5G iPod No "Docking Sound"?

I have an original 5G iPod. My 3G iPod a little warbling sound when you put in the dock. There is no docking sound at all from the 5G when I put it in the dock. Is this normal? Is the docking sound gone?
It works fine in all other respects. The clicker sound is clear and easy to hear through the internal speaker. This is kind of an odd question because I've had this since they first came out almost a year ago -- and it's never made a docking sound. But a couple days ago docking it after not having used it for some long time -- there was still a decent charge on the battery -- it did make a few beeps when I docked it. At least I think it did; it may have even come from a charging cell phone nearby.
At any rate, no docking sound on the original 5G iPods w/ video?

Well, I spoke too soon... two days of using the ipod and it worked fine, BUT I realized I didn't leave it charging over night. Third night I had it on all night so a full charge and once again it didn't play audio in the morning. I shows that it's playing, the time for the song/podcast changes, the play symbol is on (not pause) but no audio. I have to reset the ipod and then it works fine. Then later in the day I try to play it and it won't even play! Menu navigation works but I click on the play button and it won't change the play time.
So I'm back to square one! This ipod has a problem!
Any ideas? I'm ready to take it in to the Apple store before the warrantee runs out.

Can anyone help please, when i connect ipod to docking station i have no sound?

    Did it work before?
Does the manufacturer say it will work with your model iPod and iOS?
    Does it charge?
Is the iPod fully seated in the dock?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Ipod Nano Compatibility with Ipod Universal Dock and Remote

I have an 8GB Black 2nd Gen iPod Nano. I want to connect it to my stereo. I was told that the Apple Ipod Universal Dock would be a good solution.
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=6C0 4E07A&nplm=MA045G/C
The website says that it is compatible with my nano, so no big deal right? I just wanted to make sure it would work fine with my iPod nano before I went and bought one. Does it come with the AV cable to connect the dock to my stereo / tv? DOes the dock have a graphical menu interface like some of the third party docks/remotes have?
Also, will the Apple Ipod Remote work with the universal dock?
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=BB5 E48CD&nplm=MA128G/A
The apple store website says that everything will be compatible, but I wanted confirmation from someone who has actually owned this or knows about this.
Can you offer any better docks/remotes ideas?

I was looking at the review CNET had for that Kensington dock.
    http://reviews.cnet.com/mp3-player-accessories/kensington-entertainment-dock-500 /4505-6519_7-31631868.html?tag=uolst
I had a question about part of the review though, I am not sure I am understanding it correctly.
"We were impressed by the remote's ability to take control of our iPod; most of the third-party iPod-dock remotes we've seen only pause the music or video, skip tracks, and adjust the volume, not browse the menus. That said, the Entertainment Dock still isn't perfect. When you navigate the menus, your TV screen will be blank, so you must rely on the iPod's screen for your visual cues. Our other gripe is that the remote seems cheaply designed: The buttons on our review model looked misaligned (if usable), while the battery cover was annoyingly difficult to pry open. We got about 30 feet of range from the remote, which is more than adequate for most living rooms."
So this means that even though the remote can navigate the menus on the iPod, you wont be able to see what you are doing unless you go to the screen of your iPod?

  • ITunes won't open when iPod is docked

Independently, both my iTunes and my iPod work fine. I always leave my iPod docked so it will stay charged, but when I click to open iTunes, the icon in the dock just bounces ; it never opens. If I pull the iPod out of the dock (even though it says Do Not Disconnect), iTunes opens fine. Then, I stick the iPod back in the dock, iTunes sees it, and immediately goes into iPod update. So, not a terrible problem, but how come I can no longer open iTunes while it's docked? I am afraid that one of these days, pulling the iPod out of the dock without unmounting it is gonna crash it.
    Any thoughts??
    Ben

    I have the same issue!!!
I have iTunes 6 and the latest software on my 3G iPod. I thought it was the iPod, so I completely formatted it in Disk Utility then restored it with a fresh copy of the iPod software. Once that was done, I auto-syned back into iTunes.
The same thing still happens. If the iPod is docked for only a minute or two I can update it in iTunes but after that, iTunes looks like it's updating but the thing never mounts. This is also the case when opening iTunes. I pull out the iPod and redocking gets it to work.
There is something going on with the newer versions of iTunes and the 3G iPods.

