June 7, 2009.
Adobe DNG Converter ver. 5.4.0.47 beta:
Result better than the previous blue one.
I'm not sure about the version number used to create the blue one.
Today I tried to repeat the blue result; installing
previous versions (5.3.0.21), but
I could not repeat the blue one from April 18.
Since I did some downloads April 18 such as
"dngprofileeditor_b2_win_102208.zip"
and
"cameraprofiles_b2_win_102208.exe"
then it's most likely the current April 18,
DNG Converter, which made the blue DNG.
Anyhow, both the DNG Converter ver. 5.3.0.21,
and ver. 5.4.0.47 beta;
do not convert the sRAW1 file to a blue DNG.
Benny,
PS: I have both PS-Elements ver. 6, and PS-CS3.
So, I think the blue bug came from either the
"cameraprofiles_b2_win_102208.exe", or caused by
the DNG Converter (less ver 5.3), or whatever...
BTW. Also the small thumbnail (Vista and Explorer) is blue on the DNG file
from April 18.
If I can help with something, just tell me...

  • Using stills with effects - they are turning magenta!

    I'm using imovie 6.0 because of the effects it has just as rain and fog. Although I'm getting this message lately and don't know how to fix it: This effect generates different results for each frame, which will not show up on Still Clips. I have been previously using these effects on photos and now they are turning magenta. What am I doing wrong?
    Also is there anyway to get these effects in imovie 8.0? The version from iLife 09?

    Hi
    a. What kind of stills are You using. Using .bmp is known to get wrong color.
    I use .jpg, .tiff.
    b. There are more effects in iMovie'09 - but You can't add more ones.
    That's one of many items keeping many of us to stay in iMovie HD 6
    c. free space under 5Gb on internal (boot) hard disk gives unpredictable results
    I keep mine 25Gb free or more

  • YIKES! My image turned magenta!

    Hi Noel, back again....
    I am working on an ad that is due Monday. Because it will be printed I was working in cmyk. However, I pressed 'command' plus some unknown key on the left side of the keyboard, not the one I meant to hit, and my image turned magenta. I am freaking out because I can't find a way to get full color back. The action is not in the 'history' and command z didn't change anything either.
    I am desperate. Starting over is not an option... can anyone help me? Please USING CS4 ON A MAC 10.4.9

    I don't understand any of this channels stuff.... I am so grateful for you guys... You will never know.  Can you briefly explain what I need to know?  What the numbers mean? Why I care? And why this happened?
    You are all the best!

  • Where does recovery occur in ACR 7?

    Started using the beta, Whites appears to be a straight clipping control, Highlights works as in PS, where does recovery (synthesis of clipped channel(s)) occur?
    Richard Southworth

    I don't think I can answer your question with any authority, but generally speaking, I'd say you want to exercise the Highlights control.
    I've just been experimenting with some problematic images in which the blue channel crosses into clipping (bright skies), and so far I've found the results from Camera Raw 7 to be superior to those of Camera Raw 6.x with regard to transition into blown highlights.  GREATLY superior!  More color recovered in more area, and without abrupt transitions.
    Impressive work by the Camera Raw team in avoiding unwanted shifts and what appeared to be overflow in the calculations with 6.x!

