5G Ipod has "rebooted itself" 4 times in 24 hrs

While I am incredibly impressed with my new 60g 5G (white) Ipod, It has unceremoniously re booted (back to the logo) 4 times since I have had it. It's done it during both simple music playback, and also now Movie playback.
On the outside chance it got a bad load of the OS, I ran the updater to reload it. It's still reloading all my stuff again now, (and has a while to go)
I just wanted to know if anyone else has ever had this happen? I had my 20g 3G model for nearly 3 years and it NEVER did anything as disruptive as this.

That was my first inclination, and I did that earlier today. Then I reloaded all of my content and tried again. It ran for about 2 hours, then without warning, and still showing a full battery, it just stopped playing in my ears, (just mp3 audio) and when I looked at the player, it still had the song showing for another 3 seconds, and then the whole thing reset itself back to the apple logo screen again.
This time I also took note of what settings it remembered and what it had forgotten... It forgot that I had selected shuffle, and what playlist I was in, but it remembered my backlight timer setting for example.
Very disturbing. I am going to let it sit on the desk to make sure it also does this without being moved. - Perhaps there is a power connector loose inside or something?

  • My new iphone 4 has restarted itself ten times

I have had it an hour and it has reset itself ten times already. Not looking good. Sorry eleven times now. Getting more angry by the minute.

If your warranty is still valid, send in for a new phone. I had the same issue with my 3GS 2 days back. I had to go to a specialist to get it fix.
there is this cable just below the phone jack that was loose. The whole module from mute to power and phone jack are connected. Any problem with this little cable, the phone would just shut down and restart all day long.
I fixed mine and since my phone was no longer on warranty, I just paid to get it fixed.
Works fine now though the phone jack is still acting up a little but its OK.

  • Music hangs while browsing, then iPod touch reboots itself , 1.1.3

    Hi,
usually when I'm listening to music and browsing the web, one or two of those apps crash after a short while using 1.1.2. I was curious what 1.1.3 does.
I was listening to music podcast and browsing with mobile safari. During loading a web page, mobile safari stopped to show more progress and the music was hanging, looping a bit. Finally the iPod was rebooting. Not a great improvement, if you ask me.
    Regards,
    Rainer Joswig

Are you saying that the issue is present in 1.1.3?
I'm not seeing it, but I've only spent a limited time testing...

  • HT1435 iPod Classic reboots itself every minute, is there a way to restore it?

After populating a new iPod Classic up to 50GB of 160GB space, it reboots itself every minute. No chance for iTunes to recognise so no way to reset/reload the device.
Any other way anyone can suggest? Mainly to delete the contents before replacing/returning to the shop.

Have you had a look at Troubleshooting here...

  • Computer has reboots itself

Since installing Mavericks about 10 days ago, I have had two instances where my computer has reboot by itself.
Anyone else having this problem? Working on a 27in iMac Late 2009

    Sounds like kernel panics.
See: OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."

  • IPod touch rebooted itself!

My iPod touch 3rd gen (with 4 gen software) rebooted itself. The ipod told me to connect to iTunes, but when I connected the iPod, iTunes told me it can't connect to my iPod because it is locked with a passcode, and that I have to type the passcode on the pod, and it does have a passcode I programed.. But I can't type it on because the iPod is telling me to connect to itunes!

  • 5800 Phone reboots itself every time I recieve cal...

I've just upgraded my 5800 to the latest firmware in the UK for Vodafone 20.0.0.12. But now every time I receive a call the phone just restart itself, has anyone else had the same problem and is there a fix. please helpppppppppppppppp

Try disabling 3G to see if thats the cause, if so request a new sim card. Menu> Settings > Connectivity > Network > Network mode - set to GSM.
If that doesn't help try the following reset codes, if the first one doesn't solve the problem try the second.  The first code will just reset your settings.  The second will reset everything and wipe all of your data.  Be sure to backup before using either of them.
Enter these like dialing a number:
Reset to factory defaults (*#7780#) : Restores settings but preserves user data (photos, 3rd party apps etc).
Reset (*#7370#) : This reformats completely the C: drive. All applications and files stored on this drive will be lost and clean default files will be rewritten.
If after these codes you still have the problem you will need to contact vodafone as it may be a sim card or hardware fault.

