5g iPod off-center click wheel

Hi all.
Just got my 5g ipod. The click wheel has a small gap on the left side. It does not seem to affect its usability. I was curious to know if the same happened to others and did the apple store exchanged it for you?
Thanks

Hi,
I just got my new I pod the other day, 5G, White, 30g hard drive, the first thing I noticed was the gap. I am very ******** when it comes to that stuff. I drive my wife crazy every time I purchase electronic items. The gap is lower left about 6 and 7 o'clock position, I called the apple store and they gave me a case number, Also they sent me a empty box to send the I pod back and they said they will send me a brand new one. It took about 30 min for the entire process over the phone. This is the first apple product I ever bought. So if i get my replacement Ill be a happy customer. The tech support guy was friendly, but make sure you write your serial number down when you call, that was the difficult part reading it from the back. It is so small, and 5's looked like S's etc.. Hope this post helps with your question.

  • IPod Blue Case - anyone having problem with dye rubbing off on click wheel?

I purchased a new iPod 30gb a month ago and for some reason the blue due from the case supplied with the ipod has rubbed off in splotches on the click wheel of my ipod. I can't seem to remove it with anything.
Apple says this is a cosmetic thing they don't cover - I realize that but its a drag after only having it for such a short time.
Anyone else have this problem - suggestions or how to clean it off the click wheel?
    Thanks,

Unfortunately I had the same problem.my advice for all new users wash the cover carefully before using it!!!

  • I replaced the hard drive to a 30gig on my Ipod 4th gen. click wheel but it is still not recognized on my computer or in itunes......I get an error message with a folder and "!"....what can I do to fix??

Have you recharge the battery for at least 2 hours, or just leave it connected for 4 hours?
(When you replaced the Hardisk, you should also replace the battery.)
Some other iPod SSD sites, says that you may have to format the CF in FAT32, as Mac dont read NTFS drive so if Windows is the 1st PC that your CF is connected, it may be formatted to NTFS.
You can try erasing the CF using Disk Utilty, so that Mac can recognise it. (but not Windows)
    Have a nice day!

  • Why won't iPod 4th Generation Click Wheel 40gb (non-photo)  charge?

I have an old but much-loved iPod 4th Generation Click Wheel 40gb (non-photo model) that I keep on a charging dock. Yesterday the screen went blank and it refuses to charge, so I assume the battery is dead.
Can anyone tell me if that's the reason?  If so, exactly what replacement battery I should get?  I've found replacement batteries listed for the iPod 4th Gen 40 GB photo and the 4th Gen 20 GB, but don't know if they'll fit.  Thanks so much for any information out there!

    hmm - curiouser and curiouser
I've now managed to get it to manually update (after iTunes took 100% of system resources and I had to force quit it...) but that still doesn't really help me with the auto-sync feature which still won't work

  • My iPod photo's click wheel doesn't work.

My iPod photo's click wheel doesn't work? I can click it but cannot scroll with it...
    Any suggestions?

That is a hardware issue.  Take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.  If you want to DIY - iPod Repair Tutorials

  • I have an older Ipod with the clicker wheel. w

I have an older ipod with the clicker wheel.  Once I have imported a CD to iTunes, how do I get it to transfer to the iPod by Artist or Album instead of only each individual song?  When I import to my ipod and click on Artist or Album, it still shows the entire list of songs.  Thanks

A 15GB iPod would have to be a 3rd gen iPod.  It has a touch (not click) wheel with four touch buttons in a row that glow orange during use, correct?  That model needs to be connected using FireWire, because it cannot charge over USB.
If your new Mac has a Thunderbolt port, you can get an adapter for FireWire
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapte r
plus an adapter for FireWire 800 to FireWire 400
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/FIR1369AD/
Another way, if you have the square white FireWire power adapter that came with your iPod, is to get a special docking cable that Apple used to sell a long time ago.  It has both USB and FireWire connectors.  Here's a listing for a third-party version on eBay
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Vanco-iPod-Dock-Connector-to-1-USB-1-FireWire-Cable-/2 71074766489?pt=US_MP3_Player_Chargers_Cradles&hash=item3f1d50ae99
(Search on "FireWire USB iPod docking cable" to see other listings.)
What you do with this thing is plug the USB connector to your Mac's USB port, the FireWire connector to the FireWire power adapter, and the dock connector to the iPod.  iPod can then sync over USB while getting power over FireWire.
I would go with that special cable, to avoid using a series of adapters (which adds complexity and unreliability) and tying up the valuable Thunderbolt port for just your iPod.

  • USB 2.0- Nano recognised as a iPod 20/40GB Click wheel model

Whenever I connect my iPod Nano into my ALi M5273 USB 2.0 PCI card, iTunes recognises my Nano as an old iPod (iPod 20/40GB Click Wheel model, with the black/white screen). The ipod icon under 'Sources' that appears on the left of iTunes appears as this model instead of a black ipod nano icon.
Sometimes the usb 2.0 card fails to connect altogether. Can anyone help me fix this problem? Or should i just buy a new USB 2.0 card?
    Specs:
    Windows XP Professional SP2
ALi M5273 USB 2.0 PCI Card
    iPod Nano

Strange... i've tried both versions. Version 4.9 that came on the disc and version 5.0. But both versions of itunes still seem to have the same problem- with USB 2.0.
Is it strange for my USB 2.0 card to have 4 USB controllers?: 1x'Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller', and 4x'ALi PCI to USB Open Host Controller'? All in all, it's added 4 USB Root Hubs, one with 6 usb ports, and 3 all with 2 usb ports each. Is that correct? (My ALi USB 2.0 card only has 5 usb ports but my pc has added 12).
P.s: There is another USB host controller which is not accounted for, as this is used to control the USB 1.1 ports on my motherboard. The controllers and USB Hubs listed have all been added by my ALi USB 2.0 PCI Card.