  • Need Help in Scripting Turning Off JPEG Processing in ACR

    Back in 2005 (Win PS CS) I wrote a javascript script which allows me to batch add captions, headlines, author, etc to JPEG image files.  When CS3 came along I found I needed to turn off ACRs JPEG processing before I ran the script and on again after the script ran.  I now need to do the same thing for PS CS4 and soon CS5.  I have tried to create two (one off - another for on) actions to do that but they don't appear to work.  Can this be done by an action?  If it can done by an action can it be scripted?
    I want to thank Michael L. Hale for the great code below which worked in PS CS3:
    // Oct 3, 2007 this code from from Michael L Hale - Adobe Forums - Photoshop Scripting
    // This code allows one to determine and/or set the state of jpeg file handling in ACR
    // (i.e. get current user setting for edit->pref->file handling->file compatibility->prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG files.
    // Usage: cameraRawJPEG(bool)
    //   JpegState = cameraRawJPEG();  // true if open jpegs in ACR is on, else false
    //    cameraRawJPEG(false);  // turns OFF "open jpegs in ACR"
    //    cameraRawJPEG(true);  // turns ON "open jpegs in ACR"
        var ref = new ActionReference();
        ref.putProperty( charIDToTypeID( "Prpr" ), charIDToTypeID( "FlSP" ) );
        ref.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID( "capp" ), charIDToTypeID( "Ordn" ), charIDToTypeID( "Trgt" ) );
        if(bool != undefined && bool.constructor == Boolean){
            var desc = new ActionDescriptor();
            desc.putReference( charIDToTypeID( "null" ), ref );
            var desc1 = new ActionDescriptor();
            desc1.putBoolean( stringIDToTypeID( "cameraRawJPEG" ), bool );
            desc.putObject( charIDToTypeID( "T   " ), charIDToTypeID( "FlSv" ), desc1 );
            executeAction( charIDToTypeID( "setd" ), desc, DialogModes.NO );
        return executeActionGet(ref).getObjectValue(charIDToTypeID( "FlSP" )).getBoolean(stringIDToTypeID( "cameraRawJPEG" ));
    Using the scriptlistener I was able to get the code below, but it doesn't work. I think for the same reason that regular actions Edit --> Preferences -->Camera Raw -->Jpeg & Tiff Handling -->Disable JPEG support  doesn't work:
    // ===ACR JPEG Off ====================================================
    function ACR_JPEG_Off() {
    var idDlt = charIDToTypeID( "Dlt " );
        var desc3 = new ActionDescriptor();
        var idnull = charIDToTypeID( "null" );
            var ref2 = new ActionReference();
            var idActn = charIDToTypeID( "Actn" );
            ref2.putName( idActn, "jpeg-off" );
            var idASet = charIDToTypeID( "ASet" );
            ref2.putName( idASet, "Default Actions" );
        desc3.putReference( idnull, ref2 );
      executeAction( idDlt, desc3, DialogModes.NO );
      return;

    Thanks Michael!  I hoped you'd respond. The CS4 ACR JPEG support interface has changed from CS3, so that may be why you code doesn't work.
    I don't think I copied the log file incorrectly, but I can try again.  Can you please please explain your original script - I can't quite get it.
    I also tried just using an action - Edit-->Preferences-->Camera Raw-->JPEG & Tiff Handling -->Disable JPEG support but that doesn't work.  I wonder if I need to set both the JPRG and Tiff settings to make it work???
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Magenta Tint on Workspace

    When I click on any photo in bridge or Lightroom. It turns a horrible Magenta colour. These aren't NEF files, but CR2 or jpeg. Even the gray surround in Camera Raw is Magenta. I've tried reverting to ACR 4.2 but to no avail. Only happened after I did a Lightroom backup today.
    Anyone any ideas? TIA.

    Mac Apps: Photoshop CS3 and Bridge 2.1.1.9
    PC Apps: Photoshop CS2 and Bridge CS3
    Equipment:
    2 Gateway E Series Desktop PC running Photoshop CS2 and Bridge CS3
    MacBook Intel 2.16 / 2 GB RAM / OS 10.4.11
    Mac G4 Quicksilver 2GB Ram OS 10.4.11
    I have the same problem as Mick but with a slight twist. Use the same image on all machines - a Nikon D1 Camera Raw/NEF (that's what I use to import the images to Photoshop).
    I have a MacBook and G4 and use 2 Gateway desktops. Using Photoshop CS2 on the PCs - no problem. Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 or Bridge CS3 on my MacBook and G4 gives the same ugly magenta problem. CS2 and Bridge previews and opens the RAW files perfectly on the PCs (I haven't told anyone else yet ;^) ).
    I just got and installed CS3 on the MacBook and G4 and get the ugly magenta images. Purge cache as noted before, images look OK. Click on images, they turn magenta. I couldn't see anything in the setup of CS3 that looked like it would eliminate this problem. All Camera RAW 4.3 settings were installer defaults. There doesn't seem to be anything really obvious to me that would eliminate the problem.
    Am I overlooking something obvious here? Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Noise, Sharpening and ACR

    I have recently switched from processing my raw files from Aperture to Adobe Camera Raw 4.4.1. I shoot landscapes with the Canon 1Ds Mark III, low ISO, and wish to make very large prints (30-50"). After reading "Real World Camera Raw with CS3" it seems like the authors say that capture sharpening can be accomplished in ACR instead of what I was doing right after Aperture (with sharpening off)- that is, using Ninja Noise and then capture sharpen with Photokit Sharpener. But if I now capture sharpen in ACR I won't be able to use Ninja Noise since one should not sharpen noise. Right? So does this mean that if I capture sharpen in ACR that I should also use ACR's Noise Reduction? Or should I turn off ACR's Sharpening and Noise Reduction and do as I did before - use Ninja and PhotoKit sharpening after raw processing? (I hope this makes sense - I'm still learning the basics). Also any rough settings for what I'm doing would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

