5th Gen IPOD Battery Issues

The cable for my replacement battery does not stay put in power receptacle on the circuit board.  How do I make it stay "plugged in" and not just fall out?

Why does it not stay put?  Are you sure you locked the little clip in that holds the ribbon cable in place or checked to make sure it isn't broken?

  • 5th gen iPod video issues

Ok. I'm on my second iPod here. Just got this one as a gift and am having trouble loading vidoe and photos to it. I'm on a Titanium PowerBook running the latest version of OS X. My boyfriend is on a pc and also has a 5th gen iPod. I connect either iPod to his pc, and all the tabs that should be there come up in the summary in his iTunes. It says my iPod is up to date. I connect to my computer and only the Summary, Music, Podcasts and Contacts tabs show up. I'm on the latest version of iTunes as well. It does say, however, that my iPod is Windows formatted. I take my iPod to work and connect to my G5, and everything is fine there too. So what do I have to do to set up my laptop at home to be able to upload videos and photos to this iPod???? I'm not finding anything in the discussions that's hitting my particular problem....
    Frustrated and confused-

update: i did the archive and reinstall with my os and then ran software update. my os is clean and current, and the ipod is working perfectly.

  • 5th Generation iPod Battery Issues

    Hello all.
I'm hoping someone can help me with an issue I recently started having. Both my wife and I have 5th generation iPods that we bought 13 months ago. We have been using them on my computer on a regular basis since then.
About 3 weeks ago I started receiving the "low battery warning." I charged it successfully from my PC and from a car adaptor and after rebooting the iPod the battery would be close to empty. My wife's iPod had similar issues within a week of my issue.
I took my iPod into my local Apple store and they charged me ~$60 for a battery replacement and replaced my wife's since it was within warranty. I sync'ed my new iPod at home on the computer and had the same problems within 2 days. I then tried my wife's iPod and her's was dead before she even got to use it.
I just replaced both iPods at Apple yesterday and I'm afraid to plug them into my computer now, but an iPod isn't much fun unless it has music! Any ideas? What can I check? (Keep in mind that we've been using this same computer for quite sometime now.)
    Thanks,
    Michael

    Hi,
It might be that there is a driver problem on your PC so the iPod is not drawing enough current to charge fully. Some devices like the blackberry and other mp3 players actually say they are charging when in fact they are discharging! Perhaps you could try another PC with iTunes installed and see if you have the same problem - would at the very least rule out your PC.
    I found this on Wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB
The USB specification provides a 5 V (volts) supply on a single wire from which connected USB devices may draw power. The specification provides for no more than 5.25 V and no less than 4.75 V (5 V±5%) between the positive and negative bus power lines.[11] Initially, a device is only allowed to draw 100 mA. It may request more current from the upstream device in units of 2 mA up to a maximum of 500 mA.
I've got a blackberry and the charger is rated 5v 500mA. It has a usb connector for the power lead so I just unplug the standard usb cable for my bberry and plug in the iPod cable. This is exactly the same as the £19 AC chargers you can buy in the shops
    Hope this helps.

  • 5th Gen Ipod Sync Issue

My ipod shows up in Finder but not in Itunes. It does the equivalent on PC (My computer not itunes). I have reset it without any luck. Does anyone have any ideas?

The second one was very helpful, I had somehow missed it, thank you so much.
I did run into one issue when I was trying to complete the steps listed as I have absolutely no idea what Step 3 means. Can anyone walk me through it? It says:
    Step 3
    Delete the iPod.plist file
Remove the following file in the your home directory and launch the iPod updater again
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ipod.plist

  • 5th Gen Ipod Disconnect Issue

Last night I was having trouble disconnecting my new ipod from itunes, even after hitting the disconnect button in itunes I was still getting the "do not disconnect" screen on the ipod. So I rebooted my computer. During the reboot, the "do not disconnect" screen went away (ipod still connected to computer) and the regular main menu came up on the ipod so I went ahead and disconnected it from my computer. About 30 seconds later the "do not disconnect" screen came up on the ipod (ipod not connected) so I connected the ipod to my computer, but itunes wouldn't recognize it, so I reset the ipod (holding menu plus middle button on ipod) THEN disconnected it from my computer. Since then it has been working totally fine although it takes a full 2 minutes to disconnect it from itunes which "seems" longer than before but maybe not.
This morning I called Apple and described the problem. They told me I didn't do anything wrong and that nothing should be wrong with the ipod.
As of now everything seems to be working fine with the ipod and I haven't noticed any problems. Does anyone here think I could have physically damaged the ipod's hard drive in the above scenario?
    Dell Desktop   Windows XP

One other thing - it takes just about a full two minutes, after disconnecting/ejecting the ipod in itunes, for the "do not disconnect" screen to go away. Is this the average time for most of you? BTW - my ipod is the brand new 5g 80gb model and it's about 53gb full.