  • Itunes 7.0.2 won't auto open when an ipod is docked

    Hi
I upgraded itunes to 7.0.2 and had no major or minor issues. Then i upgraded (as instructed) my 5th Gen Ipod to 1.2.1 and now iTunes doesn't open when the iPod is docked (in either a belkin cradle or an Apple cradle)- even though the relevant checkbox is clicked. I have unchecked the tick box, and I have also reset the ipod and started fresh, but no change.
Its more annoying than anything especially when the feature is there but refuses to work.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Michael

A successful workaround: Unsubscribe from the podcasts in question then resubscribe. It's a pain but I could then copy the podcasts as normal.

  • Nano iPod photo dock and S video out?

Has anyone with an iPod photo dock slipped their nano into it to see if the photos will display on a TV (attcheed via S-video?)
Since Apple didn't offer a video cable out for nano, I suspect it doesn't output slideshows, but it would be interesting to find out if the video signal gets sent to the dock connector. Easy way to test is to try to send the slide show out to a TV via ths S-video output of the dock.
    Any experience out there?

    Hi Dave,
No, I did not get a response, but Apple did announce the "Apple iPod Universal Dock" with the release of the new iMac on October 12th (the "one more thing" press conference).
The new dock replaces the old photo dock and supports ALL iPods with dock connector (including the nano and the recently introduced iPod with Video). The new dock retails for the same price as the old photo dock but is more feature rich.
The new photo dock supports slideshows out via S-video, as well as video for the video iPods. It also includes a sensor that works with the same IR remote that ships with the iMac. This remote does NOT come with the dock, but is available as an accessory for the dock for $29. If you are buying the new iMac, there is no need to purchase another remote (unless you tend to misplace remotes
Below is a description of the new dock from Apple's web site. The product doesn't ship for 3 to 4 weeks (as of Oct 23)
Here are some of the things you can do with the Universal Dock:
Connect the Dock to your computer with the cable that came with your iPod, then place your iPod in the Dock to sync and charge the battery. No more reaching behind the computer to plug it in.
Connect the Dock to an electrical outlet using an iPod Power Adapter, then place your iPod in the Dock to charge the battery.
Connect the Dock to a stereo or speakers using an iPod AV Cable or a stereo audio cable to play music from iPod.
Control playback from a distance using the Apple Remote.
Display photos on a TV or other video device using an iPod AV Cable or S-video cable if you have an iPod with a color display.
Display videos on a TV or other video device using an iPod AV Cable or S-video cable if you have an iPod with video capability.
    Hope this helps!

  • Does ipod nano work with ipod photo dock, s-video out?

Does the ipod nano work with the ipod photo dock, with an s-video out? Will apple make one for the nano specifically?

The iPod nano cannot show photos on an external device, I suspect Apple have not built this feature into the hardware. The options for showing to a TV are not in the photo menus either.

  • Apple iPod Universal Dock And Remote

So If I have the Apple iPod Universal Dock and the Apple Remote And a iPod nano do I have front row?

So in case anyone at Apple is paying attention:
    1) Offer a package of the Apple Remote, a USB receiver for it, and Front Row together as a bundle for existing Mac users. It is a perfect fit for the Mac mini sitting in my stereo cabinet connected to my TV.
    2) Assuming that Photobooth only works with an iSight camera, then why not offer it as a free download for all customers who already have iSights? Presumably it wouldn't do anyone without an iSight any good - right? It should then be packaged with all iSights as a standard part of the package.
If you can't do (1), then at least issue an update to Tiger (10.4.3 for example) that includes Front Row built in with the ability to drive it from a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse? Then offer the Apple Remote with a USB receiver later...
It's so obvious I can't believe it wasn't done today...