    >Not at all. There's ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with that workflow. I would recommend it myself.
    >[EDIT] except I prefer Noise Ninja most of the time, and Noiseware in a few cases.
    I've discussed this matter with Gordon on another thread, but a few points are worth repeating here. On page 157 of his Image Sharpening with Adobe Photoshop PSCS2, Bruce Fraser states, "Always do noise reduction before sharpening. If you sharpen, you'll almost certainly make the noise worse; the noise reduction tool will have to work harder, and will probably wipe out the sharpening you did anyway."
    Most noise reduction tools do not eliminate noise but merely make it less visible. When you sharpen after noise reduction, some or much of the noise may reappear. If you do the sharpening first, this problem is eliminated, but the effect of your sharpening may also be wiped out.
    Sharpening and noise reduction are basically inverse processes and work against another. Some of these problems may be eased with the use of masks. You can use a surface mask during noise reduction to help confine the NR to smooth areas where the noise is most noticeable and keep the NR away from the edges where sharpness would suffer. Similarly, you can use an edge mask during sharpening to help confine the sharpening to the edges.
    That said, Noise Ninja can work reasonably well on JPEG images that have been sharpened in camera as they often are. In this case, one has to use a different noise profile for the best results.

  • Recovery connected to noise reduction rendering

    Just noticed when I crank the recovery slider up (ACR 4.4 Profile), Lightroom stops rendering fit view with color noise reduction applied when I get to 55 in the develop module. i.e. at recovery of 55 and greater, no color noise reduction is applied, 54 and below, color noise reduction is applied.
    Not sure what to say about it - just an interesting observation for the hyper-inquisitive...
    R

    Yeah, it does tend to dull a photo, however with ACR 4.4 (a linear profile) it can be cranked all the way to 100 without screwing up the hues, and I often crank it all the way up as a test and then lower to taste... - that's when I noticed the unexpected connection with the color noise reduction.
    PS - I sometimes use recovery to recover highlights (and dim the light tones as side effect), then use the tone curve to brighten the light tones back up.
    Summary:
    - With ACR 4.4, I feel free to use recovery 0-100 - often in conjunction with the tone curve to compensate for side-effect repression of non-highlight tones. With non-linear profiles, I strive for highlight-recovery=0 in most photos, due to unfavorable hue shifting.
    - For some reason, Highlight Recovery amount is affecting Lightroom's decision about whether to render color NR in the fit view.
    Cheers,
    Rob

  • Help.  Images are magenta in Photoshop and LR, only.

    I have recently installed Photoshop and LR CC on a new computer (Dell Precision T7600).  Previously color-balanced and printed images are severely magenta.  The files look fine in preview but change to magenta when opened.  Web images, powerpoints and pdfs look fine unless opened in Photoshop or LR, at which point they turn magenta.  The background color in LR and PS is not magenta.  Just the images. Could it be a glitch in the CC download or a problem with the new video card (NVIDIA NVS 310).  Or something else.  Help.  I can't work.

    Your display profile is wrong, and the two color managed applications you use (which are the only ones paying attention to the display profile) are trying to compensate for the incorrect display properties.
    Fix the display profile (in the OS display settings) so that it correctly reflects the properties of your display.

  • Jpgs different color in bridge

    Starting today, jpgs that i save look different in bridge than they do in photoshop.
    This is not true about jpgs that I saved before today. They look the same in bridge and PS.
    The jpgs I'm saving now appear distinctly warmer than they do in Photoshop.
    It also appears to be a bridge only problem. I've imported some examples to iPhoto. They look the same in iPhoto and Photoshop, but look reddish in Bridge.
    It also seems to be specific to .jpgs. I'm not having the same problem with RAWs from ACR, or if I save a file to tiff. In both those cases, bridge previews the image to look the same as it does in Photoshop.
    Any ideas?
    Duffy Pratt

    I've also seen a magenta shift in JPG thumbnails in Bridge. I've isolated the problem on my computer to when JPGs are saved in progressive format. Choosing Baseline ("Standard") in the jpg options dialog box is the workaround.
    This one appears dangerous because it CHANGES the RGB color numbers of a file upon opening if you use Camera Raw to open it from Bridge. BTW, I'm using Camera Raw 4.3.1.
    Steps to reproduce:
    *Make a new document in Photoshop.
    *Fill with 50% gray - check color numbers with eyedropper ->128,128,128
    *Save file as a jpg with Progressive selected. Close.
    *View in Bridge - looks fine
    *Click on thumbnail in Bridge - it turns magenta.
    *Double-click to open in Camera Raw from Bridge (a preference setting) and hold cursor over the now magenta-ish gray document. New numbers are 132,125,132. Definitely magenta.
    *Click the Open Image button to open it in Photoshop and the altered color numbers (132,125,132)now show in Photoshop.
    As I mentioned, an experiment using Baseline settings in the JPG options works around the issue for me.