  • Known issue: 5th gen ipods do not work reliably with 10.6.1 (snow leopard)

I just got off the phone with Apple support - there is a known issue preventing 5th gen ipods from connecting to Snow Leopard computers.
I can confirm that it's a 10.6 issue - everything worked fine on 10.5.8 with iTunes 9, but right after the upgrade, no connect (not even in Disk Utility). Apple's working on a fix, but no ETA yet. My 1st gen touch works just fine.
If you attempt to connect, it'll hang Disk Utility and may require a hard-boot to reset everything.
So we just need to be patient.

yeeahhhhh... I just plugged my ipod classic 5th gen, 30g into my brand new macbook pro... and it doesn't show anything up. Didn't even aweknowledge the ipod as a device. and worst of all... it said it was connected so i couldn't take it out but i had to since it wasn't doing anything so i unplugged it and now... it froze...
If i reset my ipod or wait till the batteries run out and then connect it to my pc. will it work still?

  • Why doesnt the ipod 5th gen have battery percentage?

Can someone tell me why the Ipod touch 5th generation doesnt have the battery percentage icon?
I've always wondered why the 5th gen Ipod touch doesnt have battery percentage. They should have it, its long overdue.

    See:
[How To] Enable the Battery Percentage with iBackupBot | iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch forums | iFans
However, % battery is not accurate on the iPod and some users have reported increased battery drain.

  • App gets stuck on start-up screen at launch iPod Touch 5th Gen - full disk issue

Can't do anything. IPod touch 5th generation.
    thoughts?
This is all that I can see...
A couple more notes... I have the latest version of iOS and 2.7GB of free space.
I have rebooted to release memory and it still gets stuck on the intro screen.
Are there any users out there who have this working on a 5th Gen iPod Touch?

    Hi,
there are some users that have run into the same issue, we have not been able to reproduce this issue which means that we need your help.
If you could give us the crash logs that would help a lot, they are available at the following locations on your desktop once you've connected the device to it:
    OSX: /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/DeviceName/PSTouchphone....log
    Windows: C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\DeviceName\PSTouchphone....log
    The known workarounds are:
Uninstall and reinstall from iTunes with USB (normally works)
If that doesn't work the only known workaround is to upgrade your iOS version.
Did PS Touch always behave like this on your iPod? I.e. - when did you first install and start PS Touch?
If not can you recall how you installed PS Touch the first time?
Over iTunes or AppStore? And do you recall how you updated it?
    thanks,
    Ignacio

  • How is the 5th Gen iPod better then....

How is the 5th Gen iPod better then the 4th Gen iPod, other then the obvious video ability? Is it really that much better while playing songs? Is it built well? How do you like it?

I do not own a 4G iPod but I can ad that I don't think there is anything better about the audio quality in the 5G
iPod as compared to the 1G iPod. What you get are new features and of course capacity and cosmetic appearance. I am an owner of a 1G iPod that is still going strong, no issues with it ever! I recently purchased the 5G and already have questions regarding shut down and pausing and battery life!
    Peace

  • 5th Gen iPod, seen by Windoze, not by iTunes

I've been too busy lately to hang out keep up with the iTunes 7 issues, but I still have to stop the iPod service, attach my iPod, start iTunes/start the service every time I want to sync. Is there any hope that this is a temporary condition or is this just how it's gonna be from now on? iTunes 7, 5th Gen iPod w/1.2 software, XP Pro SP2.
    TIA for your comments/help.

Wow, 10 days and not a single reply. Guess I'm not the only one too dumb to figure out what's wrong with iTunes.

  • 5th gen iPod Touch crashes spontaneously

    Hi there
My 5th Gen iPod Touch crashes at random times, usually when on wifi.  When it does this, it resets my clock by ten or twenty or thirty minutes and I have to fix the time because it does not automatically restore via the Internet.  I tried restoring my iPod, both at home and at the Apple Store, but when the person helping me ran a diagnostic on it I was told nothing came up.  My diagnostic data was still on the iPod and I had three kernel panic reports and about eight reset counter reports, so I'm not sure why I was told that.  I've seen a similar thread on here saying it was probably the battery, so I thought that was the problem, but I've just been told otherwise.  I don't know what to do because last night I plugged in my iPod and left the room, then came back to find the screen cracked (I'm guessing having to do with the battery).  No one else was in the room and I didn't drop it.  Because I don't know how to reproduce the problem, I'm having a hard time proving it exists regardless of diagnostic data, and now it looks like I dropped it and that damaged the device, when that is honestly not the case.  Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you.

