5G iPod has pixel problem

My 5G iPod has pixels that are malfunctioning. I'm not sure if they are "out" or not but, they seem to be the reverse of the color they are supposed to be. These pixels are not in a row but, in a small random pattern. Does anyone have any information on what sort of problem this could be and if it can be fixed?

Hmm... sounds like your model is technically considered a 5th generation iPod, or iPod with video, rather than an iPod classic. Since the iPod is out of warranty, take a look at this page to determine the cost of replacement, based on the capacity of your model:
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/#warranty6
Bear in mind that the cost of repair listed gets you a replacement iPod (albeit refurbished, but I've had excellent luck with Apple refurbished products) that comes with 90 days of hardware coverage.
There are some third party service options if those prices seem a bit steep to you:

  • My iPod has a problem. I cannot fit the charger into the bottom of the device, nor can I fit it on to the docking station. It is as if the bottom mechanism has been bent out of shape. Where would I get it repaired? Would it be expensive?

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours. The price depends upon model and capacity

  • IPod stuck pixel problems

Bought a new video iPod at my local Apple store, got home and notcied it had several stuck pixels (white glowing dots- mostly noticable against a black background and in a darker environment). Took it back to the Apple store, the genius tried to give me a line about how the screen "takes a while to burn in". What?? once he realized I was not an idiot, he agreed to exchange it sans the restocking fee.... You guessed it, the replacement has the same problem I am sick and tired of this issue with LCD screens. It is unacceptable for retailers to sell defective screens and claim that they are "normal". There is no clear definitive standard for this pixel problem, and I have had it. Went through 3 PSPs as well and returned them all before finally giving up. I am taking this iPod back, and telling them it is unacceptable. They can open as many as it takes to get me a defect-free screen, or they can refund my money and I'll look elsewhere. It is unbelievable that a company can sell a product meant for viewing video on a 2.5 inch screen and can claim thta glowing white dots are "normal pixel anomalies". My 42 inch plasma doesn't have a single dead or stuck pixel, and I expect the same on all my electronics with an LCD or pixel based screen.

Have you tried the Pixel Fixer for iPhone?
I know if you do a Google Search for it there will be an App for the iPhone that will test and attempt to fix stuck pixels.
Otherwise you may wish to follow the basic article below for iPod Touch Hardware, and then make an appointment at local Apple retail for assistance or contact iPod Touch Support.

  • My Ipod Nano Has Pixel Problem

I have an Ipod Nano 6g. (The tiny touchscreen one) I turned it on one day and there was a really weird mark on the upper right area. It was gray dots that made a really weird shape that looked like hebrew. The next day I turned it on again and the size had doubled. I could it was something wrong with the pixels on the inside. I started scolling down on my screen and as I did so the pixels moved. Is it my fault? What is wrong with it? Is it fixable?

Also the pixels are blue on the bottom and black on the top. B\

  • What do you do when you iPod has a problem backIng up while updating

Well I was trying to update to iOS 6 but my iPod (4th gen)said it had problems backing up, I have the latest iTunes and it's fine with normal syncing. Please help me I don't want to lose all my data

You pray at least something will be backed up, and hope you have a previous backup on iTunes (as you should have regularly taken anyway.)
You might also try recovering data through syncing with iTunes afterwards, but that's not quite the same...

  • IPod has a problem charging.

OK so I found my iPod last month after having been m.i.a. for 7 months. So I plugged it into my computer and let it charge. It's been charging for over a month now and when I unplugged it and tried to listen to some music it said that the battery was completely drained. It played about 17 seconds of one song and then died and it keeps doing that every time I try to use it. The warranty is up so exchanging it is out of the question.
    Can anyone help??
4th generation U2 iPod   Windows ME

iPod battery should run around 18 months before it needs to replacement. However, I discover that once the iPod carrying very low battery level, if may failed to get charged by connecting with a PC via USB. Therefore, using an ac charger could be one of the solution

  • My ipod has a problem =(

ok i have an iPod mini, and its worked perfectly for like a year, but ever since I updated windows, it hasnt been able to pic up the iPod. it charges and everything but the songs dont go into the iPod and its not recognized on my computer(the drive doesnt appear after its connected) i would appreciate it if someone could help.

OK if its charging, but not showing the "Do Not DIsconnect" then the PC is not connecting to it. It may be the USB ports/card does not have its drivers or its disabled.
Is this a laptop or Desktop? I take for granted its a HP?
Goto control panel>system>hardware tab and hit "Device Manager" double click "Universal Serial Bus" and make sure all listings do not have weird icons or a red X on them.
If they don't, disconnect the ipod from the PC, put it in "Disk Mode" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651 then connect it to the PC and see if its then seen by iTUnes or windows