  • Printing problem - HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer, Red color fads on 4th copy

    I have an HP HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer, and am trying to print 75 copies of a program for our event. After the first 5-6 pages the RED in my program starts to turn magenta. I have brand new HP ink, and am printing on HP Color Injet Paper. I have renectly replaced the Black/Yellow printhead (at least 6 months ago). At first when I cleaned the printheads, I could print 2 or 3 pages showing my RED color. Then turns back to magenta. When I received the test patterns after cleaning the print heads they are all perfect with no lines.
    What is going on and how can I fix it?

    Hi TM1997,
    I understand you have an Officejet 8500 Wireless that is not printing red properly, it keeps turning to magenta. I'm sorry to hear this, but I will definitely do my best to help you!
    As I'm sure you saw, when replacing the black and yellow printhead, that there are two printheads in the Officejet 8500 and the second one controls the magenta and cyan. I would suggest that you first have a look through this Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues document. You can also manually clean your printhead with the steps in this 'The Following Printhead Appears to be Missing or Damaged' or 'The Following Printhead has a Problem... document.
    Hope this helps, have a great day!!

  • Wireless Card does not work in Windows 8.1 for G585

    I just wanted to inform someone that the wireless network card does not work in Windows 8.1 Preview. I suspect the driver needs to be updated. When I go to the Device Manager it appears as a Realtek device RTL8192DE instead of a Qualcomm device that does not start. I tried installing the latest driver from the website but it makes the computer crash (BSOD) when trying to reboot after the installation which makes the Windows 8 automatic recovery turn on and I had to restore the system to a previous state before the driver installation.
    For now, I just refreshed my system back to Windows 8, instead of trying to use Windows 8.1 Preview .  If you have any suggestions, it would be great, otherwise I'll wait for a driver update.

  • TV Tuner with my Media Center is not schanning all chanels.

    Had PC recently worked on to clear out virous.  Afterwards, I can not receive all scanned TV chanels.  I cannot pickup half of my HD chanels.  This is not a cable or modem problem.  Is there a driver or solfware change that could turnup my my tuner or trobleshoop this problem?

    Sounds like Windows or WMC may be corrupted. I would try a System Restore to revert the system back to a previous date.
    Also ensure the channel width in WMC is set to 7mhz, not 8mhz.
    Also update the BIOS.
    If that's no help, then back up your important data and run Recovery to reimage the HDD back to its factory state.
    To run Recovery, turn on the notebook and hold the 0 (Zero) key down.
    You should create Recovery Discs first, there should be an icon on the Desktop, or use the Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator from the Start Menu.
    Now if it still doesn't work after a fresh Windows install, then there could be a hardware problem. In which case, you would need to send the notebook to a Toshiba Service Center.

  • Problems downloading movies since upgrading to mavericks

    Ever since upgrading to mavericks when it was first released, I have had nothing but problems downloading movies in iTunes. What normally would take no more than 30 minutes to download a movie and iTunes extras has now turned into waiting more than 3 hours with no less than 4 error messages saying iTunes cannot download the movie and I have to relaunch iTunes or reboot my entire system. It is getting quite annoying and I can't seem to find a solution.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

    I upgraded to Mavericks on two computers and have display problems too! I have CC on one Macbook Pro (2011) and CS6 on another (2012) and I'm now almost positive my display problems are triggered by InDesign. I don't have to be doing anything special, and I don't have to be working in InDesign at the time, but InDesign has to be open and I get things like this:
    Once it turns magenta or green, that's when I have to boot the system. I can still work with the glitchy display before it turns colors and if I'm still able to quit InDesign while it's glitching, the display goes back to normal. Same on both computers and the 2011 one has a new logic board in it.
    At first I thought it had something to do with connecting my hard drive or my external display, but the display issues happened with both computers with nothing hooked up. Those are ruled out now. I took my 2012 computer to Apple and they told me it was a software issue and all my hardware is ok. Obviously they didn't fix the software issue because it's still happening.
    This is not normal and needs to be fixed soon!

  • Problems since upgrading to Mavericks

    I am experiencing problems with CC applications since upgrading to Mavericks. Mostly Screen and display issues.
    In Photoshop, the top menu bar where the red, yellow , green window buttons normally sit has disappeared and it seems I cannot drag the window down to reveal (if that is the problem)
    In Indesign, The program opens but I cannot see any workspace at all, even when I open an existing ID file.
    Premiere Pro, Bridge,  appear to work OK
    After effects and Muse indicated both required upgrades, yet the CC application Manager does not indicate any upgrades required or available.
    I have not tried other apps.
    Is anyone else experiencing problems since upgrading to Mavericks and if so, does anyone know if Adobe are working on fixes?