    Hello
No, I did not restore from backup.  I restored to factory settings at the Apple Store and when I got home and tried to set up my email, my iPod restarted again.  The time reset to ten minutes previous.
I'm mentioning the crash reports because they all correspond to the times my iPod restarted.  It has crashed four times in the last hour and all I've done is download two apps (Podcasts and Skype) and added my email accounts.
    Thanks very much.

  • 5th gen Ipod not recognized and not charging on any computer.

    Hello
I have a 5th gen Ipod with an odd issue. I have an Ihome radio with Ipod dock in which my Ipod charges and plays everthing just fine. I usually just keep it there to charge and only hook up to my computer if I want to buy something or put other music on it. I tried syncing the other day and nothing happened, would not sync, charge, my computer would not even recognize it. I have tried 2 differnt cables, reset, have tried it with itunes started and not running on my vista computer and have also tried just to charge on a computer with XP that doesnt have Itunes installed. My daughter has in Ipod Touch that works just fine with both my cables and computers.
Any ideas of whats wrong with my 5th gen?
    Thanks

Try restarting your computer with your ipod plugged in. You might also try using a different USB port. If all else fails downgrade to itunes 6 here http://www.apple.com/support/

I have a 2009 A6 with a 5th Gen. iPod pluggedinto the MMI.  I mostly  listen to audio books, not a lot ofmusic.  The books are 4-6 hours long, vs 4-6minutes with a song.  Often, but not always, when I start my A6, the MMI starts on the first song on my iPod, thereforeI don't know where I stopped in my 4-6 hour book.  How can I get the interface to stay stopped where I left off?  I have gone into iTunes and placed my current book as the first "song" on my iPod for ease of finding it, but often the MMI starts it over at the beginning.  Thank you if anyone has any experience with this.  My dealer in San Rafael, CA says they've never heard of this issue.

I think my iPod, which is an iPod touch 3rd generation , which is a lot different from a nano, which really makes it almost impossible for me to help you, which is why I suggested that you post your question in the iPod nano community.  Your first post says that your product is an iPod nano. I think the people who answer those questions would be most likely to help you. If yours isn't a nano then you can pick the right community from here. This community is really to answer questions about this forum, or issues that don't fit anywhere else.

  • ITunes 7.3.2 (OSX) and 5th Gen iPod not synching

I have had my 5th gen iPod (30GB) for about 2 years now and originally had used it with Windows, then I switched over to a Mac in Feb and have been pretty happy. Normally i synch my iPod daily to get my playlists updated (so I don't listen to the same thing all the time) and so I can get new Podcasts that were downloaded. Before I left for work this morning, I was able to synch my iPod with no problem, when I was about to synch it before I went to bed, it will not synch. When I try to put in the iPod, iTunes then crashes. I try to put in the iPod and let iTunes open automatically, it loads then crashes again. I have rebooted both the Mac and did a reset on my iPod, but can't even perform a restore since before iTunes would pop up the iPod section, it crashes first. it IS mac formatted. i don't know what is going on and what chnged from this morning to this evening and why suddenly it doesn't work.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

I deleted both iTunes and Quicktime7, emptied the trash, restarted, then reinstalled QT then iTunes. Still getting the same issue. Still "crashing" when the iPod is connected.
This is some of the information from the bug report that I thought might be helpful to figure out what went wrong (didn't want to include ALL the crash report, so I just included the info before the "thread crashed" details and the system info at the bottom):

  • 5th Gen iPod Not Being Recognized by iTunes

    5th Gen iPod w/Updater 1.3. iTunes Ver. 7.6.2.9
Two weeks ago purchased music with no problems; sync'ed library w/iPod w/no problems.
Purchased music a few days ago- no problems. Started iTunes today to sync iPod and got msg saying registry values missing for certain drivers for burning discs, etc. Cause could be from other programs that burn discs etc.(???)
Plugged in iPod, got the tone beep and then a message that iTunes doesn't recognize the iPod attached. Disconnect and reattach. Did this several times - still doesn't work. I can play tunes from my iTunes library and my iPod OK - just can't sync them up. Anyone got a solution??
    Thanks, Unicorn39

Well, after digging into the 1000's of msgs regarding problems similar to mine I found something I thought might help at (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538). I teied it and found that my drivers were OK so that wasn't the problem. While trying things I suddenly got the iPod recognized and it started sync'ing. I think the solution to my issue was to connect the iPod first; wait for it to be recognized by the pc (the tone beep) then go thru the acceptance of iTunes agreement, etc., iTunes then opened and the sync process began. I tried it with iTunes open and it won't work. It sounds like a hokey way to do it but at least I have my library and iPod in sync.
My next problem to work on is there seems to be registry problem with iTunes drivers for importing and burning CD's. Got to figure that out and fix.
Since I do have CopyTrans I may just re-install a back-level of iTunes and copy my iPod into the new iTunes library.