  • Volume issue with new 30G IPOD and Dock while playing through a stereo.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, I recently purchased a 30G Video IPOD and Dock. While playing through my Stereo I notice that 1) I have to turn up the volume on the IPOD to more than 50% and volume on the receiver to over 50% also and 2) the varience in volume of some of the songs varies consideably. I played by IPOD at a friends home through his Dock and stereo and he controlled through the volume control only on his stereo (same Onkyo as mine), it overode the IPOD volume control. His Dock is about a year old, seems strange that when I use my Dock on his stereo it requires the volume use on BOTH the IPOD and the Stereo. So it would appear that his older Dock is more convenient to use than my new Dock? The fluctations in volume of the odd song is still evident on his stereo as it is on mine.Any comments anyone? Thanks in advance. Larry

Make sure Soundcheck on the iPod is enabled.
I recall a few other people have mentioned the volume control on the iPod affected the volume out the back of the Universal dock.
I have the older dock and it is not affected by the Volume control of the iPod.

  • S-Video + iPod Universal Dock supposed to work, doesn't

According to this Knowledgebase article, I'm supposed to be able to get video out of my iPod Classic using an iPod Universal Dock and an S-Video cable. (Scroll to the end of the article.) Doesn't work. When I try to play video, the iPod just puts up the "connect a video accessory" nag screen.
The KB article is quite specific about this configuration. Is the article incorrect, or is there some way to make this work that I'm missing?

    I'm having the same problem.

  • Does the ipod universal dock need power?

I have an ipod universal dock which I'm trying to connect to a video projector using s-video. Do I need to supply power to the universal dock in order to view videos from my 30GB ipod? onto my projection screen.

    Hi,
I do not have the universal dock, so I am not 100% sure, if from what I read from the following link
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300251#tv
It seems that you do not need the power supply to the universal dock, however, if you want to use the remote control of the dock, then you need to connect it either via a computer or iPod ac charger

  • TS2634 Problem IPod Touch docking station.

I have an IPod Touch in a docking station which drives a player piano,  I have an Apple A1256 docking station with a remote control.  The IPod suddenly stopped working in the docking station.  The IPod screen appears to show the IPod playing, but no signal is leaving the docking station.  When I plug the piano directly into my IPod, the piano plays.  Has anyone encountered the problem of losing output from a docking station, and if so, how did you fix it?

    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod and dock for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Bring both iPod and dock

  • HT1345 Is it possible to play a Playlist one has created on an iPod Classic while the iPod is docked?

Is it possible to select and play a Playlist one has created on an iPod Classic through the system on which the iPod is docked?

No, but if you are in the habit of listening to your iPod in Shuffle mode, then set the language files to Skip when shuffling.
To set Skip when shuffling, highlight the track in your iTunes Library and click on File/Get Info/Options>Skip when shuffling and then Sync the iPod to the Library.
Note that if you select a single track, the Skip when shuffling is a tick-box. But if you select multiple items, the Skip when shuffling option becomes a drop-down menu where you choose either Yes or No. Even if that option says Yes, change it to No and back to Yes. This ensuures that all tracks you have highlighted are set to Yes.
Another option is to create a separate Playlist that includes everything except the language files. This will require you to manually add any new songs each and every time you buy new songs.
    Alternatively;
you could even create a Smart Playlist to automatically add all the new music but to exclude the language files. To do that, set the Genre of the language files to "Language" (or similar) and then:
Make sure you are looking at your entire Music Library, not just one part of it or a Playlist.
    Click on File/New Smart Playlist
In the line that appears, change "Artist" to Media Kind (from the drop-down menu)
The next two boxes should now show is and Music. If not, change them so that they do.
Click on the + box at the end of that line (this will add a new line)
Change "Artist" to Genre (from the drop-down menu)
Change "Contains" to is not (from the drop-down menu)
In the last (empty) box, type in Language or whatever genre you have given to the language files. Make sure it is typed in exactly as it is in the files.
    Click OK
Rename the Smart Playlist as you want.
    Sync the iPod with iTunes.
Note that this Smart Playlist will automatically add any new music to it. You do not need to add new songs yourself!
