You may want to first try removing and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes by following the steps in this article:

My 120GB IPod classic is not recognized by my Windows 7 PC. When I plug the ipod into my computer I receive a message saying that the USD device is not recognized. The Device Manager lists it as an Unknown Device. I've tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it, but it had no affect. The odd thing is that our other iPod (160 GB Classic) is recognized on the same computer using the same USB cable. When I plug the ipod in question into another PC, the PC seems to recognize the iPod and lists it in Windows Explorer (iTunes is not installed on this machine). Any help would be greatly appreciated.Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?

I have tried a newer version of the iPod software is available (version 2.0.1). To update my iPod but it is showing error iPod : Cannot restore or update in iTunes with error 1415, 1417, 1418,1428,1429, 1430, 1436, or 1439.
How I can obtain suitable software for iPod classic 120GB Serial Number:8K913VF:2C7I have had this problem with Windows 7 and iTunes updates for some time. Each time it takes hours to solve but with the over the air upgrade to IOS6 on my iPhone and iPad, I was determined to solve and remember what I did, So here it is:

IPod Classic is stuck on a restarting loop, how do I fix it without erasing any of the data?
My iPod Classic(160G) is stuck in a restarting loop and I don't know how to fix it.
It will turn on so I can see the Apple logo, then it will shut off and do it all over again untill the battery is drained.
It charges without problems; my laptop won't recognize that there is an iPod plugged in so iTunes doesn't work.
I would love to be able to fix the problem without erasing any data because I have lots of songs that I no longer have on any computer anymore.
I would appreciate some help, as long as it won't erase any of the data, thanks.I let my 8 year old listen to the IPod that my eldest son gave to me. My 8 year old also likes to take pictures with the IPod. Anyways, she unknowingly put a password on it and tried too many times to unlock it, now it's disabled. I am having iPOD classic 80GB . I Have the 10.5Latest Version of iTunes installed. When I go for Sync.It tells me to restore to factory settings as it is unable to read the contents. On restoring it tells : unable to restore as this has files that are in use by another application. I have no idea what to do now. Pl advise. Thanks
Try disabling any and all A/V or security software you are running on your system and see if that helps.

TS1382 5th Gen 80GB Classic is charged, but menu is stuck!
5th Gen. Class 80GB Ipod.
My 5th Gen 80GB Classic ipod has not worked quite right in a while. I plugged into my JBL Soundstage, fully charged it, I toggle the top power/hold back and forth several times, all I see is the full menu, (music,photos,playlists,etc) but I can not scroll down using the wheel, or any other method!
I tried the toggle with HOLD thing, then pressing Center/Menu,and still nothing!
Since it shows the battery charge is full, then I'm thinking it's not the battery, but maybe the hard drive. I boght this new back in 2007, and once I took it to the geniuses at Apple store, ,they told me the HD was fried, like a computer crash, and for me to hand it over to them,. and for $185.00. they would give me a refurbish one. I was fuming! After payoing almost $500.00 doallars for this and this happens? I went home and called apple and talked to about five people until this nice supervisor actually helps me get this running again. Some genius! And now after four years since this happened. now this. I should just get a itouch with more bells and whistles, because this ipod might have numbered days. How long should a 80GB Classic last?Just wanted to give you guys an update: my iPod now works again fully, without having reformatted it, as Apple suggested.
I was reading some other posts around here, and decided to try something before going for the ultimate/decimating solution: redownloaded iTunes and reinstalled it. Install of checking for updates, I just went to Apple's site, and downloaded the whole thing. Plugged in my iPod, and now it all works! All the songs that wouldn't play before are now working just fine, as before.
Seems to me there's something funky on iTunes 7.5 for Windows or the upgrade process, which wasn't there in previous versions.

5th gen 60gb classic not recognized by computer or itunes
I bought used on ebay (used), downloaded 13gb of music. Took to vehicle and couldnt get it to connect to pioneer radio (I have another 5th gen just like it and it works just fine with radio). So, I went to hook it back up to my comp. and it is no longer recognized by it, no matter what I do. Hooked it up to my other vehicle which had an Alpine deck, it recognized it and played just fine BUT when I disconnected it, it didnt recognize it and stayed with the screen "ok to disconnect" so I have to reboot the ipod to get back to the normal ipod screen. Hope someone can help!

Okay, I've not sure if you've tried a couple of things yet:
Have you tried putting your iPod into disk mode, then connecting it to your computer? Follow the instructions in this article to force your iPod into disk mode:

Also, a full reinstall of iTunes might be worth a try here.
Disconnect your iPod from your computer.
Go to "Add or Remove programs" in Control Panel. Find "iTunes" and "QuickTime" on this list, and remove them both.
Then, download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, to clear out the remaining iTunes and QuickTime installation files off your computer (see this MS document for information on it):

Also, use this article to manually remove the left over files from installation:

After you've done that, restart your computer.
Then, go to this page to install the iTunes + QuickTime installation pack onto your computer again:
Download iTunes - 7.1.1.5
Now, restart your computer once more.
After the computer has fully loaded up, open iTunes, and connect your iPod to your computer.
Does the iPod get recognized by your computer/iTunes, or not?

thanks for your help.Try resetting the device. The hard drive may not be full, but the device RAM might be. If resetting doesn't work then perhaps you have many large playlists and these are reducing the amount of free RAM for games.

My ipod classic is stuck. I tried to play a game and my ipod now reads "this game cannot be launched" also "this may be the result of a full ipod. Which I still have 95.7 mbs available.

I have an iPod 5th gen. My audiobook playlists disappeared. They show as "on this device" in iTunes, but I cannot locate them on the device. Even the audiobook tab has disappeared. This happed after the most recent iTunes update.
- Delete all AB and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Audio Book (if present) and delete
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device. -
