5th Gen iPod Classic won't play video

I've been having a problem getting my 5th gen. iPod to play video podcasts. I'm using iTunes 9.2.1 and os 10.6.4. For about a month or so now my iPod will play a couple videos and then it just stops playing them. It usually finishes playing but then goes to black screen before the next video starts. If I click the pause button the battery indicator shows up at the top and three podcast titles quickly display and then disappear, and then the screen returns to the menu. From that point it won't play any video podcasts; until I resync the iPod then it will play three of four video and quit again until it's resync'd. Even after it stops playing videos it will still play audio podcasts without interruption.
I've tried restoring my iPod, but I get the same behavior after the restore.

I have an 80 classic and i started getting new movies and tv shows and my ipod stoped playing movie files. The time i experienced this was May 22, 2009. I loaded the free episode of the Glee Club offered by itunes. Did you ever find out how to fix that. Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

  • IPod classic - won't play video podcasts

    Hi Community!
I have a shiny new iPod classic 160GB, and I love it ... except for the fact that I can't play video podcasts with it.
They play fine on iTunes, and my audio podcasts work great, but no video podcasts.
When I click on one, the screen goes black for a few seconds, then goes back to the menu.
    Please help me!
    Thanks!

Hi, I have the same problem, but videos i converted to mp4 under the iPod specs..
I transferred some and all played OK... decided to transfer more vids and now those freshly videos don't play
They transfer to my iPod classic, i.e no error message.
Then i browse my ipod try to watch a movie and the same thing as you, black screen and then the menu slides back into place as i have not watched it
I tried reset center +MENU, tried restoring ipod, now i tried "Create an iPod or iPhone version" and i got this warning
"One or more videos were not converted because they're on the right format" so the format or encoding is not the problem with my videos
I will reinstall itunes if that doesn't work i will defrga my hard drive if no then a itunes repiar... i hope something works

  • TS1363 I have a 5th Gen Ipod Classic which has just stopped being seen by iTunes.  I have reloaded itunes and rest my iPod but still nothing.  Any advice?

I have 5th gen iPod classic and although it is recognised by my windows vista software within the "computer" tab. iTunes does not see it.  I have totally reset my iPod and reloaded the iTunes software on my PC (which actually sorted my issues with mt 32gb touch) but to no avail.
Any assistance would be grately appreciated?

Nothing has changed frlom when it worked on Saturday to it not working on Sunday!  The iPod does not appear in iTunes on either my laptop or my PC.  The iPod appears to be fully functional, the wheel works and the date/time etc is all correct.  However, it is empty of all music and videos.  It was almost full (give or take 10 gb)
The display on the iPod says connected!  Is there a setting on it which changes it from an iPod to a disc drive?  Other than that, I can see what's wrong.
Everything is working perfectly apart from it's deleted all my stuff and the PC only sees it as an external hard drive?
As I said, my touch is fine

  • 5th gen ipod classic

How can i replace the battery for a 5th gen ipod classic? The support centre says it is now "vintage" and can't replace it?

There are still several third party services out there that offer a battery replacement service for the 5G iPod Video.  A Google search for "iPod 5G Battery replacement" should give you a number of results to work with.
Otherwise, you can choose to swap out the battery for a new one yourself using of the many guides found online.  I usually go with the ones over at http://www.ifixit.com.
As for where to find purchase a replacement battery, there are several online retailers and resellers to offer them as well.  Some of the places that offer the replacement service also offer the parts, so you can check there as well.  Just make it the battery is specifically advertised as being for the 5G iPod Video.

  • 5th gen iPod Classic not recognized

Hi, I have a 5th gen iPod classic 30GB that my friend gave to me a few months ago. It was recognized on my computer and itunes at the start and I was able to sync and perform all the needed tasks. I recently had to reformat my computer and now the ipod isn't recognized by USB, or in itunes. The Device manager for Windows XP SP3 says "Unknown Device" and that the drivers for the device are missing. I've tried installing older itunes verions, searching for drivers myself, used 3 different Apple USB cables, restarting the ipod with the center + menu buttons, and checked the format (windows). I also have a 2nd gen ipod nano which is recognized with no trouble. All the tests on the classic, with the exception of firewire, passed and the hard drive works fine. The classic also isn't recognized on 2 other Windows 7 computers. If I try to put the ipod in disk mode, it just says "ok to disconnect" without giving me any other options. Also, the ipod charges on both wall USB and the computers USB. I have also tried all 6 USB ports. I've searched the web for days and have tried everything I could find to fix this, to no avail though. If anyone knows anything and can help, please post whatever you think will work. Thank you!