  • New Ipod Classic syncing problems, restoring problems

    Hello,
Just got my 80gb Ipod Classic yesterday, and have had syncing problems, and now Itunes does not recognize it at all.
I'm using the latest version of Itunes (7.6.2.9)
Ipod Firmware 1.1.2 (or whatever the newest is)
    Windows XP Pro
I'm a long-time user of a 5g 30gb Ipod and never have had issues like this. I am syncing to the same Itunes library as my old Ipod. Connecting my new Ipod Classic, I updated the firmware, and tried to sync. Halfway through the sync, I got an error. I disconnected the ipod and reset it. I tried syncing again, and again it would hang at some point, had to disconnect, and then it said my ipod had no music, but with 60gb free only. So obviously a database problem on the ipod and some mp3 files that my new ipod classic didn't like (though my old 5g ipod has no problem with this library).
Next, I connected and did a Restore.
I removed the culprit mp3 files from Itunes Library, attempted to sync again. Again, it would freeze at some point during sync. Had to disconnect Ipod while Itunes was frozen. Again, Ipod says has no music but with only about 60gb free.
So Ipod is corrupted again. The problem is when I connect it to my PC, Itunes no longer recognizes it, so I can't do a Restore. What do I do?

Just wanted to post my results, for future users benefit:
Putting my Ipod into Disk Mode, connected to computer, Itunes recognized it, performed a Restore.
    Still had syncing/freezing issues.
Decided that my Itunes library database was corrupted. Went into My Documents > My Music, and deleted the Itunes Folder, except for the containing Artwork Folder.
Have been rebuilding my Library from scratch since, and have had no syncing problems yet again.
Only problem is that in the outermost Podcast menu, it is always empty. The only conveninent way to access my Podcasts is to make a playlist and put them all in it.

  • My video Ipod has stopped song playback

My four month old video ipod (60G) has stopped playing songs. It allows me to select songs and brings up the artwork as if about to start the time counter goes to 0.00 but never starts even though there is an arrow in the top of the screen indicating that it is playing.
I reset the ipod several times to no avail then reset to factory settings today loaded my full library and this hadn't worked either.
I have installed the recent software patch too.
    please help me

Im not sure if the warrenty is still in effect. It is 2 Years old and the problem is that it will not update. No dont tell me about restoring my ipod, restarting computer, reinstalling itunes, and etc. I have done that plenty of times. The first 2 time my ipod has this problem those worked. But it randomly stopped working. So I restarted computer, didnt work, reinstalled itunes, didnt work, restarted ipod, didnt work, charged ipod fully, didnt work. So I decided to restore my whole ipod and now it wont even update the songs anymore. Could I take this to a apple store and see if they can fix it. Ill be going by one today.

    please help...
my computer is not recognizing my ipod classic gen 5. it shows the sad face then i did the basic troubleshooting until logo comes out...
still my computer is not recognizing my ipod.. it still says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

See here: iPod displays a sad iPod icon
Note that it's often a good sign of a hardware issue with the iPod's hard drive meaning the iPod will need to be serviced or replaced.

  • 'ipod has not found a sensor' - could it be a problem with plane?

I have just received a nike+ ipod sport kit, which I bought on ebay. Receiver is probably ok because the application works correcty. But when I am asked to walk around to locate sensor, it doesn't find anything, writting a message 'ipod has not found a sensor'. I'm sure that it's not in a sleeping mode.
I was thinking if there could be a problem with delivery. Like some problem during flight or some mechanical damage.
    Could anyone help please?

The same thing happened to me with a brand-new one! I wonder if someone knows what to do? I tried to press the sensor button to put it to wake - no change. Advantage on you I can go to the store and get it exchanged if required - I'll keep you informed.

  • My iphone 3gS camera has a dark shadow looking dot on it. I lloked it up and i think maybe its a pixel problem. What can apple do to fix it?

My iphone 3GS camera has a dark shadow looking dot on it. I lloked it up and i think maybe its a pixel problem. What can apple do to fix it?

Hmm, then it could be something somehow with the actual camera sensor behind the lens or maybe software issue. But i'd recommend ringing Apples support line and seeing if they can fix it, if it's still in warrantly they should do it free of charge.

  • Ipod has unknown reboot problem

i don't know what the technical name for it is, but my ipod keeps rebooting itself. I have let the battery die, and if i charge it all it does is start rebooting itself again. it turns itself on, the apple logo and the backlight come up, and then it turns itself off, repeating the process infinitely until out of power.
ive tried everything. i can't plug it into my computer, my computer won't recognize that it's even plugged in because of it's constant off/on problem.
can anyone help? has this problem ever been experienced?

This exact thing happened to me. I just let it sit out for a while (if it is out of battery then let it charge.) It went through its nonsense of starting and repeating and eventually it went to the main menu. (Give it some time if it needs, it will get past it eventually.) After it finally went to the main menu and I was able to hook it to my computer then I restored it in iTunes and no problems since!
Hope this works for you! And welcome to Apple Discussions!

  • My iPod touch 5G has a problem with its back camera, there's a dark spot on picture quality and won't focus, it will only focus on things 5-7 inches away from the iPod. Could I go to apple and see if they can repair it or give me a new one?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

If the iPod is defective and not abused Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one at no cost
