-5o error in Imovie 11

When I try to finalize a project in Imovie 11, I got the message -50 error (the project coul;dn't be finalized). It is a 1080i recording from a Sony HDR HCE1, total length is 55 minutes.

I looked up that particular error and found this:
-50
paramErr
Error in user parameter list
I don't know offhand whether there's an easy fix or troubleshooting step to eliminate this. I know that sometimes different sizes that are selected when you finalize will have an effect on this. Some people try unchecking the largest size in the Finalize dialog window. And that will allow them to finalize.
One question I have is if you want to just export out to finished video clip. You can also do that too and bypass finalize altogether. In iMovie Finalize is a bit of a misnomer in that it makes a bunch of copies of your project in different sizes and saves them to the 'Media Browser' inside of iLife. This allows you to work with the video clips in other iLife Apps like iDVD, iWeb, iTunes, etc. It's not very useful outside of sharing many different sizes with other apps. If what you really want is just to have a video clip of the final project go to the Share Menu > Export Movie... and save it to the Desktop. It will be a .m4v file which you can playback in iTunes or QuickTime. And you can even rename it to .mp4 and it will playback on Windows PCs using the VLC media player.

  • Error message: iMovie cannot save changes to the library!?!

iMovie crashed my computer and now I can't creat a new movie.
    Here's the full error message:
iMovie cannot save changes to the library.
The hard disk where your library is located may be full or unavailable or permissions may have changed. To avoid losing your work, quit iMovie.
What's up with this? I tried trashing the preferences, but got the same message. I have a 27-inch late 2013 iMac running Mavericks with 445.55 GB free space.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

You've already tried trashing iMovie preferences (By the way think in Mavericks you have to reboot as well after this for the new preferences to take effect) .  One other thing to try is creating a new user account, logging in and seeing if you can create a new project in iMovie (of course you won't see your exisitng projects).  If you can then iMovie itself is OK.  If not  then the only other thing I can think of is re-installing iMovie  (see http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/qt/How-To-Re-Download-Apps-From-The-Mac-Ap p-Store.htm)
Is everthing else working OK after your computer crash?  Maybe you should also run Verify disk in Disk Utility.
Maybe someone-else has some other suggestions (I have not heard of this problem before)?

  • How will I resolve -108 error on imovie whenever I try to import my project to dvd?

how will I resolve -108 error on imovie whenever I try to import my project to dvd?

    Hi,
There may not be enough free space on your Mac's startup disk to import the dvd project to.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

  • Importing error - from iMovie to iMovie

I have two iMovie projects. I want to import one of 5 clips from Project One into Project Two. But I get an error when I try to import Clip 01:
"The file Clip 01 is the wrong video standard and cannot be imported in this project."
I can import the other 4 clips from the same file just fine. AND, I can import Clip 01 into a new project. But for some reason, I can't import it into the ONE project I want. The worst part? My DV camera just broke and I can't re-import from the tape. Thanks in advance!

Yeah, it's imported right from my DV camera. It should be NTS. I imported it into a new file, thinking that I would then import Project Two in the new file. But when I tried importing Project Two, I got the same "not a standard video format" error that I got in the first place. Something's not jibing.

  • Error in iMovie about Disk Space after upgrade

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion. I created a movie in iMovie and when I tried to export it to YouTube, I got an error message about no disk space. I have over 700GB of space so I don't think that's the issue. I tried upgrading iMovie but it's asking for an old AppleID that no longer exists.
    So I have 2 problems:
How can I upgrade iMovie when it's asking for a non-existant Apple ID?
How can I fix the situation in the version of iMovie I'm currently running?
    PLEASE HELP!

It sounds like Time Machine is turned ON and the computer is making backups to the hard disk.  This space is freed automatically, if required by the OS.

  • How Do I fix a -2009 error on IMovie

    Hello,
I recieved an error message while trying to export a movie project from IMovie to my desktop. The error read: Unable to prepare project for publishing. The project could not be prepared for publishing because of an error occuring (-2009).
How can I resolve this issue so I can get this movie project exported successfully. Thank you for your help.

  • "No camera attached" error in iMovie HD 5.0.2 - Sony DV Camcorder DCR-HC38

    Happy Holidays Everyone!
So I first encountered this problem when I had Mac OS 10.5 installed on my laptop and I was using iMovie 6. There were no problems at first, my laptop recognized my new camcorder for weeks and I made a couple of short projects, but one day it wouldn't recognize my camcorder anymore! The problem happened after I updated my OS with the latest security update that came out earlier this month, December 2007.
I called apple support and they couldn't help me. They said they've been receiving a lot of calls about this very same problem! They said my camcorder was not on the "support list" which shouldn't matter because it worked at first, right?
I followed all the troubleshooting: reseting the pram, etc.
I went into system profiler, then firewire, and it gave a red error message saying: "unable to list devices"
Then I researched all of the suggestion here on these forums and other forums and nothing has helped.
So I thought I would do a clean install of 10.4, and run iMovie 5.0.2 but it's still the same, although now I don't get the red error message saying: "unable to list devices" in system profiler. It just says "Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec"
This is a real pain in the butt because the main reason I bought this machine was so I could edit video!! Any NEW suggestions anybody???

the firewire port on the camera was bad! it figures!