  • Iphone reboots itself

I got a new iphone couple of weeks back. It is keep reboot by itself; restored couple of times without any luck. It also reboots when connected to laptop for charging. help please...

I got a replacement about 2 months ago (first one had dust in it) and the replacement has rebooted itself 2 times (that I have noticed). I will be returning to see apple again here in a bit -- you should probably do the same.

  • Ipod has unknown reboot problem

i don't know what the technical name for it is, but my ipod keeps rebooting itself. I have let the battery die, and if i charge it all it does is start rebooting itself again. it turns itself on, the apple logo and the backlight come up, and then it turns itself off, repeating the process infinitely until out of power.
ive tried everything. i can't plug it into my computer, my computer won't recognize that it's even plugged in because of it's constant off/on problem.
can anyone help? has this problem ever been experienced?

This exact thing happened to me. I just let it sit out for a while (if it is out of battery then let it charge.) It went through its nonsense of starting and repeating and eventually it went to the main menu. (Give it some time if it needs, it will get past it eventually.) After it finally went to the main menu and I was able to hook it to my computer then I restored it in iTunes and no problems since!
Hope this works for you! And welcome to Apple Discussions!

  • IPod reboots itself after one particular track.

    Hi,
I've tried finding the answer through Google, but had no luck.
My iPod touch reboots itself after I choose to play a particular track. It happens as soon as the track has finished playing. It's strange because it only happens if I manually select this track to be played- it doesn't happen when the iPod selects it (like when it's on shuffle). I bought the song from iTunes so I'm sure it's not corrupt and this didn't happen with my iPod nano...

"it forgets what album and track you were playing before the recharge."
If you are charging it via a computer, that's normal. You are making a connection to the computer and it will show the "do not disconnect" screen. After disconnection, it reverts to the main menu.
If you charge via the wall charger, it will 'remember' where you left off.

  • MacPro 2,1 apparently rebooting itself in the night?

    Hey everyone,
I have a Mac Pro 2,1 running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and almost daily, when I wake it up from sleep it acts like it has rebooted itself at some point during the night (login items showing). I do have it set to wake on LAN, and going back through the console event logs, it appears like it's waking itself up hourly to announce itself on the network, as it should be. But I'm also seeing indications that some of those wakes are triggering reboots, and I have no clue why.
I did recently upgrade the system with all new drives (240GB Samsung 840 SSD for OS, 2x3TB Toshiba HDDs in RAID1 for my User folder, 4TB Hitachi for Time Machine) and a Newer 2-port eSATA card (in slot 4), but the machine was exhibiting this behavior before the upgrades. I reinstalled everything from scratch at the time of the drive upgrades, so I doubt it's anything to do with the new hardware... I hoped that the clean install of everything would fix whatever was going on, but obviously it didn't.
Any thoughts as to what might be causing the phantom reboots?
    Thanks folks,
    Jeff

using an older too small UPS and have issues, of course it could be showing its age (or not) but always worth looking at.
Rosetta and upgrades - of course a day will come when Mac Pro might not support pre-Lion, right now we can dual boot 10.6.8 and Lion/ML if desired.
Not having any device connected except kb/mouse, nothing on that Newer card incl. the Voyager would reduce that as contributor.
Rosetta has to act to translate and be its own super process VM, getting rid of it was a blessing. I would "consider" a dual boot setup and have Lion... just for testing your system... unless this more academic curiosity and worry.
FBDIMMs are always worth making sure that they are not just working, but working as cool as possible, closer to 60*C and how old or what mix of size and brands are in there.
My system iwth dozen plus programs and using half the 16GB is like silk the way it handles and responds now. Never better and I attribute that to both Lion and of course SSD Samsung. I use to use an older SSD (Dec 2010) and I could not tell the difference between it and a 150GB 10K VR. Now it is night and day on the Samsung 840... Yours should be doing the same.

  • VPN3005 Reboots Itself

My vpn box has been rebooting itself several times last month, and I've been researching for a possible explanation or solution to this issue, but I couldn't find much information so far. Current IOS is vpn3005-4.1.7.Q-k9.bin, 21 Feb 20007.
From the logs, it showed "Assertion: "0" failed, in file memory.c, line 354"...
Seems like it has some kind of memory issue, has anyone encountered this issue before?
I am planning to upgrade the IOS to the latest version (vpn3005-4.7.2.P-k9.bin, 6 August 2008), but thought that someone may know what's going on before I do the software upgrade.
    Your input is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

You need to do IOS up gradation. it may solve your rebooting issue.