When you plug in the iPod does it even appear in Device Manager?  See this article for more details.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1496
Otherwise, I have a feeling that the USB ports on the Netbook don't output enough power to allow the iPod to fully communiate properly with the Windows Vista O/S.

  • 5th gen iPod classic motherboard

I just replaced my motherboard on my 5th gen ipod classic and now the lcd is blank.  I can hear clicking sound when I press the button.  I have checked the connections several times and the only thing that I see is the little black latch on the lcd ribbon connector will not latch down.  Could that be my problem?

Does the iPod appear in iTunes when you connect to your PC? If so, try restoring it to factory settings to help rule out the possibility of software glitch/issue.  You're positive you ordered the correct replacement logic board?
Otherwise, it appears that something may have happened damaged the LCd when you replaced the motherboard.

  • 5th Gen Ipod classic Harddrive switch out (exchange)

I switched out a perfectly working 30 gig harddrive (with all my coveted music on it) into another good working 5th gen Ipod I bought for this very purpose. Reason being was that my ' coveted music' ipod stopped giving out sound. My coveted music ipod harddrive was playing and working properly right up until I made the switch. Now everything is ready to go and it turns on etc. except the display is asking me to now 'connect to my computer and use I tunes to restore !!'  Did I lose all my songs ??I even played the no sound ipod before I made the switch just to make sure songs were there and the hardrdrive was functional which is was. I don't want to restore until I exhaust all avenues to bring back my music. Shouldn't my music still be on the harddrive ? I did not format it, just made a switch over. Any help ? Thanks

The 5th gen iPod "video" had different versions of its logic board, so the second one you transplanted the hard drive into may have a different logic board version.  Therefore, the hard drive itself is compatible, but maybe not the iPod's software (or other aspect of its data) on that hard drive.  That may be why the iPod is asking you to do a Restore (which will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings).
If you did not do a Restore, the your song files are probably still there.  Instead of trying to preserve it on an iPod, which is risky because an iPod can become lost, broken, or in need of a Restore, you should offload your songs onto your computer's drive, and add everything to your iTunes library.
You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store.  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, add them to your iTunes library.  After confirming everything is there, do the Restore on the iPod and sync it to that library.  Going forward, keep a copy of ALL of your songs in your iTunes library.  (Don't trust an iPod with your only copy of songs.)

  • Older 5th Gen IPOD Classic Games not syncing - HELP

I previously had a IPod Classic 30GB and purchased 2 games (Ms PacMan & Mahjong) these worked well on that IPod. I now have a new IPOD Classic 120GB and I have purchased 2 more games (UNO and Scrabble).
All games display in Itunes game although they are displayed on two different lines, but only the two new games (UNO and Scrabble) appear in the Games Sync area.
How do I get the original two games (Ms PacMan & Mahjong) to sync to these new IPod Classic?

Are those older games still available in the iTunes Store +iPod Click-Wheel Games+ section? If they are currently being sold, that current version is certain to be compatible with all game-playing click-wheel iPods.
If so, you may want to try sending an email to the iTunes Store support team. If you go here
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/
and follow one of the links under +Customer Service+, such as +Transfer Purchases+, and you will see a link that says +Contact Us+. Follow that link to a form you can fill out to send the email message. Explain the situation and ask if there is a way to get the newest version of those games you already paid for previously, when you had a 5th gen iPod.