  • Weird error from iMovie 9.0.2 - Quartz Extreme required - what gives?

I got this weird error message from iMovie 9.0.2 today ...
    "Quartz Extreme required.
iMovie requires a graphics card that is compatible with Quartz Extreme. One or more of your graphics cards does not support Quartz Extreme.
    [Quit]"
What is going on here? I have an Intel i5 Quad Core iMac with 16GB of RAM and 1.5TB free on my drive. The graphics card in this iMac has 1GB of VRAM (ATI Radeon HD 5750) so I thought it could handle pretty much anything I throw at it.
I had a movie of my daughter's school play (about 1.5 hours) which I edited in iMovie today and then selected the Menu to finalize the Project.
SInce it was taking a few hours, I left the machine to run and do its thing.
When I got back, I found that iMovie had shut down and I had the above error message on my screen.
I bought this machine so that I could do some amateur video editing ... and this is my first attempt. Not happy with this result!
Any advice/suggestions/guidance on what is going on here?
    Thanks

    CH,
Not I do not have a colition to this, but it has not happened to me in a while.
Good Luck with this and hope someone chimes in to help you.

I fixed the problem.. but it was very, very strange. I had a very long section for credits and set the line spacing to 1.0.. for some reason this caused it. I removed it, and it worked fine. I put it back, and I couldn't preview or play the video.
I don't know why that could cause that big of a problem, but it did..

  • ERROR 50 "IMOVIE"

I have a problem with exporting video to imovie. just try to do EXPORT MOVIE, he says: The project is not ready for publication because it was an error. (-50) how i do?? help me!! it's very important, it's for my job!

I forgot to add, I can export any other videos except for the one mentioned above. Why is that? I tried exporting a 10 minute video and a 2 minute video and it worked. The one mentioned above, however gets the error "-50".
I did get it to export once after clearing the imovie cache, but it was incomplete in itunes.

  • Error -1712 iMovie

error -1712 pops up with "The application 'iMovie' can't be opened" when I try to open iMovie.
I just installed the newest version of iMovie (v10.0.4) from the App store on my
MacBook Pro processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memore 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    OSX 10.9.4
It's opened a few times, but all of a sudden (after, say 6 or 7 sessions) it just won't open.
As an aside, iMovie 8.0.6 continues to run like a champ.
I've tried to find and delete the iMovie.plist files but they don't show up anywhere.
As you can imagine, I'm not keen on trashing the venerable iMovie 8.0.6 since it actually works.  Still
I need to get the new audio editing features in 10.0.4 (which worked great until yesterday).
    Any ideas?

The answer was from my list of notes - and allthoug it is general it seems that first time it was related to iDVD. Still it can be so many things.
    A. If You (need to) force quit Your Mac - each time small errors occurs on Your hard disk - building up to a major disaster.
To awoid this as good as I can - I do
    - Run Repair Permissions - Disk Util tool
    - Run Repair Hard Disk - Disk Util tool - BUT - to be able to run this You need to start up Your Mac from DVD or other external hard disk - else it will not run
    B. To get this Error - normal trouble shooting is what I do
    - First as in § A
    - I use to first test - by creating a new User Account and here try iMovie to see if it runns OK - if so then to 95% the problem is in iMovie pref or cache files
    - Then - Trash iMovie pref and cache files (while iMovie is NOT RUNNING)
    - If problem persists after this - the suspicion (my) falls upon what iMove has to work with
    a. When loading it heavely depend on iPhoto Library - and if this got corrupted - iMovie fails too - Repair iPhoto Library
(THIS TAKES SEVERAL HOURS - now it takes > 24 hours for me to do this (64.000 pictures)
    Close all programs
Start iPhoto - BUT KEEP alt and cmd keys down during full up-start
Now You get a menu - select all
Let Your Mac be for this process - NO Nothing - No Internet - just let it get tidy.
    b. If iMovie starts OK - then I would investigate Event's and Projects - if there is corrupted material here - and trash it
iMovie (and iDVD) has a very limited amout of VIdeo-Codecs it can use.
QuickTime - can open so many more - so that it can play here are no guarantee for it to be usable in iMovie.
And if that doesn't help - I would toss in the towel - and see if Apple Store and their Genious can sort it out.
    Good Luck
Just ad in - my general troubleshooting memory list as it is written:
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
Creating a new User-Account and log into this
This forces iMovie to create all pref. and cache files new and error free
Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
a Codec is used that doesn't work (even though iMovie and/or iDVD tries to / they fail in the end)
version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
USB-flash-memories - usually do not work
Net-work connected hard disks - usually do not work (most often not fast enough and WRONGLY FORMATTES as DOS etc)
iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie. When iMovie starts-up it first look trough this iPhoto library and if faulty it all Halt’s.
    This You do by
    First -  close iPhoto
    Secondly - on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
Thirdly - now select all five options presented
THEN - WAIT a long long time (>20 hours are not strange)
free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
Screen must be set to million-colors
    Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)
    buenrodri wrote
I solved the problem by removing the file: 3ivxVideoCodec.component. after that, up-dated iMovie runs ok.
Last resort: Trash all of iMovie and re-install it