  • On my PC, in I-Tunes, my iPod (touch) button disappears every time I try to sync or update.  Everything has been rebooted, but no changes. Any ideas on how to sync to the IPod?

On my PC, in I-Tunes, the iPod (touch) button disappears every time I try to sync or update.  Everything has been rebooted, but no changes. Any ideas on how to sync to the IPod?  Better yet, how to keep the ipod button on screen when itunes is open and the ipod is connected?

    - Have you tried another USB port and cable?
    - Inspect the dock connector for bend or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • My ipod suddenly rebooted for a second time, also problems with turning on

My 32gb ipod touch has been having problems recently. Sometimes when I have no music playing and I sleep it, it just turns off. Sometimes when I have no music playing and I sleep it, it goes to the last thing I was doing (without going to the password screen), shows a loading sign, then turns off. Also, When loading something, the ipod sometimes freezes and the song is like a broken record. Also, to turn on my ipod I have to turn it on once, hold down the home and sleep buttons for ten seconds, then turn it on again, then I have to wait an average of four minutes. So today (this also happened two weeks ago) my ipod froze while my music was paused. I tried turning it on again the usual way, but that didn't work. I left it alone while it had the apple logo on it. I came back and found the screen off, which usually means that it turned on finally and was just auto locked. But then the screen came up from when I first got the ipod, with the symbol of the connector cable going towards the itunes symbol. As i mentioned before, this happened two weeks ago, and I had to resync everything, and I lost all the data and save files for all my games. Also, I have downloaded a lot more apps since I rebooted it last time, and I never synced them to the computer. Before wasting my time again, I want to know if there's anything wrong with my ipod.

The only way to turn off the ipod is to use the sleep/wake button and then turning the red slider. The only setting to switch it off automatically would be the Timer function:
    Timer
Set the timer: Tap Timer, then flick to set the number of hours and minutes. Tap Start to start the timer.
Choose the sound: Tap When Timer Ends.
Set a sleep timer: Set the timer, then tap When Timer Ends and choose Sleep iPod.
When you set a sleep timer, iPod touch stops playing music or video when the timer ends.
If you start the timer and go to another iPod touch application, the timer continues
running in the background. (user guide page 89)
And if the batteries are almost empty the ipod will turn off by itself and you will have difficulties to start it up again until you charged it a couple of minutes.

  • My iPod wont turn on anymore. I have had my iPod since the end of January of 2012, Last night it shut off on me. It keeps trying to reboot itself, but all it does it show the apple symbol, then the screen goes white and reboots again. I need help. :(

    Hi, My name is Cassie.
I bought my iPod off of amazon just around the end of January of this year (2012). Last night I was playing around on my iPod. Listening to pandora, and editing pictures. I got to a picture and clicked edit, and then my iPod shut off. It rebooted itself and seemed to be running as if nothing had happened. I put my music back on and went back to the picture and tried to edit it again. I clicked the edit button and the ipod shut off again. This time, it kept rebooting. It went to the apple symbol to turn on and about thirty seconds, the time it normally takes to turn on, the whole screen went white and then shut off and tried rebooting again. It kept doing this over and over again. After a while, it did eventually stop, but only to a completely white screen. It was like that all night long because I fell asleep. (gave up on it). It is now the afternoon and after I held the lock button and the home button down the screen when off. I let it sit for about a half an hour, then I tried turning it on again. But it still is doing the same thing. I have no idea what I could have done to make it do this. Unfortunalty, I am not home to connect it to my own iTunes, but regaurdless, it wont even connect to the computer. I did have my ipod plugged in the whole time it was rebooting and shutting off last night. It was connected to my wall jack which normally works fine. But even having it plugged into the computer as it is now, its still doing the same thing. I am dissapointed that I might end up loosing everything that I have on it. I have not been able to sync it to my computer to save all the apps and pictures and music I have stored on it. I really do hope I can get some help or advice!
    Thank You!!
    -Cassie Lawrence