  • Brand New 5th Gen iPod Touch Won't Connect to Wifi

I just got a brand new 5th gen iPod Touch and expected to have a fun night of playing with it, but instead I was trying to figure out why it won't connect to my network. Not a good introduction to a product.
Here is the related info and troubleshooting steps I've already tried:
    - It will not connect to my wifi network
    - The iPod Touch says "Unable to join the network [network name]" when I try to connect to my network (as opposed to "Could not find the network [network name]" when it is not the correct network name)
    - I was able to connect to a random unsecure network nearby
    - Of course I power cycled my router and modem to reset them
    - My wireless router does not broadcast its SSID; I made it broadcast it and it still didn't connect
    - My network is password protected. I tried changing the security type, as well as turning the password off altogether, but nothing worked
    - My wireless router is a Netgear WGT624 v3
    - Even though it's brand new, I tried resetting the iPod Touch and the network settings
Does anyone have any tips or solutions for this?
I wasn't able to find other people with this problem, at least not with solutions that I haven't tried. It's really frustrating not being able to connect to the internet with my new device.
I will point out that my Android phone connected to my wifi network on the first try with no problems.
    Thanks

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
iOS: How to back up your data and set up as a new device
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
What security are yo using with the router?
Try as a test setting the router security to None.

  • IPod Classic won't play movie

I download Les Misérables from iTunes with a redemption code I got within my DVD.
It plays perfectly fine on iTunes.
However once I synced it to my 80GB 6th gen iPod Classic, it does not play.
It simply goes back to the previous screen (choose a movie).
Any ideas on how to fix this? - as far as I'm aware, this is the only video that does not work, all others do but they are home videos.

  • Ipod Classic doesn't play video with Component cables

I just bought a new Ipod Classic and I have it connected to my Denon receiver using the Denon dock.  I am able to play music and movies from the ipod.  But when I try to play movies thru my small LG tv (Apple red, rellow white component cable) I only get audio and only if I have it in the white docking station.  Do I need to buy the composite cables to get the video?  I do get a message stating I need to plug into a video source.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Have tried to completely restore the iPod to factory settings and then resync the video?
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
Before you do that, try converting the video once more using iTunes' built in convert.  To do this, highlight the movie and chooose Create iPod or iPhone version from the Advanced drop down menu.  When the conversion process is finished, sync the new version over to your iPod and see if that helps.

  • Ipod/itunes won't play videos

    Hello,
I hope someone can help me before I either go completely insane or throw this ipod out the window. I just received a 3rd gen which replaced my original 2nd gen nano. I registered it and it shows up as a 3rd gen ipod (icon, etc) however, when I downloaded video's to my itunes library and drag them to my ipod I get this error mess. "_ cannot be copied because it cannot be played on this ipod" I can't even watch the videos in itunes???
I'm running itunes 7.5 with OS X 10.4.11. I've updated all software and have restored the ipod several times. I've also had my music wiped off after plugging it back in. Am I not doing something in itunes? Is the ipod defective? Help!
    Thanks
    Michele

I was having the same problem and then I disovered a program called iSquint. This will convert all popular formats including FLV for playback on iPod Nano. Best of all it is freeware

  • 5th Gen Ipod Classic Charging and Connecting problem. Battery has been changed and no improvement.

I have a 5th gen classic 30 GB ipod, that will not charge with an adaptor or USB 2.0  It also will not display the "Do not  disconnect" when connected to a USB 2.0 conector and is not being picked up by my computer (Windows Vista).  It was originally on a XP computer years ago.   Battery change did not help.  I have a lot of music I would like to get off of it, but my computer will not recognize and the new battery is draining down. Help me.

there is also the posibility of it being fried
have you considered sending it for diagnostics?
the online place I use (digiexpress) charges $25 for diagnostics and estimate,
if you decide to have it fixed, they then add the cost of parts, or ship it back unfixed.
labor is included in the $25 fee
My classic had 2 batterises changed by myself to no avail, until I decided to send it in to realize the board was fried. waste of money changing batteries, iPod went to the recycling bin. now i leave it to the pros and actually save $$.

  • Classic won't play videos - not supported.  Played fine before!!!

I haven't updated my ipod in a while.  I wanted to add a few songs so I updated it.  I had tons of videos on it that have been playing since I got it.  It erased all my videos and now is telling me it can't put them back on because my ipod doesn't support them.  What's up with that?  How do I get my videos back on my ipod.

They should though. That suggests that something went wrong with the upgrade because I'm running the latest version of iTunes and don't have any problems syncing videos to my iPod Classic.
Either way, glad to hear it is at least working again for you.