  • IPod will not turn off using click wheel

My 30G iPod won't turn off unless I put it in the universal dock and use the remote. It will not turn off using the click wheel. I've tried resetting the iPod, and also changed the "Settings" back to the factory default, and that didn't make any difference. Is anyone else having this problem?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Does the iPod sucessfully reset?
    Try resetting the iPod...

After it resets, wait about a minute. Now try turning it off.
Also, try activating the sleep timer on the iPod. Does that turn it off? (Go to extras-->clock-->[select a clock]-->sleep)

  • Ipod Nano's Click Wheel Unresponsive.

After charging my Nano, I unplugged it and the click-wheel was not working. None of the buttons work either (including the center one). I tried to reset it, the center and menu buttons worked for this. After the reset, the wheel stopped working again.
    Any ideas?

Is the Hold button on or off?
Since resetting was a temporary fix, go to the Apple store. The staff there will let you know if you need a replacement or not as the iPod Nano is still under warranty.

  • My ipod nano's click wheel randomly moves!

Since I updated my ipod nano last night, after about a minute of it being turned on, the click wheel starts not to respond to my actions and randomly moves, this problem occurs on many menu's such as volume, selecting songs to listen to, games, and many more. I have tried resetting it, getting rid of the songs i added to it last night, recharging the battery, but with no luck. Please help; as I’m worried it could be a virus!

  • My ipod nano's clicker wheel's play button is not workin

Please Help. I have no idea what happened to it. There has not been any damage.

I had the same issue with my iPod nano 4th generation. Tried all of the suggested fixes but nothing worked. After months of trying read and figure out what was wrong I stumbled across a possible fix.
This is partly a theory, but probably true in a lot of cases. I use my iPod nano a lot in a speaker dock. I  think over time using the speaker dock caused some kind of connection to become loose. I got the idea from someone else that when you connect the docking cable, as if you were going to sync your iPod and wiggle the cable at the connection back and forth until locating a place that allows the click wheel to work again. Start gently and push a little harder toward the front or toward the back. If this works then here is what I did to solve the problem.
Take a small flat head screw driver and gently pry the white cover away from the bottom of the iPod near the sync port and headphone jack. It is held in place by a type of rubber glue. I have a computer pry tool. I gently put insert the tool between the back case of the iPod and the where the sync cable attaches and pry it slightly enough to fit something in the space. I cut off a small piece of a paper clip (1/8'' or less). Needs to be small enough to fit and still apply enough pressure to allow the click wheel to work. After inserting I tested it to make sure it worked and sure enough it did. I carefully put a small amount of school stick glue on the white plate and put it back in place.
    Hope this works!

  • IPod 40 gb click wheel completely dead!

I bought an iPod (40gb click wheel) in September 2004 for the grand sum of £299 – so it isn’t even 2 years old! It has totally died. Firstly in June it refused to be identified by my Dell computer; then it corrupted a part of the software in my computer which identifies my DVD/CD drive. I had that fixed by Dell – thank goodness it didn’t do any further damage! As a result of not being recognised by my computer I was unable to add additional tunes to it. The iPod was still working but then started to make lots of noises. It then stopped working altogether and produced the folder with!. I phoned the support line in early July and was told that there are several articles on the web site which could help – I followed the recommendations and it still continued to try to re-boot itself. I was also told that getting it fixed would cost me £166 as the one year warranty had run out !!!! (Surely it should last longer than that – also I can buy something new which is more reliable for less than that!) The last stage was the final appearance of the apple logo, a black screen and now it is completely dead. It refuses to charge up with the battery and I’m absolutely livid. It doesn’t warrant being fixed. I hearby plan to return this lump of rubbish to Apple as I was on the verge of throwing it away but didn’t want to pollute the environment with whatever nasties lie within.

I've got the same problem mate. The clickwheel started to ge dead in places like around skip forward track area, (which was annoying to say the least.) But the other day it completely died, now it tries to start up showing the apple logo, then you can hear inside the hardrive spin up then a loud click then it tries this again about 5 times before showing the support website.
Ive probably had the ipod for about 2 years.
Annyoing since its a 40gb ipod and i've barely filled up 13gb. I might take it into see what the shop says but i sort of know its gonna be not worth repairing. Plus the video ipods are looking really good.

  • Ipod 1st generation click wheel not responding - won't reset - apple icon

My ipod won't reset or show up in itunes when connected.  Apple icon seems to be frozen on screen.  How can I reset it?  Help!

This is really the 1st gen iPod from 2001, with a non-touch non-click wheel that physically turns, and connects with a FireWire cable?
Make sure the Hold switch is not in the ON position?
The older iPods did a reset differently from more recent iPod that have a click wheel.  Be sure you are following the appropriate reset steps in this document, based on the actual iPod model.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
If it's a 1st gen iPod, it would be How to reset iPod, iPod (scroll wheel), iPod (touch wheel), and iPod (dock connector).  The buttons to press and hold are different from later iPods.

  • IPod Touch Sensitive Click Wheel does not turn - HELP!

Can this click wheel be fixed? Has anyone been successful? I'd love to know how and not throw $300 down the drain. Sigh. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Sure! Just do a web search for iPod repair and you will find plenty of places. Here is one that was at the top of a google search I just did...
    http://pdasmart.com/ipodpartscenter5g.htm
$65 for the click wheel part and you can repair it yourself. Or $75 for mail in repair service.
I have no experience or affilation with the above linked store, just found them first in a search.
